More ACLU Stupidity
The ACLU is going to court because they they think anybody should have the right to marry people in the state of Nevada. From the Las Vegas Sun: Attorneys for the ACLU are suing Clark County and the state of Nevada in hopes of overturning a religious test for nongovernmental officials desiring to perform marriage ceremonies. ACLU attorneys Allen Lichtenstein and Margaret McLetchie, suing in behalf of five individuals, filed suit in U.S. District Court for Nevada on Sunday against the county and the state. "This is an action to address the unconstitutional policy and practice of the state of Nevada and Clark County to violate the constitutional rights of those wishing to solemnize marriages, and those wishing to get married in a place of their own choosing, solemnized by a person without religious affiliation," the lawsuit says. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2011/mar/28/aclu-sues-county-state-over-religious-test-conduct/ Let's see where the ACLU is wrong. First, if they want a non-religious person to do the ceremony, then they can have a judge to marry the couple. 2nd They could go to a wedding chapel like we did and they can request that the minister do a non-religious service. It happened when my lovely wife Cathy and myself got married. 3rd and most important, this is not a court issue. It should be up to the legislature and the governor to decide what the qualifications should be for a person to marry people. Whatever your views on marriage, there has to be some qualifications for a person to marry a couple. First, the person has to be held in high regard as they are required to handle money and the marriage certificate and then file the documents in the proper clerk's office. Perhaps, that is why ministers and judges were chosen to be the one's who marry people. But if the legislators in the Nevada State Senate and Assembly want to change the law, then the people suing ought to go that route- not get the courts involved. The people who are suing are not being persecuted. They just are spoiled and are used to getting whatever they want. But they are not being deprived of any right to get married.
