UNLV Fires Football Coach

The UNLV Rebels football team fired it's coach Mike Sanford, after the it's last game of the season, which is December 5th. http://www.lvrj.com/sports/UNLV-fires-football-coach-Sanford-70161832.html
I only follow UNLV football just a little bit. The problem is that UNLV never will have a good football team, no matter how hard they try. They have the disadvantage in that they are not known for football, they don't have tradition, they have the disadvantage of the weather- you just cannot practice very well in 110 degree weather, their facilities stink compared to other big colleges and recruiting for football is tough when you have some other programs in the region that have developed. Utah, BYU, Boise St. just to name a few that offer more than UNLV can offer.
In addition, the education program at UNLV is not as good as the other schools. That is why UNLV can attract basketball players- they know they don't need to finish college and they can skate by in their classes because they think they will go pro. In football, most of the players realize they are not going pro, so they need a decent education and they can get better education elsewhere.
Sanford probably did the best he could considering the circumstances. Good luck to him and his assistant coaches in finding new employment.
