In 2007, just as the recession was hitting Las Vegas the City of Las Vegas council critters voted themselves a raise. Not a little raise, mind you, but a huge raise, from about $50,416 to $72,004. Almost a $20,000 per year raise for a part time job. in addition, the next mayor of Las Vegas will be getting a raise fro, $66,233 to about $130,000.
From the LVRJ:
Elected officials routinely struggle with thorny issues, but those seeking Las Vegas City Council posts next year will face one right off the bat: How much they're paid.
The issue has extra significance because most city employees have given up raises and even taken pay cuts to help the city make ends meet during the recession, while an ordinance passed in 2007 means the next council representatives from Wards 1, 3 and 5 will get raises.
Of the confirmed candidates so far, two said the raise is justified if council members treat the position as a full-time job while one person said the raise shouldn't be implemented.
http://www.lvrj.com/news/council-pay-issue-looms-111715424.html
So, you about 15% unemployment in the Las Vegas Valley, City of Las Vegas workers jobs are being cut and they are getting pay cuts. So, naturally, the Las Vegas council members think they deserve a $20,000 raise or roughly a 30% pay increase. This is on top of the other benefits the members get, like health care and money paid into the state pension fund.
Yes, the raises were voted on in 2007 or 3 years ago and just before the big recession hit government. However, they also could have rescinded the raise as well and they have not done that.
Talk about being tone deaf. City of Las Vegas council members just don't get it and when I think about this, I think of Bell, CA, when the powers in charge robbed the city blind with huge, unjustified pay raises.

CCSD Told To Cut 10+% Of It's Budget
CCSD officials met with Gov. Elect Brian Sandoval and his staff and were told to cut over 10% of it's budget for it's next budget.
From The Las Vegas Sun: Clark County school officials who met with Gov.-elect Brian Sandoval this week to discuss the budget described the tone as gloomy and were told to brace for cuts in excess of 10 percent.
Walt Rulffes, the outgoing Clark County schools superintendent, said Tuesday’s meeting was profoundly pessimistic.
Carolyn Edwards, vice president of the school board, said the budget outlook is “not going to be pretty; we all know that.”
Gov. Jim Gibbons had asked all state agencies to assume budget cuts of at least 10 percent. But public schools, including the Clark County district, and colleges, including UNLV, have resisted cuts of that magnitude.
On Tuesday, Dale Erquiaga, Sandoval’s senior adviser and a former financial analyst for the Clark County School District, told school officials that cuts will be “something in excess of that,” Rulffes said.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/dec/09/school-officials-told-brace-cuts-excess-10-percent/
CCSD's budget is a little over $2 billion, which means we are looking at a potential cut of $200 million.
Will it be easy to cut another $200,000,000? Of course not, but there are some cuts the District can do.
First, go back to the staffing levels to the Fall of 2010, which will negate the awful $58,000,000 the District got from the Feds as part some stimulus money.
Second, look at busing of students. At the high school I teach at, we have as low as 1 or 2 kids getting off a special education bus and not much better for the larger buses that are used as part of the Magnet program.
Third, Contract out for certain services, such as plumbing, electricians, painters, gardeners and other skilled positions.
Fourth, put the health care contract up for bids. Is Teacher's Health Trust the cheapest health insurance out there?
Fifth, Get rid of staff development days.
Sixth, a 5% cut in pay to teachers and administrators in exchange for furlough days, which could be staff development days.
Sixth, stop paying teachers and other staff to attend classes or go listen to speakers.
While this may not save all $200,000,000, it is close. It's not a great inconvenience but the savings will help the district save some serious money.

Another Embarassing Obama Moment
It never ceases to amaze me how politicians, especially President Obama, are totally clueless.
Today, Obama and Bill Clinton held a press conference, where they were talking about the deal between the GOP and Obama regarding the tax hikes, unemployment compensation and other goodies.
Apparently, Obama had a scheduling conflict with a Christmas party and the news conference. Well, the Christmas party won out and Obama left the stage to Bill Clinton. And Bill Clinton took full advantage of it and had the time of his life.
Maybe this is a precursor of Bill Clinton for President in 2012. If decided to run, he would beat Obama in the primary and more than likely, beat any GOP candidate.

Man Gets 10-25 Years In Prison For Spitting On His Girlfriend
From The Pahrump Valley Times: Timothy Lee Hobbs is no angel. With six felony convictions and at least two misdemeanor domestic batteries on his record, he might just deserve to be where he is — withering away at High Desert State Prison.Hobbs received a stiff 10- to 25-year sentence in 2009 for spitting on his ex-girlfriend during a heated argument at a Pahrump hair salon the year before. The 44-year-old was charged with three crimes: injury to property, a gross misdemeanor; domestic battery, his third such offense and thus a Class C felony; and because of his record, he faced tougher punishment as a habitual criminal.District Judge John Davis instructed the jury in the Hobbs case to consider spitting a battery. They agreed with prosecutors that Hobbs indeed battered his girlfriend when he spit on her. And the judge agreed that Hobbs was a habitual offender and a twice-convicted domestic batterer. The long sentence was passed down in 2009.Hobbs’ attorney, local public defender Harry Kuehn, filed an appeal of the domestic battery charge and the habitual offender enhancement shortly thereafter....
The defense attorney says: Kuehn disagrees, citing his own mound of case law.“Many states have addressed spitting, but have a different definition of battery. It’s not a forceful or violent act, just a disgusting act,” Kuehn said.
The DA says: White said he’s confident his argument that spitting constitutes battery under state law will prevail.“Everyone defines spitting as battery,” he said, referring to the mountain of case law he cites in his answer to Hobbs’ appeal.
http://pvtimes.com/news/state-supremem-court-to-hear-local-appeal/
I'm almost sympathetic to the thug. Spitting is disgusting, but worth 10-25 years in prison? What would he have gotten if had actually hit the woman? If he actually injured her? Spitting cheapens a battery charge.
Shoot, a guy got 10 years for killing two people, including a police officer just got ten years.
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/W/WI_FATAL_SHOOTING_JEFFERSON_WIOL-?SITE=WIMAR&SECTION=STATE&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT
This thug is a pathetic human being and should be kept away from women. But not this way. Jail time yes, but not 10-25 years for spitting which did not cause injury and could have been wiped off by a Kleenex.
But here's some dating advice for women: If a guy has 6 felony convictions, it is probably best not to date them. (probably the same advice goes to a man)

Las Vegas Police Blotter
Metro has been pretty busy with arrests the last few days. Makes me wonder if the detectives are getting paid on commission based on the number of crimes they solve.
Regarding the Red Rock graffiti- From the Sun: Metro Police said ancient art vandalized at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area was probably targeted because of the high-profile nature of the damage.
Police have identified more than 500 different tagging crews in Las Vegas — gangs of graffiti vandals — but they frequently change their names so it's difficult to say how many are active at any given time, said Detective Scott Black, of Metro's graffiti section in the gang crimes bureau.
"The motivation that the graffiti vandals have is to cause extremely destructive damage," he said. "They like a lot of shock value. While they go around and tag light posts and powers boxes, if they tag more high-profile locations, it does increase their status."
Given that mindset, police believe the Red Rock Canyon area was a planned target of the tagging crew.
Police enlisted the help of the U.S. Marshal's Service on Wednesday to find the 17-year-old allegedly responsible for the Red Rock graffiti in late November. He has been charged with placing graffiti with a gang enhancement, a felony that carries a possible five-year jail
sentence and a fine up to $100,000, authorities said.

As Oscar Goodman has said in the past, off with his thumb.
In regards to the cold stone bitch wife of a Nellis Airman, she was finally arrested: The wife of a Nellis airman who was shot to death Dec. 1 was arrested Thursday in connection with his murder, Metro Police said.
Michelle Paet, 29, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Thursday afternoon. She is the fourth person arrested in connection with the death of Staff Sgt. Nathan Paet.
Michelle Paet was being held without bail on suspicion of murder with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit burglary. Police said Paet is under suicide watch. Authorities released her driver's license photo late Thursday afternoon.

Umm, let her commit suicide. She has already cost her four kids their father and now their mother. She doesn't need to live anymore. She doesn't have a soul and if she does, it's going straight to hell when she dies. Why delay it?

Drudge Report Sued By Denver Post and Righthaven
Matt Drudge and the Drudgereport have been sued by Righthaven for putting on his blog a picture that was printed in the Denver Post.
From the Las Vegas Sun: "Las Vegas copyright enforcement company Righthaven LLC on Wednesday filed its second copyright infringement lawsuit over Denver Post material, this time suing a big target: Drudge Report operator Matt Drudge.
The suit, filed in U.S. District Court for Nevada, charges a Nov. 18 Denver Post "illustration" called "Transportation Security Administration agents perform enhanced pat-downs" was posted without authorization the same day on the Drudge Report website as well as the drudgereportarchives.com site.
A court exhibit, however, indicates the illustration is actually a Denver Post photograph of a TSA officer patting down a passenger at Denver International Airport. Righthaven usually sues over unauthorized online postings of news stories, columns and editorials. Lately it has sued over alleged infringements involving graphics and, now, a photograph."
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/dec/09/drudge-report-owner-sued-righthaven/
Hmm, Drudge has a top 50 web site in the U.S. and he has made a lo of money off the site. So, he will probably fight the suit over a bunch of lawyer bumpkins.
The bumpkin lawyers are asking for Drudge's domain address. I will bet a million dollars that ain't going to happen.

Firefighters and Others "Murdered" By Aircraft Company, FAA And U.S. Forest Service
From Firehouse.com: A firefighting helicopter crash that killed nine people two years ago was caused by deceptions on the part of the company that leased the aircraft to the U.S. Forest Service and a lack of federal safety oversight, the National Transportation Safety Board determined Tuesday.
Carson Helicopters of Grants Pass, Ore., intentionally altered documents to exaggerate the helicopter's performance capabilities in order to win a Forest Service contract, the board said.
But the Federal Aviation Administration and the Forest Service missed several opportunities to uncover those problems, the board said.
"This accident had more to do with Carson's actions than the oversight entities' inactions," NTSB chairman Deborah Hersman said. "But the FAA and the Forest Service didn't hold up their end of the deal to oversee Carson's actions."
The accident points to a larger problem of a lack of safety oversight of nonmilitary aircraft operations by federal, state and local government agencies, board members said. FAA has said it doesn't have the authority to oversee the aircraft operations of other agencies.
Government aircraft operations "have no parent and no one wants to be responsible for them," Hersman said.
NTSB has alerted the Department of Transportation's Inspector General that Carson's actions may merit a criminal investigation, Hersman said.
The board's investigation showed the Sikorsky S-61N helicopter weighed 19,008 pounds when pilots tried to take off from a rugged mountaintop clearing near Weaverville, Calif., on Aug. 5, 2008. But the maximum weight to lift off at full power with no margin to spare was 18,445 pounds, they said. If Forest Service guidelines - which include a safety margin - had been followed, the weight shouldn't have exceeded 15,840 pounds, investigators said.
http://www.firehouse.com/topics/wildland/layers-failure-cited-fatal-wildfire-chopper-crash
This is a case of corporate greed and government incompetence and the people responsible should be prosecuted criminally for murder. Nothing less should be acceptable.

I Remember When Barbara Walters Was A Respected Journalist
When Barbara Walters was a real journalist, she was very good.
I guess times have changed and Walters is just another sleazy journalist when she interviewed Oprah Winfrey and asked Winfrey about being a lesbian.
Umm, who cares and does it really matter?
Oprah Winfrey says she's not a lesbian, not even a little bit. Her long personal and professional connection with Gayle King has sparked rumors that they are gay, but Winfrey denies it in an upcoming interview with ABC's Barbara Walters.
"I'm not even kind of a lesbian," Winfrey says.
Persistent gossip to the contrary annoys her, she says, explaining that, if it were true, "Why would you want to hide it? That is not the way I run my life."

Metro Homocide Is On A Roll
Kudos to the Metro Homicide unit for solving 3 difficult homicides.
First, Metro solved the case where a drug dealer killed a 15 year old girl over a drug debt.
From the Sun: A Las Vegas man who had been feuding with 15-year-old Alexus Postorino's father was arrested for allegedly killing her and critically injuring a man while invading a southwest valley home Monday morning.
Metro Police arrested Norman Belcher, 35, and charged him with murder with a deadly weapon, attempted murder with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon and burglary with a deadly weapon, according to an arrest report released Tuesday.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/dec/07/man-nabbed-teen-girls-death/
Then Metro solved the murder of the Nellis Airman. (see below)
Now, comes word that Metro solved the crime where 2 thugettes snatched a purse from a 95 year old woman, who suffered a boken hip. She died a copule of weeks later.
From the Sun: Metro Police arrested two women in connection with the July attempted robbery and death of a 95-year-old woman in a grocery store parking lot.
Teresa Meamber, 30, and Kierstie Manning, 19, face charges of murder of a victim over 60, attempted robbery, consipiracy to commit robbery and willful/wanton disregard of human life. Both women are being held at Clark County Detention Center without bail.
Shortly before 10 a.m. July 26, Metro received a 911 call reporting an attempted robbery in the Smith's parking lot in the 4800 block of West Desert Inn Road. Police said 95-year-old Betha Meier was walking through the parking lot when one of the women tried to steal her purse.
Police said Meier was dragged to the ground and as witnesses tried to intervene, the woman fled in a car northbound on Decatur.
Meier was taken to the hospital for treatment and died Aug. 16 as a result of her injuries, police said.

Hopefully, Metro can solve some more crimes, but this has been a good week for Metro, bad week for the criminals and of course, bad week for the victims.

Talk About A Stone Cold Bitch
The other day, a Airman at Nellis was shot down in cold blood at his home at 11:30 at night, while the Airman prepared to work. This shooting had all the makings of a hit.
From the Sun: Metro Police have arrested three people who investigators say were motivated by greed in connection with the murder of a Nellis airman last week — and police expect to make more arrests.
Police arrested Michael Rudolph Rodriguez, 31, and Corry A. Hawkins, 33, on suspicion of murder with a deadly weapon, burglary with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit burglary and prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
A third suspect — 23-year-old Jessica Austin — was arrested in connection with murder with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit murder.
Police said they believe the suspects thought they would profit from the death of Staff Sgt. Nathan Paet, who was shot last week in the garage of his home in Mountain's Edge while leaving for work.
Authorities received a 911 call at 11:31 p.m. Dec. 1 reporting a man was shot at his home in the 9200 block of Alta Monte Court, near Mountain's Edge Parkway and Durango Drive in the southwest Las Vegas Valley. Paet was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/dec/08/police-arrest-3-shooting-death-nellis-airman/
The LVRJ is saying that the wife is behind the killing but has not arrested her yet. The suspects were after the life insurance on the Sgt. Paet.
The wife apparently knew Sgt. was going to be killed and she was at home with her 4 children as Sgt. Paet was shot and rushed inside to get help.
This "wife" has to be one hell of a stone cold bitch to go through the shooting with her kids at her side while her husband laid on the floor dying. Then she lied to the cops afterwards.
Hopefully, she and cohorts will get the death penalty.

Another Reason Why Dina Titus Is Unfit For Congress
From The Las Vegas Sun: Rep. Dina Titus’ time on Capitol Hill is almost concluded, but she’s taking up one last fight, with the help of the House: a bill to help reduce childhood hunger.
The “Weekends Without Hunger” bill, which passed the House by voice vote early this afternoon, is an attempt to bridge the gap between school days, when children usually dependent on nutritional assistance don’t have meals to depend on...Titus’ bill would establish a five-year pilot program to outfit schools and food banks with $10 million of food commodities each year: enough for about 3 million food backpacks of the sort that are currently being distributed in Clark County by such centers as Three Square to about 5,200 kids every weekend.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/blogs/policy-racket/2010/dec/08/dina-titus-pushes-weekends-without-hunger-bill/
So, now Dina Titus and House Democrats want schools and food banks responsible for kid's meals on weekends, holidays and presumably Spring, Summer and Winter breaks.
Apparently Titus and her brain damaged ilk don't think parents have no responsibility in raising their kids.
Are you telling me, that a family with food stamps, access to food banks, Churches, social service agencies and or at least friends and neighbors, that family cannot feed their children over a weekend?
Schools already feed these families 2/3 of their meals during the usual work week. Government does not have the obligation to feed the kids during the weekend. It's time for these lazy ass parents to get off their butts and be responsible.
This just shows how pathetic and brain dead Democrats, Dina Titus and any GOP member who voted this, are. But then Dina Titus, a person who never held a real job in her life, knows nothing about responsibility.

Good For CCSD: They Are Playing True Christmas Music In Their Orchestra
I've been listening to my son practicing his trumpet in preparation of his "Winter" concert. Surprisingly, he is playing actual Christian Christmas songs, like "O Come All Ye Faithful" along with non-Christian holiday songs, like "Jingle Bells".
Good for the teacher and the district in allowing this.
Hope he has a job after next week.

OOOPS!!! Those That Exhausted Their Unemployment Benefits: Obama Just Threw You Under The Bus
Last night it appeared that with the new deal between Obama and the GOP included an extension of unemployment benefits to those who exhausted their unemployment benefits.
Ooops, not so fast. From the LVRJ: "The 26,893 Nevadans who have exhausted all state and federal unemployment benefits won't be getting any additional assistance through the agreement between President Barack Obama and Republicans in Congress to extend benefits for another 13 months.
Cindy Jones, the state Employment Security Division administrator, said Tuesday that major media outlets across the country have incorrectly reported that benefits for everyone, including those who have exhausted their benefits, would be extended by the deal.
She said the agreement does not add a new tier 5 of benefits for people who have received unemployment benefits for the maximum 99 weeks."
http://www.lvrj.com/news/nevadans-who-have-exhausted-unemployment-benefits-won-t-get-extension-111463934.html
I have to admit, I am surprised by this and if they extended the benefits of those who exhausted their unemployment checks, I would not have lost sleep over it.
But President Obama just threw the Democrats and the long term unemployed under the bus.
No wonder the left is pissed with him.

We Still Remember: December 7, 1941 A Day That Will Live In Infamy
Obama Gears Up For 2012 Re-Election By Acting Like A Republican
President Obama and the GOP (sorry Dem's, but Obama just threw you under the bus) worked out a deal for extending tax cuts, extending unemployment AND reducing FICA taxes.
From Fox News: "The "framework" of the deal that Obama outlined Monday evening calls for a two-year extension of the cuts in all income tax brackets. It also would extend long-term unemployment benefits through next year. The estate tax rate would be renewed, but at a lower rate than even during the Bush administration. And the Obama administration is proposing a one-year payroll tax reduction that sources say would cut the amount contributed to Social Security from 6.2 percent to 4.2 percent.
"I have no doubt that everyone will find something in this compromise that they don't like," Obama said, but "we cannot play politics at a time when the American people are looking for us to solve problems." He said letting taxes increase for all Americans would create a chilling effect on the economy."
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/12/06/obama-proposes-payroll-tax-reduction-deal-taking-shape-bush-tax-cuts/
I have a problem extending unemployment benefits for another year, making benefits available for almost 3 years. The estate tax should still be $0. The Social Security tax cut is nice, but will it effect the solvency of Social Security? Of, course this do not effect me as I pay no social security tax because of my job.
Harry Reid was not excited nor were liberals, as they were shoved under the bus by Obama. Did the liberals feel the tires running over them and do they have tread marks on their GAP shirts?

Pawn Stars Review: Decembver 6, 2010
Las Vegas is recovering from a heck of a weekend. We had NASCAR, the National Finals Rodeo, a marathon race that attracted 28,000 runners and the American Country Music Awards just this past weekend. Time to relax for a new Pawns stars episode, or in this case, Chumlee behaves like my big dumb dopey dog episodes.
In the first episode, the first guy brought in a Navy searchlight from 1944 and from a PT boat. The guy wanted around $1500. Rick offered $800 because the light could not be associated with a particular ship. The light went for $1000.
The next guy brought in a hat that was supposedly worn by John Wayne. So far, Chumlee has been in 2 scenes and acted like a total ass in both segments. The hat was supposedly worn in a movie. It was a prop hat and there was no proof that it was worn by John Wayne. Time for an expert. Mark Allen from Western Stage Props. He determined that the hat size was too small. There was no sale.
The next guy brought in a Rembrandt etching and Chumlee is in this scene and acted like a stupid fool for a 3rd time. The Rembrandt was supposedly found in a garage sale and bought for $10. This was more of an etching than a painting. Time for another expert. Brett came in from Art Encounter. Brett said it was a Rembrandt etching. He thought the value was $3000. The guy want $1500 and Rick offered $1200 and that was the sale price. Nice profit.
The next guy had a Howard by Baldwin baby grand piano with ivory keys. It was out of tune. They guy wanted $1500 for it and Rick offered $900 and that was a sale. Chumlee and the guys had to pick up the piano from the home, which weighed several hundred pounds.
The next lady brought in a Jolly Musical Chap, which is a monkey with symbols that moved. The thing still worked and it was loud. She wanted $100. The Old Man took the offer and then offered $150. Hmmm.
The last guy brought in a 1977 bleacher seat from the old Yankee Stadium that was supposed to been hit by a Reggie Jackson home run in the World Series. Rick offered $75. They guy wanted $1000. No sale.
None of these items were in the store when we visited the Gold and Silver Shop this past Saturday.
In the 2nd episode, the first guy brought in an old miniature slot machine. This machine was in the shop on Saturday. The machine was from Colorado, so it took tokens not money. They opened it up and not much was inside. They guy wanted $600 and Rick took the offer.
The next guy had a CJ-5 Jeep from 1973. It was in rough shape. They guy put on a fiberglass tub/body. It looked pretty ugly. The guy wanted $2500. Corey and the Old Man offered $1500 and then $1800 and that was the sale price. Danny was given the Jeep to work on. They brought out a ugly puke green Jeep. They said it was an army jeep flavor- umm no. It cost $5500 to restore for a total of $7300. Not worth it. They went off roading afterwards.
The next guy brought a 1861 Gold Piece from a bails bonds man. He owed $50,000 on a bond. Time for an expert. Andrew came in from American Coin Express. He gave it a grade of 63, which made the coin worth $40,000. Rick offered $30,000. The guy countered with $35,000. It went for $34,000. Wonder if they have to do special tax forms?
The next guy brought in old NASA pictures and negatives from Apollo 17. 29 pictures and 29 negatives. Time for an expert, Mark, from the Clark County Museum and the McCarren Airport museum. He said that the negatives were actually positives, which were put out by NASA in the form of a press kit. They were not rare and there was no sale.
Chumlee was not present in most segments, so we were not treated to a Chumlee acts like a dumb ass episode.
Have a nice week and more new episodes next week.

Stupid Criminal News
One more from jsonline: A 19-year-old Muskego man was arrested Sunday night after a 10-year-old boy got a wrong-number text message asking, "You want to buy some hash?"
Turns out that the boy's grandfather is a Wisconsin state trooper and the youth was at granddad's home when the 6 p.m. text message arrived.
The boy didn't know what the strange message meant. But when his grandfather saw it, he called colleague Sgt. Nate Clarke, who set in motion a plan to bust the Muskego man.
Clarke and other on-duty troopers then sent a message back to the alleged dealer saying, "Yes we would" and then arranged through other text messages the amount of hash and where to meet the man to make the deal, Clarke said....
The man arrived at the specified Muskego-area location and left when nobody showed up for the 10 p.m. buy, Clarke said.
Troopers followed the man to his residence and arrested him, Clarke said.
The man's vehicle and residence were searched, Clarke said. Troopers found a baggie in the vehicle containing 5 grams of hash. The searches also turned drug paraphernalia believed used to smoke marijuana and a prescription bottle with 1.5 grams of hash inside it, Clarke said.

RNC Chief To Get Challenge
From jsonline: State GOP chair Reince Priebus has jumped into a tumultuous race to be the Republican Party's next national chairman, telling fellow party members he would bring "less drama, more hard work, more results and more focus on winning.”
That message is an indictment of current chairman Michael Steele, whose controversial public profile and management of the party organization has alienated many committee members despite the GOP’s remarkable performance in the 2010 mid-term election.
Priebus had been a key ally of Steele’s. He ran Steele’s campaign for RNC chair last year, was asked by Steele to head his transition committee and has been serving as RNC general counsel under Steele, a post Priebus has now resigned in order to run for chairman.
But in a video message accompanying an e-mail Priebus sent to RNC members, the Wisconsin lawyer said: “I don’t believe we can win the presidency without a highly functional RNC, and unfortunately we don’t have that today.”
http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/news/111383274.html
I know a lot of people don't care for Michael Steele and the Wisconsin conservative bloggers like Priebus, but you cannot argue with the success of this past election.
How can Priebus and other candidates top this past election? If they can improve from this past election, more power to them and vote for them. But if they cannot guarantee a better result than this past election, then I vote for Michael Steele.

Kathy Griffin, proving once again that she has as much class as pond scum on a settling pond at a water treatment plant, got booed by service members when she ripped on Bristol Palin.

R.I P. Hank Raymonds
Hank Raymonds a former head coach for the Marquette Warriors and assistant coach under Al McGuire when they won the NCAA national championship, passed away today at the age of 86.
From jsonline: Henry "Hank" Raymonds was perhaps best known for the 126 wins he compiled as head men's basketball coach at Marquette University, and before that for serving as Al McGuire's top assistant during the team's NCAA championship run in the late 1970s.
But it was Raymonds' humanity and grace that helped set him apart. From his never-ending concern for and loyalty to his former players to his love for all things MU, Raymonds was a familiar and friendly face for nearly a half-century on the school's downtown Milwaukee campus.
Raymonds died on Monday after a long battle with cancer. He was 86.
"A lot of coaches really enjoy the limelight, and they relish it, they seek it. But Hank was not like that," said George Thompson, who first played for Raymonds, then also the coach of MU's freshman team, in 1965. "He was just content to turn out decent ballplayers and better people, and he took great pride in seeing the guys that he coached leave Marquette and come back or stay here and contribute to society and be a part of the community and try to do the right thing.
"Pass it along to the next generation of guys."
http://www.jsonline.com/sports/goldeneagles/111378344.html
I got to know Raymonds for a few years after he retired from coaching. My dad worked at Marquette in the media relations department for athletics and I talked to Raymonds on several occasions. Raymonds was a genuinely nice man.

I Might Become Like Most People!!
This weekend, on ABC Family TV, I watched my first Harry Potter movies ever.
Now, maybe I will have to watch ET, Star Wars and other blockbuster movies for the first time. Maybe even a Seinfeld or Friends episode for the first time. Well, I don't think I want to go to that far.
I smell a New Years Resolution!

How Horrible
From Fox News:
A Griswold, Conn., man shot and killed his son Saturday night after the son repeatedly stabbed the man and his wife, the Hartford Courant reported Sunday.
Police said David Gemeasky Jr., 24, entered the bedroom of a home in Griswold, about 50 miles east of Hartford, Conn., around 7:40 p.m. Saturday and began stabbing his father, David Gemeasky Sr. He then attacked his mother, Tamara Brennan, as she tried to run away.
David Gemeasky Sr. was able to get his shotgun and fatally shoot his son despite suffering from serious stab wounds. David Gemeasky Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene.
David Gemeasky Sr. and Brennan were taken to a local hospital. Brennan was treated and released, and David Gemeasky Sr. was in stable condition Sunday, a hospital spokesperson said.

I just cannot imagine the pain and anguish the father felt after he had to kill his son to save himself and his wife. Just a horrible situation.

Badgers To Rose Bowl And Other Intersting Bowl Games
The Wisconsin Badgers are going officially going to the Rose Bowl which will played on January 1 in Pasadena CA. They will play TCU and the game will be on ESPN.
Other interesting items from the Bowl schedule:
All three military academies will play in a bowl game. Navy will play in the Poinsettia, Air Force in the Independence and Army will play in the Armed Forces Bowl. The last time this happened was in 1963.
The Las Vegas Bowl will be one of the best bowls, including the BCS games when Boise state plays Utah.
Oklahoma plays UConn in the Fiesta Bowl and my prediction is that game will be a blow out with Oklahoma winning by at least 30.
University of Nevada -Reno will play in the Fight Hunger Bowl against Boston College.
The state of Florida has 6 teams in the bowl games.
Does anybody care about the GoDaddy Bowl? Middle Tennessee vs Miami of Ohio? Maybe GoDaddy ought to stick to NASCAR and Danica Patrick.
Will This be Joe Pa's last game when Penn State plays Florida in the Outback Bowl?
If I were Hawaii University, I'd be pissed to be playing in the Hawaii Bowl. However, Tulsa, I am sure loves the opportunity. I am also sure that a team like Northwestern, Northern Illinois, Michigan and other cold weather cities would have liked to play in Hawaii on December 24th.
The Military Bowl doesn't have any military academies in the game.
There are 35 games, using 70 teams. There are 120 FBS teams Division 1 teams. You really have to be a bad team to not play in a Bowl game. Sorry, UNLV, maybe next year.
Let the Bowl games begin!!

Some Questions About Wiki Leaks Source: Pfc Bradley Manning
U.S. Army Pfc (Private first class) Bradley Manning is accused of being the source for the WikiLeaks of secret U.S. diplomatic and other secret memos and assorted material.
Some questions:
1. According to Wales online, Bradley faces 52 years in prison for the release of the documents. 52 years??? Private Bradley Manning, 23, is facing 52 years in prison for allegedly passing hundreds of thousands of diplomatic cables and releasing military logs to the WikiLeaks website.Read More http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/2010/12/05/welsh-schoolboy-at-the-centre-of-wikileaks-row-91466-27768763/#ixzz17IHJYgpv
2. It is reported by many different sources that Manning is gay. Why hasn't that been an issue and it could be different issues involved. An issue maybe the abuse that Manning got from fellow soldiers because he was gay. Another issue could be how this would relate to Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Still another issue could be the wisdom of giving top secret clearance to gays.
These are issues that should be discussed, one way or another- not hidden like they are now. I would think that gays would want these issues to be discussed to disprove the fear of getting rid of DADT.
3. According to Wales online: His family, including his mum Susan who suffers ill health after a series of strokes, is understood to have flown out from Wales to the US to visit him. However, despite their trip, it is understood the request to visit the 23-year-old soldier, who is being held in solitary confinement, was turned down. I am no fan of Manning, obviously, but he can't even have a visit with his mother under close supervision?
4. The friends told Channel 4 news that, as a teenager in Pembrokeshire, he had been determined to “right a big wrong” and was picked on in school If his friends in school thought he could right a big wrong, what kind of security investigation did the military do to give Manning a top secret clearance? Obviously, there were some signs that Manning had some issues growing up. Seems like the people who investigate people who want top secret clearances need to asked questions as well. Did these investigators know he was gay and that he was bullied in school? Did they know or ask about is mental stability? Did the investigators go to Wales, in the United Kingdom and investigate Manning?
These are some questions that need to asked and investigated. But I fear, because Manning is gay, the politically correct media will side step the issues and ignore things that need to be investigated.

Supposed "Homeless" Author Loses My Sympathy
There has been an writer, who through bad luck, illness and apparently, poor writing skills, has been penning a series of what it is like being part of the new "homeless" in Las Vegas.
Roger Jacobs is a wannabe writer who has had bad luck because he has been out of work for sometime. He is also not selling or editing too many books or articles.
He also is medically disabled: From the Sun: "I have been afflicted with severe psoriasis and advanced psoriatic arthropathy (arthritis) for eight years; several months of the year I must use an electric wheelchair just to get from one room to another due to severe plaque psoriasis on my feet. I am also plagued by hypertension, gout, GERD, perennial allergies, the early stages of COPD and bipolar disorder. Lela is 52 years old and not in the best physical condition herself." http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/aug/29/i-am-frightened/
Initially, I felt sorry for the man and his girlfriend. In my past, I have been financially as bad or worse off than Jacobs when I was living in Montana. I was broke and according to his definition, "homeless", by living in a hotel, while trying to live on odd jobs. It was the low part of my life. So, what did I do? I left Montana and went back home to live with my mom. Within 2 days of getting back, I had a job and within 2 weeks, I was back out on my own, working my way up to where I am today.
And before anyone says I don't know what the homeless goes through, I might add, I also worked in a Salvation Army homeless shelter in Wausau, WI. ( a true homeless shelter- not a hotel suite with a bedroom and private bathrooms along with the lack of privacy), in addition to volunteering with the homeless and with the Salvation Army.
Anyways, I understand the financial problems Jacobs has. He actually has it better than I did. Seigel Suits, while not perfect, isn't that bad either. Utilities are paid for and at most Seigel, you get at least one meal a day, or at least that is what they advertise.
However, in his article today, he bitches about how conservatives have hurt him with mean words.. From today's article: Even more stinging has been the reaction by many readers to my first essay on being homeless in Las Vegas — mean-spirited remarks that have fueled my decision to leave town...
Well, after reading his first essay, there is only one comment listed and it was posted September 26. (see the above link) So, did the Sun make those comments disappear or there were no mean spirited remarks. Honestly, I don't know which one.
Jacobs goes on: But any warmth of kindness was lost to judgmental creatures wrapped in their conservative ideology and intoxicated by their own venomous rhetoric. (One reader, Ron, called me a “lazy, lazy lazy loser” and worse
After looking at the comments section on his first and second articles, I could not find a comment made by a "Ron". Hmmm. Further, how did you know "Ron" was a conservative? Oh, wait, if a person makes disparaging remarks about homeless people, they automatically are conservative. That kind of thinking makes me think Jacobs is writing these articles with the sole purpose of politicizing homelessness by ripping on conservatives.
More from today's article: "My occupation also came under the hateful scrutiny of the Sun’s readers with many suggesting that I must be a failure as a writer because I don’t share the success of Stephen King. Just because fame hasn’t conferred any external interest in my work does not make me a failure by any stretch of the imagination. Shall we confer the word “failure” upon a plumber, carpenter or an architect whose hard work did not allow them to open their own business? Shall we deem an exemplary chef a failure for never seeing his name above the marquee of a trendy bistro?"
Jacobs has been writing for twenty years or so. He is not making a living at it. If the plumber, carpenter and chef worked and made a living working for someone else, they would not be considered a failure because they are earning money and paying their bills. However, if you spend 20 years doing something you enjoy but not making enough to pay your bills, no I would not consider your career a success. Maybe if you worked part time while working on your writing, maybe Jacobs would not be in his situation. (drinking and smoking isn't helping your situation either, I might add- don't cry me a river of crocodile tears about money problems when you are paying $3-4 for a pack of cigarettes)
More from the article: “The plight of the new homeless often includes ridicule and insensitivity. When I found myself in a transient situation, I was amazed at how quickly some Christians whose love is ‘always patient and kind’ (1 Cor. 13:4) lost patience and turned unkind … Many will take the low road and, instead of giving compassion, will make complaint. So be it. It is not for me to judge (Rodger), nor those who judged him. It is mine only to pray and be moved to action.”
Earth to Jacobs: You put yourself in that position. You decided to write the articles and lay it on the line. What did you expect? Everyone just patting you on the back and say good luck and give you money?
Jacobs put himself in that position and he further invited more scrutiny and ridicule by debating comments in the comment section in his second article. He obviously was trolling for negative comments, both in his articles and comments so he could write his third article saying "hey I told you so, people are so mean to us homeless people".
Finally, this: "How to meet our daily needs while we must remain in Las Vegas (where we don’t want to be and, according to many who commented, where we are not wanted) and how to set aside enough money to carry us across the desert and into a suitable living space with reserves for deposits and at least two months of rent."
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/dec/05/indignity-hurtful-speech/
So, according to Jacobs, he is not leaving Las Vegas until they have a suitable home and two months rent. Hmm. And how is he going to do that now? He bitches about not wanting to be in Las Vegas but he makes it impossible for him and his girlfriend to leave. Obviously, he must like it here enough to live and but then bitches about how badly us conservatives treat him with words. Somehow, I think he is playing us like a fiddle to put across his political viewpoints.
I do hope Mr. Jacobs succeeds in his writing and that he will make it big in writing sometime. However, in the mean time, he is not get any more of my sympathy because of his bitching and moaning about mean conservatives, deciding to drink and smoke cigarettes at the same time he says he has no money and wants to move back to California.
If Jacobs wants people to support him and his cause, name calling is not going to do it. Hard work and trying to improve one's self, no matter what age, will do far more good.
Finally, Jacobs, don't call yourself homeless. You are not living on the streets or a homeless shelter. You are living in a 1 bedroom apartment that is heated, utilities provided for, a bed and furniture in the apartment. Even a TV with basic cable. That's homeless? Very strange definition and hurtful to those who are truly homeless. When you say you are homeless, you are insulting those who are truly homeless and have to live on the streets or a homeless shelter.

Las Vegas MAACO Bowl Maybe One Of The Best In The Countyr
From the Las Vegas Sun: One of the best teams in the nation could be headed to Las Vegas for the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas on Dec. 22.
Multiple media outlets, including the Salt Lake Tribune, are reporting that Boise State on Sunday will accept a bid to face Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl.
No. 11 Boise State (11-1) finished in a three-way tie at the top of the Western Athletic Conference standings with No. 17 UNR and Hawaii. The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl has the first WAC selection and extended a bid to UNR Saturday evening.
After the Wolf Pack accepted, it opened the door for Boise State to wind up in Las Vegas. According to Boise media reports, including the Idaho Press-Tribune, Boise State was campaigning to wind up in Las Vegas after falling last week to UNR.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/dec/05/report-boise-state-will-face-utah-maaco-bowl-las-v/
Utah and Boise state are both very, very good football teams. Both went undefeated last year and have only 3 losses combined this year.
While the game may look like a regional affair, it's not, as both teams are very, very good and if BSU wins, they may be ranked in the top 10 in the final polling. If Utah wins, they will be in the top 15 or better.
The game should get good ratings on TV and will be a sell out at Sam Boyd Stadium. This is great news for Las Vegas.

Government Ideas For School Fundraising
A South Dakota government is angry because schools are making money by selling pizza, candy and other supposed unhealthy foods.
Well, the government has come out with a list of fund raising possibilities. Seriously, these are some of the Fed's ideas, showing they don't live in the real world:
1. Elephant rides (try finding an elephant in Vegas that gives rides and will come to a school)
2. Mistletoe (nothing like adding to the pregnancy problems)
3. Picnic Baskets (does anyone still use one?)
4. Fresh vegetables (they don't even serve fresh veggies, except in salads, in the school cafeteria)
5. Horseshoe tournament (I didn't know any 80 year olds were in high school)
6. Bingo Night (see above)
7. Giant Game of Musical Chairs (just shaking my head at that one)
8. Spelling Bee (to raise money?)
9. Work shop or classes (yeah, the kids will raise money to go to class)
10. Magazine Subscriptions (maybe before the Internet but not now).
11. Bath accessories and lotions (try having a male student selling that to a female student- they'll have him up on sexual harassment charges in a second)
http://www.healthysd.gov/Documents/HealthyFundraisingIdeas.pdf
Clearly, who ever made up this list have no clue how the real world works or what the school environment is like. There is a reason why cookies, candy, ice cream and other fundraisers work. Because this is what the kids and families want and they make good money.
CCSD will be in big trouble if this goes through. What does CCSD serve every day in each middle schools and high schools? Papa Johns pizza. That unhealthy pizza.
This is just another case of the government bureaucrats have no clue how the real world works. What a bunch of first class bozos and morons. Probably a bunch vegans.
update: Thanks for Ordinary Jill for pointing out my mistake on blaming the Fed's- it's a south dakota state agency responsible for the list.

A Funny With Possibilities?
Ladies and Gentlemen, after listening to NBC New tonight about Airport Security
and people objecting to the new Full Body Scan I decided to come up with a
better solution than showing off all one 'Stuff'. My solution to fix the problem
is below, most of you should agree. It would only take a few hits to stop people
from trying to carry explosives on planes..
Subject: Airport Security
Here's a solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at the
airports:
All we need to do is develop a booth that you can step into that will NOT X-ray
you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have hidden on or in your
body. The explosion will be contained within the sealed booth.
This would be a win-win for everyone. There would be none of this crap about
racial profiling and the device would eliminate long and expensive trials.
This is so simple that it's brilliant.
I can see it now: you're in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled
explosion. Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system,
"Attention standby passengers, we now have a seat available on flight number..."
I could see this working in the near future...

NFL Lockout In 2011?
It is starting to look like there is going to be a lockout of NFL players that may affect the 2011 season. There always have been talk about the owners locking out the players, but the layers union, the NFLPA is telling it's players to start saving money in case of a lockout.
Some NFL players have a hard time saving money. Earlier this year, a NFL player for the Denver Broncos committed suicide, in part of poor money management, including owing 10's of thousands of dollars to Las Vegas casino's. You also see players who have made hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars during their career and be totally broke within a couple of years after they are out of the game.
From ESPN: "The NFL players' union has advised its members to prepare for a lockout it expects to come in March, telling players to save their last three game checks this year in case there is no season in 2011.
In a letter to the players that was seen by The Associated Press, NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith said the union had an "internal deadline" for agreeing to a new collective bargaining agreement.
"That deadline has now passed," he wrote. "It is important that you protect yourself and your family." http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5882717
While unions like scream hyperbole, for some reason, this letter seems like a sincere effort to get the players to understand the seriousness of the situation.
I'm not taking sides. Both sides have valid points and both sides are greedy. But in the end, we just may not have a full 2011 football season.

Pawn Stars Shop Review: It's Not That Good
Today, the family went the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop, home of Pawn stars. The address is 73 South Las Vegas Blvd. To say we were disappointed, is an understatement.
We have been going to the shop about every 6 months or so, for the past several years, even before they became famous. It seems strange, but they grew the shop to make it bigger, but they have fewer items in the shop.
It used to be, you can buy electronics, like a TV. Now you can't. You used to be able to buy CD's and video games. Now you can't. Their antique gun and other weapon collection is way down.
But they opened a huge section dedicated to, you guessed it, to the Pawn Stars. Lots and lots of memorabilia- t-shirts, mugs, post cards, hats, posters, and even water in addition to other souvenir stuff.
they still sell jewelry, had about 5 motorcycles, some stuff that no one will buy, some crystal, pictures, art work, coins and other odds and ends. This really is not your typical pawn shop any more. It is a high end thrift store. Great place to buy jewelry, not much of anything else.
If they didn't have the TV show, their business would be in serious trouble.

Some People Have All The Luck: Snowed In At A Bar For 8 Days
From the UK's DailyMail: While thousands braved the cold to begin their Christmas shopping, seven people in North Yorkshire are praying for better weather after being snowed into a pub for eight days and counting.
Heavy snow showers and strong winds have left the group stuck in the Lion Inn pub in Blakey Ridge, Kirkbymoorside since last Friday, with little chance of an escape.
Drifts of up to 16ft blocked the inn's doors and windows, with the surrounding roads impassable, and to make matters worse, the stranded seven's cars are buried under nine foot of snow...
The group's predicament in the fourth highest pub in England continues as forecasters warned Britons to expect icy conditions for at least another week, with temperatures falling as low as -10C in the South East of England overnight.
Katie Underwood, 18, who has been a waitress at the Lion Inn for four years, said: 'It was really novel at first, and quite exciting.
'The snow is immense. Most of the windows in here are blocked up, but we've got a door open at the back to get some air when we need to.' Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1335602/UK-snow-Seven-trapped-Yorkshire-pub-days-Big-Freeze-set-week.html#ixzz17BTZZzKV
I was stuck at work once in North Dakota because of snow. 27 inches of snow with 60 mph of wind combined to make some snow drifts over 10 feet tall. But alas, instead of a bar, I was stuck at a nursing for the cognitively disabled instead of a bar. Milk instead of Miller. Juice instead a screw driver.
Damn that global warming.

New Liberal Mental Illness: Rip Van Winkle Disease
The La Vegas Sun- the newspaper that people use to wrap their fish in the print edition, just can't bring themselves to blame Democrats.
In today's editorial: "Obama and Congress need to find a way to start digging us out of the hole that President George W. Bush and a Republican-controlled Congress got us into when they started two wars and passed a huge tax cut without corresponding cuts in government spending or increased taxes elsewhere to balance the budget."
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/dec/04/just-empty-gesture/
Or this doozy from the Sun the other day: "During the Bush administration, for example, the nation entered two wars, and the Republican Congress went on a spending spree — on credit. Republicans also pushed tax cuts, as they are doing now, but trickle-down economics doesn’t work — it has only added to the debt." http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/dec/02/cutting-national-debt/
Apparently, the brain dead editorial writers suffer from the Rip Van Winkle disease. They must have been asleep for the last two years since they apparently have forgotten that the democrats have been in charge of the White House and Congress.
I sure hope there is a cure for this dreaded disease. But I fear the only antidote will be is when the GOP takes control in 2012, the the liberals will beginning to remember everything.

100 Year Old Wal-Mart Greeter Knocked Down In Milwaukee
From jsonline: Prosecutors likely won't decide until next week whether to file charges against a 37-year-old woman accused of injuring a 100-year-old woman during a dispute last weekend at a Milwaukee Wal-Mart where the older woman works as a greeter, an official with the Milwaukee County district attorney's office said Friday.
Both women and their attorneys met with prosecutors Friday. The attorneys have viewed a surveillance video of the incident but have completely different interpretations of what occurred.
The incident occurred Sunday as the younger woman was leaving the store at 3355 S. 27th St. after making purchases.
Milwaukee police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz said Monday that the younger woman pushed the greeter, Lois Speelman, to the floor after Speelman tried to verify that the woman had paid for water stored on the bottom rack of her shopping cart.
Speelman said in an interview that she hit her head and underwent a CT scan Sunday night before being released from the hospital. She returned to work Thursday.
The younger woman was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery at her home in Milwaukee on Sunday and was held in jail until Monday evening, according to police and her lawyer, Julius Kim. She has never been arrested before, Kim said.
http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/111296644.html
First, I am surprised that Wal-Mart has a 100 year old people greeter employed. Good for Wal-Mart and Lois Speelman.
As a former employee at Wal-Mart, I also know that being a door greeter is a dangerous job. You have people like this thug who gets pissed when they are asked to prove they paid for an item. You also have shoplifters and the door area is where security usually detains a shoplifting subject. One time I saw fight break out between security and a shoplifter and as they were fighting, they rolled over an elderly people greeter, severely and permanently injuring the people greeter.
So, I am glad that a 100 year old lady wants to work and Wal-Mart gave her an opportunity and I am glad she was not seriously hurt. I just hope she stays safer.

Charges Filed In Parhump Special Education Abuse Case
Formal charges have been filed in Parhump against four educators in the Floyd Elementary School abuse case.
From Parhump Valley Times: "Nye County District Attorney Brian Kunzi filed formal criminal charges against four Floyd Elementary School educators on Thursday.Principal Holly Lepisto, special education teacher Sarah Hopkins, special education aides Phyllis Dushane and Kathryn Cummings each face one count of child abuse or neglect, a Class B felony. The four women were originally arrested on five counts of child abuse and one count each of conspiracy to commit a crime. In a statement released by the district attorney, a criminal complaint against the women alleges that over the course of a year DuShane, Cummings and Hopkins “used physical forms of discipline” that included “grabbing a student’s arm and forcing him to punch himself in the face, repeatedly flicking a student behind the ear, swatting a student and striking or popping a student in the mouth.” Lepisto, meanwhile, allegedly received numerous complaints about the instructors and failed to intervene to protect the students.Kunzi said that his decision to combine the five charges of child abuse for which the women were originally arrested into one charge did not constitute any change in the severity of the case.“I combined them all into one as a charging style. There were multiple victims,” he said. “In my estimation, when you look at the abuse, there wasn’t one particular time, but it was the entire course of conduct.” http://pvtimes.com/news/charges-filed-records-reveal-case-against-educators/
If the charges are true, then the charges are warranted.
But there problems with the case. First, the cops interviewed a 6 year old mentally disabled child. Yeah, that's reliable. According to the detective’s sworn statement, he interviewed a 6-year-old who is in Hopkins’s class. The child told the detective that while other students participate in a disciplinary routine involving cards when they misbehave, another student is “spanked” or “snapped” when they misbehave.
Another troubling aspect: Boruchowitz also interviewed “a director of Special Education” at the school who revealed that he’d referred an occupational therapist to Lepisto when the therapist complained about the treatment of students in Hopkins’ class, according to the statement. Contacted later, Boruchowitz writes that the therapist reported incidents multiple times to the school district that went unheeded.
A director of special of education at the school? My guess that this director is either a department chair or the school's LEA (Local Education Agency) representative. They would not be considered to be a "director of special education" at the school Further, if the person was a director of special education and had supervisory powers, why didn't they get charged for not conducting an investigation?
The other part of the case I have a problem with is this: There were 6 students int he classroom and at least 5 staff members in the room, meaning that it was almost a 1:1 situation. If this is the case, how did the kids get so out of control that they deserved this kind of punishment? I work in a class with seven severely disabled kids with only one aide and if they don't show up to school, like today, I am by myself. Even with the 1 staff for every 3.5 students, my students don't me riled up that I need to hit them. So, either there was horrible classroom management or some one's lying.
Another problem I have: The educators are all suspended, along with a fifth aide, from their jobs at the school district pending an internal investigation. Lepisto and Hopkins are free on $100,000 bail. DuShane was released from jail for medical reasons shortly after her arrest, and Cummings was released on her own recognizance after spending almost a week in the Pahrump jail.
Umm, ok, how do you go from a $100,000 bail in the case of Cummings to being released on her own recognizance? Maybe the $100,000 bail was excessive in the first place? Of course it was.
So, again, I don't know what is true and what is not. The allegations of punishment seem bizarre to me. Having a student punch themselves in the mouth? That is a very strange corporal punishment, if true.
So, it comes down this: it's a she says, she says case and it will be up to a jury to see who is truthful and who is not.

More Evidence Climate Warming Is Fraudlent
From Fox News: Blam! Kapow! Smack! The bell has rung for the latest round of climate talks, but the battle continues among climate scientists too, making only one thing truly clear -- the science of global warming simply isn't settled.
Climate science suffered a black eye over the past 12 months, following revelations that the latest report from the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) contained numerous errors and relied too heavily on questionable sources. At the latest climate conference in Cancun, the group will stress that its research must continue.
But while governments try to push through an accord, the fighting over the science -- and the IPCC's role -- continues unabated. And the body blows seem as violent as ever.
"The corruption within the IPCC revealed by the Climategate scandal, the doctoring of data and the refusal to admit mistakes have so severely tainted the IPCC that it is no longer a credible agency," Don Easterbrook, a professor of geology at Western Washington University, declared in an interview with FoxNews.com. "Thus, it is no longer in a position to claim to speak for climate scientists." http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/12/03/climate-cancun-science-warming/
I have always been convinced that global warming is one big fraud perpetrated by the likes of Al Gore and green companies and college professors who rely on grant money to show global warming/climate change. Seriously, if Al Gore truly believed in climate change, he would not leave so many carbon foot prints. Same with Harry Reid, President Obama and Nancy Pelosi. If Harry Reid truly believed in man made climate change, he wouldn't be running around with three gas guzzling SUV's in his entourage. If Obama truly believed in man made climate change, he wouldn't be flying all over the world and country in his 747 Air Force One.
So, just more evidence from the article that shows that global warming/climate change is a fraud.

Harry Reid Gives Nevada And U.S. The Finger By Appointing Titus
Another reason why Harry Reid should never have been re-elected.
From the Las Vegas Sun: Dina Titus won’t apparently be making a clean exit from Washington just yet; Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid appointed her to serve on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
The eight-member commission monitors and investigates civil rights cases and reports to Congress and the administration. Its most well-known work came during the 2000 presidential election aftermath, when the commission investigated charges of racist voting practices affecting the election and recount.
The president appoints four members of the commission, and House and Senate leaders appoint the other four. Titus is Reid’s only appointment. The seat has been held by Arlen Melendez, Chairman of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony
http://www.lasvegassun.com/blogs/policy-racket/2010/dec/03/harry-reid-names-dina-titus-us-commission-civil-ri/
So, what experience does Dina Titus have in civil rights? Is she a lawyer? Nope? Did she help write civil rights law? Nope. Does she know how the civil rights commission works? No evidence of that.
Having a life in education and politics does not make one a civil rights expert. This appointment is for politics only and nothing else. She is a defeated politician who has been rejected by Nevada voters in 2006 governors race and by her own Congressional district this year.
And she is the best person Harry Reid could have appointed? Hardly.
And to the Hispanics that helped get their hero Harry get elected, Harry has two words for you: F--- You.

I Got To See Sharron From Rehab In Action Today

When we were at the Hard Rock, we got to see security supervisor, Sharron, from the Rehab show in action, and yes, she actually works and get's things done.
It appeared she was the security official in charge of the Hard Rock Security and she was working harder than any security person there.
She also doesn't quite look they way she does on TV. She looks lighter and dresses pretty fancy.
While most of the Rehab: Party at the Hard Rock is staged, Sharron is a real life security supervisor who works year round.
Well, Lookee Here: Dr. Laura Not Quitting Radio
In a move certain to piss off liberals, Dr. Laura is not leaving radio but going to Sirius Radio. From The Radio Equalizer: But that one seeming victory has suddenly been snatched from the win column as Dr Laura has announced she won't be leaving talk radio after all, instead moving from land-based outlets to satellite services. Sirius XM have announced her new program will begin shortly after the old one ends. From CBC:
Schlessinger announced she would leave the program when her contract was up at year-end, saying she needed a forum where she was free to say what she liked."I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart, and what I think is helpful and useful, without somebody getting angry — some special-interest group deciding this is a time to silence a voice of dissent, and attack affiliates and sponsors," she said in August.Sirius XM Radio announced the multiyear deal with Schlessinger for the Dr. Laura advice program. Financial terms were not disclosed.
http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com/
Well, i guess the liberals won't be getting Dr. Laura off the air. While I am sure her audience won't be as large, she will still be dispensing her advise on the air.
I guess the liberals will have to target someone else to get off the air.

This Is One Brave And Strong Woman

From The El Paso Times: The only police officer in a long and deadly stretch of border towns in the Juárez Valley is 28-year-old Erika Gándara.
She works in plainclothes but keeps a semi-automatic rifle, an AR-15, hidden between cushions in her stark office. A bulletproof vest hangs near the door. A portrait of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Mexican version of the Virgin Mary, adorns one wall. These items are all Gándara has for company at the station.
Eight officers constituted the police force of Guadalupe. One was shot dead the week Gándara joined the department as a dispatcher in June 2009. The other seven resigned within a year, driven out by fear, Gándara said. The last one quit in June, and no potential have applied, Gándara said.
"I am here out of necessity," she said.

Do We Need The NHP In Clark County?
Nevada has a huge budget problem. Like over $1 billion deficit problem. So, why is the NHP (Nevada Highway Patrol)in Clark County?
The NHP patrols the area's highways, mainly the I-15, Hwy 93 and 95 and a few other roads. But so does Metro, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City and probably Mesquite. I travel everyday down the 95 from Henderson and just about everyday, I see a Metro or Henderson motorcycle or police car and their officer have someone pulled over for a traffic violation.
What is the main function of the NHP in Clark County? Primarily accident investigation and big rig patrol On very rare occasions, they have a weight station open.
Well, why can't the local police department take over the duties of the NHP? They already investigate accidents, from fender benders to major accidents like fatal accidents. The local cops can be trained to work with the big rigs.
It's not like the NHP is very busy with accidents. With the exception of rush hour and rain, there are not that many accidents in Clark County. See the NHP incident web page: http://www.nvdpspub.gov/nhp/roadhazard.aspx The local police agencies can patrol the highways and Interstate like they do now.
Of course, the State would have to pay the local police departments some extra money to do the extra duties, but it certainly can be less than what the State pay the troopers who work in Clark County.

Somedays You Just get Lucky

Some days you just get lucky. We knew NASCAR and it's stars were in town but I really wasn't paying attention.
In today's LVRJ had a story how the 12 drivers in the Chase were going to take a victory lap around the strip today. I called Cathy we decided to go.
We thought we were going to watch from the Paris because of good parking, but as we were going to Harmon, we were driving past the Hard Rock, we saw all the Coke and Sprint trucks and determined that is where the drivers may drive by.
We got down to the enterance and found out that is where the drivers would end.
So, we went to the fan experience and I found out they were going to have a show afterwards with the drivers and we lucky enough to get free tickets.
So, then the cars came and they were so close that we could almost touch the race cars and Denny Hamlin stopped directly in front of us., 5 feet in front of us with Carl Edwards just in back of him, with his engine smoking pretty bad.
We went to the NASCAR After The Lap Show it was a pretty funny Q&A show. Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson and Clint Bowyer are some pretty funny guys. But when you have to speak to sponsors, do commercials and many other speaking engagements, one of the requirements of a NASCAR driver nowdays is to be a good speaker.
So, it was a lucky day for us and it was a fun day and we got to meet people from all over the country.
Sometimes I Wonder Why I Moved To Las Vegas And Then Comes This Weekend
There are days why I wonder why I moved from Wisconsin To Las Vegas. And then comes a weekend like this.
While Wisconsin is bracing for a snowstorm, we have NASCAR in town this week. Today we went to a fan day at the Hard Rock (see above post).
Then the National Finals Rodeo is in town. We drove past the area where the keep the horses and bulls and the smell of Wisconsin's farms come back to me.
This Sunday is the Las Vegas marathon in which 30,000 runners will be racing through the streets of Las Vegas.
On Monday is the American Country Music Awards.
In addition to all of the other fun things to do in Las Vegas.

Is Cox Cable Racist? Why Is Cox Cable Only Targeting Hispanics?
Cox TV has run three commercials lately in the Las Vegas market and all three involve a Hispanic theme. Why?
The first two involve a cute Hispanic girl, about 6 years old who relays information to her grandmother in. The girl translates in Spanish, information about cable TV to the grandmother. The new commercial involves two boys in a tree who are using a vegetable can string telephone to talk to their grandfather who is Hispanic. Cute advertisement, again, but again, geared to Hispanics.
Apparently, in Las Vegas, Cox is only concerned about Hispanic customers and don't give a rip about African Americans, Asians and whites. Seems like Cox is a racist company.
Almost wants me to check out Direct TV and other Internet providers.

John Ensign: Scum Is Not Guilty
I am not a fan of John Ensign. I have called for his resignation from the Senate. He is about at the level of pond scum or the donkey crap that is on the baseball field in Blue Diamond.
John Ensign is saying that he has been cleared by the DOJ for any wrong doing. From the Sun: Lawyers for Sen. John Ensign say the Department of Justice has halted its investigation of the Nevada senator, who was accused of improperly paying off employees to cover up an extramarital affair.
"The Department of Justice has informed us that Senator Ensign is no longer a target of its investigation and that it has no plans to bring any charges against him on this matter," lawyers said in statement.
This is the second recent reprieve for Ensign, with the Federal Election Commission deciding last month not to pursue a campaign finance complaint against the senator.

I do agree with this. What Ensign did was disgusting but it wasn't illegal and the investigation should have been dropped.
But Ensign should resign for being a jackass and an embarrassment to Nevada (like Harry Reid isn't an embarrassment?). But anyways, Ensign is toast in 2012 in the GOP primary and will be gone soon.

Speaking Of The DMV...
There is a little known secret in Las Vegas and I am about to tell you what it is. Today, we went to the Henderson DMV and the place was packed. Most of the people, it seemed, were there to get their driver's license renewed or something to do with their driver's license. People were waiting over an hour or two to get through the lines.
However, there is a DMV office on Donavan Way, which is by Craig and the I-15. I went there last week to get my license renewed and I was in and out in 10 minutes or so. The employees were actually bored with so little to do.
So, if you don't like waiting in the DMV lines to deal with you drivers license renewal or other problems with your license, go to the North Las Vegas DMV and the drive will be worth it.
However, please note, the Donavan Way office is not a full service center. You cannot get a license plate there, but you can renew your license plate there at the kiosk.

New Crime In Las Vegas: Driving With Temporary License Plate
In Nevada, and probably most states, when you buy a car from a dealer, you get a paper temporary license plate that you put on the rear bumper. In Nevada, it is good for 30 days.
Well, today I got pulled over by a Las Vegas Metro police officer by McCarren Airport for driving with the paper temp. license plate. That's all. The officer never mentioned that I was speeding, rolled through a stop sign. The temp. plate was not expired. Nothing. (and I was wearing my seat belt and obeyed all the traffic laws when I was driving).
He told me the only reason was because I had a temp. plate and he was just checking if the car was stolen.
Now, I was on my way to the DMV to get the real plate and the stop only lasted about 5 minutes, but still, people were looking at me like I did something wrong.
So, beware, in Las Vegas, you can be pulled over for doing nothing wrong except to have a legal temporary paper license plate you get from the auto dealership that is displayed properly.
More and more rights are, poof, gone.
