From the stuff.nz: A Chinese recovery team works with members of New Zealand Urban Search and Rescue to carry a body from the Canterbury TV site.
The death toll from Christchurch 6.3-magnitude quake has risen to 145, and will continue to rise, say police.
District Commander Superintendent Dave Cliff said the number of people missing remained more than 200.
Each dead person's family had been assigned a police officer to liaise with them, he said.
There had been two meetings with families today - one for international families and one for local families.
Cliff said people had been "very badly hurt" and visual identification by family members would consequently not work.
He said there continued to be a problem with too many people on the roads and residents were asked to defer all non-essential travel.
Cliff thanked his staff for their tireless efforts saying the biggest problem with local police officers was "getting them to go home".
A Fire Service spokesman said there had been no live rescues today.
Work in the ChristChurch Cathedral had been hampered by continuing aftershocks.
A plan had been made to stabilise the Grand Chancellor Hotel which continued to teeter in the central CBD, he said.
Crews from eight countries had joined the urban search and rescue operation and in terms of resources "we want for nothing".
Orion chief executive Roger Sutton said 82 per cent of Christchurch now had power. The company was fast-tracking an overhead line to provide power to further areas.
Representatives from the Australian Police talked about being "humbled" by a standing ovation the 300 officers received when they arrived at Christchurch Airport.

Compare the situation the crisis in Christchurch and the earthquake in Haiti. The Haitian government, if there is one, is demanding money from the U.S. and other gullible countries so they can pull through their earthquake from over a year ago.
New Zealand and Christchurch? They appreciate the help from the countries that supplied search and rescue. But beyond that, they are not demanding anything from other nations. Bill Climton and George Bush have not done PSA's for Christchurch and I doubt they ever will. The New Zealand people are tough people. The people from Haiti? Not so much. The Haiti people are like M8ike Tyson fighting his last 3 opponents. Lot's of hype but no show and little self defense.
So, give your prayers to Christchurch, New Zealand. Give your prayers to the people from Haiti. Just emphasise in your prayers that the people of Haiti become more self sufficient.
