From the LVRJ: Allen Crabbe scored 19 points and Justin Cobbs had 13 to lead 12th-seeded California to a 64-61 upset of fifth-seeded UNLV.
The Rebels (25-10) were knocked out of the NCAA Tournament in their opening game for the fourth consecutive year.
Robert Thurman added 12 points on six dunks for the Golden Bears (21-11).
Bryce Dejean-Jones had 15 points and Anthony Bennett finished with 13 for UNLV, which had no clue how to solve Cal’s zone defense.
Bennett’s three-point play pulled the Rebels within 60-58 with 14.4 seconds left. But UNLV’s urgency to get back into the game showed up too late.
The Rebels went more than 11 minutes without making a field goal, from the 16:32 mark of the second half until Mike Moser’s layup with five minutes remaining.
Meanwhile, Crabbe, Cobbs and Thurman were taking control. The teams were tied at 28 at the half, but the Bears surged ahead 45-37 when Crabbe drove the lane and hit a floater with 14:09 remaining.
Cal scored the first seven points of the game and opened the second half with a 9-3 run. http://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/unlv-rebels/basketball/unlv-falters-again-ncaa-tournament-falls-california-64-61
This isn't really a upset as UNLV has not played up to it's potential all year.
And Anthony Bennett is thinking about leaving UNLV for the pro's. It might be wise for him to stay 1 more year and learn how to win.
