Nothing like a cat fight when the chosen one is being challenged by a person who may actually win.
In the Senate race in Nevada in 2012, there is going to be a Democratic primary between Shelly Berkley who is liberal, except in areas concern Israel and Byron Georgiou, who is quite liberal. In fact, Georiou is winning the far left's support as evidenced by this week's article by Las Vegas Gleaner: http://www.lasvegasgleaner.com/las_vegas_gleaner/2011/06/nevada-senate-race-may-not-necessarily-have-to-totally-suck.html
In this week's CityLife column, I put my unrealistic idealism on display for all to see and mock. Specifically, after interviewing Byron Georgiou, I entertain the possibility that the 2012 Nevada U.S. Senate race needn't necessarily be a disheartening contest fought within an establishment-tested, consultant-approved ideological spectrum (the entire boundaries of which can be found somewhere to the right of, oh, Joe Lieberman) where candidates from both parties will spend millions of dollars effectively reinforcing the right-wing stranglehold on politically acceptable public dialogue and, subsequently, public policy.
However the polls may not be looking so good for Shelly Berkley as Harry Reid and his pipe organ, the Las Vegas Sun decided to do a hit piece on Geogiou.
By the time Byron Georgiou came to Washington, D.C., he had already been a top adviser to a California governor, prosecuted Enron executives and established himself as a top donor to the Senate Democrats.
But it was Harry Reid’s appointment of Georgiou to the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission -- tasked with producing the official record and recommendation on how the financial services industry brought down the economy -- that established him as a figure in national politics and gave him an impressive credential he has brandished in his bid to represent Nevada in the U.S. Senate.
But according a senior Democratic aide close to Reid, the Senate majority leader is now seriously rethinking his decision.
“Given Byron Georgiou’s financial history, and the ethical concerns raised regarding his tenure at the FCIC, Senator Reid regrets appointing him to the Commission,” the aide said.

We know why the editor of the Las Vegas Sun loves Berkley: Brian (the Coward) Greenspun is Jewish and has gone to bat for Berkley and her support for Israel, so no surprise there.
But Reid is throwing his buddy under the bus to help Berkley. That is very strange and it is also very strange that Reid is doing it so early. Georgiou is another limousine liberal who is quite rich and he will be able to hurt Berkley in the primary. He may not win, but right now, he is winning the liberal vote.
So, look for John Ralston, Annjeanette Damon, Karoun Demirjian and the rest of the Las Vegas Sun crowd of unethical reporters start throwing Georgiou under the bus by running hit pieces against him. And probably his family and close friends will also be subject to hit pieces by the Sun.. They will scour his record and let Berkley's record slide.
I wonder if Georgiou will be up to the challenge?
