In Dubai, they just opened the world's tallest building. It cost anywhere from $2 to 4 billion dollars to build, depending on your source.
City Center in Las Vegas just opened on the strip in December and it cost about $8 billion dollars.
They are pikers in Dubai. They need to spend a little bit more money to be in Las Vegas territory for spending money.
If you consider that City Center is comprised of several completely separate buildings, I'm not sure that the Dubai tower was a relative bargain. Also, don't forget that Dubai World was a partner in City Center (although MGM Mirage had to take on a larger share of the construction debt when DW defaulted on one of its payments). For wasteful spending and overextension, I think Dubai beats Vegas.
