In the aftermath of the Polish airline tragedy, where many of the Polish elite were killed in a plane crash in Russia. Among those killed were the president of Poland, generals, admirals, MP's, religious leaders and many more.
While the plane used in Poland was aged, the question I have is, can it happen to the U.S.?
While the probability of it happen is small, I think it could happen. As I detailed in a previous blog post, http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2010/02/air-force-1-damn-near-crashes-or-pilots.html , the pilots of AF1 were either reckless or showboating when they took off from McCarren Field, here in Vegas. The plane barely made it above the fences surrounding the airport and I could have thrown a baseball and hit the plane as it flew overhead.
Essentially, the pilots left no room for error and if something mechanical did happen to the plane, it could have crashed.
So, can an Air Force 1 crash like it did in Russia, doubtful, but not impossible.

I just read your blog about Air Force's take off from Vegas. Taking off that low is a tactical take off, it makes it harder for someone to engage the plane with a MANPAD (stinger). Better question is why they did not use Nellis AFB, and create less trouble for McCarren.
