What do the following agencies have in common: Library of Congress, Smithsonian and Zoological Park, U.S. Supreme Court Capitol Police, U.S. Mint, Federal Reserve, Veterans Affairs, National Security Agency, Post Office, CIA, Bureau of Indian Affairs, U.S. Park Service and U.S. Wildlife Service and Park Rangers, Bureau of Land Management, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force, Marine, Pentagon, U.S. Treasury, NOAA, ATF, FBI, U.S. Marshals, Border Patrol, ICE, TSA, Secret Service, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Diplomatic Security, IRS, FDA, and Air Marshals?
They are all Federal law enforcement/police departments. Most, if not all of them have the police/law enforcement officers, a command structure leading up to the chief, administrative staff, dispatchers if needed and they are staffed 24 hours a day.
Seriously, does the Smithsonian and Library of Congress need their own police department? And the Federal Reserve? Why do they need a police department?
It seems that every agency fiefdom in the U.S. government needs their own police department but do they really need it? Is crime that rampant that they are needed or is it an ego thing for the administrators?
Of course, there is a need for some agencies to have their own police department, but some do not. The Smithsonian and Library of Congress can use security guards with back up of the local police departments, like the Washington D.C. Metro Police Dept.
So, when Crybaby Harry Reid and the Democrats and some GOP members say there is no place to cut, it's BS, there are. Just say you can get rid of or consolidate federal police departments.
