The Clark County Teacher Education Association must think it's teacher members are really stupid or the leadership is just plain stupid. The teacher's union in Las Vegas and area is filing a complaint because CCSD had the audacity to send an e-mail to teachers about the switch of health insurance companies.
From the Las Vegas Sun: The Clark County teachers union filed a complaint on Friday against the Clark County School District, alleging the district engaged in bad faith bargaining practices.
The Clark County Education Association — which represents more than 17,000 public schoolteachers — filed the complaint with Nevada's Employee-Management Relations Board after the School District sent an email to employees on Sept. 14 with “frequently asked questions” about the Teachers Health Trust.
The email listed the district’s position and answers to 15 questions about the trust, a nonprofit health insurance provider for Clark County teachers. The teachers union alleges the School District violated state law by sending the email to employees.
“With this communication, CCSD circumvented its legal obligations to negotiate in good faith with CCEA by attempting to negotiate directly with the employees, which is against the law,” the union said in a press release. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2011/oct/22/teachers-union-files-complaint-against-clark-count/
Well I guess the union will be pissed at me for blogging about the letter: http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2011/10/reasons-why-ccsd-wants-to-change-health.html
I would much rather have our union work on the contract, represent teachers and do what unions are supposed to do than playing silly and stupid games like this.
"bad faith bargaining practices" is that an actual reason for a lawsuit??
ReplyDeleteI guess. This is what I pay union dues for?
ReplyDeleteIn reality, this is a public document, so there is no reason to file a lawsuit.
