From the Washington Examiner: Apparently, even people disabled while serving the United States in
the war in Afghanistan won't be spared "extra screening" by
Transpiration Security Administration (TSA) officials at airports.
"Afghan War vet, maybe 20 y[ea]rs old, in wh[ee]lchair, no legs,
shrapnel scars on arms--forced [to] lean on each side, do extra
screening," radio host Laura Ingraham tweeted this afternoon. She noted that TSA officials at Baltimore Washington International Airport conducted the screening around 8:50 am today.

Yep, that TSA is saving us from terror suspects like this gentleman, nuns, toddlers and old men and women. What a pathetic Federal agency that is is run by the Obama administration.

Thank You NASCAR For Tribute To Carroll Shelby
Tonight, NASCAR had a moment of silence for Carroll Shelby, one of life's most interesting men, who passed away on Friday.
Shelby had a huge impact in the Las Vegas Motor Speedway area. He had garages set up out there and he has sponsored many NASCAR events, including the NASCAR Sprint race up until this past race.
From ESPN: Nothing to worry about. Carroll Shelby cannot die.
If he could, he would have been dead for 50 or 60 or 70 years by now. He's had heart problems since age 7. He had a transplant in 1990, maybe five years before our little excursion here.
Whomp! The Viper takes a set, and we pull some G's, but Shelby still hasn't looked away from me and he's still pouring profanity, telling his stories.
Back in the pits, I, in my 40s, feel certain that Carroll Hall Shelby, at that point in his 70s, will easily outlive me.
Well, I'll be damned.
Carroll Shelby died Thursday, May 10, 2012.
He was 89. He lived 82 of those years with heart trouble, the last 22 with a transplant. He had lived wide open, full of piss and vinegar all the way.
I'll be damned. Toughest SOB of a genius I've ever known

More Support For Yucca Mountain
Surprisingly, the Pahrump Valley Times has put forth an editorial supporting reopening Yucca Mountain to receive used nuclear rods from nuclear power plants.
From the PVT:: It’s almost as hard to believe that people in Las Vegas are still willing to embrace that misbegotten nuclear glory of the 1950s, yet the same crowd will shriek like little girls when it comes to discussing Yucca Mountain.
Yucca is like a nuclear hot potato with nails driven into it, each spike representing a different politician with a different viewpoint as to what should be done with that big hole in the mountain northwest of here.
To hear some people talk, the idea behind Yucca is to pour every other state’s nuclear waste directly into Las Vegas’ water supply. That isn’t the case.
The repository is meant to be a permanent storage facility for spent nuclear fuel rods. For all intents and purposes it is expected to be the safest way yet discovered to dispose of such waste. Billions and billions of dollars in taxpayer money has already been spent building this facility. States from Washington to South Carolina to Illinois are growing more and more impatient waiting for a place they’ve long been told will one day alleviate their aging, cramped waste storage facilities. The licensing process for Yucca — essentially the study to determine its true value as a safe place to store waste — was booby trapped by our own congressional delegation in Washington, D.C.
And now a trio of federal judges is deciding whether the law mandating Yucca was violated and whether the licensing process should be restarted.
We say yes to Yucca, or at least yes to restarting the licensing process. The thought of spending billions and billions of dollars on a hole in a mountain and then not finishing the work required to determine whether the darn thing is safe or not seems stupid.
Politics be damned. We don’t care why Nevada was chosen over Texas or Washington or New Mexico or anywhere else. Nevada is desolation defined and its history of nuclear testing seems to make it ideal for what Yucca represents. If it’s not safe, then that’s a different story. Prove it and we will be the first to say, not in this backyard, buddy.
But what if it’s perfectly safe? What if Yucca is really the missing ingredient in Nevada’s potential evolution as the energy laboratory for the entire country? What about the jobs and economic benefits?
Public safety is certainly top priority, but what of meaningful economic diversification — a future for Nevadans that isn’t hitched to tourism and mining is a worthwhile goal. Yucca is the state’s best chance to kick diversification into high gear, particularly since everything else is suffering — education is dismal, housing is kaput, gaming is treading water, medicine isn’t anything to brag about, et cetera, et cetera. Thank God for the price of gold and for those boys in the silk suits with offices on the Strip, otherwise a nuclear waste dump might be the only reason to keep the state open for business.
In short, we agree that Yucca’s licensing should be finished. We believe that the debate about Yucca can’t even truly begin unless all parties can equally weigh the merits of Yucca’s safety, or lack thereof, as documented by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and its attendant advisory boards. Without the licensing process complete, everything else is just political talk and hand wringing.
The complicated politics of it all is above us simple folks in Nye County. We don’t care how Nevada figures into Obama’s re-election campaign, or what Sen. Harry Reid promised years ago about killing Yucca dead.
All we know is that with Yucca, the potential economic benefits to Nye County glow brighter than an atomized Pacific atoll.
Without it, we just have another empty hole in a mountain to look at, albeit a very expensive hole.
http://pvtimes.com/news/editorial-board-obstacles-to-yucca-licensing-should-be-removed/
It is one of the more intelligent things to come out the PVT in some time and it puts forth an intelligent argument for Yucca Mountain. It certainly is better than many stupid politicians who think tourists will come to Las Vegas because of Yucca. And it is certainly smarter than anything old senile Coward Harry Reid has to say.
So, welcome PVT to the real world.

Knucklehead
Las Vegas's Bryce Harper found out last night that is not very smart to swing a bat at a wall.
From ESPN: The only downside was an ill-advised swing by their frustrated 19-year-old outfielder. Bryce Harper had a rough night, going 0 for 5 with three strikeouts. After one of the outs, he returned to the dugout and took a frustrated whack at one of the walls in the tunnel to the clubhouse.
Johnson said the barrel of the bat bounced off the wall and hit Harper next to the left eye, causing a gash that, according to the Washington Times, required 10 stitches to close and a welt. He stayed in the game with it bandaged, but was sent for treatment afterward because it was bleeding."I just got caught up in the moment," Harper told the Times. "I want to do so well. It just got me."Johnson said Harper likely would miss some time, but Harper said the opposite after the game."I think I'm good," Harper told the Times. "(The) doctor said I could play, so I'm going to play." http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=320511117
Apparently, they did not teach Harper over at Bishop Gorman and the minor leagues that a cement wall is not the same as a baseball.
What a knucklehead, but he will still be a good ball player.

Congress Report On Fast and Furious
From the El Paso Times: Firearms connected to Operation Fast and Furious were used in the 2010 slaying of the brother of the former Chihuahua state attorney general, according to a U.S. congressional report. The
report said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
traced two of the weapons suspected in the murder of lawyer Mario
González Rodríguez, but did not report this fact to the Mexican
government until eight months after the tracing.
The joint congressional staff report "The Department of Justice's Operation Fast and Furious: Fueling Cartel Violence" was prepared for U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, and U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., two lawmakers who are spearheading an ongoing investigation into the ATF's controversial operation.
"On October 21, 2010, drug cartel members kidnapped Mario González Rodríguez from his office," according to the 2011 congressional report. "At the time of the kidnapping, his sister Patricia González Rodríguez was the attorney general of the state of Chihuahua."
Mexican officials said Patricia González Rodríguez was already on her way out because the new governor had been installed and a new state prosecutor was going to be appointed.
"A few days after the kidnapping," the congressional report said, " a video surfaced on the Internet in which Mario González Rodríguez sat handcuffed, surrounded by five heavily armed men wearing masks, dressed in camouflage and bullet-proof vest."...Then, Mexican federal authorities, following a shootout with drug cartel suspects, seized 16 weapons and arrested eight men in connection with Mario González Rodríguez's murder.
Mexican officials submitted information about the weapons to the ATF's e-trace system, and the ATF traced two AK-47s to Operation Fast and Furious. The congressional report said that an ATF email indicated that ATF officials in Phoenix who knew the two assault rifles came from the controversial operation withheld the information from Mexican officials until June 2011.
In congressional testimony, Carlos Canino, the ATF's acting U.S. attaché in Mexico, said he's the one who finally notified Mexican federal Attorney General Marisela Morales about the weapons-tracing and their link to the death of Mario González Rodríguez.
The report said Morales was shocked and remarked, "Hijole!," which the report said translates into "Oh, my."
Canino feared an international incident might break out with Mexico if the information leaked out to the news media instead of being sent through government channels. He told U.S. lawmakers that he did not want to undermine the trust that U.S. law enforcement had developed with their Mexican counterparts in the war against the drug cartels....Weapons traced back to the operation have been recovered in eight Mexican states and in Mexico City, and most of them were destined for the Sinaloa drug cartel led by Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán, the congressional report said.
And, at least eight Fast and Furious-connected weapons were recovered at crime scenes in Juárez and four in Chihuahua City between 2010 and 2011.
The Sinaloa cartel has been waging a bloody battle against the Carrillo Fuentes organization that's killed nearly 9,500 people in Juárez alone since 2008.
On Jan. 13, 2010, the El Paso Police Department seized 40 rifles on the East Side that the congressional report said were connected to Fast and Furious. Weapons connected to the operation also were recovered in Columbus, N.M.
The number of Fast and Furious weapons found at Mexican crime scenes could be higher because the information provided to congressional investigators remains incomplete, the report said.

Again, please remember that one of the guns in Fast and Furious was used to kill Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry:

Please tell me once again why Eric Holder and members of the ATF are still not in jail and President Obama has not been impeached because of Fast and Furious?

This Just Won't Work In The United States
Natalia Juarez is a liberal candidate for the Mexican Congress and is running and is a member of the Democratic Revolution Party. She is drawing attention for her looks instead of her abilities (kind of like Danica Patrick?) because she is appearing commercials topless with other women.
From the Atlanta Journal Constitution: Social networking sites are buzzing with debate over a Mexican congressional candidate who released a campaign poster showing herself topless.
Candidate Natalia Juarez says the poster is intended to fight prejudices.
Twitter user Camila Deborarte tweeted "I'd vote for her." But Itzel Garcia responded, "What a shame! Even this way, she has to call attention to herself."
Juarez is running on the ticket of the leftist Democratic Revolution Party. She is shown on the poster along with six other women, all of whom are seen covering their breasts with their left hands. Some are raising their right fists.
http://www.ajc.com/news/nation-world/mexican-topless-candidate-sparks-1434402.html
I just don't think this will work in the U.S. When I think about topless females in politics, I am horrified of the thought that the people baring all would be people like Shelly Berkley, Nancy Pelosi or Sharron Angle and not candidates like Juarez.

What About Obama's High School Days?
The liberal media
machine are all over Mitt Romney about his high school days in which
he, like most high school kids, acted like a goof and maybe even a
little bit of a bully. But what about President Obama? From
Breitbart:
Obama, by all accounts, was a habitual drug user in high school. He tried cocaine, he admits in Dreams From My Father; he “tried drugs enthusiastically.” The Chicago Tribune
reported back in 2007 that Obama thanked the “Choom Gang” in his high
school yearbook; “chooming” was Hawaiian slang for smoking pot. The Honolulu Advertiserreported
that Obama’s senior portrait “prominently displayed … A
package of ‘Zig-Zag’ rolling papers and a matchbook.” One of Obama’s
close friends was arrested for drug possession during high school. In
his memoir, Obama talked about routinely getting high. “Junkie.
Pothead,” he wrote. “That’s where I’d been headed: the final, fatal
role of the young would-be black man.” But, according to Obama, he only
got high because he was contemplating deep matters: drugs could “push
questions of who I was out of my mind.”
Obama told students
in 2007 that this activity constituted “goofing off” and “wasting
time”:"I will confess to you that I was kind
of a goof off in high school as my mom reminded me," Obama said. "I
went to high school in Hawaii, so there's a lot of opportunity to goof
off because the weather is really good all the time …
"You know, I made some bad decisions ….
You know, got into drinking and experimenting with drugs. There was a
whole stretch of time where I didn't apply myself. It wasn't until I
got out of … high school, and went to college that I started realizing,
man, I wasted a lot of time.”
http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2012/05/10/Obama-High-School-DrugsWell it appears that Mitt Romney has grown up and matured. And Obama? It seems like he still smokes pot by the way he acts and governs.
And let's about Obama's racism:
During his high school years, Obama hung out with communist radical Frank Marshall Davis; in 2007, the Los Angeles Times reported that during his high school days, “he felt the first stirrings of anger toward whites. He says he also delved into black nationalism.” He was “offended or even enraged when white classmates adopted black street slang or revealed their underlying consciousness of his race by going out of their way to tell him how much they admired a black musician or athlete.”
Well, I do understand Obama feeling uncomfortable when white people go out of heir way to patronize a black person. But anger or enraged? Maybe that is why he engages in class warfare.
But, in the end, one's high school days usually are not indicative of what a person is when they are adults. Most people get more mature and form their own opinions once they move out on their own.
Has Romney changed, clearly he has. Has Obama changed? I'm not too sure about that, but he probably has a little bit, but we really don't know because the media has done a very poor job vetting the man.
But one question, if Obama was smoking all that pot and he has admitted to using cocaine, how did he get off the drugs? Did he go to rehab or go cold turkey or is he still using? At least George Bush was up front about his days as a booze hound, he didn't hide it. Obama, on the other hand, just hides behind the lap dogs of the media.
Just another instance of media taking sides with the presidential candidates.
Las Vegas Sports Book Predict Perfect Season For the Packers and Patriots
From the Las Vegas Sun: Neither the New England Patriots nor the Green Bay Packers finished last season the way they wanted.
The New York Giants eliminated both teams from the NFL playoffs. The Patriots fell to the Giants, 21-17, in Super Bowl XLV. The Packers failed to win a game in the postseason, as the Giants soared past them, 37-20, in the NFC Divisional round.
Green Bay and New England have a golden opportunity to bounce back this year, however, according to one prominent Las Vegas sports book. Cantor Gaming lists the Packers and Patriots as favorites in every one of their games for the upcoming season.
Cantor released its full-season NFL lines to much fanfare Wednesday morning. It’s the fourth straight year Cantor has put out odds on every game — with the exception of week 17 contests because of the amount of players who rest in the usually meaningless games — well before the season.
But the release date was nearly two months earlier than normal in 2012, illustrating the demand and attention the NFL draws from bettors.
No teams were favored in every game at Cantor last year. But the Carolina Panthers, who ended up going 6-10 behind Rookie of the Year Quarterback Cam Newton, were underdogs in every game.
This season, Cantor posted the Cleveland Browns as underdogs in all 15 lined games. The Browns went 4-12 last season.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/blogs/talking-points/2012/may/09/vegas-sports-book-favors-patriots-packers-in-every/
As a Packer fan, I hope their predictions come true, as long as they carry it on to the playoffs.
And I guess it sucks to be a Cleveland Brows fan because they are predicted to lose every game this next season. The Jacksonville Jaguars are rated the second worst where they are favored in only 1 game.
The article has the predictions for all the teams. and if you are brave, put up some money before training camps open.

I Wonder What Is In Assembly Speaker John Oceguera's Closet
The Las Vegas Sun is a very liberal newspaper and it's columnists are extremely liberal, especially Patrick Coolican who is about an extremist liberal as they come.
The Las Vegas Sun holds conservatives to different and higher standards than Democrats, or at least the past several years. However, in the 2010 elections, while giving Coward Harry Reid a complete pass, they also turned on the ethically challenged Dina Titus and she lost her seat in the U.S. House.
Now, two days this week, both Jon Ralston and Coolican have turned on Assembly Speaker John Oceguera, who is running in the 3rd House district against Joe Heck.
Today, Coolican wrote: Hugh Jackson sent me a funny note after he and his co-host, Elizabeth Crum, interviewed Assembly Speaker John Oceguera on their KSNV Channel 3 TV show, “The Agenda.”
“Nov. 7: Mining lobbyist John Oceguera.”
The joke is that following two TV interviews this week, Oceguera’s campaign for Congress against Republican Rep. Joe Heck is all but finished. So, with his political career done, Oceguera will take his rightful place among the influence peddlers of Carson City, making half-truth arguments to clueless legislators on behalf of monied interests.
The gold mining industry will throw him a bone, as will the trial lawyers following his long defense of their hefty hourly fees in construction defect cases. If he’s really saving up for a San Diego vacation home, maybe he’ll slum it and sign up the payday lenders or a towing company. And, following his golden ladder retirement from the North Las Vegas Fire Department, Oceguera will probably do some pro bono work for the firefighters union.
About those TV interviews, which have become instantly infamous:
Oceguera first appeared on “Face to Face With Jon Ralston” and refused to take a position on any of the important federal issues, including the foreclosure crisis, Obamacare or the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, better known as the stimulus.
Instead, he stuck to rote talking points spat out of some dim robot at the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee. Worst of all, he couldn’t even deliver them properly. They were so derivative he sounded like a guy on a karaoke machine doing an impression of a guy on a karaoke machine singing a song by a Bon Jovi cover band.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2012/may/10/forget-congress-john-oceguera-can-call-himself-lob/
And Coolican finishes with this:
I get the sense that Oceguera believed his success in Carson City meant he could slide right into this federal race and give the equivalent of CliffsNotes answers. (Um, Ahab, is, like, a tragic hero.)
What he should have realized is that success in Carson City signifies nothing, other than perhaps a character defect.
In obvious damage control mode Wednesday, Oceguera sent out an email with the subject line, “What I stand for.”
He should have answered: “Wealthy lobbying clients.”
Or just left it blank.
Ouch, Oceguera just got bitch slapped by Coolican.
So, two liberals media goons going after Oceguera in two consecutive days means 1 of 3 things: Ralston and Coolican have fallen in love with Joe Heck. I highly doubt that. Oceguera has something is his closet so bad that even the liberals cannot defend him. That's possible, especially the way he robbed the bank, so to speak when retired from the North Las Vegas fire department, but even that won't make these two liberals carpet bomb Oceguera, so if this is the case, it must be really bad. Finally, it is possible that there is another candidate who wants to get into the race but they don't want to have a primary. If this is true, this person must have the blessing of Coward Harry Reid and Reid is telling Ralston and Coolican to attack Oceguera in an attempt to get him out of the race. Sound crazy? Not if you have read articles from Ralston and Coolican when they have written about Reid and especially true with Ralston.
So, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. But it is quite clear that Oceguera has pissed someone off over at the Las Vegas Sun and it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

It's Always An Adventure Eating At The El Dorado Cafe
The El Dorado Casino, in downtown Henderson, has a little cafe and it serves your basic comfort foods: hamburgers, pot roast, steaks, fish etc.
In the past, we have had rotten service and my wife got hit in the head by a member of the wait staff. We were given a comp for the bad service but nothing for the knock on the head.
Well, today, I got a couple of 50 cent beers and had them at the table when the waiter came and brought us our dinner and he promptly hit my beer and the beer spilled all over my shirts and pants. The guy apologized but then handed me a towel to clean up and he didn't help us with a discount for the food.
On the bright side, I didn't get stopped by the cops because if I had, I would have smelled like beer brewery and the cop probably wouldn't even to bother giving me a sobriety test.
Will I go back to the El Dorado Cafe? Probably, because of morbid curiosity: you just never know what will happen.

Ralston: Heck Opponent Not Too Bright
How bad of a liberal politician do you have to be when Jon Ralston of the Las Vegas Sun and Face To Face rips on you this early on in the election cycle.
From Ralston the Las Vegas Sun: The inescapable conclusion after congressional candidate John Oceguera’s performance on television this week is either he believes in nothing or is scared of everything.
Or both.
Either way, if there are any Democrats who can defend his spectacularly evasive and all-too-revealing appearances on “Face to Face” and “The Agenda,” they should be ashamed of themselves. Oceguera’s refusal to take positions on seminal Democratic initiatives such as health care reform and the stimulus are emblematic of a party whose candidates hope to win by hiding their core beliefs or have decided to discard them — at least temporarily.
This is as sad as it is pathetic, watching a major political party surrender its principles to expediency, putting winning above standing for what it believed only a few short years ago and then wondering why the public won’t be eager to follow if its leaders win and miraculously rediscover their beliefs.
ceguera is the absurd personification of this phenomenon as he gave arguably one of the worst, most vacuous performances in “Face to Face” history Monday and followed up with a nearly identical encore on “The Agenda” on Tuesday. He could not/would not answer a single question on subjects he should, by now, know inside and out, instead reverting to hollow talking points that a Democratic National Committee boiler-room teenager could have provided.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2012/may/09/oceguera-makes-case-heck/
Further:
Oceguera again refused to take a position, telling me, “You can go back and rehash the 2010 elections if you want,” something I have neither the desire nor the temperament to do and which did not have anything to do with my question.
Would you have voted for it? I gamely asked the speaker.
“I’m going to look forward,” he replied.
At that point, I was looking forward, too. To a commercial break. Or a stiff drink. Or a 16-ton weight falling on my head....
I walked off the set trying to remember when a politician running for an important office — not to mention one of the critical swing congressional districts in the country — had so cogently made this case for his opponent. I remembered that this was a man who held the highest-ranking legislative position, and I didn’t ask him about any topic that should have surprised him. And then I had the most frightening thought of all: Maybe saying nothing is his campaign platform.
It sounds like that Oceguera feels that since he was going to interview with Ralston, Oceguera was going to throw him softball questions, like they do at the Las Vegas Sun, but Ocegurea was mistaken. Ocegurea also feels he in entitled elected to the U.S. House and so he really isn't trying that much.
Just another reason to vote for Rep. Dr. Joe Heck who has done a great job in the House.

You see they found another underwear bomber? Yeah, the arresting CIA agent inspected the tag and it said "Fruit of the Boom."

Actually, when you think about of all the assignments in the world a CIA agent could have, being the Underwear Bomber decoy has to be very low on the most desired list. And how do you put this on your resume?
Now, back to my day job.

New Poll: Should City Of Henderson Kill A Dog Who Killed A Baby
Last week, a very large dog of the Mastiff breed was startled by a 1 year old boy who was celebrating his first birthday. The dog was startled when the boy supposedly startled the dog by pulling the dog's tailed. From the LVRJ: The canine that killed a 1-year-old Henderson boy won an 11th-hour
reprieve Monday afternoon when a judge stopped his scheduled
destruction.
District Judge Rob Bare issued a restraining order to halt temporarily the euthanasia today of Onion, the 6-year-old mastiff-Rhodesian ridgeback mix that attacked and killed Jeremiah Eskew-Shahan last month in the family home.
Lawyers working with The Lexus Project, a national group that fights to spare dogs from destruction, filed the motion for the temporary restraining order Monday.
"We're thrilled," said Richard Rosenthal, a New York-based lawyer who heads The Lexus Project.
Bare scheduled a Friday morning hearing on whether to let Onion live and turn him over to the Lexus Project, which would send him to a sanctuary outside Denver that specializes in caring for large aggressive dogs.
Rosenthal said he hopes to negotiate with city animal control officials before then to settle the case and spare Onion's life.
"Killing the dog will not bring back the baby," he said.
http://www.lvrj.com/news/dog-that-killed-baby-gets-reprieve-from-euthanization-150537165.htmlI am torn on the issue. The dog may be killed because it was acting on instinct when the child startled the dog. Also, killing the dog will not accomplish anything. The dog is probably wondering when his previous owners will show up.
On the other hand, the dog killed a baby and so the dog could never be allowed to be that close to a child or infant. And, didn't the family of the dog want the dog to be put down? Further, the dog is being treated like a human being by the lawyers of the rescue dog group and Henderson courts. It is not human being, it is a dog.. And wouldn't it be nice if this dog rescue organization would adopt the animals that are killed in Las Vegas and Henderson just because the dog's owners don't want them any more.
All in all, I am glad I am not involved in this case. There are no winners, just a bunch of heart ache.

Texas Inmate Almost Beats Obama in West Virginia Primary
Today was primary day in West Virginia and President Obama was on the ballot in the Democrat presidential primary.
Obama was running against an inmate who is currently serving time in the Texas prison system and his name is Keith Judd. He is serving 210 months in prison for making threats to officials at University of New Mexico
As of now, at 9:19 PM PST, Obama has about 59,000 votes or 57% and Judd has about 44,000 votes or 43%.
http://apps.sos.wv.gov/elections/results/results.aspx?year=2012&eid=8&county=StatewideWest Virgina, home of the late liberal, Robert Byrd and home to many coal mining union members showed that many West Virginia Democrats don't like President Obama.
I would venture a guess that Obama will lose West Virginia to Mitt Romney or to a ham sandwich in November.

May 8, 1945 V-E Day
Today is the 67 anniversary of V-E (Victory in Europe) Day. It is the day that our greatest generation prevailed over the Nazis and other Axis countries.
From the BBC: Tuesday 8 May 1945 was 'Victory in Europe' (VE) Day, and it marked the formal end of Hitler's war. With it came the end of six years of misery, suffering, courage and endurance across the world.
Individuals reacted in very different ways to the end of the nightmare: some celebrated by partying; others spent the day in quiet reflection; and there were those too busy carrying out tasks to do either. Ultimately nothing would be quite the same again.
The end of the World War One on 11 November 1918 had come as a shock to many soldiers and civilians because the collapse of the German army had been so sudden. By contrast, it was clear - since at least the beginning of 1945 - that the end of the World War Two was in sight following a series of capitulations. The German forces in Italy surrendered on 2 May. On the following day a high-ranking German delegation, including a senior admiral and a senior general, appeared at the headquarters of Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery, located near Lubeck.
Typically, Montgomery barked, 'Who are these men? What do they want?' They had come to surrender the German forces in Northern Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.
The final document of unconditional surrender was signed at General Dwight Eisenhower's headquarters in Reims on 7 May. Prime Minister Winston Churchill and King George VI wanted Monday 7 May to be VE Day, but in the event, bowing to American wishes, victory was celebrated on 8 May. The USSR waited an extra day before beginning their formal celebrations.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/worldwars/wwtwo/veday_germany_01.shtml
Sadly, there are few World War 2 veterans still around to remember this day. But the world owes these men a huge debt of gratitude for defeating some very, very bad people.
So, thank you to the veterans of World War 2 for all you have done so that we can have our freedoms we have today.

Why Scott Walker May Lose In Wisconsin
Governor Scott Walker is involved in a recall effort in Wisconsin and I always thought that it would be impossible for him to lose the election.
However, here in Nevada, I have been having debates with friends of mine, who are also liberal.
The lie going around today is that the Koch brothers have put in $20,000,000 into Walkers campaign and that unions have put very little money into the race.
Now these guys are college educated, are teachers and middle class. If these guys believe these lies, then what are the college educated or non- educated thinking in Wisconsin, where it counts most?
Why are these people being suckered into the lies that the left have put out? And how about those people who are not educated? Are they believing the lies the left has put out?
In the end, i think Walker will win 70 or 71 out of 72 counties in Wisconsin, either by a little bit or a lot. The only Counties I see Walker losing is Dane County, which is the capital of Wisconsin and maybe Shawano County, which has an Indian reservation on it.
So, if the majority of Wisconsin voters are poltically stupid as my friends are, then Walker may be in trouble.

Tornado In Las Vegas?
Today, a possible tornado hit the Las Vegas Valley this afternoon, causing some damage to some stores and houses and ripped down some trees.
From Channel 13: High winds sweeping through the Valley caused damage to businesses and power outages at homes on Monday afternoon.
The first report of damage came from a building on Flamingo near Eastern at about 3:30 p.m. A spokesperson for Clark County said the structure lost tiles from the roof and the building appeared to be unoccupied.
A dollar store near Flamingo and Owens also suffered wind damage.
Property owners in North Las Vegas reported damage to their homes at about the same time.
NV Energy confirmed 2,000 customers in North Las Vegas lost power after a power line went down during the wind gusts.
http://www.ktnv.com/news/local/150515985.html
And Channel 13 had this photo:
Either that is a small tornado or an extremely large dust devil.
This is something you don't see every day (or month, year or even decade) in the Las Vegas Valley.

What The Hell Is That?
I went to bed early tonight but all of sudden I was woken up by the sound of thunder and seeing the lighting outside our window.
And of course, the weather people said there was a 0% chance of rain today.
Seriously, how hard is it to forecast weather in Las Vegas? It probably rains 10 times a year and the rest of the time, it is clear to partly cloudy and it is windy some times.
But I guess the weather forecasters in Las Vegas were wrong again. What a shock.

Pawn Stars Review: May 7, 2012
It's been an interesting week at the Gold and Silver Shop. First, the store was sued in State court for supposedly throwing out a disabled Vietnam veteran from their store. He was trying to get one of the stars of the show to take care of him because he was selling an old gun. http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2012/05/pawn-stars-hit-with-lawsuit-by-man-who.html
Then Corey came back and defended th store in an article written by Norm Clarke of the Las Vegas Review Journal. Among one of his claims is that 4000 people were in and around the shop at the time of the incident:
http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2012/05/pawn-star-response-to-lawsuit.html
My guess that the Shop, it's lawyers and thier insurance will settle the law suit quietly.
In tonight's 10:00 PST episode, it was first aired on June 6, 2011: http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2011/06/pawn-star-review-june-62011.html
And the 2nd episode was firt aired on August 1, 2011: http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2011/08/pawn-stars-review-august-1-2011.html
Hope you have a nice week and thanks for stopping by.

Is Everyone In Massachusetts Stupid?
From the Boston Herald: Bake sales, the calorie-laden standby cash-strapped classrooms, PTAs
and booster clubs rely on, will be outlawed from public schools as of
Aug. 1 as part of new no-nonsense nutrition standards, forcing
fundraisers back to the blackboard to cook up alternative ways to raise
money for kids.
At a minimum, the nosh clampdown targets so-called “competitive” foods — those sold or served during the school day in hallways, cafeterias, stores and vending machines outside the regular lunch program, including bake sales, holiday parties and treats dished out to reward academic achievement. But state officials are pushing schools to expand the ban 24/7 to include evening, weekend and community events such as banquets, door-to-door candy sales and football games.
The Departments of Public Health and Education contend clearing tables of even whole milk and white bread is necessary to combat an obesity epidemic affecting a third of the state’s 1.5 million students. But parents argue crudites won’t cut it when the bills come due on athletic equipment and band trips.
“If you want to make a quick $250, you hold a bake sale,” said Sandy Malec, vice president of the Horace Mann Elementary School PTO in Newtonville.
http://www.bostonherald.com/news/regional/view/20220507parents_rules_half-baked_states_junk_food_ban_could_take_bite_out_of_school_fundraisers/srvc=home&position=0The head Food Nazi, along with her Nazi following says this:
No, insists Dr. Lauren Smith, DPH’s medical director.
“We’re not trying to get into anyone’s lunch box,” Smith told the Herald. “We know that schools need those clubs and resources. We want them to be sure and have them, but to do them a different way. We have some incredibly innovative, talented folks in schools who are already doing some impressive things, who serve as incontrovertible evidence that, yes, you can do this, and be successful at it.”
State Sen. Susan Fargo (D-Lincoln), chairwoman of the Joint Committee on Public Health, said the problem of overweight children has reached “crisis” proportions.
“If we didn’t have so many kids that were obese, we could have let things go,” Fargo said.
That pretty much says it all. The government and this food Nazi, Susan Fargo, has decided that is the Sate of Massachusetts who knows best about all children and they are going to be the ones who solves the problem.
Obviously, Fargo (who really embarrasses Fargo, ND with her name) and "Dr."Smith live in a tiny bubble and have no concept of reality. They also want the decision making out of the parents hands and put into the state of Massachusetts and that is down right hideous.
If you want to get rid of the supposed obesity problem, have the parents, not the State, cut down on TV time, have the kids play after school, encourage them to play sports or march in a band, cut down on their food intake or just have the kids just walk around the block.
But to the Food Nazis, Fargo and Smith, this doesn't compute with them, they think they are smarter than anyone else and they want to impose their values on the children of Massachusetts

Would Blazing Saddles Be Allowed To Be Made In 2012?
One of my all time favorite movies, Blazing Saddles, is one of the most politically incorrect, but yet one of the funniest movies ever is being run on CMT right now.
For those 5 people in the United States who have not seen the movie, Blazing Saddles is about a black Sheriff in the wild, wild west. Heck, Blazing Saddles could have been about very early Las Vegas, Reno, Elko or any other old city in Nevada.
Blazing Saddles was written by and directed Mel Brooks and he also acted in the movie. Brooks loves to rip on Jewish people, among others, perhaps because Brooks is Jewish?
In the movie, they rip on just about every ethnic group and use ethnic slurs throughout the movie, mostly for comedic relief.
For more information and the cast: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071230/
The movies cost$2,600,000 and grossed over $120,000,000.
The use the n-word countless times, jokes about gays, the Irish, cowboys, whites, Jews, Indians, Blacks, criminals, politicians and just about everyone else.
or this
:
So, do you think the movie would still be made and shown in theaters because of the lack of political correctness? I say no, it wouldn't, even with Mel Brook's influence. Too many people would demonstrate where the movie would be shown and idiots like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and President Obama would be leading the marchers. And because of political correctness, we are missing out on movies made by people like Mel Brooks that are politically incorrect but the movies are funny as hell.

R.I.P Goober/ George Lindsay
From the El Paso Times: George Lindsey, who spent nearly 30 years as the grinning Goober on "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Hee Haw," has died. He was 83.
The Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home in Nashville said Lindsay died
early Sunday morning after a brief illness. Funeral arrangements were
still being made.
Lindsey was the beanie-wearing Goober on "The Andy Griffith Show" from 1964 to 1968 and its successor, "Mayberry RFD," from 1968 to 1971. He played the same jovial character - a service station attendant - on "Hee Haw" from 1971 until it went out of production in 1993.
"America has grown up with me," Lindsey said in an Associated Press interview in 1985. "Goober is every man; everyone finds something to like about ol' Goober."
He joined "The Andy Griffith Show" in 1964 when Jim Nabors, portraying Gomer Pyle, left the program. Goober Pyle, who had been mentioned on the show as Gomer's cousin, replaced him.
"At that time, we were the best acting ensemble on TV," Lindsey once told an interviewer. "The scripts were terrific. Andy is the best script constructionist I've ever been involved with. And you have to lift your acting level up to his; he's awfully good."
In a statement released through the funeral home, Griffith said, "George Lindsey was my friend. I had great respect for his talent and his human spirit. In recent years, we spoke often by telephone. Our last conversation was a few days ago ... I am happy to say that as we found ourselves in our eighties, we were not afraid to say, 'I love you.' That was the last thing George and I had to say to each other. 'I love you.'"
http://www.elpasotimes.com/newupdated/ci_20561482/george-lindsey-known-goober-pyle-andy-griffith-show
I was a fan of Goober and to me, he was one of the better actors on the Andy Griffith, in the way he moved around the set and talked, he was very funny.
RIP George, God must have needed another comedienne up in heaven.

Pawn Star Response To Lawsuit
Norm, from the LVRJ, gives the Gold and Silver Shop (home of the Pawn stars) response to a lawsuit in which a 62 year old disabled veteran was literally thrown out the shop's front door.
From Norm and the LVRJ: Corey "Big Hoss" Harrison is defending his "Pawn Stars" staff after a lawsuit by a 62-year-old disabled veteran who claims he was roughed up.
Harrison, 27, said he was speaking out because a number of wild media reports blamed his father, Rick, and his 71-year-old grandfather, Richard, "like they did some kind of tag team on this guy."
"They were never in the room with him," he said.
Vietnam vet Daniel Callahan filed a lawsuit last week in District Court in Las Vegas claiming the elder Harrisons failed to provide "reasonable and necessary" security at Gold and Silver Pawn Shop.
Callahan seeks more than $20,000 for injuries he is alleged to have suffered being tossed out after an argument over a rifle he brought.
In the lawsuit, Callahan said he was put in a chokehold, dragged out of the pawn shop and tossed on the sidewalk. So was his rifle and cane, which were damaged, he alleged.
Corey Harrison, who said he didn't witness the incident, said Callahan became "absolutely irate with a weapon in his hand and 4,000 people waiting."
"He was screaming 'I want to see the owner.' I'm going with my employees because if I were out there, I would have done the exact same thing. The way he was acting it was in our best interests to get him out of there."
http://www.lvrj.com/news/-pawn-stars-staff-backed-in-incident-150335415.html
First, Corey, seriously, 4000 people in or around the store? Please, are you really that bad with numbers or estimates?
And he didn't see what happened? Maybe not in person but I am sure the whole incident was caught on video tape. All I see is C. Harrison just covering his butt because this can be bad publicity.
Having said that, I have seen first hand when people had something to pawn or sell, they only wanted Chumlee, Corey, Rick or The Old Man to give them service and when they weren't able to get that service, they got a little irritated.
The only way to know what really happened is in the video tape the store has. And considering the guy is only asking for $20,000, which is very low by Las Vegas standards, my guess is that both sides will settle out of court quite quickly. Then again, they maybe are playing this like a WWE wrestling match and we are being dragged in as part of the story line.
However, if both sides play it right, maybe they will re-enact the scene and put it on the show- that will draw in a lot of viewers.

RINO Senator About To Lose Senate Seat
From the Indianapolis Star: Sen. Richard Lugar's campaign came down to one word Friday: "help."
In the political equivalent of an SOS, the Navy veteran urged Hoosiers of any political persuasion who like what he's done in his 36-year career in the Senate to help him stay there.
"Every person in Indiana who wants me to continue, every person wherever they might be at this point, I encourage them to come out," he said. "Come out immediately, as fast as you can."
The reason for the urgency: The primary election is Tuesday, and a new poll shows state Treasurer Richard Mourdock defeating Lugar, 48 percent to 38 percent.
That's a dramatic slide for Lugar, who won in 2006 with more than 80 percent of the vote after Democrats didn't field a candidate against him. Only a month ago, another Howey/DePauw Indiana Battleground poll showed Lugar leading Mourdock, 42 percent to 35 percent.
Robert Dion, a University of Evansville political science professor, summed it up simply: "devastating."
Mourdock's campaign spokesman, Chris Conner, said the poll -- taken Monday and Tuesday of 700 likely GOP primary voters statewide, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points -- confirms what that campaign has believed: http://www.indystar.com/article/20120505/NEWS0502/205050318?odyssey=mod|mostcom
Lugar has been a RINO for some time and he has been in the Senate way too long- 36 years. He, like others like Coward/Crybaby Harry Reid, just have been in Federal politics way too long and they have come to a point that they don't care about their constituents. In Lugar and Reid's mind, Washington D.C. is their constituency instead the people of Indiana and Nevada.
So, if Lugar is ousted in the Indiana primary, all I can say is that thank you for your service and don't let the door hit you on your way out the door.

Soon To Be Jailbird And Chicken. Floyd Mayweather Wins
From ESPN: Floyd Mayweather Jr. finally found himself in a real fight, complete with a bloody nose and an opponent in Miguel Cotto who never was going to quit.
As usual, he found a way to win.
Mayweather used his speed and accuracy Saturday night to take a unanimous decision over a game Cotto in a bruising bout to win a piece of the 154-pound title. But it wasn't easy, as Cotto landed some hard punches and kept attacking all the way to the final bell.
"You're a hell of a champion," Mayweather told Cotto in the ring afterward. "You're the toughest guy I ever fought."
Mayweather dominated late, rocking Cotto in the 12th round to pull out a win and remain unbeaten in 43 fights. Unlike most of his fights, though, Mayweather got his nose bloodied and engaged in some bruising exchanges he usually likes to avoid.
Two judges scored the fight 117-111 and the third had it 118-110. ESPN.com had it 116-112 for Mayweather. The Associated Press had Mayweather winning 116-112.
Fighting just a few weeks before he enters a county jail to serve a three-month sentence for domestic abuse, Mayweather found himself in a tough fight against a game opponent who never stopped moving forward. But he was faster and more accurate than Cotto and seemed to wear him down in the final rounds.
http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/7896077/floyd-mayweather-beats-miguel-cotto-unanimous-decison
Maryweather, who is afraid to fight Manny Pacquiao, will make at least $32,000,000 for the fight. But that won't help him as he will be spending about 3 months in Clark County Detention Center for his thuggish behavior towards his wife and children and along with some security guards who guard the luxury sub-division he lives in. He is to report to jail on June 5th.

GOP Stupidity: Romney Campaingn Tries To Cheat
From the Reno Gazette Journal:
The most interesting thing that happened in the first hours of the Nevada State Republican Convention was that some folks in the Romney camp wore Ron Paul t-shirts and tried to distribute a phony slate of candidates for Nevada's delegation to the national convention.
The most interesting thing that happened in the first hours of the Nevada State Republican Convention was that some folks in the Romney camp wore Ron Paul t-shirts and tried to distribute a phony slate of candidates for Nevada's delegation to the national convention.
The list included some Paul
supporters but hidden among the Paul supporters were obvious Romney
supporters like Patty Cafferata, Mendy Elliott and Lucinda “Cindy”
Nixon.
The Romney camp was busted when a Ron Paul supporter grabbed the microphone and warned the convention floor of the bogus slate.
Some of the people who were handing out the phony slate were detained by security officers.
“A
couple of people have been detained outside and they were wearing Ron
Paul gear, even though they were not part of our campaign,” said Rachel
Stephens, a Paul campaign spokeswoman from Las Vegas. “I don’t care if
Mitt Romney wins legitimately but I would have a problem if he wins
because he has fake ballots to misinform voters.” http://www.rgj.com/section/blogs01?plckController=Blog&plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&U=063a1ff4-7a74-4c66-8976-85b765479560&plckPostId=Blog:063a1ff4-7a74-4c66-8976-85b765479560Post:e477e5ee-5d1e-4c6e-9208-fa6ce4e44908&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest
Why would the Romney campaign do something so stupid. It's not like there is any doubt who the candidate for the GOP is. And so what if there is an extra Ron Paul delegate, he is completely irrelevant.
The race president is for the GOP to lose and they are certainly doing a good of screwing things up and it is only early May.
Pawn Stars Hit With Lawsuit By Man Who Was Thrown Out Of The Shop
The Harrison's at the Gold and Silver Shop, home of the Pawn Stars are being being sued in Clark County Court by a man who says he was physically thrown out of the shop.
From the New York Post: The father-and-son stars of History’s “Pawn Stars” have been sued by a disabled Vietnam vet who claims they roughed him up in their Las Vegas shop last fall.
Daniel Callahan, 62, filed a civil suit in Clark County District Court on April 26 accusing Rick Harrison and his father, Richard, of physically assaulting him in their Gold & Silver Pawn Shop last October.
The suit was first reported by the syndicated TV show, “Right This Minute.”
According to the suit, Callahan — who walks with a cane — got into a dispute with the Harrisons, who placed him “in a chokehold, dragged him through the store and threw him onto the sidewalk” along with the Model 96B rifle he’d brought in to have appraised.
Callahan is asking for $20,000 in total damages, payment of his medical expenses related to the incident and payment of his legal fees.
“It’s my policy not to make statements early in litigation,” Callahan’s attorney, Craig Drummond, told The Post. John Taft, who represents the Harrisons, had no comment.

I'm kind of surprised the guy was physically thrown out by security unless they guy was being a total jerk.
My guess is that they are going to settle out of court.

Secret Service Demands Obama Come Back To Nevada
On orders from the Secret Service, President Obama is coming to Reno, NV. to let the Secret Service sow their wild oats in the local and legal brothels of Northern Nevada.
The Reno Gazette Journal: Democratic President Barack Obama plans to visit Reno next week and discuss the economy.
The White House press office said Obama will travel to Reno on May 11 for an unspecified official event regarding the nation’s economy.
It will be his third trip to Nevada this year and his first to Reno since April 2011.
Obama will travel to Reno from Los Angeles on Friday, after campaign events Thursday in Seattle and L.A. He'll return the afternoon of May 11 to Washington, D.C. The White House released no other details.
http://www.rgj.com/viewart/20120504/NEWS/120504017/President-Barack-Obama-coming-Reno-May-11
I am sure the GSA is organizing the party err, event. Meanwhile, the Secret Service agents are already looking at the local brothels in northern Nevada via the Internet. My guess is that if the Secret Service tries to skip out on paying the hookers in the brothels, they will be be soon meet up with a 6'7 and heavily tattooed security guard who used to ride with a motorcycle gang in California.

TV Eco Terrorists At It Again
Paul Watson, his crew of eco terrorists and the Sea Shepard and Steve Irwin ships are off to harass the folks of the Faeroe Islands, which are located in between Scotland and Iceland but the islands belong to Denmark.
The eco terrorists are angry that the people of the islands dare hunt pilot whales as part as their tradition and Watson vows to stop them from their traditional whale kill.
The villagers hunt the whales when they come close to shore and they will kill 100 or so at each hunt. It also appears and there have documented cases of hunting whale around the Islands since the 1500's.
The Animal Planet is showing the Whale Wars: Viking Shores and they are actually showing a somewhat balanced show. Not only do they give the eco terrorists their time on camera and they also have had the villagers give their point of view. The show also shows how angry the villagers are by having the eco terrorists in their back yard.
I don't know what will happen in the series, but let's say they shut down whaling for a season, will the Sea Shepard keep coming back and back and back to stop the whaling? Or is Watson just doing this for the cameras?
Apparently, Watson had been to the Faero when Watson was much younger and had black hair and he was given a rude welcome and the villagers remember him and they have no love lost for him.
In my view, when Watson and his band of eco terrorists went after the Japanese whaling, it was just plain harassment by Watson. They also employed dangerous tactics against the Japanese and the Japanese fought back. But the one downfall of the Japanese is that they sold the whale meat, which made Watsons harassment somewhat justified, except when Watson and his ilk tried to hurt the Japanese fishermen physically.
In the Faeroe Islands, they don't sell the meat, from what I can see and they use as much meat of the whale as possible and each family can get a share of the whale meat.
From Truth or Fiction:
According to a 9/14/2003 BBC News story, residents of the Faroe have been hunting for pilot whales for centuries, giving them valuable food stocks for the winter. The island has had a Norse settlement since the Viking age (800-900 AD.)
For more information:
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3074626/Brutal-slaughter-of-pilot-whales.html
http://www.seashepherd.org/
http://www.faroeislands.com/
I am not a hunter because I cannot kill another living thing except maybe cockroaches and mosquitoes. But I also don't begrudge people who do hunt, as long as they use the animal for food, clothing or other uses for the dead animal. Killing an animal just for the sake the thrill of killing is wrong and the people of the Faeroe Islands don't do that.
So, to Paul Watson and his band of eco terrorists, leave the people of the Faeroe Islands alone and go after people who kill whales or fish just for the sake of killing them.

The
shore-based hunters in the Faroe Islands of Denmark continue this
practice and it is a community effort for storing whale meat and
products for the winter. Pilot whale meat and blubber is considered by
islanders to be an important part of their staple diet. The whale meat
is never sold, instead it is divided evenly to everyone who wants it.
What ever is left over is donated to the local hospital and senior
citizens on the island. There is very little of the whale that is
actually wasted. The islanders use the blubber for processing oil, the
skin for ropes and lines, stomachs for floats, and the esophagus for
shoes. Pilot whales register high in mercury so pregnant mothers are
warned against partaking in the meat.
http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/w/whale-killing-denmark.htmFinally, when will Watson and his band of misfits visit Alaska and harass the Eskimos who also hunt whale as part of their tradition and also to feed the families of the village? For more information:

I am not a hunter because I cannot kill another living thing except maybe cockroaches and mosquitoes. But I also don't begrudge people who do hunt, as long as they use the animal for food, clothing or other uses for the dead animal. Killing an animal just for the sake the thrill of killing is wrong and the people of the Faeroe Islands don't do that.
So, to Paul Watson and his band of eco terrorists, leave the people of the Faeroe Islands alone and go after people who kill whales or fish just for the sake of killing them.

Jim Nabors Not Singing At Indy 500 This Year
From ESPN: Heart surgery will prevent Jim Nabors from performing "Back Home Again in Indiana" at this year's Indianapolis 500.
The 81-year-old Nabors will have surgery later this month, Indianapolis Motor Speedway spokesman Doug Boles said.
"I am very disappointed that I will not be at this year's Indianapolis 500," Nabors said in a statement. "I have attended nearly 40 races and been honored to sing 'Back Home Again.' There is no place I would rather be on Memorial Day weekend than with my family of Indianapolis 500 fans. I am looking forward to returning and singing in person once again in 2013."
http://espn.go.com/racing/indycar/story/_/id/7882796/jim-nabors-miss-indianapolis-500-back-home-indiana-performance
It's kind of hoke for Nabors to sing the song. First, he wasn't born in Indiana nor has he ever lived there, but it is a 40 year old tradition and he certainly has some deep pipes.
Hope he recovers quickly.
Appeals Court Update On Yucca Mountain
I have been rather harsh on the Pahrump Valley Times, but I have to give credit to them for running several articles on a Federal Appeals Court case while the Las Vegas media has ignored it.
From the PVT: Federal appeals judges indicated Wednesday they were troubled over the licensing shutdown of Yucca Mountain, but they struggled whether the nuclear waste project might be too dead to order it revived.
Both sides faced sharp questioning in the case that pits the Nuclear Regulatory Commission against plaintiffs that include South Carolina and Washington state that hold millions of gallons of nuclear waste with no promise of a place to send it ever since the Nevada repository plan was terminated.
Nye County, which views the Yucca project as a potential economic boom if it were to be built on the edge of the Nevada Test Site, also is a plaintiff in the case. Darrell Lacy, director of the Nye County Nuclear Waste Project Office, was in court alongside Robert Andersen, the county’s Washington, D.C. attorney.
The case before a three-judge panel in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia is the last remaining legal challenge to the Obama administration that began closing out the program in 2009 and set out to develop a new waste strategy.
In a courtroom crowded with lawyers, industry representatives and former Yucca Mountain managers, Washington state Assistant Attorney General Andrew Fitz argued the NRC acted improperly to close out repository licensing last year and should be ordered to resume it.
A federal law still in effect requires the agency to complete the license review and ultimately issue a safety decision, Fitz said.
The NRC, he said, “chose to abdicate its duties. The NRC’s duty is to comply with the law.”
With $10 million left over in a repository budget, the NRC could resume the license case for some period of time and release key reports containing its staff’s views on whether the Yucca site might be safe, Fitz said.
http://pvtimes.com/news/judges-unsure-in-yucca-appeal/
When Coward/Crazy/Demented Harry Reid and suck up to Reid, President Obama closed Yucca, they did it illegally and without any clear reason other than they hate nuclear power. There is no intellectual reason why Yucca cannot be used to store nuclear fuel there. Yucca has been shown to be safe and Nevada already holds low level nuclear power in other dump sites, so there is no intellectual reason to close the site down. Dementia plagued and coward Harry Reid thinks people will not come to Las Vegas if we open up Yucca but of course the dementia of Reid shows that he forgot that atomic bombs were set off above ground just north and west of Las Vegas and we still get 30,000,000+ visitors to Las Vegas..
So, let's hope that the judges in Washington DC can see the errors of Reid and Obama and order Yucca reopened. It is the only intelligent decision to be made.

Spirit Backs Down, Refunds, Donates Money To Ill Vet
This week, Spirit Airlines made a spirited but stupid mistake in denying a dying Vietnam veteran a cash refund and today, the CEO of Spirit back down and gave the man a refund and donating $5000 to the Wounded Warrior organization.
From Fox News:Dying Vietnam veteran Jerry Meekins is getting his money back from Spirit Airlines' tightfisted boss after all.
After a week of criticism from veterans around the nation, Spirit CEO Ben Baldanza issued a statement Friday afternoon saying he would personally refund Meekins' $197 airfare, and that the discount carrier would make a $5,000 donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.
"He called me personally, and I'm going to take him at his word," Meekins told FoxNews.com. "He was apologetic and said he'd made a mistake."
The move was a sharp reversal for Baldanza, who as recently as Thursday had stubbornly refused to refund the cancer-stricken Marine's money, even though Meekins' doctor told him he could not fly.
"Sometimes we make mistakes," Baldanza said. "In my statements regarding Mr. Meekins’ request for a refund, I failed to explain why our policy on refunds makes Spirit Airlines the only affordable choice for so many travelers, and I did not demonstrate the respect or the compassion that I should have, given his medical condition and his service to our country.
“Therefore I have decided to personally refund Mr. Meekins’ airfare, and Spirit Airlines will make a $5,000 contribution, in his name, to the charity of his choice, Wounded Warriors."

I certainly see Spirit Airlines point of view. They offer the cheapest prices for airline tickets for one reason- they are tough and they charge only what the customer wants. (ok, 2 reasons)
Mr. Meekins took a calculated risk, he bought the tickets thinking he could fly and refused to buy the travel insurance.
This is like, in some rural areas of the country where a volunteer fire department would charge a fee to a homeowner for fire service. If the the home owner paid the fee and if there was a fire at their home, the fire department would come and put out the fire, no questions asked. But if the homeowner refused to pay the fee, most times, under $100 a year, if there was a fire at the home, the fire department would come out, make sure no one was in the house and then they would back off and let the house burn down. It's tough, harsh but preventable if only the homeowner paid the fire department fees.
Same case with Mr. Meekins. He refused to pay the insurance for the flight, about 10% cost of the tickets. Her gambled and lost and Spirit was right to refuse to give a refund to Mr. Meekins. And if Spirit caved in on this one case, then people will be demanding that their ticket be refunded for "hardship" reasons. Same thing would happen in the fire department situation.
So, now that Spirit caved, they still will have the bad publicity and they will now be deluged with requests for hardship refunds.
Of course, Spirit was getting a ton of bad press but also some free advertising from all the news article so they had to do something and they decided to refund Mr. Meekins money and made a donation all in hope the publicity will go away, which it will.
So, in the end, Mr. Meekins get his money, Spirit gets rid of the bad publicity and life goes on, one day at a time..
Oil Prices Dropping, Will Gas Also Drop?
From CNBC: Oil prices were in free fall Friday as worries about a weakening global
economy combine with seemingly ample supplies and less fear of a
confrontation with Iran.
Traders also point to new margin requirements by the CFTC, announced Thursday. However, those requirements do not go into effect until August, and the bigger factor behind the selling is concerns about a global slowdown.

West Texas crude finsished down nearly 4 percent at
$98.49 per barrel, after breaking key technical levels and the
psychological $100 mark. WTI has now wiped out all of its gains for the
year and is down fractionally for the year and down 6 percent on the
week.
Brent crude,
the international bench mark, was also tumbling, down 2.5 percent at
$113.18 per barrel after breaking through its 200-day moving average of
$113.60. It lost 5.6 percent for the week.
Traders also exited positions ahead of the weekend elections in Europe, which could bring a fractured government to Greece and a new Socialist president to France.
But
the big driver is the concern that the U.S. economy is not strong
enough to withstand a weak European economy and slower growth in China.
The disappointing April jobs report Friday, showing just 115,000 nonfarm payrolls were added, was the latest catalyst for a second day of heavy selling.
So, we also a 4% or more drop in gas prices (about 16 cents) If we do, great, if not, why not?
Does Obama want the lower gas prices because in the past, he said he liked higher gas prices because it increases the use of public transportation, which Obama loves.
However, if the gas prices come down a lot, like being in the $2.75 price range, Obama will take credit and he will easily win re-election.
So, as a conservative, what do I want, low gas prices and a booming economy to come or high gas prices and a very good chance that Mitt Romney will win the presidential election?
Of course, my choice is for the low gas prices and booming economy. The country is bigger and more important than who sits in the White House.
So, let's see the gas prices fall like a Secret Service agent hunting for bad guys and sexy women. Or vice versa.

RIP Junior Seau
From ESPN: Junior Seau, a homegrown superstar who was the fist-pumping, emotional leader of the San Diego Chargers for 13 years, was found shot to death at his home Wednesday morning. He was 43.Police
Chief Frank McCoy said Seau's girlfriend reported finding him
unconscious with a gunshot wound to the chest and lifesaving efforts
were unsuccessful. A gun was found near him, McCoy said, and police
were investigating the possibility that Seau's death was a suicide.
Police said no suicide note was found and they didn't immediately know
to whom the gun was registered.
eau's death in Oceanside, in northern San Diego County, stunned the region he represented with almost reckless abandon. The same intensity that got the star linebacker ejected for fighting in his first exhibition game helped carry the Chargers to their only Super Bowl, following the 1994 season. A ferocious tackler, he'd leap up, pump a fist and kick out a leg after dropping a ball carrier or quarterback."It's a sad thing. It's hard to understand," said Bobby Beathard, who as Chargers general manager took Seau out of Southern California with the fifth pick overall in the 1990 draft. "He was really just a great guy. If you drew up a player you'd love to have the opportunity to draft and have on the team and as a teammate, Junior and Rodney (Harrison), they'd be the kind of guys you'd like to have."
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7882750/junior-seau-former-san-diego-charger-found-dead-cops-probe-suicide
I remember watching Junior play on TV and he was a classy guy on the field and off.
What made him commit suicide? Concussions over his career? I'm sure that some time during his high school, college and pro career, he suffered some kind of head injury. But to kill yourself at age 43 just does not make sense, especially if you have millions of dollars in the bank and collect a NFL pension, having a loving family and all the fame you want when you walk down the street. It just baffles the mind why Seau did this.
So, RIP, Junior, join the football game in the sky

U.S. House OK's Start Up Of Yucca Mountain
From the Pahrump Valley Times: Members of Congress continue to work at cross-purposes on nuclear
waste, advancing bills with differing visions of whether highly
radioactive materials should be stored at Yucca Mountain.
The Republican-controlled House Appropriations Committee approved a U.S. Department of Energy bill last Wednesday that contains $35 million to resume licensing and other work for a nuclear repository at the Nevada site in fiscal 2013 that begins Oct. 1.
Of the total, $5 million would be made available to Nye County, whose leaders have consented to host the project even as most senior elected officials in the state have rejected it.
U.S. Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, R-N.J., chairman of the energy and water subcommittee that wrote the bill, said Yucca Mountain remains “the law of the land” until Congress changes the 1982 law that led the Nevada site to be selected.
Frelinghuysen and other supporters of the Yucca site, which the government spent more than 20 years and $10 billion to study, have challenged President Barack Obama’s cancellation of the project.
http://pvtimes.com/news/5-million-would-go-to-county-if-yucca-bill-passes/
This bill still has to go through the House and Senate and then onto the President, so it is unlikely it will pass.
But come November, when the GOP takes over the Senate and the White Hosue (a guy can dream, right?), it is possible Yucca will reopen, creating thousands of high paying jobs in Nevada that Crybaby/Coward Harry Reid killed.

Watch Out For CCSD Teacher Layoffs
Today, an arbritator ruled in favor of the Clark County teachers union in it's dispute with
CCSD administrators.
From the LVRJ: Within weeks, an undetermined number of local teachers will receive the dreaded pink slip and won't be returning to their classrooms next fall because of a reduction in force, the Clark County School District announced today, responding to an arbitrator's decision that requires the district to give raises to teachers for seniority and continuing education credits. The district had sought to avoid paying raises to remedy a severe budget shortfall.
"While some teachers will receive raises, other teachers will receive pink slips and that's not what's best for our students," Superintendent Dwight Jones said. "That's not what's best for our students."
The decision on keeping or setting aside raises was left to an arbitrator because the Clark County Education Association, which represents district teachers, and the district couldn't reach agreement on the 2011-12 and 2012-2013 contract terms of 18,000 teachers. Union officials refused to allow teachers to take a pay freeze - as the district's 19,000 other employees have done - and claimed it wasn't necessary. However, Jones has asserted since the summer that a pay freeze must be endured by all to balance the budget and prevent layoffs.
Union President Ruben Murillo has repeatedly claimed that a union-hired accountant has found $63 million in the district's budget to cover teacher raises for 2011-13. The threat of layoffs is a bluff, he said.
http://www.lvrj.com/news/school-district-arbitrator-s-decision-will-lead-to-teacher-layoffs-149837285.html
On one hand, the administration has claimed financial distress but yet they hired many people throughout the year, including numerous administrators. At the classroom level, we really haven't seen much difference from last year in terms of money allowed for classrooms and teachers. And if the administration had won, they would have demanded thousands of teachers to reimburse the district thousands of dollars each for the raises we have gotten and he arbitrator probably took that into consideration.
But the union also is showing it's greedy side. It would not have cost that much to take a pay freeze for a year or two to help with the district's finances in these financial troubled times. Just about every public sector in the state and local governments have had their employees take a pay freeze or pay cut in the past few years. Everyone except the teachers.
So, what will happen? I think there will be a large number of lay off notices going out in about 2 weeks and by the end of the summer, it will turn out that very few, if any teachers will be laid off. The reasons? First, sales tax receipts are up and part of that money will find it's way down to the school district. Then when you have so many retirements and resignations thrown into the mix, there will be many job openings within the district.
Sadly, there will be some resentment towards teachers from other CCSD unions because the other unions gave up pay raises and benefits and they will see the teachers not sacrificing.
One final thing: It is possible that CCSD and other local governments will go to Carson City and try and get legislation similar to Wisconsin's Act 10 passed.

What An Idiot
From ESPN:A left hand laceration will force Amare Stoudemire to sit out Game 3 of the New York Knicks-Miami Heat
first-round playoff series, the team announced Tuesday evening. He is
listed as doubtful for Game 4, scheduled for Sunday at Madison Square
Garden.
Stoudemire suffered the laceration on the inside of his palm, on the side of his hand closest to the pinkie, after punching a glass case containing a fire extinguisher Monday moments after the Knicks' 104-94 loss to the Heat.
"He didn't haul off and punch the glass; he hit it out of frustration," a person who witnessed Stoudemire hitting the glass surrounding the fire extinguisher told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard. "He kind of slapped it, but with a closed fist. He said he thought it was plastic instead of glass.
"Half of his hand was just hanging off. It was really bad. Blood was just squirting out. That's why they had the paramedics come in, because they thought he might have punctured an artery because of how much blood was coming out."
A second league source said that amid the chaotic scene in the locker room, people could be heard calling for towels to tend to the injured Stoudemire, who already had bled onto the floor.
http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/story/_/id/7878302/2012-nba-playoffs-new-york-knicks-amare-stoudemire-miss-game-3-miami-heat
If the injury is bad as they say it it is, Stoudemire may have damaged some nerves or tendons in his hand. As some who cut a tendon while opening a soup can about 25 years ago, if he cut a tendon, he will spend a couple of months rehabbing and a nerve will be even worse to rehab.
I would say Stoudemire stupidity would be the number 1 stupid thing in the NBA so far this year, but there have been so many stupid actions by players, that Stoudemire has some strong competition. Like Ron Artest being suspended for 7 games for elbowing an opponent in the head. The 1 saving grace for Stoudemire is that the Knicks have no chance against the Miami Heat, so his stupid injury will make no difference in the play off series.

Real heroes do not brag and those who do brag are either professional wrestlers, people who feel inferior about themselves or they suffer a mental illness called narcissism.
From Charlie Sykes: I say any president, Jimmy Carter, anybody, any president would have, obviously, under those circumstances, done the same thing. And to now take credit for something that any president would do is indicative of take over campaign we're under -- we're -- we're seeing…So all I can say is that this is going to be a very rough campaign," McCain told Fox News in an interview set to air Monday night. "And I've had the great honor of serving in the company of heroes. And, you know the thing about heroes, they don't brag.”

Fizzle, Fizzle, Fizzle, Occupy Thugs Fizzle
All around the Country, the Occupy thugs promised anarchy, protests, strikes and marches. The Las Vegas chapter of Occupy thugs promised everything except the anarchy.
And all across the country, the protests, marches, disruptions, anarchy and strikes, for the most part, failed to materialized.
Here in Las Vegas, the promised march, if they had one, was so poorly attended, that even the very liberal Las Vegas Sun did not write about it. No TV and newspaper media in Las Vegas so far have written about the supposed march, and it was a beautiful day for a march to the Las Vegas U.S. Courthouse.
In Madison, WI., even the Occupy Madison group of misfits were kicked out of their home by a very liberal mayor and judge and the Occupiers left whimpering and their tails behind their legs.
So, today, it may have been the last dying breath of the Occupy thug movement and that is good news for the hard working Americans who have been forced to endure the disruptions or having to pay for the thugs because of overtime for the cops, pay for the damages these thugs caused or paying to have the thugs living space sterilized.
Good bye and good riddance, Occupy thugs.

Another Fast And Furious Death
From the El Paso Times: Firearms connected to Operation Fast and Furious were used in the 2010 slaying of the brother of the former Chihuahua state attorney general, according to a U.S. congressional report.
The report said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives traced two of the weapons suspected in the murder of lawyer Mario González Rodríguez, but did not report this fact to the Mexican government until eight months after the tracing.
"A few days after the kidnapping," the congressional report said, " a video surfaced on the Internet in which Mario González Rodríguez sat handcuffed, surrounded by five heavily armed men wearing masks, dressed in camouflage and bullet-proof vest."
"Apparently, under duress," the report said, "(González Rodríguez) alleged that his sister had ordered killings at the behest of the Juárez cartel ... the video quickly went viral."....Then, Mexican federal authorities, following a shootout with drug cartel suspects, seized 16 weapons and arrested eight men in connection with Mario González Rodríguez's murder.
The report said Morales was shocked and remarked, "Hijole!," which the report said translates into "Oh, my." http://www.elpasotimes.com/news/ci_20518887/report-guns-used-mexico-lawyers-murder-traced-atf-operation?source=rss_viewed
First a gun is used from Fast And Furious to murder a Mexican attorney and then the U.S. officials/Obama administration hide/cover up the information from Mexican authorities.
Tell me again why Eric Holder is not in jail and President Obama is not impeached? They are responsible for this death and a death of a Border Patrol agent.
If this was George Bush, he would have the class to fire the Attorney General and Bush probably would have resigned because the Democrats and the media would be hounding Bush until he did so. If this were Bush, the media would have been treating this bigger than Watergate.
Obama and Holder continue to be a disgrace and embarrassment to the United States.
