Union Thuggery In Las Vegas
Clark County is about waste err, spend about $125,000,000 to renovate the Clark County jail. Of course, why they need to spend $125,000,000 when they have a brand new jail sitting across the street from Nellis AFB is beyond me. But that is for another day. Apparently, the Clark County commissioners, all Democrats, have made it almost impossible for a non-union firms to bid on the project, so a non-union shop is taking it to court. The union wants to participate in the court case saying this: The Southern Nevada Building & Construction Trades Council, an association of 18 local unions, is trying to intervene in the lawsuit. Darren Enns, secretary-treasurer of the union council, said in a court declaration that Project Labor Agreements were used to build many large local projects such as the Mandalay Bay and Paris hotel-casinos and expansions at the Las Vegas Convention Center and McCarran International Airport. He said PLAs are good for project owners by eliminating the possibility of picketing or strikes over any matter. "This means that the job can be done on time and on budget," his declaration said. PLAs are also good for workers by giving them clear rights and a grievance procedure to enforce their rights. (emphasis mine) http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2011/apr/18/las-vegas-judge-too-early-rule-union-labor-require/ So, I guess, if the union shop doesn't win the contract, they will become a bunch of crybabies and resort to picketing, strikes and anything else to shut down the project. Union thugs and goons in their own words.
