The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel(my former hometown newspaper) shows their disrespect to the Marine Corps and to a former Marine who committed suicide as a result of PTSD (Post traumatic Stress Syndrome)
The headline reads: "Ex-Marine's death attributed to stress disorder"
As several commentators on the story wrote, once a Marine, always a Marine. "Semper Fi, may you rest in peace. For the record, JS staff, he is only an EX-Marine, if he was dishonorably discharged or removed from the Corps for similar reasons. As he was honorably discharged, it should read "Former Marine". We might be a small group, comparatively, however the slogan "Once a Marine, always a Marine", still means something." http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/98961749.html
I have a great respect for the Marines. I was in the Air Force and getting through training was tough. But when I see what kind of basic training the Marines have to go through, I know I wouldn't be able to survive. Very few people are able to become a Marine because of the tough standards and it is a very tough emotional and physical job.
So, when a uninformed newspaper headliner makes a cut on the Marine Corps, it is not surprising. But they should have the guts to admit their mistake and change the headline. The former Marine deserves better. The Marine Corps deserves better.
