Badgers Defeat Kentucky, In NCAA BB Championship
I am going to be difficult to live with through Monday evening as my alma mater, the University of Wisconsin men's basketball team defeated the previously undefeated Kentucky Wildcats, 71-64.
From Madison.com:
University of Wisconsin men’s basketball coach Bo Ryan doesn’t believe in endings, only beginnings.
So a one-point loss to Kentucky in the 2014 Final Four was really the start of something new for the Badgers, who used the heartbreaking defeat as fuel during offseason workouts.
Senior center Frank Kaminsky and Co. set lofty goals — the final one on the list was to win a national title — and Ryan didn’t discourage such talk.
The Badgers are one step closer after knocking off previously unbeaten Kentucky 71-64 on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Kaminsky scored 20 points and junior forward Sam Dekker added 16 as the Badgers added their biggest win yet to an amazing resume.
“I think that was big making that run last year, showing us we could get back,” Dekker said.
The Badgers have already beaten a who’s who of college basketball to reach this point, with the victory over the Wildcats following ones over North Carolina and Arizona last week.
Now, the only thing standing between them and a national title is another blue blood: UW (36-3) meets Duke (34-4) on Monday night in the championship game.
Sophomore guard Bronson Koenig and sophomore forward Nigel Hayes added 12 points apiece as the Badgers avenged a 74-73 loss to Kentucky in last season’s national semifinals.
“It gives us another 40 minutes, I know that,” said coach Bo Ryan, who leads the Badgers to their first final since 1941.

Bo Ryan has shown that he a true Hall of Fame basketball coach and the U.W. basketball has shown it deserves in the championship game.
It will also be cool if the Badgers win and they join U.W. Stevens Point as another NCAA basketball champion this season.
So, on Monday evening, when the Badgers play Duke, and the Badgers should win, it will be a very nervous and exciting time in the Las Vegas Badger household.
