So, Why Was She Charged?

From the Las Vegas Sun: Police in Las Vegas say a 29-year-old woman admitted stabbing her boyfriend during a fatal argument about him staying out late.
A police report made public Wednesday identifies the dead man as Johnny Dewayne Sheffield and says he died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. He was found about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in a nearby apartment with a single stab wound to the chest.
Police say Chamel Monique Smith told investigators that Sheffield kicked in their apartment door and she stabbed Sheffield during a physical argument about him staying out late just days after Smith suffered a miscarriage of their baby.
Smith is being held at the Clark County jail pending an initial court appearance on a felony murder charge.

Unless there is something more to this story, one has to wonder why this woman was charged with murder.
The dead thug kicks down their door and then attacks the woman. This seems like self defense, unless there is something the cops are not reporting.
My tears are not for the dead thug, that's for sure.

  1. The dead thug that you speak of has family and friends and because he was killed his side of the story will never be told. Has it been verified if she ever was even pregnant? Obviously their was reason to suspect foul play if she was arrested and charged. Get the facts straight before you slander someones name especially the deceased.

  2. When someone breaks down a door to go after the person inside, that person is a thug.
It doesn't matter if she was pregnant or not and I did not write anything about it, the newspaper did.
There maybe more to the story, but the article makes no mention of it.
Metro has arrested people after such incidents and then release them without any charges.
If the killer was a middle aged rich white woman, or a blonde bimbo, do you think they would have thrown her in jail?
Finally, the prosecution will tell the side of the dead person, along with the coroner.

  4. Update, Chamel Smith pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, which is probably the weakest murder charge out there. She was given a suspended sentence of 4 years, meaning she won't time in prison.
My guess she took the plea bargain just to avoid the trial in which a jury might convict her of murder.
