I Agree With The Pastor, Kind Of

From the San Fran Chronicle:
There are two lessons to be learned from this week’s stories on a pastor who complained on a receipt about tipping a server “more than God.” One – don’t complain about things via restaurant receipt, thus providing stilted servers written evidence of your stinginess. Two – don’t post such complaints online if you’re a server and you want to keep your job.
St. Louis pastor Alois Bell, disagreed with an 18 percent gratuity charge added to her Applebee’s bill, and let it be known on her receipt, writing “I give God 10% why do you get 18″ and scratching out the gratuity charge, replacing it with a zero, TheSmokingGun.com reports.  http://blog.sfgate.com/hottopics/2013/01/31/waitress-fired-after-posting-controversial-pastor-receipt-on-reddit/
I'm from the school that a server has to earn their tips and if they do a bad job, they get a bad tip, if they do average job, they get an average tip and if they do a really good job, of course, they get a good tip.
But for a restaurant to mandate a tip, except in a large group setting, and that would have to be negotiable, is wrong, especially a 18% tip.
Unless the servers did a horrible job, the pastor should have given a tip, even a little one, after all, that is how most restaurant servers make their money.  If the pastor doesn't want to give a tip, then go to McDonalds or Burger King or another place where tipping is not necessary.
My guess is if the pastor goes out to another restaurant where tipping is allowed, her service isn't going to be the greatest.
