Pawn Stars Review: June 25, 2012

Welcome to another week of Pawn Stars.  I've had a couple of questions asking if I have anything to do with the Gold and Silver Shop.  The answer is no, not in the very least.  I've been to the shop about 5 times, first, when the show just started and Corey, Rick,and the Old Man actually worked in the store.  Never saw Chumlee.  We went there a couple more times as customers as we bought some games and videos but the last two times, just to see the shop.  I really have no desire to go back because of the crowds, the rudeness of some of those in the crowds and quite frankly, they have nothing I am interested in.  The only time we talked to any of the Stars was when my son and myself talked to the Old Man about collecting coins and he gave great advise and was very nice.  But that was when his office was downstairs and before people demanded he pose for pictures or demanded he evaluate their junk.
So, that is the extent I have had with the Gold and Silver Shop.  And as you can see, I don't take advertising from anyone, which probably keeps me from the copywrite police.
In the first episode, the first woman brought in a Elvis Presley contract to play at the city auditorium at Beuamont TX. in 1955.   http://www.elvis.com/  the contract said he would be paid $225 a night.  The lady wanted $8-10,000 so, time for expert.
Drew came down and said the contract, if real is worth about $15,000.  Out came the magnifying glass and he said the contract was a copy for a copy machine.  He said the different lettering had the same ink, so it was a copy.  No sale.
Las Vegas is a big Elvis town, probably rivaling Nashville.  We have several Elvis competitions in town each year and the winner can make some good money.  We have many Elvis lookalikes in Vegas who stay in character most of the time so sometimes it's a shock to see an Elvis impersonator shopping at the local store, but they have to eat, I guess.
The next guy brought in some 1945 Enemy Plane ID card and compass.  It was used to identify Japanese planes and ships.  The names of planes had regular names like Paul, Mike, Sonia etc instead of the name of the planes to make it easier for the observers to say what the plane was.  The papers were in great shape.  Rick didn't make an offer because the papers were not rare.
The next guy brought in a 1885 Winchester rifle.  The guy was from either Australia or New Zealand based on his accent.  If he was tourist, how did he get the rifle here?  Anyways The guy wanted $2500 and Corey called for Rick.  He noted that the barrel was an octagon tube.  Rick said the gun was designed by Joihn Browning.  .http://lewrockwell.com/shirtz/shirtz15.html  The guy still wanted $2500 and Corey offered $1000 and then $1500 and that was the sale price.
The next guy brought in buttons from Marie Antoinette.  They look like jewelry buttons and they had paste (fake) diamonds.  .   http://www.marie-antoinette.org/   Rick said the buttons did not belong to Marie but the box and buttons were still old and worth something.  The guy wanted $10,000 and Rick offered $2000 and then $3000 for the box and buttons.  Corey said $3500 and that was the sale price.  They took the gun out to the gun range, probably out in Parhump and Rick fired the gun and shot at the Old Man half dollar and nailed it on the third shot and won $60 from Chumlee.
On the next episode, the first guy brought in a 1918 Buick Touring Coupe.

 The car had a 6 cylinder engine.  Some things were rough, like some paint and tires but overall, it was in good shape.  The guy wanted $24,000 and time for Danny to come down and look at it.  (Danny will probably have the next reality,spin-off show)  He took a visual look and said the paint was not good but was impressed with the engine.  He said the car had to be repainted and it would take $10-12,000 to make it look like a museum piece.  Danny wanted to take the Old Man out a ride but had problems getting it started.  I think he had flooded the engine. Jerk.  He thought the car was worth about $18,000.  The Old Man offered $17,500 and that was that.  And that was the sale price. 
The next guy brought in some gun smuggling books- books that are hollowed out.  Rick pulled out a handgun from his back pocket and put it in the hollowed out wooden boxes that look like books.  So, if you are interested in robbing the store, some employees are packing but having the gun in his back pocket?
The books/boxes came with a letter stating they were confiscated.  Rick offered $50 and the guy wanted $100 and Rick stayed at $60 and then $65 for a box.
The next guy brought in a autographed tennis racquet from Wimbledon Champion Arthur Ashe.  http://www.cmgww.com/sports/ashe/  It's a nice racquet but not strung.  He also had an autographed poster and the guy had it signed when Ashe visited the guy's office.  Time for another expert.  Jeremy came down to look and said the autographs were real but the value was diminished because it was personalized.  Jeremy said the total was about $700.  Rick offered $250 and the guy came down to $450. Rick offered $350 and then agreed to $400 for the sale price.
The next guy brought in the newspaper from the Boston Globe the day after the Titanic sank.  http://www.rmstitanic.net/    The newspaper was in good shape and had no yellowing on th epaper.  Rick thought it was faked because the printing was bad and so there was no sale.
