From ESPN: Never has more been riding on a race here for Dale Earnhardt Jr. than in this, his 30th Cup start at Talladega Superspeedway.
"Knowing that I've got to win will be in the back of my mind every lap," he said Saturday, preparing for Sunday's Geico 500 (2 p.m. ET, ESPN and WatchESPN), his last chance at hanging on in the Chase.
"I don't think I've ever been in that situation before," he said. "I don't think any driver has. Where it's win or nothing. There's a couple of others out there like that, too."
Those include six-time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson and 2012 champion Brad Keselowski, who, with Earnhardt, are the bottom three in the 12-driver standings that will be cut to eight Sunday. Matt Kenseth is ninth, winless this season. http://espn.go.com/racing/nascar/cup/story/_/id/11721774/nascar-chase-heavy-hitters-dale-earnhardt-jr-included-face-elimination-Talladega
After the fighting last week in Charlotte, you never know what will happen.
Funny quote from last week's race regarding Matt Kenseth's fight with Brad Kesolowski: What up, Matty Superfly Snuka! Let this be a lesson to all you young NASCAR racers out there. Punching will get you fined. Blindside horse-collar sickle tackles? Perfectly legal. http://espn.go.com/rpm/powerrankings/_/season/2014/week/31/seriesId/2
