Here in Las Vegas, we have weather to die for. Highs in the low 70's and lows around 50 and no humidity. Of course, with my luck, this is the time my body decided to get sick with a cold.
In the first episode, at the beginning of the show, they found a stray dog with a collar- it looked like a pit bull mix, brindle and white in color, just what kind of dog Chumlee owns. When Chumlee wrote the sign, he said there was a $50 reward- Chumlee was to get the reward. A lady came in to claim the dog and she got to keep the dog. I still think the dog is owned by Chumlee.
The first guy brought in a Jennings nickel slot machine. The seller had a sore tooth and needed to sell. The guy wanted $1800 and Rick offered $1000 and then the guy haggled by himself down to $1250 and that was the selling price.
The next guy brought in a 1873 Winchester rifle from the Battle of Wounded Knee, however, there was no documentation saying it came from Wounded Knee. The guy waned $60,000 and time for an expert, Jeff Richardson, from the Autry National Center- a new guy/expert. http://theautry.org/
The seller said the gun was from the Indian side of the Battle. He called the Battle/massacre a great event....umm ok.
Jeff looked over the documents and said that the words "Wounded Knee". He thought the documents were real and the rifle came from Wounded Knee but he didn't say what it was worth. Rick offered $14,000. Rick still haggles like Les Gold on Hard Core Pawn. The guy came down to $50,000 and there was no sale.
The next guy brought in 3 posters for the Back to the Future II movie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_to_the_Future_Part_II
The guy wanted $600 for each posters. Time for an expert- Chumlee. The posters promoted the Nike shoes used in the film. Chumlee said they were not worth much and Corey offered $500 and then $550 and that was the deal.
In the 2nd episode, the first guy brought in a Cushman Scooter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cushman_(company)
It may have been used during World 2 and the engine of the scooter didn't work and was missing a few parts. The guy wanted $5000 and time for an expert, Bob. The scooter was from the 1920 and 1930's. Bob said this bike was really an off road bike built in the 1960's and pretended it was from the war. It was missing the gas tank, seat etc and worth $500. Restored $4500. Rick offered $300 and the guy came down to $1500 and then $500 and the Old Man said $400 and that was the sale price. Bob fixed it up to make it a yellow color and it cost $3200 and the sale price could be $5000.
The story line of the day was the silver coins that had the guys heads on them... except Chumlee. So, Chumlee wanted his coin. Rick wanted Chumlee to make a coin that looked like Benjamin Franklin. Chumlee took his idea to Sunshine Mints: http://www.sunshinemint.com/ The coin looked like a cross between Chumlee and Ben Franklin. The coin said Chumlee on it and it sold a few coins.
The next guy brought in a Bloody Sunday Bullet. http://www.museumoffreederry.org/history-bloody-events.html and
http://blogs.denverpost.com/captured/2010/06/15/captured-northern-irelands-bloody-sunday-report-released/
The guy said he had a bullet from the March, though it looked pretty big, the size of the dagger. It was a hard rubber bullet that was shot into the crowd and also a tear gas canister. The guy wanted $350 and Rick offered $100 and then $200 and there was coming down from the seller so there was no sale...Corey offered $350 and that was the selling point.
The next guy brought in some Silent Movie playing cards. He had pictures of Charlies Chaplin, Tom Mix and a bunch of unknown actors/actresses. Charlie Chaplin was the joker. The guy wanted $200 and Rick offered $75 and the sale price was $100.
Thanks for stopping by and see you again next week.
