The Olympics are going on in Russia right now and I am not watching them... again.
I used to watch the Olympics, both the Summer and Winter games back in the 10970's-90's. The main reason is because back then, most of the Olympians were amateurs, or at least on paper.
There were also good battles going on between the Soviet Union and the Eastern Block vs the West and the United States. It made for exciting matches and games. The Miracle on Ice and the USA vs Soviet Union basketball game in which the Soviet Union stole a basketball game in the final seconds in 1972 from the United States in one of the most horribly rigged game of any kind in the history of sporting events.
Now, in hockey and basketball, the players play against or with each in the NHL and the NBA. Then they go back and play for the country and for me the bitter rivalry just isn't there, like in the 70's and 80's.
And for some reason, the United States have decided not to pursue the Olympics and so that removes some more excitement for me.
Finally, NBC and it's sister stations for some reason are showing a lot of curling... curling!
So, no thank you for watching the Olympics this year and the other Olympics.
