Rory Reid, son of Harry Reid (Dumbass-NV) who is running for governor of Nevada, decided that he knows best to solve the severe financial crunch trying to get rid of UMC (the county run hospital) and begging the unions to lower their pay.
First, with UMC. The County puts in $10's of millions of dollars and closer to over $100,000,000 into UMC each year. This is money from the taxpayers, over and above what private and government insurance put in. In addition, much of this money can be traced to illegals. It cannot be argued that illegal immigrants put a huge strain on our county medical budget.
So, Rory is looking for a private, not for profit hospital take over UMC. Two questions to the brilliant Reid Jr.- what private, not for profit hospital would be interested in taking over UMC? The buildings are old, it's in a bad location, bad roads/access and what are they going to do with the County employees? Fire them?
Second, why just a non-profit hospital? Why not a for-profit hospital. If they are willing to put in the investment and take over the hospital, why not a for profit hospital?
The other option for Reid to lower costs is to go to the county unions and beg them to open up the contracts and hope and pray the unions will actually decrease their pay. When the County opened up the contracts, all the unions did was reduce the COLA, from 3%-2 or 1% INCREASE.
Well, Mr. Reid, what if the unions say no, are you willing to make sweeping layoffs? I doubt it. Then what? Say pretty please with sugar on top?
One of the county' biggest unions is the Barney union, the SEIU. Harry and Rory will need them in 2010. Do you honestly think Dad will let Rory hurt the SEIU? Do you think Rory is going to diss the union in 2010 when he needs their help him in the governor's election.
Little Boy Rory is just building a smoke screen- saying he is fiscally conservative, when he is not- he is just another tax and spend liberal.
