31 Years Ago: The Beginning Of The End Of Public Employee Unions

31 years ago, President Reagan fired over 11,000 Air Traffic Controllers after they went on an illegal strike.  From The History Channel: On August 5, 1981, President Ronald Reagan begins firing 11,359 air-traffic controllers striking in violation of his order for them to return to work. The executive action, regarded as extreme by many, significantly slowed air travel for months.

Two days earlier, on August 3, almost 13,000 air-traffic controllers went on strike after negotiations with the federal government to raise their pay and shorten their workweek proved fruitless. The controllers complained of difficult working conditions and a lack of recognition of the pressures they face. Across the country, some 7,000 flights were canceled. The same day, President Reagan called the strike illegal and threatened to fire any controller who had not returned to work within 48 hours. Robert Poli, president of the Professional Air-Traffic Controllers Association (PATCO), was found in contempt by a federal judge and ordered to pay $1,000 a day in fines.
On August 5, an angry President Reagan carried out his threat, and the federal government began firing the 11,359 air-traffic controllers who had not returned to work. In addition, he declared a lifetime ban on the rehiring of the strikers by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). With Reagan doing this, it opened the door for Governors like Scott Walker of Wisconsin to crack down on public employee unions who had more control over policy than their employers are were literally stealing money from taxpayers.
Reagan was 31 years ahead of his time, but taxpayers in many areas of the country are now able to see the fruits of his labor.

Caesars Palace's revamped $17 million buffet, tentatively set to open in Las Vegas Sept. 10, is billed as the Strip's biggest, with 524 menu items. Caesars researched other Vegas buffets and says it will dish up more dishes. Don't expect troughs of reheated eats: Executive chef Scott Green says 80%-90% of the food will be made at buffet stations in front of the customer.
Some months ago, I asked readers to submit suggestions for the buffet's new name, and regret to inform you that "Vomitorium," "Eat Tu Brutus" and "Grubis Maximus" did not make it.
Reader Mary Riggins came closest with "Baccus Feast." The buffet's new name is "Bacchanal" instead of the old Lago. The idea is over-the-top indulging. But the decor will be modern and homey, including serving stations fronted with shelves holding hundreds of jars of pickled foods and other edibles. "No togas, no Roman columns," Green says.
There will, however, be the must-have Vegas buffet standards: prime rib, cocktail shrimp and crab legs. But look for contemporary touches that have worked well at nearly 2-year-old The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas' award-winning Wicked Spoon buffet: clever containers such as mini iron skillets for lasagna, and fried chicken and cute wire fry baskets holding chicken and waffles at breakfast. Somehow, Michael Bloomberg of NYC will not be going to the buffet.
The cost is reasonable, compared to Las Vegas  Strip buffets, but be prepared to stand in line for a significant period of time if you go during the lunch and dinner rushes.
My favorite is the M-Buffet but this buffet may be a challenge to The M.

The Sleaze Of Crybaby Reid Continues

From the LVRJ and Steve  Sebelius: Say this about U.S. Sen. Harry Reid: He really believes in renewable energy.
Reid has beat up NV Energy pretty good in recent years. In the closing days of the George W. Bush administration, Reid blocked plans to build coal-fired power plants in Nevada. He said in April on the "Nevada Newsmakers" show, "I don't think NV Energy has done enough to allow renewable energy to thrive."
But that same month, NV Energy reported it had exceeded its state-imposed green-energy requirement of 15 percent by purchasing 16.7 percent of its power from renewable sources. And that was in spite of the Public Utilities Commission rejecting a handful of renewable contracts in July 2011, saying the company hadn't justified the purchases were necessary to meet its quota.
Now Reid is pushing for a Chinese company he played a key role in recruiting to Nevada, ENN Mojave Energy LLC. The company plans a billion-dollar solar energy manufacturing and generating plant near Laughlin, but an ambitious development schedule is being threatened by a lack of green power customers.
Steve Tetreault quoted Reid in Tuesday's Review-Journal saying the project "would start tomorrow if NV Energy would purchase the power," but the company "has not been willing to work on this and that's such a shame."....
There's another factor, however, one more personal to Reid: His son, Rory Reid, is one of the attorneys for the ENN Mojave Energy project. A Reid spokeswoman said the senator did not suggest Reid's firm - Lionel, Sawyer & Collins - to ENN, nor has the elder Reid spoken to this son about the deal. (Reid imposed a strict ban on family members lobbying his office in 2003 after the Los Angeles Times asked him about lobbying by three of his four sons.)
But success for ENN in finding customers helps Rory Reid, and its failure could cost him a client. It's an undeniable conflict that Harry Reid should keep in mind as he twists arms at the PUC and NV Energy, lest he earn himself an ethics complaint.

But leave it to Crybaby Harry, he loves to help out his sons.  Earlier this year, he got his son hired as the city attorney in the City of Henderson, as the city council and mayor bowed down to Crybaby Harry and licked his shoes.
So, is it surprising that Crybaby Reid is helping his boy, of course not, we know what he does, but the powers that be just ignore Reid's sleaze.

Loch Ness Monster Found?

A man who has hunted the Loch Ness Monster for nearly three decades believes he has snagged the best photograph of - and some important new information on - the legendary creature.
George Edwards, a devoted Nessie hunter who leads searches for the monster with his Loch Ness Cruise business in Drumnadrochit, Scotland, just publically released a photograph of a gray creature with a mysterious hump schlepping toward Urquhart Castle.

"I’m convinced I was seeing Nessie as I believe in these creatures. Far too many people have being seeing them for far too long," he told the Inverness Courier.

Olympics Worse Than North Korea?

At least, in North Korea, you can leave your house.
From the New York Daily News:  An Olympic star was sent home for spending the night with his wife.
St. Kitts and Nevis axed sprinter Kim Collins, 36, from the 100 meter on Saturday for leaving the athletes' village. Lane four remained empty during the race. Collins, a “national hero” who was supposed to occupy that space, turned to social media to vent his outrage.
“This can't be right,” he tweeted. “Olympic number 5 and no Kim Collins.”

He was set to run the 100 meters in his fifth Olympics. He even carried the St. Kitts and Nevis flag at the opening ceremony this year. But when he left the athletes' village to visit his wife at a hotel, his team looked past his enthusiasm to their rulebook.
His team’s committee forbade him from running the 100 meters. Collins won the world title for that event in 2003. Also entered in he 200 meter and 4x100 meter relay, Collins was sent home, according to The Associated Press.
"Mr. Collins departure is down to his repeated absences from training sessions and also for refusing to respond to repeated phone calls and emails by team manager and coaches," his team’s committee said in a statement.
Collins feels that he should be able to stay with his wife with or without their permission. “They're asking me to abandon my wife for the team. It's not going to happen,” Collins told the BBC.

So, far, people have been kicked for tweeting supposedly racist comments, for cheating and now spending a night with his wife.  Then you have the horrible job that NBC is doing in covering the Olympics and this is going down as one of the worst Olympics in a long time.

Product Of Obama's Failed Foreign Policy

Obama supports the people who did this: When the angry mob was rampaging through town, storming her home and those of other Christians, the 70-year-old woman hid in her cow pen, pushing a rock against the door. There she cowered for hours, at one point passing out from tear gas being fired by police that seeped in.
When Sameeha Wehba emerged just before dawn, she found she was the only Christian left in this small Egyptian village just south of Cairo.
Dahshour's entire Christian community — as many as 100 families some estimate — fled to nearby towns in the violence earlier this week. The flock's priest, cloaked in a white sheet to hide him, was taken out in a police van. At least 16 homes and properties of Christians were pillaged and some torched and a church damaged.
The violence was ultimately rooted in a dispute over a badly ironed shirt that escalated into a fight in which a Christian burned a Muslim to death, in turn sparking the rampage by angry Muslims.
"It was a devil's moment," Wehba said Thursday at the home of her Muslim neighbors, who have taken her in. "Whoever caused this was the devil's son."

Egypt's new president, Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood, didn't comment on the violence for several days. On Friday, he appealed to Dahshour's Christians to return home, promising justice against perpetrators of the violence. But, echoing the line that Mubarak's government always took for Muslim-Christian violence, he denied the incident was sectarian.
"This was an individual incident and its origin is not about Muslims and Christians, and it happens every day. It was blown out of proportion," he said. Morsi's spokesman denied the eviction was forced.
Obama and Hillary Clinton have no clue about foreign policy and this shows it.

So Cool: 138 Skydivers Break Record

It's like they are walking in the air- wait, some are.  From the San Francisco Chronicle:
Falling at speeds of up to 220 mph, a group of nearly 140 skydivers shattered the vertical skydiving world record as they flew heads-down in a massive snowflake formation in northern Illinois. Three judges representing the Federation Aeronautique Internationale, the international air sports agency, certified that 138 skydivers created the formation Friday evening over Ottawa, about 80 miles southwest of Chicago. It took 15 attempts over three days for the team to break the previous record of 108 skydivers, which was set in 2009. "I feel amazing," Rook Nelson, an organizer and the owner of Skydive Chicago where the record was broken, said shortly after he made the jump. "There was a lot of emotion and a lot of days where we should have got it. But we dug down deep and stuck at it." Jon Stewart To Harry Reid: Shut Up

I'm not a big fan of Jon Stewart because he is wrong on many issues, this issue, Stewart is right.  From the Washington Examiner: Jon Stewart ridiculed Senate Majority leader Harry Reid last night for accusing Mitt Romney of not paying any taxes for 10 years.
“Here’s a rule of thumb, if you have to follow your claim with the words, ‘I don’t know if this is true’ then shut up.” Stewart said, comparing Reid to Donald Trump.
Stewart then launched a segment called “You Harry Reid are Really Really Terrible” and proceeded to ridicule Reid.
“You’re the Senate Majority Leader, you can’t just run to the Side-Boob Gazette with ridiculous speculations,” Stewart said, jokingly referring to the Huffington Post.
Stewart also criticized Reid for making speculations about what Mitt Romney’s father thought about his son's decision not to release his tax returns.
“I can’t believe you just went dead-Dad shame on Mitt Romney,” Stewart said incredulously. “That is a bulls*it shot.”

Shelly Berkley Shows Her Lack Of Class Again

Shelly Berkley is having quite a nice run to be Nevada's worst politician and yesterday she shows how much of a bitch she really is.
Yesterday was Channel 8's Gary Waddell last day on the air as a newscaster and he had been doing it since 1971.  There were a lot of tribute from the funny (Oscar Goodman joking that Waddell will become the president of the Hell's Angels) to the sincere- Harry Reid.
But then came along Berkley.  She said her goodbyes to Waddell, but she also surrounded herself with campaign volunteers holding Berkley for Congress signs.  So, instead of making this Waddell's day, Berkley had to make it all about Shelly.
For that, Berkley is the 2nd most disgusting politician in Nevada, just following Harry Reid, but she is coming close to beating him.

Chronically Pissed Off Mad At NBC

From the Daily Mail: NBC has become the centre of a race storm after airing an ad featuring a monkey performing gymnastics, right after showing the performance of Gabby Douglas, the first African-American to win Olympic gold.

The network has since apologised for the advert's poor timing, explaining: 'No offense was intended.'

The controversy ignited as sportscaster Bob Costas wrapped his analysis of her incredible routine during the all-around competition last night.

Costas said: 'There are some African American girls out there who tonight are saying to themselves: "Hey, I’d like to try that too." More from London in a moment.'

The broadcast then went to a commercial break, showing an advertisement featuring a monkey wearing a gymnastics uniform and performing a rings gymnastics event. 

The unintentional, but poorly-timed ad was for Animal Practice, an upcoming NBC sitcom.

99.5% who saw this didn't even think about race and a monkey.  Most people are beyond that, in fact, most people in the U.S.were saying that it was great that an American won the event.

But by the time the commercial was supposed to air on the U.S.'s west coast, they changed the commercial to a.....President Obama campaign commercial.  Now, that is revolting and embarrassing.

Video Of Police Officer Shot

In Las Vegas, we have a bunch of Monday morning quarterbacks, including the ACLU about the number of shootings Metro has been involved in.
Since I have been in Vegas, there have been 2 shootings out of probably 20 or more that have been questionable.  One was when cops burst into a drug dealers apartment and shot a guy in the bathroom and the other, the Eric Scott shooting, though, now, I am more in Metro's corner in that shooting.

Protesters Smash Obama's Window In Oakland

From the Oakland Tribune: A crowd of as many as 100 protesters marched through downtown Friday, breaking car windows and a window at Barack Obama's local campaign office.
Officer Johnna Watson, a spokeswoman for the Oakland police, confirmed in an email that a window of Obama's campaign office at 16th Street and Telegraph Avenue was smashed.
Police also confirmed that several car windows were broken. The protesters began organizing about 9 p.m. and marched up Broadway.
Police also said they were following the protesters during the march.

I'm pretty sure that the marchers/thugs were not Romney supporters but instead were liberals who don't care for Obama.

I'm Watching The Midnight NBC Olympics Anti-USA Coverage

I've been watching the NBC after midnight Olympics coverage and they coverage is decidely anti-american.
They showed a montage of the United Kingdom's accomplishments.
They showed the women's heptathlon and focused on just about every athlete except the American.
They are showing the highlights of Serbia in the U.S. Serbia-U.S. women's volleyball match, until the American's finally won.
They had John McEnroe talking about the men's tennis final, which doesn't include the Americans.
I suppose NBC has to get their anti-U.S. bias out at night when there are few people watching.
I am sure more will come.

Unlike every other competitive swimmer who’s donned a Speedo and goggle, Lochte has done it on the sport’s biggest stage: At the Olympics.
The 11-time Olympic medalist admitted to “Access Hollywood” that he went No. 1 in the pool in which he was later crowned No. 1 in the 400 IM.
“I did in warm-up,” he told Ryan Seacrest. ”I think there’s just something about getting into chlorine water that you just automatically go.”
He stressed that he doesn’t do it in competition because — why would you go during competition? If you can’t hold it for 1 minute, 52 seconds, then you have bigger problems with which to contend.

Why are Black People sooooo afraid to say that the mayor is ineffective and has done little (I’m being generous) to get Black Milwaukee back to work.
Don’t give me that ish about Talgo…that train has left. Century City is still a concept…where are the jobs? What legislation or serious proposal has Teflon Tom authored to address Black Unemployment in this town?
Check for yourself at the mayor’s webpage and look through the list of “Highlights” listed and find a SINGLE mention of BLACK UNEMPLOYMENT! Maybe I’m being a littl hasty…let’s check out the mayor’s issues on his website where he talks about economic development and job creation. Maybe the mayor talks about BLACK UNEMPLOYMENT here.

Since 8 years have passed and study after study has been produced about BLACK UNEMPLOYMENT and NO LEADERSHIP has come from the mayor’s office, I suggest that maybe the mayor is a visual learning. If BLACK PEOPLE took over city hall and that section of Wells St. then maybe the mayor would understand WE ARE SERIOUS. Last summer, thousands of people went to Wall Street in New York and made a statement that they weren’t happy. A movement called “Occupy” sprung up all across the country.
Why not OCCUPY WELLS STREET and let the mayor know that he know longer has our support or vote.

Is Michael Phelps The Greatest Olympic All Time?

Michael Phelps has almost closed out his Olympic career by winning another race today, the 100 meter Butterfly.  This is his 17th gold medal and 21st medal over all.  He will go for his 18th gold medal when he swims in the 4x100 medley relay tomorrow night.  Unless the team is disqualified, it should be a walk/swim in th epark as the U.S. team has 4 gold medal winners swimming in the event.
Phelps has won more medals than anybody else in Olympic history along with the most gold medals.

Good Bye To Gary Waddell

Channel 8 news anchor Gary Waddell is resigning effective today and is in the process of doing his last newscast as we speak. Instead of a suit and tie, just sports coat and shirt and hopefully, pants.
Waddell has been in Las Vegas news for 32 years, amazing since the news industry is so cut throat.  He also has to deal with all the slime including criminals/politicians, actors, dealing with sad stories and the few happy ones and more.
So, thanks for the memories, Gary Waddell and enjoy your retirement and motorcycle rides.

Democrats: Lies And More Lies=Crafty

The Democrat Party has no shame or ethics.  First Crybaby/Liar Harry Reid makes false accusations about Mitt Romney and his taxes and then a Democratic strategist/sleazeball defends Reid for his lies and deciet and says it is crafty.
From the Las Vegas Sun: While he won’t reveal his source, Reid has only grown more confident in his accusations about Romney’s tax returns since he first started levying them in floor speeches and interviews a few weeks ago.

Dan Hart is a crackpot who obviously has not one ethical bone in his body.  Hey, who cares there is no evidence, according to Hart, as long as we score political points. I bet Hart, as a child, enjoyed seeing pet puppies being slaughtered one limb at a time, as they barked in pain when a neighborhood bully killed them in a slow and painful death.  He may have even skinned a cat alive, based on his behavior as an adult.
Obviously, Reid is lying.  If Romney is violating the law, the IRS would be all over him. 
Reid is just a horrible human being, willing to destroy a man's reputation only for politics.
When Reid dies, he is going to spend an eternity in hell for all the harm and hurt he has caused people, including his wife.  He has put the Senate ahead of his wife when she was seriously injured in a car accident and when she was diagnosed with cancer. 
The end of Crybaby/Coward/liar/horrible human Reid being cannot come to soon as a senator from Nevada/Washington D.C..  Hopefully, he will resign when he loses the Senate majority leadership in November.

First, nearly 100% of the people who wrote me said they want someone who is honest, transparent -- difficult for many politicians to be. They don't want someone whose idea of the truth is that what they said is not a total lie. And most said they don't want a "packaged" candidate, anyway.

Show us that you care
Most wanted a president who cares about those in need and believes that America's future lies in rebuilding and ensuring the lasting strength of its middle class.
Most -- even those who identified themselves by political party -- want someone who is not beholden to party politics and will follow through on campaign promises no matter the impact on future elections.
Nearly all the people who responded offered specifics -- and those specifics not only signaled out-of-the-box thinking but also a sense that they have been thinking about it for some time. And nearly all want to take politics of out American elections so that we can get leaders instead of walking commercials.

If this poll was accurate and that is what people want, then that is the kind of president we would have.
But the reality is 90%+ of blacks will vote for Obama even though he goes against just about everything they stand for.
Most whites, except the guilt ridden liberals, will vote for Romney because they don't like Obama and liberals.
And everyone who responded to the poll were either in a drug induced coma or live in the world of Winnie the Pooh or other fantasy world.

Shock: Obama Appointed Judge Voids Texas Voter Law

From the Houston Chronicle: A federal judge in Galveston on Thursday partially blocked new Texas registration laws that critics say amount to vote suppression because they prevent large voter registration drives.
U.S. District Judge Gregg Costa blocked the state from enforcing five provisions of the laws that its defenders say are aimed at preventing voter fraud.
"Today's ruling means that community groups and organizations like Voting for America and Project Vote will be able to run community voter registration drives in Texas," plaintiff's attorney Chad Dunn said. "These drives are important to reaching the millions of Texans, including three-quarters of a million African-Americans and 2 million Latinos, who are eligible but still not registered to vote."
Dunn represents two Galveston County residents and the nonprofit voter registration group Voting for America, an affiliate of the nonpartisan Project Vote based in Washington, D.C.
"They don't care how you vote as long as you get registered and participate," Dunn said.

Talk About A "God's Will" Moment

The pastor of an Indiana megachurch lost his job after being careless with cell phone pictures showing him making out with a young woman.
The girl may be as young as 16, and police are now investigating Jack Schaap.
Schaap, 54, was fired from First Baptist Church in Hammond on Tuesday after 11 years in the pulpit, a church spokesman told WBBM-TV.
Former First Baptist member Trisha Kee said Schaap left his cell phone behind and a deacon picked it up to bring it to him.
“The deacon then saw a text come through from a teenage girl in the church, and it was a picture of Jack Schaap and this girl making out,” she said.
The spokesman would not confirm the girl’s age, but said she was thought to be over 18. Others believe she is about 16, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Illegal immigrants are ineligible to practice law in California, President Obama's Justice Department told the state's high court in a rebuff to a man who was brought to the United States as a toddler and worked his way through college and law school.
Federal law bars the state from issuing an attorney's license to Sergio C. Garcia and would also prohibit him from working as a lawyer, the Justice Department said in a filing Wednesday with the court, which had requested its opinion.
The 1996 law, which denies "public benefits" to illegal immigrants, was drafted to "preclude undocumented aliens from receiving commercial and professional licenses issued by states and the federal government," Justice Department lawyers told the court.
They disagreed with the State Bar's Committee of Bar Examiners and with state Attorney General Kamala Harris, both of whom have recommended that Garcia be admitted to the bar and said federal law leaves such issues up to the states. A similar case is pending in Florida.
Garcia, who lives in Chico, was brought to California by his parents at age 2, returned to Mexico with them at 9 and came back with them at 17.
His father, now a U.S. citizen, sponsored Garcia's application for legal status and a green card in 1994. The California Supreme Court has the final say and my guess is that thye will allow Garcia to become a judge.
It also seems that the Obama DOJ is cherry picking as to what is acceptable and what is not and these kind of cases will continue to dog the DOJ because they really don't know what they are supposed to do.

From the Chicago Tribune: Those who follow her Twitter feed know that Roseanne Barr, the 59-year-old actress and comedian, has been running for president for a year now. Originally, she promoted herself as the standard-bearer of the Green Party.
Now, her White House quest has taken a different turn. She announced Thursday that she will run for president on the Peace and Freedom Party ticket. Her running mate, Barr said in a news release, will be Cindy Sheehan, whose son,U.S. Army Spec. Casey Sheehan, was killed in Iraq in 2004. In August 2005, the Gold Star mother mounted a lonely antiwar protest outside President George W. Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas.
"The American people are sick and tired of this 'lesser evil’ garbage they get fed every election year,” Barr said via the news release. “Both the Democrats and the Republicans do the same evils once they’re in office. I’m here to tell the voters: if you want to tell the government and the two domineering parties that you’re sick and tired of all their evil, register in the Peace and Freedom Party and vote for me and Cindy.”
In the release, Sheehan, who was vilified by the right for her Crawford vigil, said she was honored to be selected as Barr’s running mate. “I am excited about the chance to infuse the message of socialism with the heart and soul that is missing from political discourse,” she said.
The Peace and Freedom Party was founded in Los Angeles in 1967. It came about after demonstrators protesting the Vietnam War were attacked by police in Century City, where President Lyndon B. Johnson was holding a fundraiser, and has struggled ever since to qualify for ballot status.

Watch Out, Here Comes El Nino

Looking ahead, it appears that El Nino is continuing to develop. El Nino was in the early stages of development a month ago, too early for the NWS to consider including it in the climate forecast with any degree of certainty. Now though, as El Nino continues to form, the NWS has issued an El Nino Watch for 2012.
"We were expecting it to develop. It takes three consecutive months to say we've got an El Nino," explained Mathews. "We are expecting it to develop in September. El Nino is here."
El Nino is a warming of sea surface temperatures in the eastern Equatorial Pacific Ocean. Evidence of that process first surfaced in July and has continued. The expectation is that El Nino will continue through the upcoming winter. The effect on North Dakota can be a substantial change from what is considered a normal winter.
The El Nino Watch favors below normal temperatures and precipitation in the fall and above normal temperatures and below normal snowfall for the winter months. Warmer winter conditions for the state would be the result of El Nino diverting the polar jet stream further north. The current Climate Outlook takes into consideration the warm and dry conditions that currently exist throughout much of the state.

Romney Coming To Place Where Obama refuses To Go

Mitt Romney is coming to North Las Vegas, a place that President Obama is scared to go to.
From the Las Vegas Sun: Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney will rally supporters in North Las Vegas on Friday before traveling to Reno for a series of private fundraisers.
The North Las Vegas campaign rally was added to Romney’s schedule at the last minute. The campaign had been considering a public event in Reno to coincide with the fundraisers, but decided against it out of respect for one of the victims in the Aurora, Colo., shooting.
Funeral services for former Reno resident Jonathan Blunk, who died shielding his girlfriend from bullets in the movie theater shooting, also are scheduled for Friday. In observance of the funeral, Romney will be doing no public or media events in Reno.
Instead, he will give a speech to supporters at Sierra Truck and Body Equipment in North Las Vegas. Doors open to the public at 7:15 a.m.

Coward Floyd Maryweather is out of jail, being released at 12:10 AM.  He got out of jail and drove himself away.
Unlike what his lawyers said in the past, Maryweather walked out of CCDC under his own power and was not famished or dehydrated.
Now, the over/under  for months before he is sent back to jail?  I'd say 20 months.

No Second Season For Hutterites

From the Examiner.com: There will be no second season of the "American Colony: The Hutterites" on National Geographic Channel, according to one of the main characters featured in the show. It was mentioned on a personal Facebook page, and the reasons given were:

1. They don't want to.
2. This one season they made didn't portray their life the way it really is.
3. They're in enough trouble as it is.

John Stahl, the Bishop of 160 Dariusleut Hutterite Colonies in Canada and the United States including King Ranch Colony, issued a very stern statement about the television program. Probably this pronouncement is what sounded the death knell for the popular reality show that has developed a cult following.

We are deeply disappointed with the National Geographic Channel’s depiction of the Hutterite people in their so called reality series, American Family: Meet The Hutterites, filmed at the King Ranch Hutterite Colony in Montana. It’s unfortunate that Jeff Collin’s and his production team chose to come through the back door rather than the proper channels to receive permission to film our people.
What was promised by the producers to be a “factual documentary” is in fact a distorted and exploitative version of Hutterite Life that paints all 50,000 Hutterites in North America in a negative and inaccurate way. Scenes and dialogue were contrived resulting in a “make believe” depiction of how we live and the spiritual beliefs we cherish.
We were reassured by the fact that it will be shown on the National Geographic channel. With its stellar reputation, the National Geographic has in the past been a hallmark for accuracy and sensitivity in its portrayal of the world’s cultures and religions.
This is not the case in this instance and we are compelled to say so in defense of the Hutterite people and the values and traditions we hold dear in a changing world and a challenging time.
We are deeply saddened by the skewed image with which the public may now perceive the Hutterite faith and way of Life. It is distorted and damaging and we feel betrayed. We understand very well that we are not perfect and we face many challenges. Nevertheless, our vision is to live meaningful Christian lives in community as Christ has instructed us to do.

I am not surprised as National Geographic obviously lied about what they were going to do in their telling of the story about the Hutterites.  The producers got greedy and stupid and the Colony and audience get screwed.
Oh, and Claudia is not going to college:  Apparently, the story line involving Claudia was fake and Claudia is not going to college.

American Colony: Meet The Hutterites season Review

 

Season 1 of the show American Colony: Meet The Hutterites concluded on Tuesday and the show had it's controversies and it's lessons.
The biggest plus of the season is that it introduced the Hutterites to America in which few people knew existed before the show started.  Most of the true learning is what we learned online and the books we read, not from the show.
However, the bad part of the show is that the show did not show the Hutterites in it's true light.  The producers and actors tried to make the Hutterites from King Colony as your typical family(s) who drink, swear, steal, disrespect, take credit for something they did not do, lie, poison, break the laws of man, break the rules of the Hutterite religion, give false impressions, fighting and so much more.
The Hutterie religion prides itself for being different.  They dress different, they live differently, they talk different, their education and they have different values.  Not everyone could be a Hutterite, even if a Colony accepted them because of their high standards,.but the producers tried their very best to try and shown as normal, everyday kids and young adults.  They are not and that is why they are "Outliers".
But it's not just me saying that this show was a farce, other, real Hutterites, including King Colony's Bishop said the show was a farce: "We are deeply disappointed with the National Geographic Channel's depiction of the Hutterite people in their so-called reality series, 'American Colony: Meet The Hutterites,' filmed at the King Ranch Hutterite Colony in Montana. Obviously, the show had reenactments on the show and while these segments were poorly done, they still insulted the vast majority of Hutterites.
But there several areas that got me upset about the show- they totally disregarded Hutterite customs, for one.
The men are not allowed to have facial hair if they are not married and if they are married, they may not have mustache hair.  The women are also not allowed to have wedding bands.  Marriage is very sacred to the Hutterites, so much so, they do not allow divorces, so to see the King Colony flaunt these long held customs is maddening. Further, the lack of religion in the show is troubling.  Everything they do on the Colony is about God and yet it is rarely mentioned.  It's like the producers didn't want to insult the audience with too much Christian religion.
Of course, the money issues were completely misleading to the average viewer.  But in a Hutterite Colony, all the money is the colonies, not the individual.  But yet, Claudia supposedly got a job to get a cell phone, Bertha got a haircut, Claudia going to college, etc.  In Hutterite society, it truly is "what yours is mine and what mine is yours".
It also made me frustrated with all the lies they made up just to make themselves more important.  When Claudia claimed she was an EMT, when the guys said they were registered firefighters, to lying about making the beds, the hunting scenes and so much more.  Lying and disrespect of elders and family was common and yet if that happened in real life, it would have dealt with the by the elders.and it would not have been pretty.
And the ever famous jerky scene when one of the guys supposedly sprayed another's with air freshener even though it was cooking spray.  Attempted poisoning, I am sure it is against the law and against the values of Hutterites who are also not supposed to be competitive because they are pacifists.
And speaking of pacifism, how about all that fighting during the season, both verbal and physical.  Way to show the Hutterite values of pacifism, another main tenant of the Hutterite religion.
I can go on.  Yes, of course, it is a TV show and only a show.  But this is also a show that is run by the National Geographic Channel, not Bravo.  This isn't the Jerry Spring Show, it is a show about a religious sect.  We were promised by the producers an accurate portrayal of the Hutterites and all we got was a dysfunctional family worthy of being of the most dysfunctional families in TV history, rivaling the Bundy's on Married With Children.

The Media Is All Gaga About Seeing A Swimmer's Nipple...

But is you watched the game, you saw more butt crack that would be allowed on most TV channels.  But it also takes away from what these women did in the pool- playing an exciting hard fought game in which the U.S. women won.
From Fox News:  We can complain all we want about NBC’s tape delayed Olympics coverage, but you know what happens when they listen to us and show an event live? Those sex-mad Olympians start flashing boobs like crazy!
…ok, maybe not. But there did appear to be a very brief nipple slip during the live Spain-United States women’s water polo match a few hours ago.
Don’t get too excited. The moment, noticed by the folks over at Deadspin, is fast enough that only someone who has never seen a naked breast before could ever really be that intrigued. And, in the high speed Internet age, I’m not sure there’s anyone left like that. I watched the game and it was a great game and those women were more dirty than the male polo players.
The women kicked, scratched, dunked and hit their opponents (on both sides) besides playing a great game.  But when the girls came out of the water, it looked like a bent over plumber convention with all the butt cracks showing.
But that's not the part of the match I enjoyed, it was the hard play and the endurance these athletes showed.

U.S. Men's Basketball Team Doubles Up On Nigeria

Spoiler Alert: If you don't want to know what happened, don't read the following.
From ESPN: The U.S. team had scored 100 points by the middle of the third quarter. It was that kind of night for the Americans.
Two Olympic marks and several U.S. records fell.
Carmelo Anthony scored 37 points, dropping 10 of 12 3-pointers, and the Americans rewrote the Olympic record book with a scintillating shooting performance and 156-73 win Thursday night, an epic blowout that seemed to send a message to the rest of the men's tournament field.
Anthony set the American Olympic mark for points in a game -- in less than three quarters. The U.S. also set the Olympic record for points in a game and points in a half (78). The Americans bettered the U.S. records as well for 3-pointers (26), field goals (59) and field-goal percentage (71).
Incredibly, they eclipsed the 100-point mark with 5 minutes left in the third.
And when Andre Iguodala hit a 3-pointer with 4:37 left, the Americans had surpassed the previous Olympic record of 138 points set by Brazil against Egypt in 1988. The U.S. team scored 3.25 every minute of the game.  The team scored 29 3-point goals.  6 players scored in double digits and everyone scored at least 2 points.  Finally, to show it was a team effort, the team had 41 assists.
I think this team wants to prove they are the best Dream Team ever.

Romney Slams Crybaby Reid While Reid Doesn't Believe In The Constitution

From Political Ticker: Mitt Romney on Thursday pushed back against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's allegations that the presumptive GOP nominee has not been paying his taxes. "It's time for Harry to put up or shut up," Romney said on Sean Hannity's radio show....Harry's gonna have to describe who it is he spoke with because of course that's totally and completely wrong," Romney said Thursday in the radio interview. "It's untrue, dishonest and inaccurate. It's wrong. So I'm looking forward to have Harry reveal his sources and we'll probably find out that it's the White House."....
Mirroring Romney's comments, senior campaign adviser Eric Fehrnstrom described Reid's comments as "shameful, pathetic, baseless and untrue" and argued the majority leader, with the help of the Obama campaign, was attempting to "engage in McCarthy-like accusations about Mitt Romney."
In a Huffington Post interview published Tuesday, the leading Democrat said that an unnamed investor with Bain Capital, Romney's former private equity firm, told Reid in a phone conversation that Romney had not paid taxes for a decade.
Reid stood by the allegations on Thursday while speaking on the Senate floor.
"The word's out that he hasn't paid any taxes for 10 years," he said. "Let him prove he has paid taxes because he hasn't."

First, Reid apparently has not heard the term, "innocent until proven guilty".  But then Reid isn't a lawyer.  Oh, wait, he is.  Maybe it's his dementia.
I do hope that Romney does come back at Crybaby Reid stronger than that and produce a commercial starring Crybaby Harry and his false accusation and play it in Nevada where Reid is still hated by most of the people, despite his election in 2010.

What, Shelly Berkley Lies Again?

 

Shelly Berkley is running for U.S. Senate and she is running on lies in her commercials (what a shock, a politician lies)
In her commercial which features a Chef from Treasure Island, there is this printed quote from the commercial:  Shelly Berkley saved Nevada's only  kidney transplant center: Las Vegas Sun 9/7/2011
Well, here is what the Las Vegas Sun said on 9/7/11.  From the Las Vegas Sun editorial:
It is no secret that Berkley, who is running for the U.S. Senate, is married to a doctor and that she is a strong advocate for quality health care. The Times’ article pointed out that Berkley, along with other members of the congressional delegation, pushed to keep the UMC kidney transplant center open after it ran into problems with federal regulators. Because her husband’s practice has a contract with the hospital, there must be a conflict, right? Wrong.
Berkley was correct to advocate for UMC. The state had no other transplant center, and as a result of her work, the UMC center is
now improved, and Nevadans don’t have to leave the state for care. The idea that her advocacy on behalf of the good of all Nevadans is some sort of conflict of interest is ridiculous. This is just a political scientist who is suggesting that she saved a clinic and saying what her strategy should be.  And of course, the quote from the commercial is not there.
So, once again, Shelly Berkley is a liar.  And since she is a serial liar, is that who we want as a U.S. Senator?  We already have one serial liar in the U.S. Senate from Nevada, why would we need a second one?

According To Obama, Trickle Down Economics Doesn't Work....

President Obama, in his commercials say that the Republicans trickle down theory is what "caused this mess", then what does it say about Obama's policies who have made the situation worse?
If Obama's policies were better than the conservatives, wouldn't we be seeing a lower unemployment rate, lower debt, lower prices in food, energy, medical costs etc?

This Is A Good Idea: Tax Free Weekend

This weekend, in Florida, they are not going to charge a sales tax on school supplies.
From the Orlando Sentinel: There will be no sales taxes on most school supplies that sell for $15 or less. Clothing, footwear and some accessories — as long as each item or pair of shoes costs $75 or less — are exempt. The tax break goes for many types of clothing — not just children's.
The fine print of what does and doesn't get taxed can get a little confusing. Taxes do apply to computer and printer paper but not notebook paper. Shoppers will pay tax on cosmetic bags but not diaper bags. And you'll still have to pay a tax on thread, buttons, tape, iron-on patches and zippers.

Long Island Newsday is reporting that CBS has two ‘Brady Bunch’ projects in the works.
The first is a spin-off show with a premise that involves an adult Bobby Brady as a divorced dad who remarries. Vince Vaughn’s production company has received a “script commitment” from CBS on Tuesday but it is not known if the show will go into production. Vaughn is not expected to be cast in it.
Lloyd Schwartz will oversee the project and is the son of the late Sherwood Schwartz, who originally created the series.
Additionally, CBS Eye Productions is developing a reality version of “The Brady Bunch” with a working title of “Modern Stepfamilies.” A casting call notice asks: “Is your family a modern-day ‘Brady Bunch’ [and] Would you be excited to share with the nation the various challenges of merging households?”

Cardinal George Slams Government Over Chic Fill A

From the Chicago Tribune: Chicago Cardinal Francis George has stepped in the ring on Chick-fil-A’s gay marriage controversy in a blog post, criticizing Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s statement that the fast food chain’s values “are not Chicago values.”
“Recent comments by those who administer our city seem to assume that the city government can decide for everyone what are the ‘values’ that must be held by citizens of Chicago,” George wrote on the Archdiocese of Chicago’s blog Sunday. “I was born and raised here, and my understanding of being a Chicagoan never included submitting my value system to the government for approval. Must those whose personal values do not conform to those of the government of the day move from the city?”

This issue is not about gay marriage.  This issue deal with fascists in government who believe that everyone has to believe in what the government officials believe and if you don't, then you will be sanctioned.  That is the scary part.
The politicians who say they won't allow Chic Fill A into their city/state are in reality the bigot themselves.  These fascists like Rahm Emmanuel ( a very close associate of President Obama) and this bigoted alderman are the problem and they are the bigots.  And for some reason, it seems, like these bigots are liberals.  What a shock.

Girls Scouts Being Sued By Deaf Girl For Discrimination

From the Chicago Tribune: Megan Runnion, who is deaf, can't understand the hallway chatter of her classmates at her elementary school, but for six years her Girl Scout troop gave her a social life in the hearing world.
The local Girl Scouts council paid for a sign-language interpreter to attend Megan's Girl Scout meetings, a camping trip and other outings.
But a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday on the 12-year-old's behalf alleged that the Girl Scouts abruptly disbanded Megan's Schaumburg troop early this year in retaliation for her mother's efforts to keep the 100-year-old organization paying for the interpreter.
The suit alleged that the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana excluded Megan because of her disability in violation of the federal Rehabilitation Act.
"She can't be part of the group if she doesn't understand what's being said," said her mother, Edie Runnion....
Megan, who has been deaf since birth, joined the Girl Scouts in kindergarten, her mother said. At the time, her mother requested that an interpreter be present at Scouting activities, and the Girl Scouts agreed to that, she said.But in the fall of 2011, the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana told Runnion that the "council does not pay for these services," the lawsuit alleged. Runnion made another request in October for her daughter to have an interpreter for a rock climbing event the next month.
But the local council complied only after Equip for Equality, a Chicago-based advocacy group for people with physical or mental disabilities, and the National Association for the Deaf sent a letter requesting an interpreter for the event, according to the lawsuit.
The Girl Scouts called the measure temporary and said it was in the process of forming a uniform policy, the lawsuit alleged. In January, Megan and her mother were at a troop dinner when the leaders broke the news that the troop was disbanding immediately, Runnion said.

Here is the problem I have with the lawsuit.  How come the mother didn't help her daughter out by signing for her at some or all of the meetings? 
Also, why didn't the family help the Girl Scouts by offering to teach sign language to members of the Troop.  If Megan's family would have helped in these ways, the lawsuit would not be needed. 
When a family has a disabled child, they need to meet halfway with nonprofits like the Girl Scouts and this family appears they just wanted to take and take. 
So, what could have done to solve the situation:
1.  The family helps with interpretation.
2.  Girl Scouts could have taught girls from the Scout Troop basic sign language.
3.  Groups like Equip for Equality (who had to put their 2 cents in on the subject) and other groups for deaf could have helped by volunteering to interpret.
4.  Recruited a high school student to help with interpreting.
In this case, it seems tome the family is more at fault than the Girl Scouts.  The family just cannot sit around and do nothing and expect others to do all the work.  Hopefully, the Girls Scouts prevail in this case.

And Here I was Going To be Nice To Crybaby Harry Reid But...

Today, I was actually going to write something nice about Crybaby Harry Reid and a letter he/his staff sent me about a question I had asked of them.  But then Crybaby Harry turns around does something very sleazy:
From the LVRJ: Sen. Harry Reid caused a stir this week when he told an interviewer that Mitt Romney hasn't released more of his tax returns because "he didn't pay taxes for 10 years." On Wednesday, Reid doubled down on the charge.
In an interview published Tuesday, Reid said an investor in Bain Capital, the former private equity firm of the Republican presidential candidate, told him in a phone call that Romney had paid zero taxes.
"Now, do I know that that's true? Well, I'm not certain," Reid told the Huffington Post, declining to identify his source. "But obviously he can't release those tax returns. How would it look?"  http://www.lvrj.com/news/reid-doubles-down-on-romney-tax-charge-164680576.html
So, Reid repeats something a person who supposedly said to him, doesn't know if it is true or not but says it anyways.  How sleazy is that?
So, Crybaby Reid, who is your source?  Who from Bain told you and how did they have access to Romney's tax returns?
Then Reid comes back with this:
Asked to elaborate on his sources, Reid declined. "No, that's the best you're going to get from me."
"I don't think the burden should be on me," Reid said. "The burden should be on him. He's the one I've alleged has not paid any taxes. Why didn't he release his tax returns?"
Umm, no Crybaby Reid, you made the accusation, you need to provide the name of the sources.
I guess my nice piece on Reid may have to wait until Reid behaves like a rational, ethical human being, which means, never.

Could It Be?

Could it be that the gentleman in this below commercial for Shelly Berkley is also a financial supporter and Democratic activist?

He also has given at least $1000 to Berkley.
The problem I have with this commercial isn't so much that he may be a kidney patient, but the Berkley campaign wants us to believe that the guy in the commercial is some guy who is neutral in politics and is only thankful to Berkley for saving the kidney program at UMC.  But the gentleman is not, he is a party activist and financial donor to Berkley.  What a shock.

Another Reason To Break Up CCSD

Size wise, the Clark County School district is about the larges in the Country, with almost 8000 square miles in the County.
In the County, we have 1 school district, CCSD and the entire county is in CCSD.  Besides the Las Vegas Valley, the next biggest populated areas are Henderson (mostly in the Valley) Boulder City, Laughlin and Mesquite.  Smaller communities include Moapa, Overton, Indian Springs, Cold Creek, Goodsprings, Sandy Valley, Mount Charleston, Cal-Nv-Ari, Searchlight, Blue Diamond, Bunkerville, Mountain Springs and Logandale- all of which has fewer than 1000 people residing in them.
CCSD has schools that range from 1 or 2 room schools with maybe 10-20 kids in them in some rural areas to schools with 3000+ kids in the school.
Because of this, there is no way to compare the needs of kids in the rural area to the kids in the urban areas.  This story illustrates the problem CCSD has: The squeaky wheel gets a $6.6 million gym.
Moapa Valley residents learned that lesson Wednesday after a heated Clark County School Board meeting, when a member up for re-election initiated a vote on the issue while facing 100 of her frustrated constituents.
"Let's calm it down," Board President Linda Young told her colleagues at one point in the deliberation.
The Clark County School District has a long list of $1.8 billion in needed capital projects -- replacing failing air-conditioning systems, fire alarms, leaky roofs and dilapidated schools. But board members just recently learned they had funding for some of the projects. More than $44.6 million became available because of unexpected savings from other capital projects and idle money that had been set aside to buy land for new schools.
Not all projects can be undertaken, so district staff and a committee recommended the highest needs be fulfilled to keep schools running, such as new air-conditioning systems and roofs and other things at 22 schools. The aging air-conditioners at more than a dozen schools had outages in May.
A new, full-sized gym for Moapa Valley High School wasn't on that short list.
However, School Board members ultimately added the project to the list in a 4-3 vote and made it a priority, which means other projects will have to be bumped. A local architect had already mocked up a design and estimated a $6.6 million construction cost for the gym, but the actual design and cost haven't been finalized.

If CCSD had been broken up, this would not be an issue except in Moapa.  It's really not fair for Moapa to be ruled by Trustees and administration who live 75 or more miles away.  And it's really not fair for CCSD to have send supplies, teachers, food, repair technicians and supplies and other things to Moapa from Las Vegas.
CCSD needs to be broken up into at least 4 different districts. Henderson, Boulder City and the smaller areas to the southeast would be 1.  Unincorporated Clark County and Goodsprings, Sandy Valley and Primm area would be the second area.  City of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas and unincorporated Clark County to the Hwy 93 turnoff would be in the 3rd district and Mesquite, Moapa, Logandale and the other small areas down to the Hwy 93 turnoff would be the 4th district.
But the urban areas don't want to split up the district because the outlying rural areas bring up the test scores and graduation rates of the district up and they like that the rural areas bring in more than their fair share tax money.
The rural districts don't want the responsibilities of running a school district and they would save on the administrative costs.
But CCSD has gotten too big both student wise and area wise and it needs to be broken up and this story above illustrates why it should happen.

Coward/Crbaby Harry Reid has some nerve calling out people when he is one of the most corrupt and vile person on the face of the earth.
From the Pahrump Valley Times:
“You know, when you’re in this government, this business of politics, the only thing that you have is your word,” Reid told a reporter. “I can be as partisan as I have to be, but I always try to be nice. I try never to say bad things about people.
“Bill Magwood is one of the,” — Reid reportedly paused, deciding which adjective to reach for, before picking them all — “most unethical, prevaricating” — he paused again, this time for a reported 10 full seconds — “incompetent people I’ve ever dealt with.”
The senator went on to describe how Magwood lied right to his face.

So, You Want To be A Firefighter?

From Firehouse.com: A mid-July blaze at a Middletown Township apartment complex that trapped four firefighters was captured by a helmet camera and released on Friday....
Around 125 firefighters from fire departments throughout Bucks County responded to the lightning-sparked blaze at the three-story Windsor at Harper's Crossing apartments on July 15 shortly after 10 p.m...
At the one-minute, seven-second mark in the video, firefighters are ordered to pull out of the third floor.
Newtown's Rescue 45 was set to act as the RIT, but the unit was still en route to the fire. Stoner's crew took over RIT operations.
At the one-minute, 43-second mark, the first Mayday is called. According to Stoner, there were four firefighters on the third floor when the roof collapsed.
Just after the two-minute mark, the two firefighters who called the Mayday jumped over the second-floor railing onto a small overhang and were rescued by firefighters using ground ladders.
At the two-minute, eight-second mark, the second mayday was sounded for the remaining two firefighters. After their location was given, Stoner's crew went in for them.

Difference Between Conservatives And Liberals

Slightly modified from the Chicago Tribune (and probaly other places):

If a conservative doesn't like guns, don't buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns, they want all guns outlawed.
If a conservative is a vegetarian, they don't eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, they want all meat products banned for everyone.
If a conservative is heterosexual, they quietly lead their life.
If a liberal is homosexual, they demand legislated respect.
If a conservative is down-and-out, they think about how to better his situation.
If a liberal is down and out, they wonder who is going to take care of him.
If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, they switch channels.
If a liberal doesn't like a talk show host they demand it be shut down.

I think this is pretty much true.

More American Colony: Meet The Hutterites Fake Stories

On Tuesday, we had the season finale as we had the story lines of a bunch of underage and adults held a drinking party in the calving barn on heir ranch. 
Earlier in the series, we had a view of their calving barn and it looked nothing like what we saw during the supposed party and fire.
In the fire, there was no ceiling on the "barn" and the "barn" had a a lot space between the wooden pieces, so there wasn't a fire in the calving barn.
Further, when they got into their fire trucks and went to the scene, I had to wonder where the rest of the Moore Rural Fire District was wit their tankers and fire engines..  Why didn't they go to the scene?  Finally, no one uses the term "registered firemen".  They are volunteer firefighters, except I doubt they are volunteer firefighters.  We have seen many scenes of their vehicle storage area, including when they getting their ATV's ready for the race and we have never seen any fire trucks.
And if they were firefighters, why didn't they put water on the fire?  Perhaps they don't know how?
The fake segments of the show is Claudia going to college.  First the letter regarding financial aid has no formal letterhead on it.  Further, just tuition at great Falls College is almost $21,000 and including room and board, the total is about $26,500.  Even with financial aid, she is still going to have to pay a large portion of the cost.  Since Claudia would be basically kicked out of the Colony, where would she get the money?
If Claudia really wanted to go to college, why doesn't she go to the University of Northern Montana-Lewistown?  Tuition is about $6000 less per semester at UNM-Lewistown and she would not need room and board.  But they do not offer Psychology, but there are other University of Montana campuses that do. 
As far as the Baptism, here is what they say about it:
Baptism is one of the most important steps in the life of a Hutterite. Baptism is when Hutterites make a vow to God and to the church to remain steadfast and faithful for the remainder of their lives. It is taken very seriously by members.

Long before baptism is requested, the individual is expected to show clear signs of a regenerate life, and a commitment to the faith. It is an important decision in the life of a Hutterite and proper emphasis is placed on preparation. Individual who have shown through their lifestyle that they are truly serious and really want to belong to the church of God are baptized.
 When young people feel ready to make a commitment to baptism, they meet with the senior minister and make a formal request.  The minister brings this request to the whole brotherhood and if there are no objections, they are accepted for a probation period. Every Sunday afternoon for 6 to 7 weeks, the baptismal candidates visit each of the witness brothers who provides spiritual and religious teachings ranging in length from ten minutes to over an hour.

I'm just saying, but having a drinking party and supposedly starting a barn fire just before you ask the elder preacher to be baptized is not a good idea.  But the Hutterites are a forgiving group of people.
And now the question will be if there will be a season 2.  My TV guide says this was just a season finale, meaning there will be another season.  My guess is that since this is Nat Geo's 2nd highest rated show, they will probably be back, though the Bishops that supervise the King Colony may not want the 2nd season because they really hate the show.
