From the Reno Gazette Herald: Western Nevada College student Karen Royce has filed a harassment claim against the school, alleging a professor there required students to divulge personal details of their sex lives and assigned them to masturbate.
“It’s so inappropriate,” Royce said. “This is why I’m pursuing it. This needs to change.”...

Royce said the course began with a discussion of different sexual positions, and she said the instructor went on to assign students to double their normal masturbation routine over the course of two weeks and write journals about their experiences.
“I joked, but was serious and said, ‘I don’t masturbate,’” Royce wrote in her complaint, which she filed with the U.S. Education Department’s Office of Civil Rights. “He became angry and ordered the class to masturbate if they intended to pass the class.”
Though Ghan defended Kubistant’s curriculum, Brian Oppy, chairman of the psychology department at Chico State University in California, said that while teaching a sexuality class can have some gray areas, it is not appropriate to assign students to perform sex acts or to write about them.
You would think that the university would be a tad upset by the professor and you would think wrong:
A college representative said, however, that the assignments were typical for a class of that nature and that students were warned of sensitive material from the outset.
Mark Ghan, vice president for human resources and general counsel for WNC in Carson City, said instructor Tom Kubistant has taught the class three times a year for seven years and has never had a complaint.
“That’s more than 300 students who have taken this class,” Ghan said. “This is the only complaint. There’s nothing but high praise I’ve seen for this guy.”
So, the only defense of this sick professor is that he has had praise. And being forced to masturbate as part of the curriculm is a typical assignment?
This course shows that we are still throwing money down the hell hole of colleges in Nevada.
Thank you for your comment in the end. WNC is a disgrace and support the teacher's "academic freedom" and not the students freedom to learn academic content. He is still teaching his class with the support of the college administration.
ReplyDeleteWith the recent scandal in Penn State you would think they would consider risk management. Nobody complained about him in 10 years either.
Those students that are supporting him change their stories every day to cover for the pervert. There is a reason they can't buy a beer until they are 21.
