This Was Supposed To Go?

Image
Umm, I Want It To Go
From the Las Vegas Sun:
A van crashed through the front entrance of a KFC on Friday after colliding with a pickup truck outside the fast-food restaurant.
Metro Police received reports of the crash about 3:10 p.m. at the KFC in the 2300 block of Windmill Lane, near Eastern Avenue.
The van was still inside the building, police said. A customer inside the KFC suffered minor injuries but was not transported to a hospital. No one else was hurt.

For some reason, many drivers mistake buildings for the road in Las Vegas.  However, in  this case, no one was hurt

Time For Impeachment?

From Fox News:
Tea Party leaders refused to accept an apology from the IRS Friday in which the agency acknowledged that it inappropriately flagged conservative groups for additional review during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status.
Jenny Beth Martin, national coordinator for Tea Party Patriots, said she wants to see resignations over what she called the "disturbing, illegal and outrageous abuse of government power."
Republican lawmakers also seized on the acknowledgment, after having complained about the suspected harassment more than a year ago. Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell called for a "government-wide review" to assure "these thuggish practices" are not in use elsewhere. House Republican Leader Eric Cantor later said the House would investigate.
Reaction was swift and harsh after Lois Lerner, who heads the IRS division that oversees tax-exempt groups, acknowledged the issue at a conference Friday sponsored by the American Bar Association.
She confirmed that organizations were singled out because they included the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their applications for tax-exempt status.
In some cases, groups were asked for their list of donors, she said.
"That was wrong. That was absolutely incorrect, it was insensitive and it was inappropriate," Lerner said. "The IRS would like to apologize for that."

So, they announce it on a Friday, at the end of the work day.  That's how government and businesses break bad news.
They say no one had their tax exempt taken away but they didn't say anything about how many groups didn't have their tax exempt status approved.
And how many areas of the country has this happened?  Just Cincinnati?  I doubt it.
And what happened to the employees?  Did they get fired?  Or did they transfer to other offices?

Another Demorat Tax

From the LVRJ: Senate Majority Leader Mo Denis defended his party’s bill Thursday to levy an 8 percent tax movie tickets at the same time another Democratic bill would give $35 million in tax breaks to companies that make movies in Nevada.
But Denis, D-Las Vegas, admitted there is a possibility that the movie admission tax could be excised from the Nevada Entertainment and Admission Tax bill when it is heard Tuesday in a hearing before the Assembly and Senate taxation committees.
“I don’t know if it ultimately will be in the bill or not,” said Denis in an interview. “If you are going to do good tax policy, you have to put everything in and then figure it out. You aren’t going to start by exempting people out. People who have been hit the hardest (over the five-year recession) aren’t going to movies.”
Yet some newspaper readers and even legislators have ridiculed the idea of taxing Nevadans who attend movies at the same time lawmakers are talking about giving tax breaks to wealthy movie companies. There is a perception that the movie admission tax revenue would pay for movie company tax breaks since the revenue would go to the state general fund and the incentives would come from the same fund.
Assembly Minority Leader Pat Hickey, R-Reno, questioned including movie admissions in Assembly Bill 498 soon after it was introduced Wednesday by Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick, D-North Las Vegas. Denis said he and other Senate Democrats had worked on the Kirkpatrick bill.
Gov. Brian Sandoval also came out quickly in opposition to the bill.  http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/nevada-legislature/nevada-senate-majority-leader-defends-bill-enact-movie-ticket-tax
What haven't the Demorats want to tax this legislative secession?  Not too much, from what I can gather.

Seriously? Poll Shows 1000 Americans Are Idiots.

Kenseth Wins Most Of His Appeals

NASCAR got most of it right.
From ESPN: A NASCAR appeals panel sided with Joe Gibbs Racing on Wednesday and eased some of the penalties imposed for having an illegal part in Matt Kenseth's race-winning engine at Kansas last month.
NASCAR punished JGR after discovering during a post-race inspection that one of eight connecting rods in the engine at the April 21 race did not meet the minimum weight requirement. The part was too light by 3 grams, less than the weight of an envelope.
JGR did not dispute the part was illegal, but argued the penalties were too severe because it leases its engines from Toyota Racing Development and is not permitted to touch anything inside of them. Toyota accepted responsibility and insisted one light rod did not give Kenseth a performance advantage.
The three-member National Stock Car Racing Appeals Panel agreed and dramatically reduced almost every penalty.
The points deducted from Kenseth were reduced from 50 to 12, which moves him from 11th in the standings to fourth. The panel also reinstated the three bonus points he earned for the victory for seeding in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.
The panel also reduced crew chief Jason Ratcliff's suspension from six races to one race, and eliminated the six-race suspension for owner Joe Gibbs. It let stand Ratcliff's $200,000 fine. The only action the panel took was increasing Toyota's penalty from a five-point fine to seven points.
"Glad to have today behind us so we can get our focus back on racing. I respect NASCAR and the appeals process, I feel like they got it right," Kenseth posted on Twitter.
Gibbs said he was done with the process and would not appeal anything further.
"Right now, we just want to get back to racing," the team owner said.  http://espn.go.com/racing/story/_/id/9255440/nascar-reduces-penalties-matt-kenseth-joe-gibbs-racing
Jason Ratcliff still got screwed with his fine and hopefully Toyota will pay his fine and any other money lost by Kenseth and Joe Gibbs racing.

School Nurse IN CCSD Should Be In Big Trouble

A 12 year old boy died and his mother is being charged in his death, but why not the school nurse that observed the boy?
From the LVRJ: She didn’t kill her son, police said, but she let him die.
The stepmother of a 12-year-old boy who died last year has been charged with murder after police said she ignored his symptoms of appendicitis for a week.
Kalinda Mercado, 41, was charged last month in the Feb. 4, 2012, death of stepson Emmanuel Mercado.
Emmanuel first showed signs of illness on Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, when he vomited in the courtyard at Johnson Junior High School.
A school nurse notified Mercado, but she refused to pick him up from school and Emmanuel took the bus home, police said. Police said Emmanuel’s condition worsened over the weekend, but he wasn’t taken to a doctor.
Emmanuel returned to school on Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, and complained again of severe stomach pain. The school nurse, suspecting the boy might be suffering from appendicitis, called Mercado. The stepmother suspected Emmanuel was “only trying to avoid going to class,” according to the police report.
“It was relayed to Mrs. Mercado that he may be able to fake stomach pain, but not the fever,” the report said. The nurse told Mercado she suspected appendicitis and Emmanuel immediately needed a doctor.
Mercado took the boy from school that morning, but did not take him to a doctor, police said. She later called the nurse and claimed she called a doctor, who advised Emmanuel take a Tylenol for the fever. Emmanuel had a bowel movement and was feeling better, Mercado told the nurse.
But the boy’s condition worsened throughout the week. He vomited after eating dinner Wednesday night, but was only given Alka-Seltzer, police said.
On Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, Emmanuel went to school and immediately contacted the nurse. He complained of leg pain. A nurse told police the boy was dehydrated, pale, could barely walk and his finger tips were blue.
Mercado called Desert Valley Pediatrics and scheduled an appointment for 3:45 p.m., despite earlier appointments being available, police said. Emmanuel was taken home later that morning.
Emmanuel never made it to the doctor. He collapsed while being taken to the family car about 3 p.m. and went into cardiac arrest. Before he collapsed, the boy could not walk or see, police said.  http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/crime-courts/las-vegas-stepmother-charged-murder-after-boy-died-appendicitis
The school nurse or First Aide Assistant who saw the boy on several occasions should have contacted Child Protective Services, at the minimum because of the medical neglect.  They are required to report any suspected child abuse or neglect and clearly, this is a case of neglect and the CCSD nurse should be investigated for failing to report the neglect.

Psst CBS Radio News: There Was A Big Story Today

I listened to CBS radio 3 times this afternoon on KXNT 840 Las Vegas today.

Remeber The Obama Stimulus?

From the Havre Daily News: A Chippewa Cree tribal leader, a former state lawmaker and three others used a fake billing system and a shell company to pocket hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal stimulus aid meant for the Montana tribe, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.
The Chippewa Cree Tribe received $33 million in federal funding between 2009 and 2010 for construction of a $361 million pipeline to supply fresh drinking water for the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation and surrounding counties in northern Montana. Most of that $33 million came from the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment act, also known as the stimulus.
The CEO of the tribal company that headed the pipeline project, Chippewa Cree Construction Corp., awarded contracts and authorized cash transfers in a complex web of transactions to embezzle and launder the money, according to the indictment unsealed Tuesday.
The cash ended up in the bank accounts of intermediaries and in a tribal rodeo account controlled by tribal council member John Chance Houle.
More than $100,000 was used to start a Billings pipe supply company owned by the construction company's CEO and contracting officer, former Rep. Tony Belcourt. His new company, MT Waterworks, was later awarded a $633,000 stimulus contract to supply the water pipeline project.
Another $62,000 was used to buy a house in Box Elder in the name of Belcourt's wife, Hailey Lee Belcourt.
It is unclear what happened to the rest of the money after it was parked in the rodeo account, the account of a consulting firm and in the personal account of the woman who ran the consulting firm.
Federal prosecutors are seeking the return of $311,000, the real estate that was purchased and ownership of MT Waterworks.  http://www.havredailynews.com/news/5accusedofdivertingstimulusmoneyfromrockyboy.html
A bunch of Obama supporters decided to rip off the Obama Stimulus program, where there was little oversight, until the money was spent.

Scary: Pitcher Hit By batted Ball

Another reason not to be a pitcher

Another Reason Why Taxes Are So High

From the Las Vegas Sun:
A Las Vegas man has been sentenced to three to 10 years behind bars after prosecutors say he bilked Medicaid out of about $2 million and spent more than $100,000 of it at bars and clubs.
Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto announced the sentence against 34-year-old Ini Odong on Tuesday.
A jury found Odong guilty of charges including submitting false Medicaid claims, theft, and intentionally failing to maintain adequate records.
Investigators say Odong used another person's name to establish a company called Golden Heart Medical Supply, and billed Medicaid on behalf of non-existent clients.
Prosecutors say Odong withdrew about $300,000 in cash and spent more than $100,000 at bars and clubs using company account cards.

And liberals say there is no waste or fraud in Medicaid and we can't reduce their budget.  Yeah right.!

Good News? Sanford Wins

From the AP: Four years after scandal derailed his political career, ex-Republican Gov. Mark Sanford once again holds a South Carolina political office, winning back his old congressional seat Tuesday after a race in which he battled his past and an opponent who outdid him in fundraising.
Sanford's resurrection was completed when he defeated Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch, the sister of political satirist Stephen Colbert, in a district that hasn't elected a Democratic congressman in more than three decades.
"Some guy came up to me the other day and said you look a lot like Lazarus," Sanford told a crowd of more than 100 cheering supporters at his victory celebration, referring to the man who, according to the Bible, Christ raised from the dead.
With all precincts reporting, Sanford had about 54 percent of the vote.  http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_1ST_DISTRICT_SOUTH_CAROLINA?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2013-05-07-20-34-22
About a week ago, Colbert Busch had about a 10 point lead, so it will be interesting to see why he surged so much in such a short time.
If the Democrat would have won, they would say the country repudiated the Tea Party and supported Obama.
So, since the GOP won, it means the country has repudiated Obama and the Tea Party lives on.

Stupid Comment Of The Day

From the LVRJ: All Nevada businesses that offer live entertainment – including brothels, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the massive Electric Daisy Carnival and Burning Man – would have to pay an 8 percent tax under a bill to be introduced Wednesday.
Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick, D-North Las Vegas, said Monday her live entertainment tax bill is  nearly completed and that it will cover “everybody,” ending exemptions for specific businesses and taxing some, like brothels, that were previously ignored.
Asked specifically if the tax would include Burning Man, the speedway and even brothels, she repeated “everybody.”  http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/nevada-legislature/nevada-lawmakers-want-tax-fun-sex-and-fast-times
What a shock, another democrat wants to raise taxes.
Now for the stupid quote from Ruben Kihuen, D-Las Vegas: “We want to make sure everyone is contributing,” Kihuen said. “They should pay something. Constituents of ours are making them profitable.”
Oh the horrors if a business is profitable.
Typical buffoon Democrat.

Update: 3 Brothers Arrested In Triple Kidnapping Case

From the Cleveland Plain Dealer:
Three longtime missing women, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, have been found alive, apparently kidnapped and held for years as prisoners inside a house on Cleveland's near West Side.
Berry called police Monday afternoon and frantically told a dispatcher that she was alive and free after being kidnapped 10 years ago and held captive in a house on Seymour Avenue.
"We've confirmed it's them," a Cleveland detective said. "They are alive and safe." Police have scheduled a news conference for 9 a.m. today....
Police arrested three brothers, ages 50, 52 and 54. Police did not release names.
But neighbors said one of them is the owner of the house, Ariel Castro, 52, a Cleveland school bus driver until last November who had lived in the two-story house since 1992. Records show he was arrested for domestic violence in 1993, but a grand jury declined to indict him.
Police were searching the house and yard Monday night and into this morning.
Berry was the first to get out of the house, escaping through a broken door. A child came out behind her. Police then came and rescued the other two women, who were taken to the hospital. It wasn't immediately known who the child was.
http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2013/05/tv_station_reports_berry_dejes.html#incart_river
My guess is that the brothers had constant watch over the girls, threaten to kill girls if one of them escaped and they got one of them pregnant 6-7 years ago.
Very sick.

Obama Lies, People Died

Time for impeachment yet?  Criminal charges in 2016
From Stephen Hayes of the Weekly Standard:
A top U.S. diplomat will testify Wednesday that as fighting raged in Benghazi, Libya, in the early morning hours of September 12, 2012, military officials in the region told a second rescue team preparing to deploy from Tripoli to Benghazi not to make the trip.
In an interview with the House Oversight and Reform Committee last month, Greg Hicks, deputy chief of mission at the U.S. embassy in Libya during the attacks on U.S. facilities in Benghazi, recalled his conversations with Libyan government officials and U.S. military leaders as he tried to get support to U.S. diplomatic and intelligence officials under attack in Benghazi. Hicks says he received a call from the Prime Minister of Libya shortly after 3am informing him that Ambassador Chris Stevens had been killed. Hicks became the top US diplomat in Libya after Stevens died.
In the hours that followed, Hicks says, the Libyan military agreed to fly a C-130 from Tripoli to Benghazi in the early morning hours of September 12 – a flight that was to include a second team of Special Operations soldiers – dispatched from the Libyan capital to join a team sent earlier to Benghazi. But as those reinforcements were leaving for the flight, they were told to stand down. Hicks received the news in an early morning phone call from a top military commander in the region.
“So Lieutenant Colonel Gibson, who is the SOCAFRICA commander, his team, you know, they were on their way to the vehicles to go to the airport to get on the C‑130 when he got a phone call from SOCAFRICA which said, ‘you can't go now, you don't have authority to go now,’’ Hicks recalled. “And so they missed the flight.”
Pushed to clarify whether they second rescue missed flight because they were told not to take it, Hicks responded: “They were told not to board the flight, so they missed it.”  http://www.weeklystandard.com/author/stephen-f.-hayes
And who in the Obama administration for telling the crew not to go?  Who is the ultimate authority in a presidential administration?  Why it's Obama.
When Obama goes to the other side, I hope he goes through the hell like he put the ambassador and SEALS through.

New Poll Questions Finally Up

Coming up with poll questions is a lot harder than I thought.
Well, today, I put up 3 new questions:
1.  Is the Boston Marathon bombing media coverage overblown.\
2.  Should you be forced to pay an Internet sales tax?
3.  Would you pay $25 to visit the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York City or is that too expensive?
Thanks for taking the poll.

The LVRJ Changes Commenting Policy

About a year ago, the LVRJ changed their policy regarding commenting on their stories and editorials.  They made people who wanted to comment had to sign up for Facebook and many people obviously rebelled.
Well, now recently, the Las Vegas Review Journal has quietly changed their commenting policy again.  Now, they have turned to Disqus and allows people who have registered at Google, Yahoo, Facebook and a couple other sites.
Apparently relying on Facebook wasn't working out for them and I have a feeling other newspapers who rely on Facebook only will find out the same thing.

Wow, 3 Kidnapped Women Found 10 Years After Being Kidnapped

This will be big news for the few weeks.
From the Cleveland Plain Dealer: Long-missing Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight have been found alive.
Berry called police Monday afternoon and frantically told a dispatcher that she was alive and free after being kidnapped 10 years ago and held captive in a house on Seymour Avenue on the city's West Side. DeJesus was with her.
A third woman, Michelle Knight, who has been missing since 2002, was also found at the house.
"We've confirmed it's them," a detective said. "They are alive and safe."
Berry, now 27, DeJesus, 23, and Knight, 32, were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center. The FBI and police will interview the women when they are discharged, the detective said.
Phyillis Marino, spokeswoman for MetroHealth, said three women will not be making a statement until 9:30 p.m.
Police arrested the owner of the house, Ariel Castro, 52, who had lived in the house since 1992. Records show he was arrested for domestic  violence in 1993, but a grand jury declined to indict him.
Neighbors on Seymour said a man was arrested and three women came out of the home.
Berry disappeared at about 7:40 p.m. April 21, 2003, a day before her 17th birthday. She was last seen leaving her job at a Burger King at West 110th Street and Lorain Avenue.
Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson released a statement this evening expressing gratitude that the three women were found alive.
"We have many unanswered questions regarding this case and the investigation will be ongoing," Jackson wrote.

http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2013/05/tv_station_reports_berry_dejes.html
Yeah, there are going to be a lot of questions asked and questions that need to be answered, like why they never escaped?

Would You Pay $25 To See 9/11 Memorial?

From Firehouse.com: Faced with hefty operating costs, the foundation building the 9/11 museum at the World Trade Center has decided to charge an admission fee of $20 to $25 when the site opens next year.
The exact cost of the mandatory fee has not yet been decided.
Entry to the memorial plaza with its twin reflecting pools will still be free.
The decision to charge for the underground museum housing relics of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks has been greeted with dismay by some relatives of 9/11 victims.
"People are coming to pay their respects and for different reasons," said Janice Testa of Valley Stream, whose firefighter brother Henry Miller Jr. died at the twin towers. "It shouldn't be a place where you go and see works of art. It should more be like a memorial place like a church that there's no entry fee."....
With the cost of operating the memorial and museum projected to be $60 million a year, the memorial foundation voted at its board meeting last week to charge a mandatory admission fee for the museum.
"This is something that is going to be important and is going to be worth the expenditure," Joseph Daniels, president of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, said Saturday.
Daniels said the museum will be free during certain hours every week and will offer student and senior discounts.
Foundation officials had considered an optional donation but rejected the idea.
"We decided that it's more fiscally prudent to have a straight ticket charge," Daniels said.  http://www.firehouse.com/news/10937372/officials-to-charge-steep-fee-for-9-11-museum-entry
Would a family of 4 pay $100 to get in?  I doubt it, though some would.
But does it really cost $60,000,000 to operate a year?  I doubt that to.
If it is going to cost so much to operate and yet charge so much to get in, this is not museum is not going to work out well.
Maybe they need to get some corporate sponsors, if they haven't done so already.

This What Nevada Should Do

30 or more years on death row is absurd.  Nevada ought to do what Florida has done.
From Fox News: While other states move to abolish capital punishment, Florida lawmakers are taking an entirely different approach -- trying to speed up executions for death row inmates.
The Republican-controlled legislature has sent a bill to Gov. Rick Scott that, if signed, would require the governor to sign execution warrants 30 days after the state Supreme Court reviews cases. It would require the state to execute a prisoner within 180 days of a warrant being signed.
The legislation also sets new deadlines for death row appeals.....
Supporters of the Florida legislation claimed their bill was aimed at improving -- rather than abolishing -- a broken system. They argue it puts an end to condemned prisoners sitting for years on death row -- often through what they consider unnecessary delays in the so-called “post conviction” process.
Republican state Sen. Joe Negron, the bill's sponsor, on Monday called that situation a “mockery” of the criminal justice system.
“We believe in due process,” Negron told FoxNews.com. “But this is about cases in which there is no allegation of innocence and a succession of motion after motion.”
Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/05/06/florida-tries-to-speed-up-executions-as-maryland-other-states-repeal-death/#ixzz2SZ48td6N
Listen up Nevada.  Right now, we don't have a death penalty, just a bunch of prisoners with the labels of death row inmates.
And seriously, no one in Carson City cares.

Damn, I'm On You Tube

I'm the one breaking up the fight.

I Give Them 3 months Before They Are All Dead

From the Pahrump Valley Times: A hand-picked group of 32 desert tortoises gave up life in captivity Wednesday to try their luck in the desert between Las Vegas and Pahrump.
But they won’t have to go it alone.
The federally protected reptiles were sent out into the world with radio transmitters glued to their shells so researchers can check in on them regularly.
And that wasn’t the only precious cargo the tortoises took with them.
Wednesday’s group of recent parolees included a number of carefully screened females that are either carrying eggs or about to produce some.
The release was part of continuing efforts to study the species and bolster its numbers in the wild.
This was one of the first batches of tortoises to be set free at the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s newest so-called “translocation site”: a vast swath of creosote bushes and Joshua trees along the western slope of the Spring Mountains, between Trout Canyon Road and Lovell Canyon Road.
The animals came from the Desert Tortoise Conservation Center at the southern edge of the Las Vegas Valley.
“Most of them are probably former pets,” said Roy Averill-Murray, desert tortoise recovery coordinator for the Fish and Wildlife Service in Nevada and California.  http://pvtimes.com/news/32-desert-tortoises-released-near-trout-canyon/comment-page-1/#comment-36924
Since these are former pets, pets who used to be fed their food and you put them out into the wild with the coyotes, ravens and other predators, plus you have the federal government involved, these tortoises won't last much more than 3 months in the wild, but more than likely, 3 weeks.

Somebody's Smoking Crack

From Philly.com:
It's no fluke, but maybe the end of an error in American media:
The Rush Limbaugh Program is considering ending its affiliation agreement with Cumulus Media at the end of this year, a move that would bring about one of the biggest shakeups in talk radio history, a source close to the show tells POLITICO....
Indeed, Limbaugh's fall here is so epic that he may be taking down the entire industry; many advertisers have been adverse now to running their spots on any kind of talk show (which is unfortunate, and is unfair to decent conservatives who -- unlike Limbaugh -- wouldn't dream of calling someone a "slut" because they disagreed with her). The irony is that Limbaugh could avoided a lot of this with a sincere apology, but just like in most Greek tragedies, hubris is always the greatest of the tragic flaws.
Also, the fact that stations even stick with Limbaugh at this point reminds me a lot of those GOP and pseudo-Democrats sticking with the NRA on background checks, and now paying the price in diminished popularlity. I guess some folks never learn...until it's too late.  http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/attytood/Rush-Limbaughs-world-is-imploding-.html
This piece was written by some guy named Will Bunch.
I guess being the number 1 rated radio show in the country and in most cities apparently means epic failure in the crack addled mind of Will Bunch, if that is his real name.
And I suppose Bunch thinks Obama has been a smashing success.
But when you are a jealous writer who wants headlines, you write things like this.
And this comes from someone who doesn't even listen to Limbaugh.

Members Of White House Media Run By Obama
From Yahoo News: “Permission structure” wasn’t the oddest thing to come out of President Barack Obama's mouth this week. That honor goes to Obama’s assurance that NBA veteran Jason Collins, having come out as gay, “can bang with Shaq,” which had West Wing aides wincing. Still, the jokes flew. Is that "structure" like having a safe word? Isn't it better to have a forgiveness structure?
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/obama-pursues-permission-structure-politics-second-term-184548518.html
Shaq or Shaquille O'Neal retired several years ago, so Collins ain't going to banging with Shaq anytime soon, unless of course they  have a get together.  So, Obama got it wrong on several fronts.
Can you imagine if George W. Bush said anything like this- it would have been front page news and leading the news reports.
But because it's Obama, well, the King of Dolts get's a pass.

Cool

From the New York Daily News:
A New Hampshire auction house will soon accept bids on space and aviation artifacts, including an electrocardiogram of Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong’s heartbeat taken when he first set foot on the moon.
Amherst-based RR Auction will take bids on the EKG, which registered a normal heartbeat, and other artifacts during an online auction from May 16 through May 23.
Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/neil-armstrong-ekg-moon-landing-auctioned-article-1.1335677#ixzz2SUDfPl6l
Of course, there are doubters of the man on the moon story who will say the reason the EKG is normal is because it was done in a studio.
Not me, mind you, I believe in the man on the moon.

Gee, Last Year It Was Education

Another stupid Las Vegas Sun editorial: As the Sacramento Bee has diligently reported in a series of troubling articles, the state-run Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital in Las Vegas discharged nearly 1,500 patients to the Greyhound bus station over the past five years — with one-way tickets out of state. The patients were sent with some snacks and a few days of medicine.....

Only 1 case was substantiated as being abusive.
Over the years, the state has been willing to push patients around, but that’s not dealing with the problem. Nevada needs to change the way it runs its mental health system, and it needs people, starting with the governor, to aggressively push for the change. As we said last week, Nevada is better than this.
Ok, change what?
How?
Where?
When?
Last year, the Sun said the same thing about education but never said what, where or how it should change.
The crack addled minds of the Sun editorial board and Brian Greenspun just are about the dumbest people on the face of the Earth.

Another Sick Liberal Mind

From The Mail Online:
A University of Wyoming student targeted by an anonymous Facebook posting that included a threat of sexual violence had posted the item herself, police said.
The university in Laramie, Wyoming announced on Tuesday that campus police cited Meg Lanker-Simons for misdemeanor interference with a police investigation by giving false statements.
The posting that threatened Lanker-Simons occurred on a Facebook forum for UW students, leading to an outcry and an investigation by UW police because it was directed at a student.
The Facebook page, which is not officially affiliated with the university, was taken down and a student-led demonstration against sexual violence was held.
UW police say they found what they called 'substantial evidence' verifying that the post came from the computer belonging to Lanker-Simons.
The Facebook post came to light last week when people including Pamela Kandt, co-convener of the Episcopal Women's Caucus and a Casper activist, complained to the university and demanded action.
Besides the threat of sexual assault, the posting was written to make it appear as if its author was a conservative Republican.
Kandt came to Lanker-Simons' defense Tuesday.
'I will tell you, I believe Meg is innocent of this outrage,' Kandt told the Laramie Boomerang, adding she believes the citation issued by police is a 'classic case of blaming the victim.'
'I mean, my God, who would do this to herself?' she added.

Why would she do it to herself?  To gain attention for the fat bitch, herself.  And to smear conservatives.  That's why.
Just another sick liberal mind, who just made a mockery of rape.

Now, This Is A Wave

ESPN is crowing about a surfer riding a 61 foot wave.  Impressive but not as impressive as this:

Referee Killed By Punk Soccer Player

As a former referee and umpire, this makes me angry.
From the LVRJ: A Utah soccer referee who was critically injured and in a coma after being punched by a teenage player during a game died Saturday night, police said.
Ricardo Portillo, 46, of Salt Lake City passed away at the hospital, where he was being treated following an assault during a soccer game last weekend, Unified police spokesman Justin Hoyal said.
Police have accused a 17-year-old player in a recreational soccer league of punching Portillo after the man called a foul on him and issued him a yellow card.
“The suspect was close to Portillo and punched him once in the face as a result of the call,” Hoyal said in a press release.
The teen has been booked into juvenile detention on suspicion of aggravated assault.
Hoyal said authorities will consider additional charges since Portillo has died.
He said an autopsy is planned.
Portillo suffered swelling in his brain and had been listed in critical condition, Dr. Shawn Smith said Thursday at the Intermountain Medical Center in the Salt Lake City suburb of Murray.  http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/nevada-and-west/police-utah-soccer-referee-punched-player-dies
Hopefully the thug that did this gets charged with 1st degree murder and spends the rest of his life in prison.

Almost As Fast As Superman

From McClatchy: A lightning-quick experimental aircraft made history when it sped more than 3,000 mph above the Pacific Ocean in a test flight, reigniting decades-long efforts to develop a vehicle that could travel faster than a speeding bullet.
The unmanned X-51A WaveRider, which resembles a shark-nosed missile, was launched midair Wednesday off the coast near Point Mugu. It sped westward for 240 seconds, reaching Mach 5.1, or more than five times the speed of sound, before plunging into the ocean as planned.
The X-51A, built and tested in Southern California, was powered by an air-breathing engine that has virtually no moving parts. It flew for longer than any other aircraft of its kind and traveled more than 264 miles in little more than six minutes.
A passenger aircraft traveling at that speed could easily fly from Los Angeles to New York in less than an hour.
"It was a full mission success," Charlie Brink, X-51A program manager for the Air Force Research Laboratory Aerospace Systems Directorate, said in a statement."I believe all we have learned from the X-51A WaveRider will serve as the bedrock for future hypersonics research and ultimately the practical application of hypersonic flight."
While supersonic flight refers to velocity that exceeds the speed of sound, hypersonic flight refers to going five times the speed of sound or more.  http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2013/05/03/190327/experimental-aircraft-speeds-to.html#.UYYDNn7n-cxGive this technology about 50 years to mature and see what happens.  It could be exciting or it may just fizzle out.

Another View On Morning After Pill Controversy

Obama Kids: Future Morning After Pill Users
The Obama administration won't like this argument.
From the Oklahoman: In court documents filed this week, Hobby Lobby Stores Inc. argues that the recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration decision to make the emergency contraceptive Plan B One-Step available without a prescription for anyone age 15 and older proves that the company should not have to cover the cost of the contraceptives for its employees.
Hobby Lobby and company founder David Green and his family argue in a letter to the court that the FDA's decision shows that access to the drug is not restricted by the Greens' religious objections to covering the drugs' cost.
“The FDA's decision confirms that the government has numerous less-restrictive ways of ensuring that women have broad access to emergency contraceptives without needing to penalize appellants (Hobby Lobby and the Green family) for their religious obligation to avoid paying for the drugs,” the letter said.  http://newsok.com/hobby-lobby-says-fda-decision-bolsters-companys-birth-control-fight/article/3806244
Sounds like the Obama administration just shot it's self in the foot on this one.
But hey, if Obama wants his girls, Malia and Sasha, to have access to the pills without his knowledge or permission, who am I to argue.

Newspaper Uses Racial Slur, Will Anyone Be Fired?

Of course the slur was against a white man who is a white supremacist.
From he Sacramento Bee: Tattoos crept above the collar of Charles Francis Gaskins' black-and-white shirt with the big, bold letters on the back that read "COURT."
Marked in blue ink across his throat were the numerals "23". The number helped explain why Gaskins was about to get sentenced Friday to life in prison, on his admission of murder, by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Sharon A. Lueras.
In the prison culture, authorities say, the 23rd letter in the alphabet, W, is known as the first letter for the correctional system's racial designation of "white."
According to his probation report, Gaskins was a member of the longtime white supremacist prison group called the "Peckerwoods."As a Peckerwood, Gaskins was obligated to attack anybody within his ethnicity with a history of child molestation. In Gaskins' case, he was on parole four years ago and living with his wife in the house she owned on Whitney Avenue in Carmichael when an old acquaintance from the Deuel Vocational Institution near Tracy, Neil Lee Hayes, got out of prison. Looking for a place to live, Hayes moved in with Gaskins, now 48, and his wife, Sandra Sheaves, 43.  http://www.sacbee.com/2013/05/04/5394206/life-in-prison-for-capital-area.htmlSo, if a black gang called themselves the "Niggers" would the Sac. Bee use the word "nigger"?If a Mexican gang used the word "Wetback", would the Sac bee use that in their article? But because it was a white guy, who is not a nice guy, they decided to racial slur in naming the name of the gang this bozo belonged to.

Interesting: Gay Marriage Ends Domestic Partners

From the Baltimore Sun: The O'Malley administration has notified state employees in same-sex relationships that they won't be able to include domestic partners in their health insurance anymore.
If they want coverage, they'll have to get married.
The policy change is the result of the new Maryland law allowing same-sex marriage, which took effect Jan. 1. The thinking is that offering health coverage to an unmarried same-sex partner doesn't make sense anymore, officials said, particularly since an unmarried heterosexual partner doesn't have the same right.
But the move by the administration — which introduced domestic partner benefits in 2009 and championed marriage equality last year — has drawn polite dissent from some of the administration's staunchest allies.
"It's really not the most equitable thing to be doing right now," said Carrie Evans, executive director of the gay and lesbian rights group Equality Maryland.
But the administration — backed by at least one prominent lesbian lawmaker — contends the decision is a matter of simple fairness.
A spokeswoman for Gov. Martin O'Malley said he extended domestic partnership status to same-sex couples, but not unmarried straight couples, precisely because people of the same gender were not permitted to marry.
Now that same-sex couples can marry, spokeswoman Raquel Guillory said, that reason no longer exists.
Read more: http://www.baltimoresun.com/features/gay-lesbian/bs-md-domestic-benefits-20130502,0,2314573.story#ixzz2SJhbpRDF
Even though I am not in favor of gay marriage because of my religious beliefs, the people in Maryland voted (or their representatives) for gay marriage.
Therefore, I think this is a good idea- get rid of domestic partnership benefits.  If you want the benefits, go get married, gay or straight.

Why Republicans Are Sooo Stupid

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson appeared Friday on public television's 'Off the Record,' where he called Speaker of the House Jase Bolger 'Adolf Bolger.'

From the Detroit Free Press: Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson apologized via Twitter late Friday after igniting a firestorm of criticism from both sides of the political aisle by calling fellow Republican and state Speaker of the House Jase Bolger “Adolf Bolger.”
Patterson, during a discussion on his opposition to proposed no-fault auto insurance reforms, went a step further during his appearance on WKAR public television’s “Off the Record” Friday morning, pulling a comb from his pocket and putting it over his lip like the Nazi leader’s infamous mustache.
“Adolf Bolger, he’s throwing his weight around … and embarrassing himself,” Patterson said.  http://www.freep.com/article/20130503/NEWS05/305030054/Brooks-Patterson-Jase-Bolger-Hitler
Stupid incidents like this cost the Republicans from controlling the U.S. Senate this past election.
And if the GOP doesn't learn quickly how to behave in public, in 2014, the GOP will blow another chance to regain the Senate.

Drop Him From The Hall Of Fame?

This is a surprise.
From the New York Daily News: The Mick may have used a corked bat in the waning days of his Hall of Fame career.
An auction house says they’ve gotten their hands on a doctored Mickey Mantle bat — and they’re selling it to the highest bidder starting at $5,000.
It’s a 35-inch long, 32.6-ounce Hillerich & Bradsby Co. ash baseball bat manufactured in 1964 with “a light coat of pine tar at the mid handle,” according to the description on the Grey Flannel Auctions website.
But on closer inspection, authentication expert John Taube noticed a tell-tale spot on the barrel.
“The finish in the area has also been touched up to mask the circular area,” Taube reported. “Alterations of this nature indicate the barrel has been drilled and filled with cork.”
And an X-ray confirmed it.
There have long been rumors that the Yankee slugger sometimes used a corked bat, but up till now “none of the bats have surfaced,” the site claims.
Corking a bat, which supposedly makes it lighter thus enabling the batter to swing faster, is illegal in Major League Baseball.
Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/x-ray-shows-bat-mickey-mantle-corked-expert-article-1.1334662#ixzz2SJYeg3GE
If they can deny Pete Rose for betting on baseball games, then they can take Mantle out of the Hall of Fame for cheating, just like they are keeping steroid users like McGuire, Sosa and Bonds out of the Hall of Fame.

How About Here?

From the New York Daily News:
He's a body without a burial plot. Four cemeteries in three states have refused to accept the battered corpse of Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev, said the Massachusetts funeral director tasked with finding his final resting place.
Peter Stefan, funeral director and owner of Graham Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors in Worcester, Mass., tried to find a plot for Tsarnaev in New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts — but nobody wants to bury the Russian-born terrorist on their land, he said.
If nothing comes up, “we have to go to the federal government and then we have to ask them for assistance” to find a place, said Stefan.

I have a suggestion where to bury the Boston bomber:

RC Pig Farm in North Las Vegas, NV.
The pigs would know what to do with the body.

Shouldn't They be Doing That Already?

From the San Fran Chronicle: The Homeland Security Department ordered border agents to verify that every international student who arrives in the U.S. has a valid student visa, according to an internal memorandum obtained Friday by The Associated Press. The new procedure is the government's first security change directly related to the Boston bombings.
The order, which is effective immediately, came from a senior official at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, David J. Murphy. It was circulated Thursday, one day after the Obama administration acknowledged that a student from Kazakhstan accused of hiding evidence for one of the Boston bombing suspects was allowed to return to the U.S. in January without a valid student visa.
Read more: http://www.sfgate.com/news/politics/article/US-orders-new-visa-reviews-for-arriving-students-4486257.php#ixzz2SJSNVWJ0
Homeland Security should have been doing this already and if they haven't, why not?
Seems like the Obama administration dropped the ball on this policy.

It's Like Sleeping With Your Sister

From Politico: NPR’s popular “Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me” trivia show gets its fair share of big name political guests (Bill Clinton called in once, for example), but host Peter Sagal knows that there’s a specific shortage he’d like to fill: Republicans.
Asked by Vulture, “Is there a dream guest for you? Someone you’ve been trying to get that you think you never will?” Sagal responded, “I would love to get more Republicans on the show.”
“One of the things I really envy about Jon Stewart is how many times he’s able to get Republicans on his show. And that’s to his credit: He’s seen as somebody who will talk fairly with everyone, who’s interested in everyone. And I am, too! But because we’re NPR, and we have that reputation — which I think is unfair, both specifically to us and nationwide — and because it’s silly, I think a lot Republican people [won’t come on]. I’ve been really eager to get a major Republican politician on the show, but circumstances are such that it’s getting harder and harder to do that these days.”
Read more: http://www.politico.com/story/2013/05/npr-show-in-plea-for-gop-guests-90902.html#ixzz2SJEeqHVn
Sagal is a lying POS.
“I would love it — I would love it — if John Boehner would come on our show and be charming and funny in a way that we haven’t seen. I would love that. If he told some jokes about his skin color, and people understood that he could do self-deprecation, and then went on his way and thought, That was a good experience
Except, that isn't what happens with Democrats/liberals when they are on the show.  Most of the time they are honored and nothing bad is said about them.
I've listened to "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" many, many times and it is a liberal comedy show with very liberal guests who rip on conservatives all the time, most of the time, unfairly.  And they rarely, if ever, rip on Democrats, especially President Obama.
And GOP members would want to go on that show, why?

Busy Day In Henderson For First Responders

It's been a fairly busy day for the normally quiet Henderson, NV.
Early this afternoon, a large house under construction burned down near Mannion Middle School, with the smoke being seen all over the Las Vegas Valley.
Currently, in our neighborhood, Henderson and Las Vegas Metro SWAT are running around in a gated community, near Horizon Ridge and Gibson.  Not sure what is going, other than there was the Sheriff's helicopter flying around, City of Las Vegas Fire heavy rescue truck and cops running around with semi-automatic rifles.
Will find out more, if I can.
Update: Even though there were two SWAT teams, about 30 police vehicles, at least 2 fire department vehicles, cops running around with shot guns and semi automatic rifles across the street from a busy park, there is nothing in the local media about what happened.  Great job media.
It appears the situation ended around 11:30 PM, but there were still police vehicles in front of the house and a park parking lot filled with police vehicles, about 25 or so.
Hopefully, the morning news will have something.

And Here, I Thought It Was The Mexicans Fault

From the Daily Mail Online: President Obama used a speech at Mexico’s Museo Nacional de Antropología – the National Anthropology Museum – to claim that ‘most of the guns used to commit violence here in Mexico come from the United States.’
‘I think many of you know that in America, our Constitution guarantees our individual right to bear arms,’ Obama said. ‘And as president, I swore an oath to uphold that right, and I always will.’
‘But at the same time, as I’ve said in the United States, I will continue to do everything in my power to pass common-sense reforms that keep guns out of the hands of criminals and dangerous people.’
Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2319205/In-gun-control-argument-Obama-blames-Americans-Mexican-deaths--Most-guns-used-commit-violence-Mexico-come-United-States.html#ixzz2SHhLyBMQ
Of course, the U.S. government is also responsible for giving guns to the bad people, like in Fast and Furious, in which no one was held responsible, someone like Eric Holder.
And aren't the Mexicans also shoulder their share of the of the murders?
Just another example of our poor excuse of a president, the Apologizer in Chief.

Global Warming, What Global Waming

Well. Tehre Goes My Hotmail Account

From the San Fran Chronicle:
Hotmail, once a mainstay of email and internet communication, is no more.
As of today, every single Hotmail account has been migrated to Outlook.com, Microsoft's newer and redesigned email experience.
Your Hotmail account will stay the same – people can continue emailing you at [your address]@hotmail.com – but the interface and experience no longer have a thing to do with the Hotmail name.
Outlook.com announced two new features today that Hotmail users can take advantage of right away. These are Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, a popular and device-friendly standard for receiving your email, and deeper integration with SkyDrive, Microsoft's cloud storage solution. Instead of sending an attachment from your hard drive, for example, it's now a snap to send a file stored in your SkyDrive.
Rest in peace, Hotmail.

This Might be Good

From the Washington Times:
Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez addressed the issue on everyone’s lips last week during the paper’s in-house awards ceremony, Huffington Post blogger Kathleen Miles reports.
“Raise your hand if you would quit if the paper was bought by Austin Beutner’s group,” Mr. Lopez asked. No one raised their hands.
Then he asked, “Raise you hand if you would quit if the paper was bought by Rupert Murdoch,” to which a few raised their hands.
Then he addressed the elephant in the room: “Raise your hand if you would quit if the paper was bought by the Koch brothers.”
About half the staff raised their hands, Ms. Miles reports.
A spokesperson for the free-market tycoons, Charles and David Koch, addressed growing speculation in March about a potential bid for Tribune Co., owner of The Times.
“As an entrepreneurial company with 60,000 employees around the world, we are constantly exploring profitable opportunities in many industries and sectors. So, it is natural that our name would come up in connection with this rumor,” Melissa Cohlmia, Koch Industries‘ director of corporate communications, said in an email to The Hollywood Reporter....
Read more: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/may/1/report-half-la-times-staff-would-quit-if-bought-ou/#ixzz2S7OxfDD1
Reports show that Koch Industries is the only group prepared to buy the company that is struggling to emerge from a four-year bankruptcy. According to Ms. Miles “the predominantly Democratic city is quivering” at the idea.
Cool
I think it would be great if the Koch Brothers bought some newspapers and it caused the liberal writers to leave.
Then they can be replaced with conservative writers.
Go Koch Brothers!

Really?

Writer
Talk about media bias.  From the Las Vegas Sun: Thousands of people gathered downtown Wednesday afternoon to rally in support of immigration reform, then chanted their way down Las Vegas Boulevard toward the Stratosphere while passing vehicles honked their horns in support.

He doesn't.  He is just assuming, which makes him an ass.

Senile Harry Reid Shows His Stupidity Again

Today, Senile/Liar/Pathetic/Coward Harry Reid decided to go on the Rusty Humphries conservative talk radio show.
One of the first words out of Reid's lying mouth was that the Tea Party hated government, all government.
Umm, Senile/Liar/Coward Reid, the Tea Party doesn't hate government, they hate wasteful big government.
I haven't met many Tea Party folks who don't like having a police department, fire department, animal control, some parks and recreation departments, schools, helping the disabled, elderly an those who are truly down on their luck, jails, military, immigration control and some other areas of government that may be helpful.
Sadly, Humphries never challenged Reid on that, though I do give him credit and Reid credit for being on the show.

Pawn Stars To Change Day, Time

From Robin Leach and the Las Vegas Sun: “Pawn Stars” also has the new theme to mark the move from 10 p.m. Mondays to 9 p.m. Thursdays starting May 30. The surprise hit reality TV show is still No. 1 in more than 250 countries and is expected to increase its audience with the new primetime slot.

While their ratings are strong, they haven't gone up very much in the past couple of years, at least in the United States.
Will the ratings go up by being an hour earlier?  Who knows.
Kind of explains why they haven't been seen on some Mondays lately, though.
