Wisconsin public employees are a wee upset that Governor Scott Walker is threatening to take away a few "rights" public employees receive. You know, benefits that are very superior to the private sector, the governor is asking that the employees contribute a little bit more money to their pensions and health benefits, but far fewer than most private sector employees. He is also setting some work rules that will make it easier to fire incompetent employees. Again, something most private sector employees don't enjoy.
So, anyways, the public employees are bitching and moaning while the rest of the State of Wisconsin are laughing at them.
But now President Obama is going to stick his big fat nose into squabble by having the Secretary of Failed Education call the governor. From jsonline: U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan is expected to call Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker on Thursday, a spokesman for the federal agency said.
The scheduled telephone call comes as the Republican governor is seeking to cut benefits and union bargaining rights for state teachers and other public workers to help balance the state budget.
“We can confirm that Secretary Duncan does have a phone call scheduled with Gov. Walker on Thursday,” education department spokesman Jim Bradshaw said in an email.
The Associated Press is reporting that Duncan says that the move in Wisconsin and other states to strip teachers of bargaining rights worries him. At a Denver conference of teacher unions and school administrators, Duncan promised the educators that he'd put pressure on governors to work with unions, not antagonize them. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/news/116352919.html
Hmm, work with unions instead of antagonize them. And where has that gotten local and state governments? What a freaking moron, but I guess he is a liberal Democrat, which is the same thing.
What the hell is Arne Duncan from the failed school district of Chicago have to say in this matter. This is a State issue, not a federal issue. Further, if what Walker does to the public employees is illegal, and from what I have read, no one is saying that it is, the unions will challenge this court.
So, while this is happening in Wisconsin, we are having problems in Nevada. Will Arne Duncan from the Department of Failed Education be calling Brian Sandoval because Sandoval and the Democrats are going to have to cut the budget of education in Nevada?
My suggestion to Scott Walker and who ever gets Arne Duncan phone calls should tell him to shut the hell up, stop putting unfunded mandates on local school districts and ask him why Chicago has such crappy schools.
