From the LVRJ: A District Court judge on Thursday overruled a decision by Secretary of State Ross Miller to allow any qualified candidate to run in a Sept. 13 special election to fill a U.S. House vacancy in Nevada.
The judge enjoined the secretary of state from moving ahead and gave the political parties until June 30 to nominate their candidates.
The ruling from the bench favored the Republican Party, which wanted to avoid a free-for-all election that would have decreased the GOP's chances of holding on to the 2nd Congressional District seat.
Judge James Todd Russell said the two statutes governing special elections were confusing and contradictory. But taken together, he believes they call for the political parties to nominate candidates to put on the ballot.
"The secretary of state is picking and choosing" the portions of the law that back up his decision, the judge said.
"That doesn't make sense to the court."

This is going to hurt Sharron Angle and other candidates and we will end up with 2 lame candidates from the GOP and the Dem's.
No matter what happens, the legislators ought to put into law a clear way to pick House of Representatives and include a primary.
If this ruling sticks, it will help the GOP but it will make a lot of people mad.
