KDWN once advertised they had the best local news on radio int he Las Vegas area and now it appears, they are out of the local news market all together.
A couple weeks ago, they got rid of the afternoon news and now it appears they have gotten rid of the morning local news. They are relying on AP news (or, in reality, the Obama network) for their news. They still have the traffic reports, which usually are not that good and the weather.
Now, it appears (I don't listen to too much talk radio) that KXNT is the only local radio station that offers local news on the radio.
Can it be that KDWN will soon get rid of all local programming, like the Heidi Harris Show and the Alan Stock show? If they do that, then they will be like AM 670, KMZQ which only has syndicated shows. and 670 has the only liberal talk show in Las Vegas, the Michael Smerconish show, which runs from 6 to 9 PM.
For me, ESPN 1100 in the afternoon still has the best talk radio in town. While they emphasize sports, they also will talk about local subjects, if it is interesting.
The death of local Las Vegas radio continues.
I don't think Smerconish would consider himself liberal. He's filled in for Chris Matthews, but even Matthews calls himself independent.
ReplyDeleteThis, from Wikipedia:
"Having voted for Republican candidates for president all his life, Smerconish endorsed Barack Obama for president on October 17, 2008.[13][14]
He has urged the Republican Party to pursue "moderation on social issues in order to advance a suburban agenda for the GOP." [15]
On February 21, 2010, he announced that he had left the Republican Party.[16]"
SO, maybe Smerconish is making the journey I started 20 years ago? Doesn't make him a liberal . . .yet.
Where is Heidi Harris (KDWN) the last two days?
ReplyDeleteHeidi has been been talking about going on vacation last week. This whole week, so far, but it was planned. If it was planned, then she did a good job preparing us for her being absent.
