The Las Vegas media have been all over the story of a 1st grade good looking female teacher who was busted for DUI causing injury.
From the Las Vegas Sun: Noel Lardeo’s drunken driving/injury case will go before a Clark County District Court judge next week.
Lardeo, a Las Vegas elementary school teacher, was arrested after crashing her car into a bus stop two months ago and striking a 15-year-old boy, dismembering one of legs and nearly cutting off the other.
Following a preliminary hearing this week, Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Suzan Baucum has ruled there is enough evidence to send Lardeo’s felony case forward.
Lardeo is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. April 11 in District Court. She is being held in the Clark County Detention Center on $250,000 bail.
Lardeo, a first-grade teacher at the Roger Bryan Elementary School, is charged with a class B felony of driving and being in actual physical control while under the influence of intoxicating liquor causing death and/or substantial bodily harm to the victim.

Now, if this were an old, ugly, balding man with a beer belly, like myself, would this even make news? Of course not, but Lardeo is your stereotypical female in Las Vegas, a stereotype that is totally false.
Further, if Lardeo and case was not in the news, would she still be in jail? I really think her bail would have been reduced to a bailable amount, especially if this is her first time being arrested.
It is terrible about what happened. A young man lost his leg and severely hurt his other leg and will spend years in rehab. He will get a sizable settlement and Laredo may get some prison time, but not much because she will have time served credit.
Another interesting part of the case: Apparently, Laredo has not been terminated from her job as a teacher in CCSD. Her CCSD e-mail is still available. Apparently sitting jail for 2+ months and counting is not cause for termination, at least not in this case. I believe I have read that CCSD can fire a teacher if they are in jail 6 or more days straight, so if this is true, why hasn't CCSD moved to fire her?
So, I guess us old, fat, balding men have to be thankful that if something bad like this happened to us, we would not have to worry about the media flashing our picture all over the place and stories written how stupid we are when we drink and drive, which of course I would never do.
So, good luck to the victim and his recovery and in reality, that is what the focus of the story should, not a drunk young teacher. But in the media, they think cute young jailbirds are worthy news stories.
Um, wrong. She got 6 to 15 years today.
ReplyDeleteI know her that is my school
ReplyDeleteThis story is a tragedy for both sides. Was Miss. Lardeo wrong and at fault? Of course. Yes. Should she have received the sentence that she did. No way. Look around the news at sentencings. The punishment was too much and does not fit the crime.
ReplyDeleteI feel terrible for the young man that was severely injured. His life has not been the same. But does her prison time really make the family feel better? Does it really take 6-15 years to punish this former teacher who will never teach again?
Damn straight she deserved it. You feel terrible eh? I wonder if it was you or a loved one if you'd think the punishment was too much. The law is the law and the sentence of 6 to 15 for her charge is the law. She wound up serving the minimum btw. In the meantime, the kid she injured will never run again, never walk again. She gets released and carries on with her life.
ReplyDeleteNot so for the kid she hurt who will live with his injury for the rest of his. Drunk driving sentences must be harsh or people will not get the message: "DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE." The news was all over this because Las Vegas, like most communities, has a problem with drunk driving, so the press highlights these cases and the harsh sentences to provide a community service by emphasizing the message "DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE". So yeah, they would have done it irrespective of her looks. You people should be ashamed of yourselves for your cynical (in this article) and selfish (in the third response) perspectives. Shame!
