The embarrassing episode of Pedro Martinez, now former superintendent of Washoe County Public Schools, apparently is over when the school board bought out Martinez's contract.
From the Reno Gazette Journal: Pedro Martinez's two years as the superintendent of the Washoe County School District started to come to a close Tuesday after the school board voted pay him up to about $500,000 in a settlement that includes him ending his wrongful termination lawsuit against the board.
The amount of the settlement will depend on when Martinez finally leaves the district, which will happen by Dec. 22 and not until six weeks have passed since Tuesday's vote.
The settlement includes the salary and benefits the district owes Martinez for the 15 months remaining on his job contract, plus $80,000 for his attorney's fees.
Barbara Clark, the school board's president, said the settlement, which is a mutal agreement, was the right decision because fighting Martinez's wrongful termination lawsuit in the courts would have been much more costly.
The board voted 5-to-2 in favor of the settlement, with trustees Lisa Ruggerio and Estella Gutierrez voting against the agreement.
After the vote, Martinez said he is saddened at the thought of leaving the school district and its 63,000 students.
He said he doesn't know what he will do after he leaves the superintendent's job. http://www.rgj.com/story/news/education/2014/09/23/judge-recommends-buying-washoe-schools-superintendent/16086817/
Martinez should never have ben hired in the first place. He never taught, doesn't have any kind of education license and doesn't have the experience to work in education. further, he was hired because he is Hispanic and no other reason.
So, what was the real reason he was fired? It wasn't because he was not a CPA, the stated reason why he was first fired. The truth is that a couple months earlier, he fired the long time school police chief, who also was quite popular. And again, he wasn't qualified to be a teacher or custodian or superintendent of a school district.
And Mr. Martinez doesn't know where he will end up?
How about back in CCSD? They will find or create a position for him.
