Pawn Stars Review: September 13, 2010

Another week in Las Vegas where are getting into the silly season of politics. School is in full swing, nights are getting longer and soon it will be Autumn. If you want to get into the pawn business in Las Vegas, E-Z Pawn is hiring and is having a job fair tomorrow. http://sales.jobs.net/j/sales-job-fair_J8G36W62Y5405JV3H18.aspx
Two new episodes on Pawn Stars.
In the first episode, the first guy brought in a 1966 "Yesterday" butcher Beatles album. It was the Yesterday album with a picture of the Beatles with baby parts. The guy wanted $2100 to start with. Rick offered $1200 and then $1250 and that was the selling price. WOW!!!!
The next lady brought in WWII ear flag with 48 stars. It was called a Garrison flag. It was quite large and it is something you see on flag poles. The flag was designed by a 17 year old kid. Rick's offer was $150 and she took it right away.
The next guy brought in a Antique watchmaker's tool. I think they had a watchmaker tool set in an earlier episode. Time for the expert. Ferdinand came in (we've seen him before) He says the tool set from before 1900 and it was a novelty. Rick offered $20 and it was no sale.
The next came in with Col. Sander's suit, from the real Harlan Sanders, of KFC. The guy wanted $40,000. Rick didn't make an offer because he didn't know how much it would sell for.
The next guy brought in a document signed by Grover Cleveland, whose face is on the $1000 bill. Time for a autograph specialist. Not like Hard Core Pawn, where they are the experts. Anyways, Dana came in and said the signature was Cleveland's. The guy wanted $250 and Corey offered $100 and that was selling price. No haggling.
The next guy brought in a punch ball punching game. You hit it like a punching bag and measures your strength. The guy wanted $1000. Corey offered $600 and the $650. So they battled to see what price it will sell for Corey vs the owner. The owner won, kicked Corey's butt and the price was $700.
In the second episode, the first guy brought in a dragster, like a top fuel- not funny car. The top speed is 190 mph, so not too fast for a dragster. The guy wanted $30,000 for the dragster and the trailer. Time for an expert and they were going down to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The expert was Mark. It is a Super Comp dragster. The dragster is going to need work and certification. They took the dragster to the drag strip at the LVMS. That is no easy feat. They have to open it up and have EMS and rescue truck people to stand by, not to mention other employees. Yeah, that will cost a few more bucks. The LVMS has NASCAR races, a drag strip, a road course and a short track. It is across the street from Nellis AFB and the jets fly over the race track daily. It's pretty awesome place to be. But back to the dragster. Rick test drove the dragster at about 20mph down the drag strip. The guy wanted $25,000 and then $18,000. Rick offered about $11,000 but there was no sale.
The next guy brought in 4 Japanese land mines- real ones. It's a training set. They were not explosive. Time for Mark, from the Clark County Museum. Mark's beard is getting bigger. He said a grenade was missing. The guy wanted $2500 and then $2000. Rick offered $800 and was firm and that was the selling price.
The next brought in a high wheel bicycle- the front wheel is huge with a tiny back wheel. The guy wanted $1500 and the Old Man offered $150 because it was not an original and there was no sale.
The next lady brought in a Wonder Bread Howdy Doody advertisement. It came from the late 50's. The lady wanted $500 and the Old Man offered $125 and then $100. And it for $150- the lady got the Old Man to come up- not bad.
So, another week of Pawn stars is over Enjoy the week.

$3,000,000,000 Nevada State Budget Deficit? NPRI Says No

It is common knowledge that most people say that the Nevada state budget for the next two years is going to be $3 billion. Well the Nevada Policy Research Institute says not so fast. The figures are not as bad and that the politicians and state employees are lying about the budget.
From NPRI: For the current, 2009-11 biennium, Nevada's general-fund budget is about $6.4 billion. For the next budget cycle, both Andrew Clinger, the governor's budget director, and Russell Guindon, senior deputy fiscal analyst at the Legislative Counsel Bureau (which is cited in Rory Reid's budget plan), have confirmed to the Nevada Policy Research Institute that they project Nevada will collect more than $5 billion in taxes — and this assumes that the 2009 legislative session's temporary tax hikes will expire.
In the real world, $5 billion minus $6.4 billion equals a deficit of $1.4 billion. But government accounting is not quite in the real world.
Instead, government accounting works like this: $5 billion minus ($6.4 billion budget plus a $1.5 billion spending increase) equals a $2.9 billion deficit....

But Clinger's assumptions, like most, also conceal the $1.5 billion spending increase. He has alluded to the spending increase by noting that the budget he's talking about assumes that furloughs and pay freezes will end, but, for individuals and reporters who aren't as intimately familiar with the budget as he is (read: everyone), that's easy to miss.
The end result has been that reporters, politicians and citizens are assuming and stating as fact that Nevada faces a $3 billion, 50 percent budget deficit out of its current, $6.4 billion budget. This is inaccurate. Neither Clinger nor the LCB is predicting that will be the case, but the "50 percent deficit" and "$3 billion budget deficit" falsehoods have spread throughout Nevada....

In real-world terms, to bring expenditures in line with projected revenues, Nevada only needs to decrease spending by about 20 percent from its current levels (or take more revenue from local governments).
Nevada can cut 20 percent from its budget. Many families and businesses in Nevada have already taken similar action with their own finances in the face of rising gas prices, lower wages, unexpected bills and higher taxes.
http://npri.org/publications/the-3-billion-deficit-myth
I think NPRI is correct, but the situation was made worse when Gibbons took the education stimulus money that is hiring teachers, paying bonuses and other expenditures. This is a one year only expenditure and money will need to be found next year or people will be layed off. Again.
But, I digress. The budget is bad but not quite as bad people think. Yes, there is some waste in State government, a lot more in CCSD and higher education and other areas of government. Can we cut 20%, especially with government mandates from the federal government? It is going to be tough though probably not impossible. It depends on the revenue stream from the casinos and other businesses and if we get more visitors from out of state.
But no matter what happens, it will be tough to be a legislator and governor in the next couple of years.

Harry Reid: Saving City Center Jobs: Plaza Hotel Lays Off 400

When Harry Reid said that he saved 22,000, he forgot to mention that other casinos and hotels had to lay off workers because of the glut of hotel rooms and that players that go to the City Center casino to play games, came from another casino.
So, today, the Plaza Hotel and Casino announced that they are going to layoff 400 employees while they do renovations.
From the Las Vegas Sun: "More than 400 employees of the Plaza Hotel & Casino face layoffs in the next 60 days as the downtown Las Vegas property closes its 1,037-room hotel and portions of its casino in early November.
While the company says the hotel closure will be followed by planned renovations of all guestrooms and hallways, it appears the closure is also associated with the recession that has hurt the Las Vegas gaming industry -- with downtown taking an especially brutal hit.
The Plaza will be "minimizing operations'' on Nov. 11, property manager Bobby Ray Harris told employees in a memo last week."

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/sep/13/plaza-lay-400-workers-temporarily-close-hotel/
Harry Reid is running commercials bragging that he saved 22,000 City Center jobs. I honestly don't know if that is true or not. But giving him the benefit of the doubt, let's say he did save those jobs. In return for saving those jobs, he cost other people their jobs because City Center helped create a glut of hotel rooms, restaurants, casinos and shops. Visitors to Las Vegas and locals are finite but the new mega hotels and casinos, including City Center, helped to create the glut, thus people are going to lose their jobs at other properties.
Unemployment did not go down when City Center opened but in fact, it went up and it continues to go up.
So, Harry Reid is blowing smoke when he brags about saving City Center jobs. He also cost hundreds if not thousands of people their jobs when City Center opened. I am sure those people are thrilled with Harry.

Violence At Las Vegas Middle School

Today, a student at Monaco Middle School, in the Northeast part of the Valley, brought a knife to school and threaten staff members with it.
From the Las Vegas Sun: "Metro Police took a middle school student into custody this morning after he allegedly swung a knife at two school district employees.
Metro spokeswoman Barbara Morgan said police received a call at 8:19 a.m. about a boy at Mario C. & JoAnne Monaco Middle School who was wielding a knife. Authorities said he allegedly swung at two employees before fleeing the school. No one was injured, Morgan said"

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/sep/13/police-searching-middle-school-student-knife/
According to Channel 13 News at 6:00, the young thug put the knife to a school staff member and took her out into the hallway. The thug also took a swing at the school's Dean.
From the LVRJ: A 14-year-old male student at Monaco Middle School faces charges of kidnapping, bringing a deadly weapon to campus and assault with a deadly weapon after holding a switchblade knife to a school secretary's throat and trying to stab the school's dean about 8 a.m. today , according to Las Vegas police.
The dean dodged the "swiping" motion of the student's knife and then later persuaded the boy to remove the knife from the secretary's throat, police officer Barbara Morgan said.

http://www.lvrj.com/news/police-say-teen-faces-kidnapping--assault-charges-after-pulling-knife-on-school-staff-102797709.html
As a teacher in the district and my school is close to this school, it pains me to see this happen, but things like this do happen in schools throughtout the district and the country. I've been hit several times, including being knocked out once. Not at an inner city school, mind you, but a rural school in lily white Marquette County, WI.
Metro is doing the primary investigation because of the seriousness of the charges and the possible involvement of gangs in some way.
It is a shame that this kid did this and probably screwed up the rest of his life for a 1 minute crime spree.

Is Metro Trying To Rig Erik Scott Inquest?

One wonders if Metro is trying to rig the coroner's inquest into Metro's shooting of Erik Scott at the Costco in Summerlin.
Erik Scott was shot on July 10 of this year. There is a lot conflicting information in regards to what happened that day. It appears that there was some kind of disturbance in Costco involving Scott and Costco called 911 to report it. They all saw a gun, which was reported to Metro. Costco started to evacuate the store because of Scott. When Scott left the store, Metro shot him. There is disagreement as to what was said and was saw by witnesses and even the police, including whether the cops touched Scott before the shooting. Apparently, even though Costco has a security system, including video tape, the security system was not working at the time of the shooting and no tape.
Since then, the LVRJ and other media outlets played bits and pieces of the shooting, before and after. How did these media outlets get the tape when 911 tapes have not been released before an inquest? While Metro denies it (I am sure they had their fingers crossed and were smiling when they said this), who else could have released these tapes? The tapes were clear and could not have been taped from police scanner.
Now, the LVRJ runs a hit piece on Erik Scott on July 10th. http://www.lvrj.com/news/darker-details-come-to-light-102608619.html
The hit piece includes allegations of drug use, domestic abuse and other allegations. Part of the information came from the Scott family and other information came from interviews, court records and police documents. Without a doubt this was a complete hit piece by the LVRJ. I also wonder how much information was leaked to the LVRJ by Metro? The fact that this information comes out about 2 weeks before the inquest is also troubling.
I don't know what happened at Costco and I suspect even the police really don't know. The fact that the cops first said that they tapped Scott from the back before the shooting and then changed their story leave me wondering what really happened.
As I have said before, I don't think we will ever know. the inquest will be a joke, even though it will be televised. Then the Scott will settle out of court and the public will never know what really happened.
But it is unsettling to read about all this information just before the inquest and that some of the information was supplied under the table by Metro.

Update: Bucyrus Loan Debacle In Milwaukee

A few months ago, there was a company named Bucyrus who wanted to sell mining equipment to a company in India but the Import-Export Bank said no because it violated President Obama's pledge of a more green environment. Then President rode to Milwaukee on a white stallion to save the day for the democrats and reversed the decision, provided that the company that wanted to buy the equipment, made clean power it's priority.
http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2010/06/update-democrats-play-with-american.html
Well, here is the update from Bloomberg News: Bucyrus International Inc.’s sale of coal-mining equipment for a power plant in India won U.S. Export-Import Bank financial approval, advancing a project that was rejected in June amid environmental concerns.
The government-backed lender agreed to $900 million in loan guarantees for
Reliance Power Ltd. to buy from U.S. companies in building a coal-fired power plant, the bank said yesterday in an e-mail statement. Congress now has 35 days to review the deal before a final vote by the bank.
Bucyrus had lobbied U.S. lawmakers to revive the deal that was initially turned down after groups such as the Sierra Club said funding would undercut the Obama administration’s pledge to limit export financing on projects that might harm the environment. Reliance won preliminary environmental approval in July after giving the bank a pledge to cap the plant’s carbon emissions.
“The bank’s board bowed to political pressure and in so doing wastes public financing to worsen their fossil-fuel binge,”
Doug Norlen, policy director for the San Francisco- based environmental group Pacific Environment, said yesterday in a statement.
The Export-Import Bank provides financing to expand U.S. trade. Bucyrus, based in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, would lose an order for as much as $560 million of electric drag lines and rope shovels to mine coal without the bank’s guarantee, Chief Executive Officer
Tim Sullivan said in an interview June 28.
Bucyrus Equipment
About $400 million of the financing will be used to buy Bucyrus mining equipment, which will help support 1,000 jobs, the bank said in the e-mail. The Ex-Im bank board’s decision was unanimous, according to the statement.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-08-25/bucyrus-india-coal-plant-deal-gets-export-import-bank-financing-approval.html
Somethings to think about: Did Bucyrus lose any money on the deal?
And was this all neccessary? Coal is still going to be mined, Reliance will still build their coal fired electric plant and the Sierra Club is still pissed. And what happens if Reliance breaks their pledge to limit carbon emissions, then what?
This was just a waste of time on everyone's part so that it would appear that Wisconsin Democrats can come to the rescue of Buycrus and look good. You know there will be a commercial coming very soon about this.
But in the end, I am glad that Buycrus will get their money and people will be employed there. I just wish it wasn't political.
Funny, the jsonline never has had a follow up on this.

Whew: Packers Win

The Packer's barely beat the Philly Eaglets today, 27-20. Michael Vick made interesting, but could not convert a quarterback sneak for 1 yard.
Clay Matthews was an animal on defense while the offensive line sucked. Aaron Rogers was average.
But the Packers are 1-0.

Touchdown Or Not?

If you go on the Detroit newspaper web site, the fans of course say he scored. Even if you go to the Chicago papers, you have people saying it was a touchdown.
Very close, I guess they got it right. But if this was a Favre to Driver pass, a Tom Brady to whomever the Patriots have, would they called it the same way as compared to the Detroit Lions? Somehow I suspect they would not.

Harry Reid: The Comedian

How can anyone take Harry Reid seriously.
In his latest television commercial, he is blaming George Bush for the economy. Hey Harry, who was the Senate Majority for the last two years of the Bush administration?
Answer: Harry Reid
So, what was Harry doing those two years while living it up at the Ritz Carlton? Apparently nothing as Harry considers himself blameless.
So when Harry is voted out of office in November, he will have a standing gig somewhere on the Strip, maybe City Center, as a comedian. If you can pry him out of the Ritz Carlton.

Build A Federal Wildlife Visitor Where Hardly Anyone Visits:

From the Daily Outrage of the Washington Examiner: WHAT: The agency spent $6 million in stimulus money to build a visitors center at the remote North Dakota Audubon National Wildlife Refuge, which is visited by fewer than 80 people each day.
WHY IT'S AN OUTRAGE: The costly, "energy-efficient" visitors center keeps bankers' hours, closing at 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. It is closed on weekends and all federal holidays -- the very days when visitors are likely to come. At least it has a portrait of President Obama on the premises.

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/The-Visitors-Center-You-Can_t-Visit-799557-102573194.html
I used to live in that area of North Dakota and been through there and it's a beautiful area.
North Dakota is one of the few states that have been not by the recession and they seem to have more disposable income, so you would think they have the place open on weekends and holidays.

Sherm Fredrick Of The LVRJ Stealing Material?

Sherm Fredrick, of the LVRJ and the founder of all the lawsuits against bloggers for copyright infringement, seems to have stolen from someone and did not properly credit the source:
Just an idea
If the church pastor in Florida who threatened to burn copies of the Quran instead urged parishioners to download a copy of the book and then, on the count of three, delete them, would he still have caused an international firestorm?

http://www.lvrj.com/opinion/it-is-so-good-to-be-around-102720764.html
Well, gee, where did Sherm get this lame joke, as he tells it.
http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2010/09/its-911-in-nyc-let-koran-buringmosque.html
Or where I got the joke: http://www.fromwhereisit.org/?p=8053 ?
Or maybe, somewhere else.
Come on Sherm, if you are going to steal material, credit the source. after all, that is what Righthaven and yourself want others to do.
Pathetic, Mr. Fredricks.

And This Is A Bad Thing?

The White House and a very pathetic liberal blogger named Desert Bacon says if the GOP takes over the Congress, they may shut down the government.
And this is a bad thing?
If it stops reckless spending and other destructive acts the liberals propose, I'd say this is a good thing.
And I am sure the Democrats would do the same if they thought the GOP was too destructive.

Harry Reid Commercials And Cow Dung Go Together

Harry Reid, showing that cow dung and Harry Reid commercials go together, says he saved a bunch of jobs in the dairy industry but forgot to mention some very important information.
From Assemblyman Ed Goedhart (R-Amargosa Valley): As I watched Harry Reid’s ad on ‘saving’ Anderson Dairy and the jobs of 130 employees I felt the need to explain the total ramifications of exempting Las Vegas from the federal milk marketing order referenced in the ad.
I manage the Ponderosa Dairy, Nevada’s largest dairy, which milks over 9,000 cows twice a day. We produce 12 semi-tankers of milk each day, or one every two hours, and directly employ 145 employees and indirectly contribute to the employment of over 1,000 Nevadans. Our economic output for Nevada is over $90 million.
When Sen. Reid carved out an exemption for Anderson Dairy – which, by the way, milks NO cows – he allowed cheaper ‘overbase’ milk – drinking milk produced in excess of government caps - to flow into Nevada from California, Arizona and Utah, which allows Anderson Dairy to pad their profit margin.
That’s a great deal for Anderson Dairy; however, Ponderosa Dairy – an actual production dairy, not a processing-only dairy - now has to truck its milk all the way to California in order to get the full “Class 1” allowable price for drinking milk (as opposed to milk used for making cheese and butter). Then some of our same trucks pick up cheap overbase milk from California and bring it to Anderson Dairy in Las Vegas.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Ponderosa Dairy now has to ship its milk to California, while California ships its cheaper overbase milk to Nevada. We call it the ‘Milk Loop’ – and it eats up over a million gallons of diesel fuel, costing us millions of dollars a year in higher trucking costs. The Ponderosa is only 80 miles from Las Vegas, but now we have to ship our milk 280 miles to southern California.
Because of the special deal Sen. Reid cut for Anderson Dairy – the Milk Money Compact - our business is now at a competitive disadvantage with others in the milk producing businesses in our region. As such, we shelved all expansion plans in Nevada and instead invested over $100 million in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas where we now directly employ hundreds of workers and generate much-needed tax revenue and economic activity which otherwise would have benefited Nevada.
When a rock is thrown into a pond, don’t look at just the splash. Also look at the ripples that extend across the entire pond. In this case, the jobs ‘saved’ at Anderson Dairy were at the expense of thousands of other jobs in Nevada.
Government does not “create jobs.” Government jobs are financed by taxes levied on the backs of private citizens and private businesses. And when government, at the behest of elected officials such as Sen. Reid, picks winners by carving out special exemptions in the law for favored businesses, it has a ripple effect that costs all of us in the form of market inefficiencies and reduced competition.
The government can’t give anything to anybody - including Anderson Dairy - it first doesn’t take away from somebody else. For every winner as a result of Harry Reid’s deal-making, there are a lot more losers.
Sen. Reid can claim that no one can do more for Nevada ‘til the cows come home. But the fact is, whether it’s the Louisiana Purchase, the Cornhusker Kickback or the Milk Money Compact, other people continue to pay for what Sen. Reid does for a chosen few. And it stinks worse than anything you’ll ever smell from the back end of one of my cows.

Here is the Harry reid commercial:

h/t Cranky Hermit

It's Packer Sunday!!!!!

Opening Day, Packer style

Only In Vegas

I was traveling down Boulder Highway by Hwy 95 and saw the Library Girls Strip club. Now, I have always noticed and I say noticed, the strip club, but tonight I saw for the time who the club shared walls with in the strip mall (pardon the pun)
Well, it's the Shiloh Baptist Church.
That could make for some interesting church services/lap dances if they ever operate at the same time.

Titus Lies Again. And Again. And Again.

Dina Titus must have wood in her DNA, they way she lies like Pinocchio. Her nose must be the size of Jamie Far or Jimmy Durante by now.
In her latest commercial, She is called out by the uber liberal, Jon Ralston.

When you lose extremist liberal, Jon Ralston, and this is not the first time Ralston has called her out, you know you are having serious problems. Ralston would love to defend Titus but even Ralston has a conscious, I think.
Somehow Dina Titus was a professor in political science. Is this what she teaches in her classrooms, the art of lying in political advertisements? This woman, when she loses, should never be allowed in a classroom again.

COP's 800th Episode

Tonight, Fox TV, COPs will broadcast it's 800th episode. The show has been on the air for 23 years.
Times have changed in policing from the start of the show to now. New technology, new laws and new ways on how the cops interact with people. Some of it has been good, some of it has been bad.
Some or most of the police officers in the beginning have already retired and I'd be willing many of the criminals, especially those in the beginning are dead, in prison or on probation.
But it still is an entertaining show and I still watch it several times a week, especially the Las Vegas episodes. Even saw my old apartment featured in one segment. That's not good.
So, hopefully, there will be many more episodes of COPs to document history of policing in the U.S.

On 9/11 The Las Vegas Sun Runs An Artice Ripping Firefighters

On 9/11, the anniversary of the day over 340 firefighters died in New York City, the Las Vegas Sun comes out with an article ripping Clark County firefighters.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/sep/11/sisolak-sick-leave-gaming-exposed/
I am not saying firefighters abusing sick leave is not news, but could they have waited a day or two to put it out?
Classless.

Liberace Museum To Close

The Liberace Museum will be closing October 17, 2010 due to financial problems. The museum wants to go on a nationwide tour, ala Titanic and Bodies. From the Katz report from the Las Vegas Sun: One of Las Vegas' jewel attractions, and a significant part of its cultural and entertainment history, is closing.
The Liberace Museum, which has exhibited the jewelry, pianos, garish gowns and other artifacts owned by the great pianist and showman, announced today it will close effective Oct. 17. The museum opened April 15, 1979.
Liberace Foundation Board of Directors Chair Jeffrey Koep informed the staff this morning that all paid positions — full- and part-time — would be eliminated as of closing on that Oct. 17 date, which is a Sunday. A total of 31 employees, including 12 to 14 full-timers, will be let go, Koep said.
"This is a pretty straightforward business decision that's basically been a long time coming," Koep said. "The biggest thing to the board is the human beings affected, that we are going to have to get rid of our employees. ... But also, we recognize what Liberace meant to the history of Las Vegas, and that makes this very difficult and sad for us."

http://www.lasvegassun.com/blogs/kats-report/2010/sep/10/liberace-museum-closing-final-day-operation-longtm/
My guess the first place they will tour will be Milwaukee/West Allis WI.

It's 9/11 In NYC, Let The Koran Buring/Mosque Building Begin

It's 9/11 in New York City, Washington D.C. Pennsylvania and now it's silly season. In the media driven storm of Mosque building and Koran burning. The media and talkers are putting on their white robes as they pontificate how holier than thou they are in saying the the builders and burners have the constitutional right to do their deeds, they shouldn't do the deeds because it may offend someone.
Just to be clear, anything Muslims build near Ground Zero will piss off New Yorkers and conservatives. And you burn or sneeze on the Koran you are going to piss off liberals and extremist Muslims. And the media loves it for the ratings and to parade their holier than thou attitude parading to everyone who listens, how pure as the wind driven snow.
As far as I am concerned, I don't care if Muslims are pissed. When I am allowed to visit Mecca with a Bible in my hand, I really couldn't care what Muslims think, whether they are extremist, moderate or liberal Muslims. Their feelings don't concern me.
The best line I heard lately comes from Elliot, from Where I Sit: I downloaded a copy of the Qur’an to my Kindle
And on 9/11, I’m going to delete it.
http://www.fromwhereisit.org/?p=8053

As far as the Mosque by Ground Zero, let me see it get built before I get my undies in an uproar. If they convince the iron workers to build it, then I probably won't have a problem with it.

So, let the media games begin today. To bad they cannot strike today.

Hopefully, they will find the mother and deal with her as necessary.

North Carolina Cops Want Private Medical Information

From the Newsobserver.com: Sheriffs in North Carolina want access to state computer records identifying anyone with prescriptions for powerful painkillers and other controlled substances.
The state sheriff's association pushed the idea Tuesday, saying the move would help them make drug arrests and curb a growing problem of prescription drug abuse. But patient advocates say opening up people's medicine cabinets to law enforcement would deal a devastating blow to privacy rights.
Allowing sheriffs' offices and other law enforcement officials to use the state's computerized list would vastly widen the circle of people with access to information on prescriptions written for millions of people. As it stands now, doctors and pharmacists are the main users.
Read more: http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/09/08/669723/lists-of-pain-pillpatients-sought.html#ixzz0z6TmBvo7
As a user of pain medication for hip and back problems, I find this offensive. And what about the HIPPA law, where it guarantees privacy to patients?
One one occasion, I have been approached by a Las Vegas cop or undercover operative to buy my pain medication from me and I was pissed and I damned near took on the person and would have beaten the crap out of the person if I had been a person of violence. I wonder where they got the information?
So, where does this end? Do the cops want psychiatric information about people with mental illnesses? Do cops want information about people who are on any kind medication?
The cops do not need to know this information and should not have this information. People have rights, but apparently the cops in North Carolina don't believe in that. Cops need to make case the old fashion way- hard work and leg work. They don't need to be accessing personal health information from a computer and the state should not even have a state wide computer system that has this information.

You may not know it, but there is a minor league football team in Las Vegas. The team is called the Las Vegas Kings. Not sure how minor league they are since the NFL doesn't really have a minor league, with the exception of the European football, which closed a few years ago.
Anyways, they play at Desert Pines High school, 3800 E. Harris, which is just down the street from Child Haven and Family Court. The main intersection if Bonanza and Pecos.

Sounds like a fun time.
Wonder if they could beat UNLV.

Friday err, Saturday High School Football Night

Usually, Friday night is football night in the Valley and within CCSD. However, due to the Jewish holiday, Rosh Hashanah. all extra curricular activities have been canceled and moved to Saturday.
So, if you want to support a local high school football team, the game's are on Saturdays instead of Friday.

Cheap Trick Closes It's Run In Las Vegas

Cheap Trick playing the Sgt. Pepper album is wrapping up it's run at the Paris. It has 5 nights left, with the last date being September 18. The shows start at 7:30. It's a great show and you can get some really good seats and sit very close to some of the best musicians in the history of rock. Further, the Sgt. Pepper Orchestra is excellent and worth the price of admission alone.
So, here are two videos of Cheap Trick- young and old.

So, How Many People Will Reid, Titus And Obama Have To Bribe?

From Cleveland.com: PARMA, Ohio – With less than an hour before President Obama's scheduled speech, 75 seats remained empty in the recreation center at Cuyahoga Community College's Western Campus.
So organizers went around campus and recruited more students to fill the seats.

Student Jennifer Rahal, of Parma Heights, whose class was canceled today, was working on her art work in the coffee shop in the basement of the building when the call went out for more guests.
After dropping off their stuff at a bag check, the newly invited guests cleared security and filed into the gym.

http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2010/09/tri-c_students_recruited_to_fi.html
If Obama cannot even fill the seats at a presumed liberal college, how is Obama going to attract many people in Las Vegas?
Of course, they may hold the rally at City Center, where the limo liberals of Clark County will be.
Wonder if Obama will help Rory No Last Name? Will Obama stay overnight again?
But we do know that while Obama is partying, businesses will be losing money because of him.

New "Church" To Burn Korans

In the gift that keeps on giving, now Fred Phelps and his looney bunch from the Westboro Baptist Church are going to burn Korans on Saturday.
In this case, they probably will as they don't care what people think of them.
Think about it. An extremist Church, Westboro complaining about the extremists of the Muslim religion. Birds of a feather.
Maybe a suicide bomber could attend a service at Westboro, but this is what probably will happen to him after the bomber goes to Muslim heaven:

LVRJ Web Site Down

For at least the 25 minutes, the Las Vegas Review-Journal web site has been down.
Think maybe someone got pissed at them and sabotaged the site? Or maybe they were sued and lost their domain name? Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch.

NFL Opens The 2010-11 Season

Tonight opens up the NFL season with the Minnesota Viqueens taking on The New Orleans Aints.
Even though I am a Favre fan, I think New Orleans will kick the Viqueens butts by about 20.
This season opener maybe the last one that will start time for a couple of years. It looks like there maybe a lock out next year, so enjoy this season and hope for the best.

Is Reid And Obama Trying To Put More Businesses Out Of Business?

Well, it looks like Obama is going to come back to Las Vegas again to campaign for Reid and Titus. And while he is here, he will again close down the airport for the tourist helicopters and planes and other associated businesses. This is the third time he has come here this year and so far the businesses have lost over $1,000,000 and now Reid and Obama want to make them lose more money.
Thanks Harry and Obama for screwing business owners and their employees.
BTW, I love that sign in the background. Honest leadership and open government are oxymoron's to this two goofs.

No Roasting Of Marshmallows At Florida Koran Burning

So, I guess no is going to be roasting marshmallows this weekend when the bozo preacher of 50 was going to burn the Koran. Apparently, instead, he is going to New York to talk with the leader of the Mosque near Ground Zero. Supposedly, he says the Ground Zero Mosque is a no go now.
So, a couple of bozo religious "leaders" are getting their 15 minutes of fame.
Reminds me of the movie "Dragnet" where you had the Cardinal of L.A. and the pornographer in cahoots with each other to prop up both of their businesses.

I'll Take Funny Democrats For 500, Alex

Answer, 219 Democrast who have refused to run commercials praising themselves for their vote for Obama Care.
Umm, Dina and Shelly, why don't you campaign on Obama care?
Silly Democrats. Not proud of Obama Care. Not proud of themselves.

An Honest Democrat?

From The Washington Examiner: On March 16, when confronted by members of the Jefferson Area Tea Party, Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Va., made a startling confession:
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned up here (in Washington) and I didn’t really need to come up here to learn it, is the only way to get Congress to balance the budget is to give them no choice, and the only way to keep them out of the cookie jar is to give them no choice, which is why – whether it’s balanced budget acts or pay as you go legislation or any of that – is the only thing. If you don’t tie our hands, we will keep stealing

Is There Any Bigger A**Hole Athlete Than Reggie Bush?

Reggie Bush- idiot, college killer and pathetic POS.
Reggie Bush is a football player that took hundreds of thousands of dollars in "benefits" while at USC, playing football for the Trojans.
He got caught and USC paid the penalty. A huge penalty. They lost scholarships, they forfeited games, they cannot play in bowl games and the college lost millions of dollars.
Bush's attitude: Screw USC, I just play football.
From ESPN: Losing the Heisman could further tarnish Bush's legacy, although Bush noted, "On the field, play speaks for itself."
"That's for the fans to kind of make their minds up about," he added.
The NFL's 2010 regular season kicks off on Thursday night when the Saints host the
Minnesota Vikings.
With the rematch of last season's NFC championship game looming, Bush said he hasn't even thought about whether he'd actually return the trophy if officially stripped of the award.
"Here we are the day before the biggest game of the new season and that's where my focus is," Bush said. "It's a big game. We're playing the Minnesota Vikings. It's going to be crazy. So that's where my focus is now. I've said all that I want to say and everything else has to play itself out. ... It's an unfortunate situation for everybody, including the kids at USC."

http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/ncf/news/story?id=5547036
No apology. No, "hey, I really screwed up". What a POS.
If I were USC, I would sue him for millions that they have lost because of him. If I were fans and ticket holders of USC, I would sue his butt as well. If anything, the loss of bowl games they could gone to and the loss in value of the tickets. (for the ticket scalpers, I suppose)
So, is there a worse piece of crap in sports today? In the history of sports? I don't think so.

Some Knucklehead Wants To Burn A Koran, So What?

Some knucklehead preacher in Florida says he is going to burn some Korans on 9/11 and the world is acting like this the thing that starts WWIII.
First, this person has about 50 members in his church. 50 people. There are more people in a Salvation Army church service than this Church.
All this guy is doing is getting his 15 minutes of fame and the news media are all shrieking about, thus enabling him.
If the media and government officials never got involved, who would have known?
And of course, we have the over reaction. It's going to upset the Taliban and Muslim extremists. They are going to kill troops. So what. They're pissed off anyways. They have always been pissed off and they will always be pissed off. That's how they get money, recognition and members They are like Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. Those two are always pissed off because it gets them money, recognition and followers.
As far as killing the troops, the Muslims are killing the troops now. You mean they may kill more troops? As opposed to now?
And of course, when was the last time people got pissed when someone burned a Bible? Did the White House get involved? Did a general get involved? Did the Vatican even get involved? When the Family Guy insults Christianity on a regular basis, is there anybody in government involved complaining about that? Of course not, free speech. And of course, no Christian went out and killed people for it.
It was amusing listening to Heidi Harris and Alan Stock, two Las Vegas right wing talkers, try to take the high road in this matter. Saint's Heidi and Alan were doing their level best to take the upside in this, like they think Muslims are going to go after them if they don't act like saints.
So, let the bozo burn the Koran and let the Muslims be pissed- it doesn't matter- it's in their DNA to be pissed. To the media, just don't show the event and no one will know. But it's ratings, baby.
I'll be more sympathetic to Muslims and the Koran when they stand up for the Bible next time the Bible is burned or denigrated. Other than that, I couldn't are less.

Charter School Teacher Starts Fire While At School

As a special education teacher,w e are supposed to teach our students life skills. today, at a charter school within the CCSD, a special education teacher set fire to the copy room, on purpose.
From the Las Vegas Sun: An elementary school teacher was arrested Wednesday after authorities say she intentionally started a fire in the copier room at the school....
Lillian Marino, 47, a special education teacher, is facing two counts of felony arson in connection with the incident. Authorities haven't determined her motive for allegedly starting the fire.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/sep/08/teacher-accused-starting-fire-school-copier-room/
A commentator in the Sun article says this:
don't be quick to judge. Dedicated teacher friend who was disturbed that administration was not present in afternoons (principal took entire staff to 2-3 hr lunches daily..worried about safety of school if something tragic happened with no one in office for the afternoon)...pulled fire alarm to bring attention to the problem. She spent a year complaining to school board ect. prior to taking extreme action. No good deed goes unpunished...she is banned from teaching in the county.
This is not the first time the school has been in the news, from KTNV last year:A principal at a local charter school has been placed on leave in just the second week of school.
Parents say it's a revolving door and they came to Action News for help. Some parents say it's symbolic of the complete disarray at 100 Academy of Excellence. The charter school executive slammed the door in the parents face....

The executive for Imagine Charter Schools Vickie Frazier Williams, won't answer parents questions and when Action News walked in ourselves she wouldn't answer ours.
http://www.ktnv.com/global/story.asp?s=11117204
Sounds like there are some very serious issues with this charter school and I hope either CCSD or the state will do some close investigation of this school.
It also seems that there should be other charges, like child endangerment.
And no, this was not a life lesson to be learned, unless it is a civics course and when you study the criminal justice system.

Could It Be?

Could it be that I have the number 1 conservative blog in Nevada that is independent of any media like radio, newspaper or TV?
Not that I care and I have seen only 2 liberal independent blogs ahead of me and they have been at it for a long time.
Hell, I am ahead of some conservative talk show hosts in the state and their web sites.
Well, I guess, like they say, you have lies, damn lies and statistics.
But I don't care, I just do this for fun.
But crap, why can't we have some decent conservative politicians in the State to talk about? It's tough when you have Jim Gibbons, John Ensign and Sharron Angle.
But when you have Harry Reid and Dina Titus, they are gifts that keep on giving for a conservative blogger.
Of course, we do have Joe Heck, who is a great politician and human being.
But I digress. I have some met friends on both sides of the aisle, like James and the visitor from Mountain View, CA. who comes by every day.
And it is a lot of fun.
Number 1 rule, never take one's self seriously, otherwise you end up like Paris Hilton. (not sure who the male version would be, maybe Perez Hilton?)

Why Isn't Dina Titus Defending Her Record?

I just saw Dina Titus's latest pathetic commercial where she attempts to portray Joe Heck as a monster.
A question for Dina Titus: Why don't you run on your record? I mean, the last time your tried to do that, you flat out lied about your record- lying about voting against the bank bailout- you were not even in Congress when they voted on it.
Of course, Titus, your record is pathetic, your resume is that of a spineless jellyfish and you still have not had a real job in your life. You have been sheltered all your life.
Of course, you have to lie about your opponent because you cannot say anything positive about yourself.
Seek some therapy.

Rehab: Party At The Hard Rock: Day 1

Tonight is the season premiere of Rehab: Party At The Hard Rock and all I can say is that there are some jackasses who work there along with the boobies.
Considering they had a death there a few weeks ago, the show seems kind of harsh.
It's not a pleasant show and reflects little on Las Vegas and the pool scene.
And I am sure an employment wrongful injury/death lawyers and the FCC are watching very closely.

New Act At The Monte Carlo

Jabbawockeez is a dance troupe that will be coming to the Monte Carlo Casino.
From The Las Vegas Sun: Hip-hop dance goes mainstream as Strip entertainment starting Oct. 7 when the all-male modern-dance crew Jabbawockeez, disguised by white masks and gloves, start a headline run at the Monte Carlo after recent sold-out dates at MGM Grand.
MGM Resorts International this morning confirmed the rumors that the hip-hop heroes, who won Season 1 of America's Best Dance Crew, have signed contracts for 9:30 p.m. performances of their MÜS.I.C. on Tuesdays through Saturdays

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/sep/07/jabbawockeez-sign-headline-contract-monte-carlo/
Hmm, a hip hop dance group at the Monte Carlo. I don't see it, at least not for the long term. They are going to have to perform at least 5 days a week for an extended amount of time. They will have to fill the place, not only on weekends, but during the week as well. That's tough to do, for any act and especially a dance group. They are not going to attract the middle age crowd and the younger crowd does not make it in to Vegas until the weekend. I hope they make it, but we will see.
