Metro Crash Update: Exclusive Information

Today, Metro released the name of the injured officer who was hurt in the police car rollover that happened on Wednesday. From the Las Vegas Sun: The injured officer, identified Friday as 25-year-old David W. Nesheiwat, joined the department in July 2006.

New information about the crash: I have heard from a police officer who has contacts within Metro and they stated the skid marks are about 100 yards, or the length of a football field. I went by the crash scene and this account seems accurate, by the skid marks. This, to me indicates that they were going over the posted 45 MPH. As a traveller of Nellis Blvd on an almost nightly basis, the average speed is about 50MPH. To skid 100 yards, they had to have been going much faster than this. This has not been reported in any of of the local newspapers or TV reports.
Now, that doesn't mean the officers were doing anything wrong. Again, as a frequent traveller on Nellis at night, I have seen the saturation patrols and they will pull over someone at the drop of a hat. At times, you can go about every 5 blocks and you will see someone pulled over. It is quite possible that they were about to engage in a pursuit to pull someone over and they had begun to accelerate.

For funeral arrangements: "Funeral services for Beitel will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive, in Las Vegas, Metro announced. Interment will follow at Palm Mortuary and Memorial Park Green Valley, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
The route for the procession from the church to the cemetery has not been determined, Metro said.
Visitation for Beitel will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. A prayer vigil will follow starting at 7 p.m. and lasting about 30 minutes."(Again, from the Sun- good local reporting, terrible editorials))
There is a memorial at Nellis and Washington for Officer Beitel, next to Bucks Tavern. They do have a police officer stationed there 24 hours a day to thank those people who have dropped off flowers, cards etc.
