A Chinese solar energy wants to buy 9000 acres of Clark County owned land to build a solar energy plant down by the Laughlin area.
From the Las Vegas Sun: The Clark County Commission directed staff today to consider a Chinese energy company's offer to purchase another 3,600 acres of county land for a massive solar energy plant and solar-cell factory near Laughlin.
ENN Mojave Energy Corp. now wants all 9,000 acres of available county land about 12 miles south of Laughlin, not 5,400 acres as first reported in June.
Former U.S. Sen. Richard Bryan, representing ENN, said an agreement with the county could be complete as soon as November. At that point, negotiations for a purchase-power agreement — between a power seller and potential buyer — would begin.
As soon as the agreement is struck, ENN will begin construction. If an agreement isn't reached, Bryan said, the land would revert back to Clark County.
When ENN's plans were announced, the company said the development would create 2,000 long-term manufacturing jobs paying on average $72,000 a year. The total construction cost for the solar-cell plant, industrial park and solar-energy farm was projected to be in the range of $4 billion to $6 billion.

First, this is a done deal. This deal was brought to Nevada by Crybaby Harry Reid and all the Clark County board members are Democrats, so this is a done deal with no real tough questions asked.
But I will ask some:
1. Why is a Chinese company willing to invest $6 billion when no U.S. companies can or will not?
2. Is there any U.S., state or local money being borrowed to or given to the Chinese company?
3. The company does not have any potential buyers for their power. Who will buy it and why? This power will more expensive than other energy, such as coal powered electrical plants. Further, there is no current need for more energy, especially in this economy.
4. $72,000 average for their manufacture workers. What is the industry average? I'm pretty sure it is not $72,000.
5. Who is going to pay for the infrastructure for the new plant? The roads, water, extra police, firefighters and everything else that is needed to put up a manufacturing plant of that size?
6. The company is planning on building a mini eco city. Is this going to be a company town in which the company owns all the houses, roads, parks and everything else? How are they going to finance this and what happens if they build all these houses and the rest of the city and the company goes bankrupt or leaves Nevada?
7. How many tax breaks is the County and state give, in terms of property tax. Will the company pay more in taxes than the services they receive from the government services?
8. With an influx of 2000 employees, who is going to pay for the extra schools needed in the Laughlin area and who will staff them? Right now, there is only a couple of schools in Laughlin and they are hard to staff because many of the teachers don't live in Laughlin now and now they may need hundreds more.
These are only some of the question the local politicians need to ask, but since they in the back pocket of Harry Reid, they won't and they will bow down to Reid and the Chinese and say "yes master" to them.
This project might on the up and up but I highly doubt it. First, Harry Reid is involved, second, no one is asking tough questions and third, I am very skeptical of green energy projects and when you have a huge mega project like this, you really have to wonder- why this project, and why now?
