Here is a small update regarding Monsignor Kevein McCauliff being suspended from Sain tElizabeth Ann Seton's Church because of an allegation of financial improperiety.
There has been no news from the Diocese about what happened and the news media in Las Vegas has not said any more than what the Diocese has said.
Surprisingly, the Las Vegas Sun has not written anything about this. After all, the Sun writes about all types of scandal, whether a person is innocent or not, so it is curious as why the Sun has not written anything about this.
The Diocese does not have anything written on their web site about what is going on at SEAS.
In the Church's weekly bulletin, there was no mention of what is going on. The bulletin did say how much money was raised during the week and some other financial information: http://seaslv.com/Documents/Website%20%20%20June%2019,%202011.pdf
In the last post, I linked to the Las Vegas Diocese Church information.
Here is the Church's web site: http://www.seaslv.com/
Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton is a well to do parish, with some famous moments, including when Father Kevin baptized the twins of Celine Dion earlier this year: http://www.lvrj.com/news/celine-dion-s-sons-baptized-in-vegas-117482803.html
In terms of size, St. Elizabeth's is like a super church, by Catholic standards. In fact, and surprisingly, there are few Catholic Churches in the Las Vegas Valley. There are about 23 Catholic Churches in the Valley to serve a population of around 1.5 million people plus visitors. By contrast, the county where I come from, Wood County, WI., they had about half the number of churches and more schools than Las Vegas. And Wood County, WI. has a population of about 40,000 people.
The priests are stretched thin with funerals, weddings, Masses and running their parish. I can easily see where there may be a lack of over site that may lead to financial problems and accusations.
So,, basically, there is no news and there probably will not be any news for some time. I am shocked something like this happened to Father Kevin but stranger things have happened.
Hopefully, this will not pull SEAS apart with conflicting stories and sides.
