Pawn Stars Review: Decembver 6, 2010

Las Vegas is recovering from a heck of a weekend. We had NASCAR, the National Finals Rodeo, a marathon race that attracted 28,000 runners and the American Country Music Awards just this past weekend. Time to relax for a new Pawns stars episode, or in this case, Chumlee behaves like my big dumb dopey dog episodes.
In the first episode, the first guy brought in a Navy searchlight from 1944 and from a PT boat. The guy wanted around $1500. Rick offered $800 because the light could not be associated with a particular ship. The light went for $1000.
The next guy brought in a hat that was supposedly worn by John Wayne. So far, Chumlee has been in 2 scenes and acted like a total ass in both segments. The hat was supposedly worn in a movie. It was a prop hat and there was no proof that it was worn by John Wayne. Time for an expert. Mark Allen from Western Stage Props. He determined that the hat size was too small. There was no sale.
The next guy brought in a Rembrandt etching and Chumlee is in this scene and acted like a stupid fool for a 3rd time. The Rembrandt was supposedly found in a garage sale and bought for $10. This was more of an etching than a painting. Time for another expert. Brett came in from Art Encounter. Brett said it was a Rembrandt etching. He thought the value was $3000. The guy want $1500 and Rick offered $1200 and that was the sale price. Nice profit.
The next guy had a Howard by Baldwin baby grand piano with ivory keys. It was out of tune. They guy wanted $1500 for it and Rick offered $900 and that was a sale. Chumlee and the guys had to pick up the piano from the home, which weighed several hundred pounds.
The next lady brought in a Jolly Musical Chap, which is a monkey with symbols that moved. The thing still worked and it was loud. She wanted $100. The Old Man took the offer and then offered $150. Hmmm.
The last guy brought in a 1977 bleacher seat from the old Yankee Stadium that was supposed to been hit by a Reggie Jackson home run in the World Series. Rick offered $75. They guy wanted $1000. No sale.
None of these items were in the store when we visited the Gold and Silver Shop this past Saturday.
In the 2nd episode, the first guy brought in an old miniature slot machine. This machine was in the shop on Saturday. The machine was from Colorado, so it took tokens not money. They opened it up and not much was inside. They guy wanted $600 and Rick took the offer.
The next guy had a CJ-5 Jeep from 1973. It was in rough shape. They guy put on a fiberglass tub/body. It looked pretty ugly. The guy wanted $2500. Corey and the Old Man offered $1500 and then $1800 and that was the sale price. Danny was given the Jeep to work on. They brought out a ugly puke green Jeep. They said it was an army jeep flavor- umm no. It cost $5500 to restore for a total of $7300. Not worth it. They went off roading afterwards.
The next guy brought a 1861 Gold Piece from a bails bonds man. He owed $50,000 on a bond. Time for an expert. Andrew came in from American Coin Express. He gave it a grade of 63, which made the coin worth $40,000. Rick offered $30,000. The guy countered with $35,000. It went for $34,000. Wonder if they have to do special tax forms?
The next guy brought in old NASA pictures and negatives from Apollo 17. 29 pictures and 29 negatives. Time for an expert, Mark, from the Clark County Museum and the McCarren Airport museum. He said that the negatives were actually positives, which were put out by NASA in the form of a press kit. They were not rare and there was no sale.
Chumlee was not present in most segments, so we were not treated to a Chumlee acts like a dumb ass episode.
Have a nice week and more new episodes next week.

  1. Last night I watched the "John Wayne Hat" episode. I may have found the movie this hat was used. This morning while watching the movie about General MacArthur. I saw the "John Wayne Hat" it was on the head of the Lt. General, MacArthur was speaking to. It is in the first 20 minutes of the movie.
