Some people on the left are poo-pooing the IRS scandal as being much ado about nothing or that the IRS also questioned a group or two on the left so, all things must be equal.
Well, this is why the IRS scandal needs to be investigated vigorously, by an independent counsel.
From James Tarranto and the "Best of the Web": As we've repeatedly emphasized, the possibility that the IRS was acting under
orders from the White House, as alarming as it is, is far less so than the "dog
whistle" alternative. If the IRS did the bidding of the party in power without
having to be ordered, then the federal government itself, not just the current
administration, is so corrupt as to call into question the very integrity of
American democracy. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323393804578559583374805870.html
Either scenario, the White House ordering the IRS to go after the TEA Party or if they did independently, it is very scary and there needs to accountability, otherwise we are not a nation of laws anymore and that elections can be thrown because of this.
This one has petered out, Dan. There's already been a guy--self declared Republican--who said it wasn't spearheaded by the White House, it was him.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm still really irritated that ALL of these Tea Party groups got their tax exempt status. They're not primarily political organizations? REALLY?
And it keeps trickling out. They also searched "progressive" and "occupy" groups. Plus, almost all concerned were self-proclaimed Republicans or conservatives. There really might be an issue here of establishment Republicans trying to ferret out Tea Party groups. . .and wouldn't THAT be a hoot?
