At about 9 a.m. Saturday, reports from across the country began pouring in that customers’ EBT cards were not working in stores.
At 2 p.m., an EBT customer service representative told CBS Boston that the system was currently down for a computer
Xerox spokeswoman Jennifer Wasmer released further details later in the afternoon in an emailed statement. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2013/10/12/computer-upgrade-blamed-for-nationwide-ebt-system-shutdown-on-saturday/
I have thoughts.
First, I realize that some people, not all that many, need food stamps to survive, and it sucks that they could not go shopping. But if they could not survive 1 day without food stamps, then I feel little sympathy for them. What happens if there is an true emergency, what will happen then, if they cannot go shopping.
Second, I feel sorry for the grocery stores. I am sure so many people bought groceries and when the customer couldn't pay, guess who has to put the food items away? The store employees and that sucks. Plus, some cold food probably was lost due to becoming warm.
Finally, a just a small part of me had to smile because probably 95% of those affected are Obama supporters and really don't mind that they are getting their food from the taxpayer. When they are buying their steak, candy, ice cream cones, beef jerky, shrimp, chips and pretzels, soda and other luxury items, do they really care about the taxpayers?
Umm, hell no.
