From the LVRJ:
Several people were taken to the hospital Saturday morning after a bicycle crash in Red Rock Canyon.
Nevada Highway Patrol responded to Nevada 159 in the Red Rock Canyon area just after 9 a.m. and found a five-bicycle collision, trooper Jeremie Elliott said.
No vehicles were involved in the crash.
All bicycle riders were transported to University Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. The crash was cleared quickly and did not cause traffic delays, Elliott said. http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/bike-crash-near-red-rock-sends-several-hospital
My guess is that these were weekend riders who put on their racing tights and helmets and pretend they are riding the Tour De France.
However, many of these riding groups are a danger to themselves and to car traffic as they tend to hog the road, refuse to yield and pretend they own the road.
They were lucky that no cars were involved and no cars were behind them and hit the fallen riders.
Red Rock is a very beautiful to drive by and to bike ride through and so it attracts all sorts of people, especially on the weekend. If you ever are in Las Vegas, it is a site you would want to see and it's just outside of the City of Las Vegas city limits- just follow Charleston Blvd out of the City and you are at Red Rock. You can also see Red Rock from most areas of the Las Vegas Valley.
And to see what the accident looked like, here is a clip of some bike accidents:
