From Channel 13, Las Vegas: A young man died in an apartment complex Tuesday morning and new questions are being raised about whether his death could have been prevented.
The coroner has listed carbon monoxide poisoning as the official cause of death for 26 year-old Ian Noel, who firefighters say fell asleep after leaving a pot boiling on the stove in his apartment near Pecos and Hacienda.
Neighbor Jeannine Rinaldi actually called 911 four hours before Ian was found dead, after she smelt smoke in her apartment unit.
Firefighters from station 25 responded. ...The Clark County Fire Department says their firefighters left after a thorough check of the building showed no signs of smoke and no flames. A thermal imager didn't find anything out of the ordinary....The fire department says they go on smoke investigations all the time and most turn out to be nothing. They don't do door knocks at odd hours unless they have good reason. http://www.ktnv.com/global/story.asp?s=11651059
If the firefighters did smell smoke, as the resident did, maybe they should have knocked on a few doors. Some times, you can take things for granted after going on so many calls, that you may have overlooked the small stuff.
Bet next time, they may knock on a few more doors.

Maybe the firefighters didn't smell smoke. Women on average have a keener sense of smell than men.

Well, of course, you are presuming that there were no female members on the crew.
ReplyDeleteI'm merely stating a plausible scenario under which the firefighters may not have smelled the smoke that the neighbor (who we know is a woman) smelled.
