On Friday, a 11 year old student died when she was run over by a school bus on the Northwest side of Las Vegas.
From the LVRJ: On Friday afternoon, a school bus struck and killed an 11-year-old girl at the corner of Pebble Rock and Fall Cliff Road, the street where Fillmore and her family live.
She said Saturday that she didn't know the girl or her family, but she feels sick every time she thinks about it.
Fillmore said she could hear the bus driver sobbing from down the street when she got home from work several hours after the accident.
She said she gave the man a hug and her daughter gave him a stuffed animal to try to comfort him.
"He's definitely just beside himself," Fillmore said of the driver, who Las Vegas police identified as Leslie Rice. "He hugged me so hard he cracked my back."
Police said the bus had just dropped off a group of elementary school children on Ann Road at Pebble Rock Drive when it struck the girl while she was crossing the road.

Because of my job of working with severely disabled, I have gotten to know many bus drivers that drop off students at my school. While there have been some reckless drivers employed by the school district, they are few and far between, and if I see them being reckless I will report them.. Most of the drivers are safe and caring drivers. At school, kids walk right in front of the bus and they have to hope the bus stops in time. The kids are so dense to what is going on around them that they don't even know or care that a bus is 3 feet in front of them
Further, I have seen what some of these drivers go through. Cars who cut them off in traffic, students who step right in front of the school bus and rowdy kids on the school bus. It seems to me,this driver was very heart broken about the death of a student that occurred when somehow she fell or walked into the path of his bus.
I also cannot even come close to speak about what the parents are of the dead girl are going through. They probably kissed the girl good bye in the morning and in the afternoon, their daughter is dead and they have to plan for a funeral. What a heartbreak that has to be.
I don't know what happened, but it is a tragedy all the way around, especially for the family of the student who died and I hope they are in our prayers. The sadness they are going through has to be so terrible right now, that it cannot be measured. But the bus driver also should be remembered as well, it is clear that this was a terrible accident and he will never forget what happened on Friday afternoon.
Let's just hope this is the last of school bus accidents in Las Vegas In a very long time.
