Yesterday, I got a letter from my daughter's school announcing that under Nevada state Law, all students in 7th grade will be tested for Scoliosis.
To do this, there are school nurses who have to go around to all the middle schools in CCSD. There are 60 middle schools in CCSD, so this a full time job for these BSN school nurses. There were 3 nurses doing the testing and this translate into $275,000-$300,000 minimum mandate for the schools.
And this test could be done at a pediatrician's office at no cost to CCSD. Where are the parent's responsibility?
CCSD also checks all the kids hearing and vision as well. Why can't this be done at the kid's doctor's offices? Why is it a mandate that schools have to do the testing?
Another reason why school district budget's are out of control. Unfunded mandates made by the state and federal governments.
