This Will Be A Death Sentence

From the Tulsa World:
CUSHING — A 97-year-old Payne County man was charged Friday with fatally shooting his great-granddaughter at their home.
Russell Eugene Dawes told a deputy on Thursday that he “got tired of her carrying on and I shot her,” according to an affidavit filed in Payne County District Court on Friday.
The affidavit says Dawes was the grandfather of the victim, 30-year-old Sonja James, but both Payne County District Attorney Tom Lee and Dawes’ attorney Cheryl Ramsey said he was her great-grandfather.
Lee said Dawes and James lived together on South Agra Road west of Cushing. He said Dawes had no criminal record of which he is aware.
Ramsey said Dawes is a “very nice gentleman” who served in World War II and had not been in trouble with the law until his arrest on Thursday.
The slaying was reported to authorities by a funeral director who was contacted by Dawes, the affidavit says.
Rodger Floyd, the owner and director of the Davis Funeral Home in Cushing, went to the residence shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday in response to a call from Dawes to pick up a dead body, the document says.
Floyd said Friday night that he called the Payne County Sheriff’s Office on his way to Dawes’ house to report an unattended death.
Once Floyd was there, Dawes confessed to him that he had shot and killed James, Floyd said.
He then immediately called the Sheriff’s Office back and relayed the conversation, he said Friday night.
Floyd said he has been in the funeral business since the late 1970s and has known Dawes for more than 30 years.
“I never had anything like this happen before,” Floyd said.
A deputy who responded to the call found James’ body on a bed with a gunshot wound in her chin area, according to the affidavit.
Dawes appeared before Payne County Special Judge Robert L. Hert Jr. on a first-degree murder charge Friday.
He is being held without bail in the Payne County Jail in Stillwater. Ramsey said she could ask for a bond hearing in the future.  http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/state/year-old-cushing-man-charged-with-killing-granddaughter/article_43b67644-5ebc-11e3-9e8a-001a4bcf6878.html
In this case, I support the no bail as this was a cold blooded murder.  Yep, he's 97 but he is still a thug.

Obama The Eagle Killer

From USA Today: The Obama administration said Friday it will allow some companies to kill or injure bald and golden eagles for up to 30 years without penalty, an effort to spur development and investment in green energy while balancing its environmental consequences.
The change, requested by the wind energy industry, will provide legal protection for the lifespan of wind farms and other projects for which companies obtain a permit and make efforts to avoid killing the birds.
An investigation by The Associated Press earlier this year documented the illegal killing of eagles around wind farms, the Obama administration's reluctance to prosecute such cases and its willingness to help keep the scope of the eagle deaths secret. The White House has championed wind power, a pollution-free energy intended to ease global warming, as a cornerstone of President Barack Obama's energy plan.  http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2013/12/06/for-wind-power-us-extends-permit-for-eagle-deaths/3890667/
So, killing birds, including Eagles and endangered birds, is acceptable according to the Obama administration and for 30 years, all in the name of some useless green energy source: wind mills.
Like the Obama administration, here is an example of a typical wind mill:

Lying Waitress Fired, Now Let Her Supporters Need To Apologize

From Fox News: A New Jersey waitress who received thousands of dollars in gratuities after claiming she received a homophobic note in lieu of a tip has been let go by the restaurant at which she worked.
Dayna Morales, a 22-year-old former Marine, claimed last month that a family of four who racked up a $93.55 bill at the Gallop Asian Bistro in Branchburg, N.J., left her no tip, only a note saying they couldn’t leave any extra cash for her service because they “do not agree with your lifestyle.”  http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/12/08/waitress-in-anti-gay-receipt-flap-has-employment-ended/
I am sensitive to people who lose their jobs, but in this case, this idiot deserved to lose her job and never again work in a field that deals with customers.
Yes, she has problems, but even worse is that so many people were so eager to believe her even though her story was so obviously a huge lie.  People were so eager to believe a lying waitress and condemn a conservative family, and that is one of the big tragedies.  It's time that these idiots who believed her offer up some apologies as well.  They were just as stupid as the lying former waitress.
My friend Jamie says the gay blogosphere is ripping on this lying former waitress and I certainly hope so because they look silly otherwise.

Las Vegas Weather Forecasters Screw Up Again

All this week, including last night, the weather forecasters have been predicting some rain and a large area of snow for Saturday morning through the evening.  The Western part of the Valley was supposed to get 2 inches of snow, with more up in the mountains.
Well, the rain never materialized, the snow certainly did not and we have a beautiful clear day with the temperature right now being 47.  The weather.com web site is still predicting snow tonight.
Once again, it shows why the weather forecasters who work in Las Vegas are the worst in the nation- they just cannot predict the weather.

ObamaCare Disaster Still A Disaster

From Fox News:
The Obama administration announced Friday that enrollment records for one in four Americans who selected health plans on HealthCare.gov in October and November could contain errors, raising concerns that consumers who think they have coverage won't actually be enrolled on Jan. 1.
c5Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services spokeswoman Julie Bataille said recent fixes to HealthCare.gov have brought the error rate on forms sent to insurance companies down to about one in 10 for files generated after Dec. 1, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The electronic files, known as 834 forms, give insurance companies basic information about would-be customers, including their name, address, contact information and Social Security number. Insurance companies have reported issues with the files since the law's rollout.
"The new process put in place this week is making a difference. The enrollment files are getting better, but there is more work to do to ensure consumers are covered," Karen Ignani, the chief executive officer of insurance industry trade group, America’s Health Insurance Plans, said in a statement obtained by the New York Post on Friday.
CMS is reaching out to hundreds of thousands of consumers who have tried to enroll for health coverage but aren't enrolled, according to Bataille, who said consumers should be contacted by the insurance company for a payment after selecting a plan.
"Our clear priority is fixing any remaining bugs causing problems and working to make sure every 834 form past and present is resolved," Bataille said, according to The Journal.
Ms. Bataille said errors with the enrollment forms include duplicate files, lack of a file altogether, or a file with mistaken data such as a child incorrectly being listed as a spouse.
AHIP spokesman Robert Zirkelbach told FoxNews.com last week that insurance companies have received duplicative and inaccurate forms, and "in some cases, plans are not getting the enrollment files at all." Getting that fixed, he said, is "critical."
Though the administration has given people until the end of March to sign up for coverage if they want to avoid a fine, coverage for many is supposed to start on Jan. 1. That leaves less than 30 days to fix the remaining glitches.
The administration announced last week it is working on a system to pay insurers its portion of premiums and cost-sharing payments. A temporary workaround has been proposed that would allow insurers to estimate how much they are owed, and submit the bill to the government.  http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/12/07/ills-healthcaregov-errors-in-obamacare-website-forms-spark-concerns/
This is not some conservative making these reports, it is the Obama Administration, so chances are, the numbers are even worse.
But an error rate of 10% is horrible.  For every million people who signed up (wishful thinking, I know) 100,000 will have errors on them and these people will not be covered when they thought they were.
And yet, no one has ben fired.

Crap: Snuggle House Closes

Want to Snuggle With Him?

From the Badger Herald: Madisonians will have one less place to snuggle with a complete stranger after The Snuggle House announced it is closing “for good” in a Facebook post Friday night.
Open for just 22 days, the business charging $60 per snuggle saw negative press and a delay in its grand opening as city attorneys worried its services could result in prostitution. The Snuggle House said in a Facebook comment that it was closing because “the push back and harassment is not worth it, honestly.”
One of many commenters on the farewell post said they were disappointed and didn’t think the organization would “let the haters win,” but in response The Snuggle House simply said “let em win.”
“It has nothing to do with the services. It has to do with how much hate you want to tolerate. It’s not worth it. Not these days,” The Snuggle House said in a comment on its post.
The business said in the post it made the decision to close just two hours before the announcement and encouraged its 30,000 Facebook fans to “Snuggle on!”  http://badgerherald.com/news/2013/12/06/rip-snuggle-house-post-announces-snugglers-closing-shop-good/

NFL Predictions: December 8, 2013

Another Reason Not To Go On CraigsList

From Fox News: Newlyweds just three weeks removed from their wedding day lured a Pennsylvania man to his death with a Craigslist ad because they wanted to kill someone together, police said.
Elytte Barbour told officers before his arrest Friday night that he and his wife, Miranda, had planned to kill before but their plans never worked out until last month when Troy LaFerrara responded to an online posting that promised companionship in return for money.
Elytte Barbour, 22, and Miranda Barbour, 18, both face criminal homicide charges in LaFerrara's death. His body was found Nov. 12 in an alley in Sunbury, a small city about 100 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The couple recently moved to nearby Selinsgrove from North Carolina.
According to Sunbury police, Elytte Barbour told investigators he hid in the backseat of the couple's SUV as his wife picked up LaFerrara at a mall on Nov. 11. He told police that, on his wife's signal, he wrapped a cord around LaFerrara's neck, restraining him while Miranda Barbour stabbed him....
Following his wife's arrest, Elytte Barbour told The Daily Item of Sunbury his wife, whom he married on Oct. 22, regularly hired herself out as a "companion" to men she met on various websites, a business venture he said he supported because it did not involve sexual contact.
Barbour said his wife made anywhere from $50 to $850 for meeting with men for such activities as having dinner or walking around a mall. The ads she placed on websites including Craigslist all said upfront that sex was not part of the deal, he said.  http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/12/07/pennsylvania-newlyweds-killed-man-for-thrills-police-say/?intcmp=latestnews
How desperate do you have to be to answer a Craigslist ad to find companionship?
I went on once on Craigslist and found a cute little bunny and another time and found a dog and bought them but if things looked strange, I would have backed out.
But to find a fake girl friend on Craigslist, umm, no.

Another Gay Hate Hoax

People were so darn gullible to believe this evil person and now those believing her look like damn fools.
From Fox News: A New Jersey waitress who received thousands of dollars in gratuities after claiming she received an anti-gay note in lieu of a tip is reportedly issuing refunds to those who gave donations.
Dayna Morales, a 22-year-old former Marine, claimed last month that a family of four who racked up a $93.55 bill at the Gallop Asian Bistro in Branchburg, N.J., left her no tip, only a note saying they couldn’t leave any extra cash for her service because they “do not agree with your lifestyle.”
Morales quickly emailed the story to a gay advocacy website and later posted a photograph of the purported check on her Facebook page. The alleged incident made national headlines and resulted in thousands of dollars being donated to Morales, who said she would send all proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project. ....
Meanwhile, a representative of the Florida-based Wounded Warrior Project could not confirm Morales had made any donations as of Wednesday, Bridgewater Patch reported.
A representative for the nonprofit group that caters to veterans returning from overseas checked for donations by Morales’ name and within the ZIP codes for Bridgewater, N.J., where she worked, and Bedminster, where Morales said she lives, and was unable to locate any correlating donations. The donations may have been made from a different ZIP code or by a third-party, the representative told the website....
The couple accused of leaving the note for Morales has since denied doing so, telling NBC 4 New York they did in fact leave an $18 tip on the $93 bill. The unidentified couple also provided the station a credit card statement that indicated the tip, according to the report.
NBC News has also reported that a Pentagon source said Morales was dismissed from the Marine Reserve Corps in May because she was not attending drills and that she was discharged under “less than honorable” conditions.
Several of Morales’ acquaintances also since questioned her credibility. Kristina Calamusa, who described herself as a former friend of Morales, told The Daily Caller late last month that the waitress claimed to her that she was “blown up by a land mine overseas.”
But, according to Calamusa, that story was false; Morales was never on active duty. The Journal News of White Plains, N.Y., has also quoted acquaintances of Morales who say she lied about her military service.
Julie Howat and Karolee Larkin, both 23, related to the newspaper a story Morales supposedly told them about her serving in Afghanistan and surviving an explosion that killed everyone in her platoon, leaving her as the unit’s sole survivor. But Maj. Shawn Haney, a spokesman for the Marines, said in an email to The Journal News that while Morales did serve in the Marines Corps reserve from July 2009 to May 2013, there’s no indication in her record of combat service in Afghanistan or Iraq.  http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/12/07/waitress-in-anti-gay-receipt-flap-reportedly-issuing-refunds-to-donors/?intcmp=latestnews
People were so quick to believe her story just because she was this waitress and the supposed evil doers were evil conservatives.
But it was very obvious from the first time the story hit that this story was false.
She claimed she wanted to spit into the food of the evil conservatives when she was carrying the food out.
How many sit down restaurants do you know that will bill you and the customers pay a tip before they even get their food?
But people believed her, paid money to her and she stole it from them and the veterans.
This lady needs to be prosecuted for theft and a hate crime.

Never Forget

December 7, 1941, a day that will in infamy.

Ha! Senile Harry Reid's Helath Insurance Goes Up $4500

But I thought health insurance costs were going to go down?
From the Reno Gazette Journal: "And I will also note that there are 150,000 million different families that get their health care through their employees," Reid said. "So should all federal employees, although under Obamacare, my insurance costs me about $4,500 more that it did before. Yes, because it is age-related and it wasn’t like that before.”  http://www.rgj.com/article/20131206/NEWS19/312060025/Nevada-s-Harry-Reid-CNN-wrong-health-care-report
Senile/Liar/Coward Reid makes about $193,400 a year plus whatever he steals from the taxpayers and using insider trading.
His health insurance increase alone took 2.3% of his income.
A person who makes $50,000 would lose $1150 of their income just from the same cost increase, money these people cannot afford, especially if they have a family.
Reid is a liar when he says his rates went up because of the age thing.  What, he aged 20 years in 1 year?  A person's health insurance rates do not increase that much from aging a year.  Some of the increase probably comes from having maternity care and birth control on his policy.
Senile/Coward/Liar Reid just doesn't get it.  ObamaCare is costing people money, not saving people money.
He has helped perpetrate the biggest fraud in American history.

I Wonder Where He Is Going To Put The Trophy?

From ESPN: Ricky Stenhouse Jr. quickly learned an important lesson in his race with girlfriend Danica Patrick for NASCAR's rookie of the year award.
After on-track battles between the two led to at least two accidents, Stenhouse figured out it was best to always take the blame.
"Battles are tough, especially when you are going against your girlfriend," Stenhouse said.
Stenhouse accepted the 2013 Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year award Thursday during the annual Myers Brothers awards ceremony.
The two-time Nationwide Series champion finished 19th in the Cup standings, while Patrick finished 27th.
"We've had a few run-ins, which resulted in one really quiet ride home," Stenhouse said. "And I learned real quick that if there's a question it could be my fault, it's better to go ahead and just apologize and get it over with.
"But all in all, we had a lot of fun this year."  http://espn.go.com/racing/nascar/cup/story/_/id/10085897/ricky-stenhouse-jr-trumps-girlfriend-danica-patrick-top-rookie
Stenhouse proved he is a capable driver and kept improving throughout the season.
Danica Patrick, on the other hand, started out strong at Daytona, where she won the pole and went downhill from there.  Her lack of experience in stock cars showed and many times during the season, she was the laughing stock of NACAR.  What is even more disappointing is that she had a great car,  great crew chief and a great crew to support her.
She finished behind Mark Martin in the standings, even though he ran a part time schedule, barely beat her boss, Tony Stewart who missed the last several months of the season due to a severe injury and basically only beat some start and parkers, drivers with inferior equipment and part time drivers.
So, I wonder where Stenhouse will put the Rookie of the Year Trophy in their house?  Up on the mantel above the fireplace for everyone to see or hidden in the closet so no one will see it?

Good

From the New York Daily News:
A court-appointed guardian is dropping her attempt to force an 11-year-old Amish girl with leukemia to resume chemotherapy after she and her parents fled their home to avoid treatment.
The move filed in court Friday will likely bring an end to a months-long fight between Sarah Hershberger’s family and a hospital that began when her parents decided to halt the treatments because they were making the girl sick.
The guardian, an attorney who’s also a registered nurse, was given the power to make medical decisions for Sarah after an appeals court ruling in October said the beliefs and convictions of the girl’s parents can’t outweigh the rights of the state to protect the child.
But the guardian, Maria Schimer, decided to drop the effort because she doesn’t know where Sarah is now and it has become impossible to monitor her health or make any medical decisions, said Clair Dickinson, an attorney for Schimer.
“It didn’t make sense to drag this on any longer,” he said.
Doctors at Akron Children’s Hospital believe Sarah’s leukemia is treatable, but say she will die within a year if she halts chemotherapy. The hospital went to court after the family decided to stop chemotherapy and treat Sarah with natural medicines, such as herbs and vitamins.
Sarah’s father said the family doesn’t oppose modern medicine and that they didn’t make their decision based on religious reasons.
They ended chemotherapy because it was making her too sick and they feared it could end up killing her, the family’s attorney, Maurice Thompson, said.

My guess is that the guardian realized that the parents were a loving family and were looking out for the best interests of the child but had had to give a bogus story to make her look good.

Pawn Stars Review: December 5, 2013 Part 2

Thank you for coming back for Part 2 of Pawn Stars review, the 2nd episode.

In this episode, the first guy brought in a 1951 Pan Head motorcycle.  The motorcycle brought in had larger handlebars. http://www.caimag.com/wordpress/2009/11/04/harley-panhead-motorcycle-photo-gallery/
The Pan Head is a relative of Harley Davidson.
The guy wanted $19,000 and time for an expert, Chris Richardson, from LA Speed Shop out of Alhambra, CA  http://laspeedshop.com/  Long way to get an expert.  Corey took the bike for a test ride, even though the bike did nt have a license plate.
Chris thought the bike was worth about $15,000.  Corey offered $10,000 and the guy came down to $15,000 and Corey went to $13,000 and the selling price was $13,500.

647.jpg (24 kb)

The next lady brought in a 1908 Concert Roller Organ, as seen on the right.
The lady wanted $600 for the organ.
Rick offered $400 and the lady went to $500 and Rick went to $450 and that was the sale price.  Time for an expert to see if they can fix it up.  Roy Page from Roy's Repair o Rama came in. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Roys-Repair-O-Rama/215547691795694
Check out the guy's side burns.  Roy took it to refurbish it and said it it could sell for $3000.
The story line was Rick going for a manicure.  Umm, maybe good for him but not for me.  Corey went the manicure and a pedicure and Lilli went along with them. (check out the sunglasses on Corey- they look like Ray Charles glasses.)  Not so manly, Corey.  They went to Body Spa West in Summerlin: http://www.bodyspasalons.com/
At least Rick didn't go for the nail polish.
Babe Ruth Red Rock Cola Tin Sign
The next guy brought in a Babe Ruth Red Rock Cola poster with a picture of Babe Ruth on it.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Rock_(beverage)
The guy wanted $2000 and Rick said a lot of the posters were made.  Rick offered $400 (even though on the Internet, they are going for $20)  The selling price was $400.
Thanks for stopping by... again.
There will be two new episodes of Pawn Stars next week.

Nelson Mandela Was A Great Man, But....

But President Obama should not have ordered the U.S. flags to be flown at half staff.
Nelson Mandela was a great man who overcame huge obstacles to help free the Blacks of South Africa from apartheid.
While fighting a good cause in South Africa, his influence on American life was negligible.
Flying a flag at half mast should be for presidents, vice presidents, Supreme Court Justices and for major emergencies, like 9-11. (Flying a flag at half staff for Harry Reid, Mitch McConnell, Nancy Pelosi and John Boehner would seem to be a horrible, horrible idea)
I also understand that flags were flown at half staff for Pope John Paul 2 and I think that was wrong.  The only other person was Winston Churchill who deserved the honor more than Mandela, but still wrong.
I believe that flying a flag at half staff should be for Americans and Americans only.
There have been many foreigners who have helped the United States who deserve a flag flown at half staff when they died.  The last person was Margaret Thatcher of England, but Obama said no.  When the Queen of England dies, she may be another one.
And did South Africa lower their flag when Ronald Reagan died or any other U.S. president?
So, while Nelson Mandela was a great man, especially for South Africa and Africa, his influence in the United States was minimal, other that being inspirational, the United States flag should not be flown at half staff.

Arrested For What?

From jsonline: Greendale police have arrested a 75-year-old West Allis man following the evacuation of the Southridge Mall parking lot on Friday for a suspected grenade.
Mall security called police about 9:30 a.m. to report a grenade was inside a vehicle in the Southridge parking lot, according to a news release.
A security officer noticed the device when placing a parking warning on the vehicle. Greendale police evacuated and blocked off the area while waiting for the Milwaukee County Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit to arrive.
The county unit determined the grenade was a replica. The 75-year-old West Allis man was arrested and will be referred to the Milwaukee County district attorney's office on unspecific charges, according to a Greendale police news release.
http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/police-arrest-man-75-over-replica-grenade-at-southridge-mall-lot-b99158349z1-234793841.html
So, what will be the charge?  Unless he displayed it in a threatening manner and threatened to use the fake grenade, what possible charge could there be?
And why is he still in custody?  Pretty brave for the cops to throw a 75 year old man on no charges and he wasn't a danger to the pubic.

"Felony Thief" Dina Titus: Petty Bitch Of The Year

Talk about a petty little ugly blonde bitch, Felony Thief Dina Titus sure is one.
From the LVRJ: A proposal to name the peak of Frenchman Mountain after former President Ronald Reagan has been scuttled, and all it took was an act of Congress.
According to the man behind the Mount Reagan proposal, conservative activist Chuck Muth, Rep. Dina Titus effectively derailed the official naming process clear back on Oct. 30. That’s when the Democrat from Las Vegas quietly introduced a simple, one-page bill in the House seeking to name the same geographic feature after Maude Frazier, the first woman to serve as lieutenant governor of Nevada.
It turns out the will of Congress trumps any action by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names, which is usually the final arbiter of such things.
Muth said he only found out about Titus’ bill this week, when he contacted the head of the Nevada Board on Geographic Names for a status update on his proposal.
The state board signed off on the idea in September. The national board was expected to take it up before the end of the year, but now any action is on hold pending the outcome of House Resolution 3440.
Muth is not amused.
“I’m not saying Maude Frazier is not deserving of an honor, but no one had suggested naming that peak after her until after the Mount Reagan proposal was approved by the state board,” he said. “This was a cheap, petty, partisan political stunt.”  http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/titus-scuttles-nevada-reagan-peak-proposal-house-bill
So, of all the mountain peaks in the area, Felony Thief Titus, who is also a failed educator, decided that this particular peak was deserving of this honor after it was announced that Muth tried to get Reagan's name on the peak?
So, the Petty Bitch of the Year ago goes to the dumb blonde felony thief and failed educator, Dina Titus for her pure pettiness.

Gee, Another Hater Crime Hoax

From the New York Daily News:
The prime suspect believed to have scrawled racist graffiti on the house of a Lunenburg High School football player is well-known to the boy.
It’s his own mother.
Massachusetts police have listed Andrea Brazier, the mother of 13-year-old Isaac Phillips, as a “strong suspect” in the November hate crime, according to reports.
State and federal officials have been investigating the incident where an unknown assailant scrawled “Knights don’t need N----r” on the side of the Phillips’ home.
Phillips plays for the Lunenburg Knights football team.
Brazier had stopped helping investigators and offered several different accounts of the incident, according to a police affidavit obtained Wednesday by CBS Boston.
“Andrea just kept answering ‘OK,’ and that she wanted everything to end and that we did not understand,” Detective Jeffrey Thibodeau of the Lunenburg police said in an affidavit.
In a stunning turn of events, a police discovered spray paint cans while searching the home Tuesday, according to reports.
“Most of the leads that we have followed up throughout the investigation have led back toward the house,” Lunenburg Police Department Lt. Mike Luth told the Boston Globe.
Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/massachusetts-mom-prepreated-hate-crime-son-article-1.1538649#ixzz2mfugRUZO
Not a surprise, really.  Many hate crimes these days are really just hoaxes and the shame of it is that any real case of racism is disbelieved because of all these hoaxes.

ObamaCare Threatens Volunteer Fire Departments

From Firehouse.com: Congressman Lou Barletta is concerned that the Affordable Care Act could create a financial hardship for volunteer fire departments and jeopardize public safety if volunteer departments with 50 or more members are required to provide insurance for employees who work at least 30 hours per week.
While Barletta's concerns likely wouldn't pertain to volunteer fire departments in southern Luzerne County, several fire chiefs from throughout Greater Hazleton believe the congressman's questions have merit -- and deserve answers.
Barletta said in a news release issued Tuesday that he wants the Internal Revenue Service to clarify whether the Shared Responsibility Provision of Obamacare will result in "crushing cost increases" for Pennsylvania's volunteer fire fighters and emergency responders.
The IRS treats all firefighters -- whether they are volunteer or paid -- as employees for federal tax purposes, the congressman said. However, the Shared Responsibility Provision of the health care law requires employers of 50 or more employees to provide health insurance to anyone who works at least 30 hours per week or face a penalty, Barletta said.
"As a former mayor, I know from personal experience how much people count on their volunteer firefighters," Barletta said. "And once again Obamacare has raised more questions than it has answered. First, are all volunteer firefighters considered employees and therefore subject to the employer mandate under Obamacare? And second, how should volunteer time be counted to see if they're working 30 hours?"
Barletta wrote to IRS Acting Commissioner of Internal Revenue Daniel Werfel asking for clarification to "protect first responders."...
West Hazleton Fire Chief Dennis Ganc shared Barletta's concerns, saying issues raised by the congressman could create a bookkeeping nightmare for administrators who would have to decide how to track hours logged by volunteer members -- and potentially create a financial burden.
"We don't punch time clocks but we are technically on call around the clock," Ganc said. "If we're on call around the clock, does that constitute that you're constantly on the job? Realistically, we're not covered under the municipality unless our pager goes off and we're responding to a call, we're on the scene of an incident and/or at the firehouse performing responsibilities in the capacity as a volunteer firefighter."
He also asked how the government defines an hour of service provided by each volunteer.
"How would you determine how many hours a volunteer would be so-called 'working?'" Ganc asked.
West Hazleton's fire company has at least 50 people who are considered volunteer members, but Ganc estimates that between 20 and 25 consistently respond to calls.  http://www.firehouse.com/news/11266757/pa-congressional-rep-says-obamacare-threatens-volunteer-firefighters
My guess the IR and the Obama administration will not look favorably toward the volunteer fire departments.  The reasoning is that that the firefighters union hates volunteer fire departments and would like nothing better than get rid of them, especially the larger volunteer fire departments who get a large volume of calls.  If these departments are eliminated, that means these departments would become paid departments and increase the number of paid firefighters who join the firefighters union.

It's All About Him

From Fox News: A group of young ballerinas rehearsing for “The Nutcracker” was kicked out of American University’s theatre so MSNBC host Chris Matthews could interview President Obama on Thursday.
American University admitted they dumped Ballet Petite’s two final dress rehearsals so they could host MSNBC’s “Hardball College Tour.” Matthews will be presiding over a one-hour conversation with the man he’s likened to President Kennedy’s last brother, President Abraham Lincoln and Jesus Christ.
The ballet company had been scheduled to rehearse on Wednesday and Thursday in preparation for their opening performance on Sunday.
Instead, the girls will be forced to hold their final dress rehearsals on the same day as their opening performance.
Melissa Carney, the ballet company’s artistic director told The Washington Post they had signed a contract to rent the theatre in January. They were told they were being shoved out so Matthews could interview Obama on Tuesday.
“They did not ask,” she told the Post. “They told us.” ...
Parent Michael Robinson tells me that’s not much concession to his seven year old daughter and her fellow ballerinas.
“They are just crest-fallen,” Robinson said. “It’s the holiday season. They were so excited about practicing. It’s as if the Grinch came a little early.”
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2013/12/05/young-ballerinas-kicked-out-theater-for-msnbc-obama-interview/
Kind of sounds like ObamaCare.  Promises were made and then broken and people (kids) kicked out of their theater all because of Obama and his ego and his Brown Shirt supporters i.e. Chris Matthews.

Pawn Stars Review: December 5, 2013 Part 1

Unfortunately, due to double taping by my wife and me (Sound of Music), I can only review the first new Pawn Stars tonight  and I will get the other episode tomorrow afternoon, Pacific time.  Sorry.

Funny Amazon Ad

From Jeff Wagner: Do you have $39,997.99 burning a hole in your pocket?  Looking for a Christmas gift for that person who has everything?
Check out this 85-inch Ultra HD Samsung television currently being sold on  Amazon.  Better hurry though.  There are only 3 left in stock.
I typically don't recommend that people read comments that people post on internet sites.  In my experience, for every one insightful comment, you'll find 20 comments that simply make you feel dumber for reading them.
That said, check out the "Reviews" section for this product.  There are some really funny postings (as well as the usual dumb and/or inappropriate and/or generally clueless comments that you always find).   http://www.620wtmj.com/blogs/jeffwagner/234431951.html
Now, from Amazon: My wife and I bought this after selling our daughter Amanda into white slavery. We actually got a refurbished. It's missing the remote, but oh well-- for $10K off, I can afford a universal, right? The picture is amazing. I've never seen the world with such clarity.
Amanda, if you're reading this, hang in there, honey! We'll see you in a year.
*****
I just wanted to add an addendum to my review. Since posting it, we have received a flood of responses. People have said some pretty hurtful things--even questioning our values. Let me assure you, this was not an easy decision to make, and we made it as a family. Obviously, it's very personal. But in light of all the second-guessing, I wanted to explain our thinking.
First and foremost, screen size. I really think you can't go too big. 85" may seem huge, but you get used to it fast. Second, resolution. Is 4K overkill? Please, that's what they said about 1080P! More dots = better. Period. And as far as this being a $40,000 "dumb" TV, people need to re-read my initial post: WE BOUGHT IT REFURBISHED. It was only $30,000.
Some of you may think I'm avoiding the "elephant in the room"-the real reason why this was such a heart-wrenching choice. So let's just get it out there. Yes, the 120 Hz refresh rate is a disappointment, especially on a 4K. But life is full of compromises. And frankly, we hardly notice. All in all, no regrets.
P.S., as for our daughter, NO ONE has the right to question our parenting. Totally out of bounds. Amanda was going into 7th grade, so it was going to be a transitional year anyway. Now she gets to see the world. How many kids her age get to go to Bahrain? I sure as heck didn't, but you don't hear me screaming "child abuse." Bottom line: MYOB! Seriously.
  http://www.amazon.com/review/R1HFGHQE5PBV74/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#R1HFGHQE5PBV74
And: The way it swivels is fantastic, just fantastic. When I was in the market for a TV to replace my house I always wondered how I would stay dry when it rained and this TV had both the size and the ingenuity I needed. Whenever it starts to rain I simply flip the screen to horizontal, hunker down, and I stay nice and dry.
And: I was looking around for something I could buy that would have a large box. My kids really love making them into forts. I would say the joy on their face after I threw out the tv and have them the box was worth every thousand. My cat loves it also can't get him out of it.
And: Great unit... the only problem is that it puts out so many lumens of HD TV power that it vaporized my cat. All I have left to remember Mister Tiggums is a Hiroshima-like flash-shadow on the far wall of my apartment. Judging by the shadow, he was licking himself when he was nuked by 85 inches of Samsung awesomeness. All I can say is that he went out a happy cat!

Even Liberals Are Worried About ObamaCare

From the very liberal Huffington Post: Unresolved technical problems on HealthCare.gov could lead to a rude surprise at the doctor's office next month for patients who think they successfully used the website to sign up for health insurance. They may find they're not insured after all.
HealthCare.gov, the federal online portal for health-insurance shopping in more than 30 states, has improved after more than a month of intense fixes, and enrollment is accelerating. But insurance companies are still getting information on their would-be customers that is garbled and incomplete, and in some cases they are getting no information at all. President Barack Obama's administration is scrambling to repair the faulty system, but scant time remains until the Dec. 23 deadline for consumers to choose a health plan that will be in place Jan. 1.
The result could be an untold number of consumers remaining uninsured despite completing the enrollment process -- another embarrassing chapter in the rollout of the Affordable Care Act, Obama's signature health care reform law.
The Obama administration insists the enrollment glitches will be fixed in time to prevent any troubles next month, but won't disclose the extent of the problem. Nor will it guarantee that any patients who fall victim to these problems won't be exposed to medical bills if they get sick or injured.
"I doubt very seriously the insurance company or the government is going to say, 'Oh, don't worry, We'll take care of it.' I think that's going to fall solely on the patient," said Reid Blackwelder, a doctor in Kingsport, Tenn., who is president of the American Academy of Family Physicians. "I wouldn't count on anybody else jumping in and bailing everybody out."  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/05/obamacare-enrollment_n_4384820.html
So, because ObamaCare fails the customers, the problem becomes the fault of... the customers.
This is a huge fraud and sadly, no one is in jail, especially the number 1 fraudster, President Obama.

Big Whoopee, 29,000 Sign Up For ObamaCare In Two Days

From Politico:
About 29,000 people signed up for health insurance through HealthCare.gov on Sunday and Monday — a figure that surpasses the total for the whole month of October, an official familiar with the program told POLITICO.
The quickened pace of enrollments came as the White House hit its self-imposed Nov. 30 deadline to fix the troubled Affordable Care Act website.
The preliminary numbers for the two-day period provide the clearest evidence yet that the federal exchange is on the mend. About 26,000 people selected a health plan during October and about 100,000 people did so in November, the official said.
Read more: http://www.politico.com/story/2013/12/obamacare-enrollment-numbers-100654.html#ixzz2mfStC1gz
First, people may have enrolled but no one has paid for ObamaCare yet as that web site is still not built.
2nd, they need to have almost 40,000 people a DAY to make ObamaCare work.  They are still no where close to where they should be and the numbers are not going to improve.
It also doesn't say who is signing up.  Clearly, the majority of people who are signing up are older people and many with pre-existing conditions.
For ObamaCare to work, they need about 40% people signing up to be young people with no major medical problems and that is not happening.
The liberals are thrilled with these numbers but then, they are used to lowering expectations when things don't go their way.

If Increased Spending Is Good For The Economy, Then Why are Slashing The Military Budget?

From Fox News:
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced Wednesday that he's cutting his Pentagon staff by 20 percent in an effort to save at least $1 billion over five years, as part of broader across-the-board cutbacks at the Defense Department.
Hagel, at a news conference with Chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey, urged Congress to avoid another year of mandatory budget cuts known as sequester. The military already is cutting tens of billions from its budget projections over the next decade, but the sequester made the cutbacks even deeper. Sequester supporters argue that the mandatory cuts are critical to getting the nation's debt and deficits under control.
Regardless, Hagel laid out the details of the plan for his Pentagon staff, which was announced in broad terms last summer.
"Much of these savings will be achieved through contractor reductions, although there will be reductions in civilian personnel," Hagel said. "Ultimately other headquarters elements will be implementing similar" cuts.
The plan is part of a larger proposal to reorganize his staff and trim the budgets of various civilian defense headquarters.   http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/12/04/hagel-announces-1b-in-pentagon-staff-cutbacks-amid-budget-talks/
We've been told so many times that if you increase government spending, you help improve the economy.  Food stamp spending helps the economy, when we had a government shut down, the economy was suppose to suffer, the sequestration hurt the economy but when it comes to cutting spending in the military, I guess to liberals, the hurting the economy doesn't matter.

NASCAR Victory Lap Not For Vegas Locals

Tomorrow, NASCAR is holding their Victory Lap on the Las Vegas Strip, but apparently, they really don't care if Las Vegas locals are there or not.
From the LVRJ: NASCAR Victory Lap from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the Strip. The Chase drivers will start and finish the parade in front of the Miracle Mile Shops. http://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/nascar-champions-week-features-several-events-fans
A 2:45 start?  Well, that leaves anybody who works the day or evening shift in Las Vegas out.  It also leaves the vast majority of kids who may want to see the parade of cars out as most kids get out of school around 2:00 and would have a very difficult time getting down to the Strip.
In previous years, they started much later and the show they attend started right after the parade.  Now, they have 1 1/2 hours between the parade and their show.
I used to support NASCAR coming to Las Vegas in December, but if they are not going to make it Las Vegas fan friendly, then screw them.

Senile/Coward/Liar Reid Hypocrisy

From Fox News:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is allowing some staffers to keep their health insurance instead of making them buy it through an ObamaCare exchange, although he was one of the strongest Capitol Hill supporters of the 2010 law.
The Nevada Democrat is exercising his discretion under the president’s signature law to designate which staffers can keep their federal insurance plan and which must now purchase a policy through the District of Columbia’s health-care exchange.
However, he purportedly is the only top congressional leader to exercise that option, which resulted in sharp criticism Wednesday from Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, perhaps the staunchest ObamaCare opponent on the Hill.
"Sen. Reid's decision to exempt his staff … is the clearest example yet of ObamaCare's failures and Washington hypocrisy,” he said. “His staff worked to pass it and continue to promote it, now they don't want to be part of it because it's a disaster.”
The distinction is between personnel staff, forced onto the exchange, and leadership and committee staff, who are allowed to keep their federal plan.
However, drawing a distinction is difficult because some duties overlap,” a Reid staffer told Fox News.
The staffer could not give a breakdown. But Reid is going on the exchange and says he is happy with its options.
An amendment to ObamaCare by Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley forced staffers onto the exchanges, but additional changes allow for some flexibility. Still, the final rules, put forth by the Office of Personnel Management, leave some discretion with the lawmaker.
“The only fair path forward is to repeal ObamaCare, in its entirety, for everyone," Cruz added.  http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/12/04/reid-exempts-some-staff-from-having-to-buy-insurance-on-obamacare-exchange/
Deep down, Reid knows ObamaCare is a disaster and he doesn't want to subject his slimy workers to ObamaCare, so he becomes a huge hypocrite, or in Reid's world, acting normally.

Media Bias

From the Denver Post: Seeking to regroup from his health care law's disastrous rollout, President Barack Obama on Tuesday insisted that the sweeping overhaul is working and warned Republican critics that he would fight any efforts to strip away its protections.
"We're not repealing it as long as I'm president," Obama said during a health care event at the White House. "If I have to fight another three years to make sure this law works, then that's what I'll do." Earlier Tuesday, the administration released a 50-state report saying that nearly 1.5 million people were found eligible for Medicaid during October. As website problems depressed sign-ups for subsidized private coverage, that safety-net program for low-income people saw a nearly 16 percent increase in states that have agreed to expand it, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

Gee, why would the media ask Obama if the web site is working?  How about checking the web site themselves?
And do you think Obama would tell them the truth after all the lies he has told about ObamaCare?
Obama is the biggest liar in presidential history.  He makes Richard Nixon look like a choir boy, a priest, a person on truth serum and a person who die if they told a lie.
Obama says he will fight for 3 years for the law... Ok... if the law turns out to be a horrible idea, Obama will still defend it.
Obama is just a POS who doesn't care about what happens to the people he has hurt, he just cares about himself and no one else.
He doesn't care that millions have lost their insurance, lost their jobs, had their hours cut because it's all about him.
He truly is:

Interesting

From Philly.com:
Just days after Pope Francis revealed to parishioners he used to work as a nightclub bouncer, reports have surfaced claiming he may actually sneak out of Vatican City and mingle with the homeless and hungry poor of Rome.

Francis takes to the streets of Rome at night under the guise of a priest — the regular, non-pontiff kind — and administers to the homeless, according to
a report from The Huffington Post.
The outlet quoted "a knowledgeable source in Rome" as saying, "Swiss guards confirmed that the pope has ventured out at night, dressed as a regular priest, to meet with homeless men and women."
The possibility of the pope's incognito nocturnal outings was raised last week during an interview with Archbishop Konrad Krajewski. The Vatican Almoner, tasked with distributing church funds to the poor, told a group of Vatican correspondents Francis encouraged him to be more proactive in taking to the streets to find those in need - and was often eager to accompany him.

“When I say to him ‘I’m going out into the city this evening,’ there’s the constant risk that he will come with me," Krajewski said, according to The Irish Independent. "That's what he's like – at the beginning [of his papacy] he didn't think of the awkwardness that he might create." When asked directly if the pope ever joined him, Krajewski reportedly smiled and simply said, “Next question, please.”
It almost seems like the new Pope is going out of his way to act normal despite his position.
It also seems like he is putting himself in danger with all the crazies out there who would love to kill a world leader... like a terrorist Muslim.

Sick

From the New York Daily News:
Days after the horrific death of actor Paul Walker, the ghouls are already coming out of the woodwork.
The Westboro Baptist Church, the controversial religious sect best known for protesting at military funeral with hate-filled, anti-gay messages, announced Monday that it will picket the "Fast & Furious" star's funeral.
"Paul served himself & the gods of this world (money, fame, excess of riot, etc.) while refusing to serve His Creator & use his platform, to encourage his neighbors to do the same," a rep for the hate-mongering group tweeted.
"He's in Hell & Westboro will #PicketFuneral."
As a number of angry fans tweeted back, Walker earned a reputation for using his celebrity to do charity work, including the organization he founded, Reach Out Worldwide, which provides relief to areas struck by natural disasters around the world.
The Topeka, Kan.-based Westboro Baptist Church was founded by hate-mongering pastor Fred Phelps in 1955 and rose to notoriety after picketing the funeral of murdered college student Matthew Shepard, who was beaten to death in 1998 because he was gay.
Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/westboro-baptist-church-vows-picket-paul-walker-funeral-article-1.1536041#ixzz2mUe8KjRk
The Westboro clan is sick.  It's wrong to call them a church because they really are not, it's just a bunch of family members who decide they want publicity.
Hopefully, a bunch of motorcycle clubs will be right in front of the clan and drown any protest they may have, like they have done with military funerals.

Overthrow The U.S. Government?

From Mediate.com: During a congressional committee hearing about the constitutional limits imposed on the presidency and the implications of President Barack Obama’s disregard for implementing the Affordable Care Act as written, one expert testified that the consequences of the president’s behavior were potentially grave. He said that the precedent set by Obama could eventually lead to an armed revolt against the federal government.
On Tuesday, Michael Cannon, Cato Institute’s Director of Health Policy Studies, testified before a congressional committee about the dangers of the president’s legal behavior.

“There is one last thing to which the people can resort if the government does not respect the restrains that the constitution places on the government,” Cannon said. “Abraham Lincoln talked about our right to alter our government or our revolutionary right to overthrow it.”
“That is certainly something that no one wants to contemplate,” he continued. “If the people come to believe that the government is no longer constrained by the laws then they will conclude that neither are they.”
“That is a very dangerous sort of thing for the president to do, to wantonly ignore the laws,” Cannon concluded, “to try to impose obligation upon people that the legislature did not approve.”  http://www.mediaite.com/tv/expert-testifies-to-congress-that-obamas-ignoring-laws-could-lead-to-overthrow-of-government/
One thing that pretty much would guarantee an armed revolt is if President Obama would try and run for a third term, like some liberals have suggested.  I don't think he would be stupid enough to do so, but the idea is out there.
Of course, Hillary Clinton would throw a major league hissy fit.

Weather Forecasters Blow Another One

Today, we had a slight chance of showers as a cold front is blowing through the area, according to the weather forecasters.
Well, it is raining...with some snow mixed in.  This is in Henderson by the I-215 and Stephanie.
How bad of a weather forecaster do you have to be to be assigned to Las Vegas.  300 days a year or so, it's sunny with no rain- you can't screw that up, but the Las Vegas forecasters usually do when it comes to rain.

Good Bye

From the Detroit Free Press:
For Cile Precetaj of Troy, an Albanian immigrant with three American children, the last 24 hours have been a nightmare.
Come 10:30 a.m. today, the 40-year-old married mother of three has to report for deportation at Detroit Metro Airport — an event she has had little time to prepare for.
She got 24 hours’ notice.
According to her family and attorney, U.S. authorities sprang the deportation notice on Precetaj on Monday morning. It was brief: Report at 10:30 a.m. at the McNamara terminal, departures level, near the elevators.
“In my experience, I’ve never seen it. ... I’ve never seen them deport a female who has children,” said New York immigration attorney Andrew Johnson, who is in a race against time to save his client from deportation. “No one can believe that this is actually occurring.”
The woman’s husband is especially baffled.
“We’re hoping for a miracle,” Pjetero (Pete) Gojcevic, told the Free Press on Monday night.
The U.S. Immigrations Customs and Enforcement said it would comment on the case today....
Precetaj, who was born in Albania in 1972, fled to the U.S. in 2000 to escape an abusive fiancé and a criminal atmosphere, testifying that she was unable to go outside for fear of being kidnapped and sold into prostitution. She entered the U.S. illegally via Canada at the Port Huron border with friends. Upon arrival, she turned herself into authorities and sought asylum.
While living in the U.S. illegally, she got married and raised a family. She worked at various restaurants in the kitchen. And teachers praised her as a good mother who had a positive influence on her children’s performance in school.
But despite her appeal for asylum, an immigration judge denied her request, concluding her testimony about fearing prostitution and crime lacked credibility. And even if it was credible, the judge held, she wasn’t entitled to asylum because “young, attractive women are not a social group for asylum.” In 2008, the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld that decision.
http://www.freep.com/article/20131203/NEWS01/312030031/Mom-deported-Albania
Sorry, but she was here illegally and her main problem was that she was Hispanic, so she gets deported.

Iceland Police Kill First Person

Wow, in Las Vegas, this happens about every 3 months.
From the New York Daily News:Police in Iceland said Monday they shot dead a gunman — the first time armed police have killed someone in the nation.
Iceland, which has a tiny population of around 320,000, has a low crime rate and gun violence is extremely rare. Its regular police force does not carry firearms.
Haraldur Johannessen, National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, said Monday’s incident was unprecedented.
Police said officers were called to an apartment in the Reykjavik suburb of Arbaer early Monday when a man fired a shotgun from inside the flat. Two policemen, who were not armed, were shot at when trying to enter the gunman’s apartment.
Witnesses told local media that a smoke bomb was thrown into the apartment through a broken window in efforts to subdue the man. A special armed unit then entered and fired at the man, who was rushed to the hospital, where he died. No one else has been injured.
“All available members of the police force were deployed, and they tried to subdue him, but it was not successful,” Reykjavik Metropolitan Police Commissioner Stefan Eiriksson told a press conference, according to local media website Visir. “The man began to shoot out the window of the apartment and it was decided to take action.”
The motives of the man, who has not been named, are unclear. According to RUV, Iceland’s national television station, the gunman was a man in his fifties and had been making threats to his neighbors.
Shotguns for hunting are legal in Iceland. Many Icelanders believe that the country rarely sees gun violence in part because handguns are banned.

Huge Winter Storm Hitting Western U.S.

The pinks are winter storm warnings, the blues are winter weather advisories.
Damn that global warming.

That's Cold

From the LVRJ: A woman charged with killing a fellow Alabama fan after the end of last weekend’s Iron Bowl football game was angry that the victim and others didn’t seem upset over the Crimson Tide’s loss to archrival Auburn, said the sister of the slain woman.
Adrian Laroze Briskey, 28, was charged Monday with murder in the killing of 36-year-old Michelle Shepherd.
Hoover police Capt. Jim Coker said both Birmingham women were Alabama fans and at the same party for the annual game between intrastate rivals. With no time left on the clock, Auburn returned a missed Crimson Tide field goal more than 100 yards for a 34-28 victory, dashing any hopes of Alabama playing for a third straight national championship.
The victim’s sister, Nekesa Shepherd, said she witnessed the killing and had no doubt it was about football, even though it was unclear to investigators whether the violence was motivated by the game.
“That’s one of the things we are investigating,” Coker said Monday.
Nekesa Shepherd said Briskey flew into a rage when she saw the sisters and others joking that the Crimson Tide’s loss wasn’t as bad as if the NBA’s Miami Heat had lost a game.
“She said we weren’t real Alabama fans because it didn’t bother us that they lost. And then she started shooting,” Shepherd told The Associated Press.  http://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/sister-bama-fan-shot-because-she-wasnt-bothered-loss
If true, they have to realize this simple fact... it's just a football game, it's not the end of the world... unless you bet your life savings on Alabama.

Obama Fact Checked: Shock, He Lied

From Fox News: Is President Obama’s latest health care promise – that his plan will offer “most” people a better plan for the same price or less than their current policy – actually true?
Some analysts say no.
"That’s not an accurate argument," says Avik Roy of the Manhattan Institute. "If your plan is now covering a bunch of things that you don’t need, then how is it a better plan for you?"
Former Congressional Budget Office Director Doug Holtz-Eakin says there's no evidence to support the president's claim.
"You can do the math," he says. "Most of the policies in his claim could spend more, cover more things, provide more visits and charge less." But, he concludes, "the arithmetic just does not work."
Obama’s remarks last month were an effort to deflect criticism for having earlier promised that people could keep their plans and doctors no matter what.
"Most people, he said, "will be able to buy better plans for the same price or even cheaper than what they've gotten before."
A few days after that promise, the president appeared to downgrade the pledge somewhat, saying only that "there's a good chance that they'll be able to buy better insurance at lower cost."
The promise that "most people" would be better off is sharply disputed by many, including a number of individuals experiencing sticker shock, including those with pre-existing conditions.
They include Tom Gialanella of Seattle, who had a policy that was renewed for years even after he had cancer -- not the kind of sub-standard policy the president likes to criticize.
But he says his new policy under ObamaCare "went from $891 a month to $1,437 a month and also my deductibles all doubled."
Andrew Leonard recently told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren that he "would get the terrible, terrible plan with the $6,000 deductible." As far as the premiums are concerned, he said, " I'll pay $1,200 dollars a year for that and I'll be less insured than I am today."
Analysts say those whose policies are canceled will get new coverage, but not at lower prices.
"What we're seeing is that the new ObamaCare plans typically have higher deductibles than the old plans did," says Roy, along with "a narrower choice of doctors and hospitals and yet higher premiums."  http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/12/02/fact-check-is-president-obama-latest-health-care-promise-true/
Common sense says that if you are forced to cover more health insurance items, your prices are not going to go down, they are going to go up.
For instance, if you are a gay married male, why would you need maternity care in your insurance?  And pay for mammograms?
Why should women have to pay for male health problems?
You can say that large insurance groups do this already but the major difference is that before ObamaCare, you weren't forced to buy these insurance plans.  Under ObamaCare, you are now forced to buy the insurance or pay a fine, which many people will opt to do.
Yes, there were problems with health care for some people but ObamaCare decided to amputate an arm and a leg to cure  headache and there is no denying that.

False Story Of The Week

From the Las Vegas Sun: Health officials said Saturday they're investigating whether a contagious stomach virus is the cause of an outbreak that has sickened dozens of players, coaches and parents taking part in a youth football tournament in Las Vegas.
Southern Nevada Health District spokesman Jorge Viote said his agency is interviewing the sick and taking samples from them as part of an investigation to pinpoint the cause of the outbreak.
But he said the flu-like symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea are consistent with norovirus, a mostly food- or water-borne illness that can also be spread by an infected person.
"That's why we're advising people to wash hands and take other precautions," Viote told The Associated Press. "It can spread if people don't take precautions."  http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/dec/01/us-sick-kids-vegas/?utm_source=mostpopular&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=mostRead
What happened is that a bunch of kids came to Las Vegas from California, Colorado and other states and some of those kids came sick.
They then spread their illness to other people and a bunch of people became panicked.
Last Tuesday night and Wednesday, I had a nasty case of the flu- same symptoms as the kids and adults at the  Rio, but I didn't blame anybody or a building.
It's flu season, but every media outlet is somehow trying to link the Rio and the illness and making it look like the Rio was at fault.
Well, they were not.
But, of course, the little kids who brought the illness to Las Vegas could not be the fault, could they?  At least not to their parents, their little darling could not be at fault, so blame the Rio.
Just another false story by the media.

Or It Could Be Staged

From CSM: Heckling politicians is as old as the hills, but when a young man standing behind President Obama began shouting at him during an event Monday, that seemed especially noteworthy.
After all, the man – a 24-year-old undocumented immigrant from South Korea named Ju Hong – was invited by the White House to stand there as part of the “human wallpaper” often seen at presidential events.
And yet even, or maybe especially, in that privileged spot, Mr. Hong felt compelled to interrupt Mr. Obama’s scripted remarks on immigration and call on the president to stop deportations. Obama waved off the Secret Service, which was moving to escort Hong from the room, and addressed his complaint – denying he could use his executive power to halt deportations.  http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/DC-Decoder/2013/1130/Why-people-feel-free-to-heckle-President-Obama-video
President Obama may not be smart about real world things, but he and his political allies are very smart when it comes to politics.
Remember when they staged the fake fainting?  And when the media started calling him on it, the fainting stopped?
So, I am pretty sure that most of the heckling by the left is staged, especially this last time- it allowed Obama to talk about immigration and make his point that he needed to pass a law and couldn't do it by executive order.
It looked too planned out.
So, Obama may be heckled, but it is done by the left and I am sure many of the times, it was planned.

What A Shame

From the Courier Post Online: A Camden convent where cloistered nuns have served God for more than 100 years will soon close its doors.
The Monastery of the Dominican Nuns of the Perpetual Rosary will host a farewell ceremony Dec. 9. A formal announcement is expected Monday.
Peter Feuerherd, spokesman for the Camden Diocese, confirmed the closure Friday. He said the decline in the numbers of worshipping nuns ultimately led to the decision.
In the 1970s, the convent boasted 20 nuns who lived a life dedicated to God and alternated shifts saying the rosary 24 hours a day. By the turn of the century, the chapter was down to seven sisters. Feuerherd estimated there are now three or four nuns, but he was out of the office and unable to provide specifics.
“The diocese is always interested in keeping alive the vision of contemplative life,” he said. “We realize the lack of vocations to the monastic life made it impossible for this community to continue as is in Camden.”
The remaining nuns are expected to move to a similar Dominican community in Elmira, N.Y.
The spokesman added that a small community formed around the nuns regularly attended Mass at the building’s chapel, but he noted it was not a formal parish. http://www.courierpostonline.com/article/20131130/NEWS21/311300038/Shrinking-Camden-convent-will-shut-its-doors?nclick_check=1
I understand why they closed but it is still sad that after 100 years, they could not sustain their community.

His Football Career Is Over

From the New York Daily News:
Jonathan Martin’s season is officially over.
The Miami Dolphins put the troubled offensive tackle on the reserve/non-football illness list Saturday, freeing up his roster spot so safety D.J. Campbell could be promoted from the team’s practice squad.
The move was not unexpected. Martin left the Dolphins on Oct. 28, the start of what became an explosive probe into allegations that a culture of bullying was around the team and inside its locker room.
Offensive lineman Richie Incognito was suspended Nov. 3 for his alleged role in the turmoil. Media reports Friday said the Dolphins and Incognito agreed to extend his suspension past the four-week window typically allowed by league rule, and that Incognito would resume getting paid.

While I am not a fan of bullying, it is also apparent that Martin is not a team player and is not tough mentally- something you have to be in the NFL.
Martin also showed he could dish out crap but could not take it.
My guess is that Martin will never play NFL football again and in the meantime, will lose millions of dollars over the length of his possible career which could have been many years.

Talk About A Bad Beat

Wow, what an end to the Alabama-Auburn game, when Alabama tried to a 57 yard field goal when time ran out.
They missed, short and the Auburn kick returner returned the missed field goal 109 yards for thetouchdown and the win.
If you had Alabama, what a bad beat.

The LVRJ Rip Off

The Las Vegas Review Journal states that it's Monday thru Saturday paper is $1 and Sunday's paper is $3.
Except, apparently, on Thanksgiving Day, a Thursday, where they charged $3 for the paper.
Did they print more news?  Nope.
Did they print additional sections?  Nope.
So, if you bought the paper, you paid for the advertisements, which were already paid for by the advertisers.
What a rip off, LVRJ.

Yep

Obama Lies so Far

ObamaCare Site Still Down

From Heralthcare.gov:
Improving HealthCare.gov
The Health Insurance Marketplace online application isn't available from approximately 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. EST daily while we make improvements. Additional down times may be possible as we work to make things better. The rest of the site and the Marketplace call center remain available during these hours.  https://www.healthcare.gov/
Can you imagine if Amazon, Wal-Mart.com, E-Bay and other huge web sites went down 4 hours a day?  People would be fired and they would be laughed at.
In addition, when the web site isn't that secure, federal employees you may have to deal with may be convicted felons and other major problems why would anyone want to deal ObmaCare?

UNLV Wins 7th Game, Will Go To A Bowl

Even though they played before a very pathetic audience, less than 20,000 people, the UNLV Running Rebels defeated San Diego State 45-19.
From the LVRJ: If UNLV ever was going to make a statement to the various bowl committees, Saturday was the time to do it.
And did the Rebels ever speak so loudly with their actions.
They dominated the Mountain West’s hottest football team, with quarterback Caleb Herring and wide receiver Devante Davis tying school touchdown records and the Rebels rolling through San Diego State 45-19 at Sam Boyd Stadium.
But will this performance be enough to impress the bowls? UNLV will have a long week to wait before finding out Dec. 8.
“We have a lot of work to do,” Rebels interim athletic director Tina Kunzer-Murphy said before the game. “We started calling (Friday).”
The Rebels’ quest was to play in their first bowl since 2000 was complicated by San Jose State’s 62-52 upset victory over Fresno State on Friday and Colorado State’s 58-13 rout of Air Force on Saturday. Those victories gave the Mountain West seven eligible teams for six bowl slots.
So the Rebels (7-5, 5-3 MW) could get left out of the mix, but their chances improve if the conference can find a place for Boise State — the Mountain West’s marquee national name — in a non-affiliated bowl.
Otherwise, UNLV must hope to land in the Hawaii Bowl on Dec. 24 in Honolulu, the New Mexico Bowl on Dec. 21 in Albuquerque, or the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Dec. 21 in Boise.
Working against the Rebels is their lack of ability to draw strong crowds and their lack of tradition.   http://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/rebels-blow-out-san-diego-state-statement-win
One hopes that the Rebels will get a bowl bid, but when you only draw 20,000 or fewer fans on Senior night, the last home game of the season and the stadium looked deserted at the beginning of the 4th quarter, does UNLV deserve a bowl bid?  The football team does, the college and it's fans do not.
