From Fox News: The press secretary for Sharron Angle has apologized to a local political reporter after he was kept in a storage closet during a Nevada fundraiser. Scott Powers, a reporter with the Las Vegas Sun, was relegated to the storage space during a fundraiser Wednesday for Rep. Dean Heller (R-NV)., apparently to prevent him from speaking to people before Sharron Angle showed up. The Las vegas Sun published a brief account of the incident earlier in the week. Angle spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander, responding to coverage of that account, said in a written statement Sunday that the decision to hold Powers there was a "mistake" and that the reporter has accepted her "unequivocal apology." The apology was made shortly after the fundraiser. "This was the unfortunate mistake of an inexperienced staffer and the Angle's campaign office has made sure it will never happen again," she said. She explained that "hold rooms" are typically provided for pool reporters covering Angle when she speaks at private homes. In this case, Angle was speaking at the home of a wealthy developer and the reporter was told to wait in a storage closet -- which Alexander said contained open space, as well as a table and chair where the reporter could work. She said the space was chosen because of its "close proximity" to the room where Angle was speaking. "A hold room, however, should not be a storage room," she clarified. The Las Vegas Sun originally reported that, while about 150 guests waited for Angle to arrive at the $500-a-head fundraiser, somebody from Angle's advance team ordered Powers to stay in the storage closet until Angle took the podium. To enforce the order, the staffer stood watch outside the door, according to the Las Vegas Sun, which posted a photo Powers took of his cluttered "temporary prison." Powers eventually left the closet to watch Angle. He later sent out a lengthy report on his remarks to members of the media. The report itself did not mention the closet, saying only that "press coverage was limited to a single pool reporter, who was allowed to listen to the remarks but not given an opportunity to talk with anyone at the event." Powers later gave a more detailed account of what happened to The Drudge Report, saying he had to wait in the closet for about an hour and 15 minutes before emerging to hear Angle and Heller speak. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/03/27/reporter-confined-storage-closet-fundraiser-biden-newspaper-claims/?test=latestnews?test=latestnews Wow, that Sharron Angle is such an extremist that she would keep a reporter in a closet so they wouldn't interfere with a fund raiser. Oh, wait, what did you say? It wasn't Sharron Angle? Oh, it's Vice President Joe Biden who did this. It was a Biden's aide who stuck a reporter in a closet to keep them from interfering with the fund raiser. Can you imagine if a conservative GOP did this- there would be calls to arrest Angle and her campaign aide for kidnapping. And the liberals call Sharron Angle extreme. Idea stolen from Dad 29
The reporter quietly sitting in the closet has become a bigger story than whatever was happening outside…
ReplyDeleteI think perhaps the reporter realized that when he chose not to fight it.
I've had shaves at AOS in Mandalay Place twice, and one at T&H at Mirage's salon. Both places were excellent, though I might have to give the AOS shaves an ever-so-slightly higher "score."
ReplyDeletelas vegas roofing As mentioned above, the small AOS shop at Palazzo also gives shaves: I don't know whether they use the same barbers as Mandalay Place or not (I suspect they do, as the Palazzo store isn't staffed full-time).
I keep on hearing there's a great "old school" barber at Caesar's, but I haven't tried them yet. A local concierge once told me there was a good barber at Ballagio but I don't know more than that.

The M Resort (wayyyyyyy down south on Las Vegas Blvd. used to have a barber that reportedly gave great shaves but I haven't tried them yet (and M has changed owners in the meantime).
