From the New York Daily News: Paving the way for half a million undocumented immigrants living in New York City to obtain identification, Mayor de Blasio signed legislation Thursday to create a municipal ID card.
Though de Blasio originally wanted the card to roll out before the end of the year, it's now scheduled to launch in January. The card will be free the first year, and there will be walk-in enrollment centers - along with online applications - that New Yorkers can access to apply, officials said.
"Even for those who already have ID, we’re going to make sure that this card brings a lot to the equation, a lot of benefits that will go with it," Hizzoner said outside of the central Brooklyn Public Library before signing the bill. "But for those who don’t have ID, it’s going to be crucial."
De Blasio and his head of Immigrant Affairs, Nisha Agarwal, rebuffed safety and privacy conerns from the New York Civil Liberties Union. They stressed that information required to receive a card would not be shared except when verifying eligibility or in response to a court order, subpoena or warrant.
Officials haven't yet determined which documents New Yorkers will need to present when applying for the card, but said the application materials would be destroyed up to two years after they've been submitted.
Applicants will not be asked about their immigration status, de Blasio added. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/dailypolitics/mayor-de-blasio-signs-legislation-create-municipal-id-card-500-000-undocumented-immigrants-obtain-services-blog-entry-1.1862620
Hey, I really hope NYC has 2,00,000 more illegals come to their city, live and completely bankrupt the City, just as the mayor of NYC is totally and completely morally bankrupt.
