Did He Really Do That?

Watching the Super Bowl half time show with some guy named Justin Timberlake.
I don't know his songs because he's not my type of singer.
He did a duet with the dead singer from Minneapolis, Prince.
The last line of the song they sang "I'll die for you".
Really? Prince died for me/us?
I thought he died of a drug overdose, accidentally.
He never said he died for mankind.
Instead have missed that in the news.
