$4,500,000 For A New Fire Station?

The $4.5 million fire station is being built with money designated for a station in Kyle Canyon. When development in that area stopped, the money was moved to the Summerlin project.
Equipment and staffing for the new station will come from existing facilities, without requiring any additional funds, Myers said. The land for the station was donated to the city by the community, which had to shift one of the tees at the golf course to make room.

So, the City of Las Vegas is building a $4,500,000 fire station on land that was donated along with the equipment that came from other stations.
A fire station needs a garage area with two bays, a sleeping room, regular sized kitchen, TV room, 2 bathrooms and shower facilities, small classroom, maybe a workout room if they have stopped working out at the local gyms, and a equipment and utility room. Everything else is a luxury.
I am sure they can build the station for much, much less, but hey, after all, it's just taxpayer money. They don't have to build it fancy on the outside. In Henderson, they have fire stations in ritzy areas and they are certainly not the best looking building in the area and I don't think spent anywhere near $4,500,000.
But again, it's just taxpayer money.
