From the LVRJ:
"The condition of a Las Vegas police officer who was shot last week on duty has been upgraded to serious, a University Medical Center official said Thursday.
Michael Madland was shot twice on March 23 while chasing an auto-theft suspect near Washington Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard. Madland, a three-year veteran with the department, received a bullet in the leg that severed an artery. He was also shot in the chest, but the bullet never pierced his protective vest, police said.
Sheriff Doug Gillespie said Madland was fighting for his life after the shooting." http://www.lvrj.com/news/wounded-officer-s-condition-upgraded-to-serious-89723467.html
Officer Madland has had numerous surgeries and will need a lot of rehabilitation. Hopefully, there will be limited long term effects from this ordeal.
