More Wasteful Federal Governement Spending

From myfoxdc: Getting kids to eat three healthy meals a day can be a challenge, especially if money is tight. But D.C. Public Schools have found a way to take some of that burden off parents. They are now serving dinner at school.
On the menu are things like salmon salad, a whole grain roll, orange juice, one percent milk and a corn and pepper relish...

D.C. joins 13 states which serve three meals a day at school – and to the tune of $5.7 million. Officials here have embraced the program because they realize healthy, well-fed kids learn better.
“We're reaching 10,000 kids a day at 99 of our 120 schools," said Anthony Tata, Chief Operating Officer of D.C. Public Schools.
That's about 25 percent of the student population. And another big benefit of the after school dinners are that more kids are enrolling in after school programs where they can get some academic help as well.
So the dinners are really serving three purposes - fighting hunger, obesity and offering help with classwork too.
And the best news of all is this is a federally-funded program.
“We're reimbursed on a per meal basis," Tata said. "We can already see the good it's doing for our kids."
http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/news/dc/dc-students-receive-dinner-at-school-101910
I'm sorry, but does the D.C. school district hold the family of the children accountable for anything? Breakfast, lunch and dinner? Yes, times are tough, though D.C. it is not as tough as living in Las Vegas. Besides food stamps and other food programs, families can go to food banks or other charities to get food. Washington D.C. isn't Haiti.
And if the kids are getting dinner at school, that means they are spending more than 8 hours a day at school, meaning the school is also the baby sitter.
But the dumbest comment in the article is the guy who said it's good it's federally funded. That means, those of us in Nevada are paying for deadbeats in Washington D.C. who won't feed their kids one meal in a day.
Thanks Harry, Dina and Shelly.

R.I.P Tom Bosely

Tom Bosely, the father in Milwaukee based Happy Days passed away today. From the Cincinnati Enquire: Happy Days tv dad Tom Bosley has died at age 83.
Tom Bosley has passed away at the age of 83 in his Palm Springs California home from complications of a staph infection.
Tom Bosley first started his acting career in 1963 when he co starred with screen beauty Natalie Wood in the classic film "Love With A Proper Stranger." Tom Bosely is best known as his long running role as Howard Cunningham on the comedy show 'Happy Days."
Tom began his role as the famous Mr. C the father of Richie and Joanie Cunningham, he was always the supportive, understanding ,kind go to for advice role model on the show. He was liked and respected by his former cast members and will be greatly missed by many.
He also played on "Murder She Wrote", among other things. He is the second sit com star to pass away in the past few days, with Barbara Billingsley passing away the other day.
Bosely played one of the most believable father figures, in my humble opinion and he will be missed.

Harry Reid Lies. Again. And The Sun Will Rise From The East So What Else Is New?

There is an independent advertisement from Hispanics urging Hispanics not to vote this election. The reason, the Hispanic group says is that both the GOP and Democrats have failed them. The group is called "Latinos For Reform"

But Harry Reid says this: "Listen to her latest-running ads on Hispanic television telling people not to vote. She's trying to keep people from voting," Reid told about 150 students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas."

Hey moron, Sen. Reid, Sharron Angle did not pay for the commercial nor did she make the commercial.

Sen. Reid, you sound so pathetic when you are desperate. You sound like a cry baby. And Sen. Reid, have you ever heard of free speech? Yeah, didn't think so.
The advertisement is here:

I might add, the highly racist television station, Univision, is refusing to run the commercial. I guess when you a racist television station supporting a racist politician, this is what you get.

We knew lightening was close but they never called the game. We were damn lucky no one was hurt. And that was the closest I have been to lightening when I was outside.

Sharron Angle Has Been Listening To Me

Since the beginning of the election campaign and before, I talked about Harry Reid and living at the Ritz Carlton. Well Sharron Angle finally listen, though I am sure she will say her highly paid staff members thought of the idea first. Well, here comes a nice advertisement from Angle:

Pawn Star Review: October 18, 2010

Well, the heat is gone from Las Vegas, with highs in the upper 70's and lows in the low 50's. This is one of the reasons why God invented Las Vegas.
In the first episode, the first guy brought in a Kentucky Long Rifle from the Civil War. Time for the expert. Sean Rich was the expert and he said that the rifle was real and was worth up to $2800. Rick offered $1200, the guy offered $1600 and then $1400 and that was the price.
The next person in World War II dishes. The plates were supposedly from Hitler's summer home. Because of the NAZI memorabilia, Rick decided to pass on the dishes.
The next guy brought 1899 Irish walking stick. The stick belong to a guy named Bittenger. The guy wanted $400 and Rick offered $200. The Old Man offered $300, but Rick overruled him and the final price was $250.
The next lady brought in a G.I. Jane nurse doll. The lady wanted $2500 and time for the expert. They brought in Jonathon of the Toy Shack. He thought the doll was worth up to $1500. The lady went down to $1000 and Rick offered $600 and then $700 and then $800 and that was the sale price.
The guys went to a house to see an old gold cart from the 1960's. It looked like crap. The guy wanted $300 and Rick offered $100 and then $150. They then sent it to Rick Dale for restoration.
In the second episode, a lady brought in an electric 1956 Gibson guitar. Time for an expert, Jesse. The lady wanted $20,000 but Jesse thought it was worth $3500. Rick offered $2000 and it was no sale. But then Rick offered $2200 and that was the sale price.
The next guy wanted to sell a Delorean car from 1981. The guy drove it through a a typical middle class neighborhood. The guy wanted $30,000. Corey offered $12,000and then $15,000. No deal.
Chum, Corey and Rick were given a chance to be on "Who Wants To be a Millionaire", but it was a dream sequence. Stupid.
The next guy brought in a letter to the the guy's grandfather from Franklin Roosevelt. The letter was about Social Security. Time for the expert, Drew. Drew said it was real and worth about $7000. Ricked offered $2500 and then $2750 and that was the sale price.

Stupid Union News: Chapter 1242

From The Washington Times: "An international union of airline flight attendants that fought for 16 years to get a federal law extended to its members giving employees time off for the birth and care of the newborn child has been accused of retaliating against one of its senior employees for taking maternity leave.
Stephani Lewis, a senior attorney for the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA), has filed a federal lawsuit claiming she was denied a promotional pay raise after she told her bosses she was pregnant and would be taking maternity leave under the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act.
Mrs. Lewis, a staff attorney for the union since 1996, said she began experiencing "a hostile work environment" after telling her bosses in August 2009 that she was pregnant with her fourth child and would be taking maternity leave in the new year. The act, among other things, says employers must grant an eligible employee up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12-month period for the birth and care of the newborn child."

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/oct/18/retaliation-union-attorney-maternity-case/
Union hypocrisy. Who would have thought of that?

What? Another Liberal Idea Doesn't Work?

From The Washington Times: "Just three years after a Democrat-led Congress imposed the federal minimum wage on two U.S. territories in the Pacific, lawmakers last month halted the program in its tracks, acknowledging the move had sapped thousands of jobs from American Samoa and the commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
The two-year delay in the case of American Samoa and one-year reprieve for the Northern Mariana Islands was imposed even as both parties have sparred over the effects of the minimum wage in the U.S. during the troubled economy.
"We said this increase would be harmful in 2007, and the Democrats did it anyway," said Rep. Patrick T. McHenry, North Carolina Republican. "It proves our point that the federal government setting wage rates is destructive to job creation, whether it's in American Samoa or western North Carolina."

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/oct/18/territories-snared-in-wage-debate/
Earlier this year, Nevada just raised the minimum wage in July to $8.25 without benefits and $7.25 for those who get health insurance. I believe this is in the State Constitution, as the voters voted on this in the good times.
Minimum wage kills jobs and it really doesn't help many people. When the minimum wage is raised, the employer, if they want to continue to make the same amount of money, have to either lay off some people or reduce hours. The hardest hit are people entering the workforce, either as a kid or an adult. The minimum wage freezes them out of the job market because there are fewer jobs out there.
Nevada needs to reduce the minimum wage in an effort to create more jobs and let kids and adults into the job market.
And no, companies are not going to pay people 50 cents an hour. The companies will pay what the market will bear.

Rassmussen: Angle 50% Reid 47%

From Rasmussen: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and his Republican challenger Sharron Angle remain locked in a tight race for the U.S. Senate in Nevada in the first survey following last Thursday night’s debate.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds Angle with 50% to Reid’s 47%. Two percent (2%) prefer another candidate in the race, and one percent (1%) are undecided. (To see question wording,
The race remains a Toss-Up in the Rasmussen Reports
Election 2010 Senate Balance of Power rankings.
A week ago, Angle held an insignificant 49% to 48% lead in a contest that has been marked for months by its closeness. In seven of eight surveys prior to this one since July, Reid and Angle have been three points apart or less. Both have hit the 50% mark one time.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2010/election_2010_senate_elections/nevada/election_2010_nevada_senate
This poll is based on likely voters and Rasmussen has been very accurate. Angle, despite the media basing in Las Vegas and in the Reno area is still staying strong. If it is true that Angle has 50%, the election is hers.

More Green Job Fraud

From my hometown newspaper, the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune: "For the first time in almost a year, Energy Composites President Jamie Mancl will address members of the Common Council, updating them about the wind-turbine blade project he said would make the city the epicenter of "green" manufacturing.
The meeting is slated to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 444 W. Grand Ave., and will be broadcast live on River Cities Community Access television.
In November, the council approved a $5.3 million incentive package for the company, agreeing to pay $1.5 million for infrastructure costs and $6,000 for each full-time job the company creates on or before Dec. 31, 2012, up to $3.8 million.
Since then, an apparent lack of progress has many in the community -- including some Common Council members -- concerned about the project's viability.
Mancl continues to search for investors to purchase $45 million in tax-free recovery zone facility
bonds, the authority of which the state Department of Commerce granted earlier this year. Those bonds are set to expire Dec. 31."
http://www.wisconsinrapidstribune.com/article/20101018/WRT0101/10180535/City-to-get-update-on-wind-turbine-plant-project
When this project was first proposed about a year ago, I had my doubts. First, there was no market in the immediate area for wind turbine blades and second, it sounded too good to be true.
But the mayor and city council thought happy thoughts and went in and gave the company millions of dollars in grants, incentives and more. The plant was supposed to be built by now, employing a couple hundred people. Well, the plant hasn't been built and any money the City of Wisconsin Rapids is down the drain.
And this brings us to Nevada. Harry Reid has been promising green jobs. First, there is a green company in Boulder City that is millions of dollars behind in rent to the City of Boulder City and because of this, the city is facing a budget shortfall and possibly lay off employees. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/aug/25/late-lease-payment-could-force-boulder-city-make-c/
Earlier this year, Harry Reid came out and said a green company was looking for place to put down roots, build a plant and employ hundreds of people. The company needed over 1000 acres. To this date, nothing has been done. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/mar/11/companies-announce-plans-wind-turbine-manufacturin/
And Harry has promised more energy jobs for Nevada but we have not seen many, if any jobs, except for high level executives for these companies. This is happening throughout the country. It would be nice if Harry actually came through with green jobs, but I think Harry is either being snookered by companies who get benefits such as tax breaks, grants and free or discounted land or Harry is playing politics with green jobs in his effort to get re-elected. It's a shame that I don't know which one it is.

Harry reid: Obama Like The Chilean Coal Miners

Poor Harry Reid. So desperate to suck to Obama in case Reid loses his bid for re-election, he hopes Obama will have a job for him come January, comes this horrendous quote from Reid over the weekend (From Real clear Politics): "It was like the Chilean miners, but he, being the man he is, rolled up his sleeves and said 'I am going to get us out of this hole,'" Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) said in Las Vegas on Sunday.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2010/10/18/harry_reid_obama_like_the_chilean_miners.html
No Harry, no matter what Obama does, it's not like what the Chilean coal miners have to do. While the coal miners could not see daylight for weeks, Obama was playing golf. When the coal miners had to go to the bathroom in a small corner of the mine and have to smell all the poop and pee, Obama was partying in the White House smelling steaks, shrimp and lobster. While the coal miners were debating whether they would live or die, Obama was traveling in his luxurious 747 called Air Force 1 going all about the country. While the coal miners were sweating in 90 degree heat day in and day out, Obama was in his air conditioned limousine. When the coal miners were finally found but found out they had to stay down there for at least another couple of months, all Obama was worried about is if he was going win or lose in the elections.
No, Harry Reid, you owe an apology to the Chilean coal miners. You cannot imagine what they went through and to say what Obama has done compares in any way shape or form what the miners went through is outrageous and just plain stupid.
Harry Reid, apologize now!!

Rassmussen: GOP To Pick Up 55 House Seats

From Politico: Nationally-recognized pollster Scott Rasmussen last night predicted that Republicans would gain 55 seats in races for the U.S. House of Representatives November 2—much more than the 39 needed for a Republican majority in the House for the first time since 2006.But the man whose Rasmussen Reports polling is watched carefully by politicians and frequently quoted by the punditocracy said that whether Republicans gain the ten seats they need to take control of the Senate is in question.“Republicans should have 48 seats [after the elections next month], Democrats 47, and five seats could slide either way,” said Rasmussen in his banquet address at the Western Conservative Political Action Conference. He was referring to seats in five states in which the Senate race this year he considers too close to call: California, Illinois, Washington, West Virginia, and Nevada (or “that mudwrestling contest,” as Rasmussen described the race between Republican Sharron Angle and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid).
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=39460
Rasmussen is no slouch and he is a very good pollster. Seems like Nancy will be in the minority. Again.

Who Is The "Patrriot Majority"?

Those of here in Nevada have been bombarded by political advertisements from the Patriot Majority The vast majority of the commercials are anti Sharron Angle and paint her as extreme.
They also have been running an ad for Scott Ashijan, the Harry Reid plant who became a Tea Party candidate for Senate, even though the Tea Party here in Nevada disowns him.
So, who is the Patriot Majority? It's a far left wing PAC and the head of Patriot Majority is none other than Harry Reid's former communications director, Craig Varoga. I am totally shocked, just shocked that Harry Reid and a buddy is behind this group. And considering how many hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars spent they on advertising, I wonder where they are getting all their money? The PAC has only been in existence for 1 year, so where they getting their huge amount of money? Maybe from Harry's campaign war chest?

Nuclear Waste To Nevada? Where's Harry?

From The Post and Courier: "A shipment of 9,400 drums of depleted uranium oxide could be headed to Nevada.
The U.S. Department of Energy is considering a plan to send the radioactive waste from the Savannah River cleanup site in South Carolina to the Nevada National Security Site, formerly known as the Nevada Test Site, state officials said.
“We didn’t request for the waste to come here. That’s DOE’s decision about where to send it,” said Vinson Guthreau, spokesman for the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection...

“We are aware the DOE is considering sending the two trainloads to the Nevada Test Site,” he told the Tribune. “We are pleased (Nevada) is able to locate a permanent disposal for this material. They want to get this stuff safely disposed of in a permanent location.”
Before the next shipments are made, DOE would have to prepare a “waste profile” detailing how much material is involved and other plans, Guthreau said.
“The waste profile has to happen before we accept any waste. DOE hasn’t submitted it to us yet,” he said.
The Nevada site has long accepted low-level waste from around the country."

http://www.postandcourier.com/news/2010/oct/16/nuclear-waste-shipment-could-be-headed-nevada/
So, Nevada has been accepting nuclear waste for some time. I'd be willing to bet that most Nevadans didn't know that.
So, apparently, they have shipping radioactive material from around the country without any problems. Kind of kills the argument of anti-Yucca Mountain people who worry about transportation.
And Harry Reid is the one who killed Yucca and killed thousands of jobs because of the dangerous radioactive material and yet we have been accepting the material for some time.
Harry, please tell us the truth. Closing Yucca was an election year ploy and not about safety. You killed thousands of jobs because of politics.

Gay Parents= More Gay Children?

From AOL News: :But also in his testimony was an inkling of the robust research Schumm has just completed. His study on sexual orientation, out next month, says that gay and lesbian parents are far more likely to have children who become gay. "I'm trying to prove that it's not 100 percent genetic," Schumm tells AOL News. His study is a meta-analysis of existing work. First, Schumm extrapolated data from 10 books on gay parenting; Cameron, for what it's worth, had only looked at three, and offered no statistical analysis in his paper. Schumm skewed his data so that only self-identified gay and lesbian children would be labeled as such. This is important because sometimes Schumm would come across a passage of children of gay parents who said they were "adamant about not declaring their sexual orientation at all." These people would be labeled straight, even though the passage's implication was that they were gay. Schumm concluded that children of lesbian parents identified themselves as gay 31 percent of the time; children of gay men had gay children 19 percent of the time, and children of a lesbian mother and gay father had at least one gay child 25 percent of the time."
http://www.aolnews.com/science/article/study-gay-parents-more-likely-to-have-gay-kids/19668089?icid=main%7Chp-desktop%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk1%7C178321
For me, it makes sense that if a child has gay parents, it is more likely that the child may be gay.
For one, if the parents are lesbian and they give birth, if you believe that genetics have something to do with being gay, you will have more gay kids. Same with a man who has gay genes- if they father a child, then there is a higher chance that their child may become gay.
Second, if you believe that kids imitate their parents, then kids may imitate their parents sexual preference behavior. Kids imitate their parents all the time, from their values, to what they want to do with their lives, to how they behave. These behaviors are imitated, not genetic. The author mentions that many lesbians have a severe hatred of men.: "In Schumm's study, he quotes from the extant literature the stories of young women, describing how being gay was never frowned upon in their household, and so that "option" was available to them. That said, Schumm also finds evidence of gay mothers pushing their daughters, upset over a relationship with a man, to "try out women."
But couldn't gay men also tell their sons this? Yes, but Schumm tells AOL News that most gay men have at some point been with a woman, so they understand why their sons might date them. Whereas the literature shows some lesbians "have a hatred of men that's intense," Schumm says.
I am sure there will be many in the gay community who will condemn this paper and the author. But if they do, they need to provide evidence, not just anecdotal evidence, to prove their case. I don't find this article to be anti or pro gay, just informative.

Airplane Crash Near Moapa

The Clark County Alarm office is reporting a plane down near I-15 by the 81 mile marker. NHP, on their web site doesn't report it. http://fire.co.clark.nv.us/AlarmOffice/Alarm%20Office.aspx
If there is any more information, I'll report it.
The LVRJ says it's around Glendale: http://www.lvrj.com/news/plane-down-near-glendale-105141899.html

The Las Veagas Sun reports it's a Twin Cessna. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/oct/17/small-plane-reported-down-eastern-clark-county/

It's possible that the plane was headed to the Overton airport at the time of the crash.

Because of the size of the plane, this has the potential of being very bad. The closest fire department and ambulance is miles away. There were thunderstroms in the Las Vegas area but most of the rain south of the crash site. The crash site is 50 miles north and east of Vegas.

Update: The Alarm Office took the call off the board, meaning the fire department is no longer needed. Pretty sure this is a good sign.

update 2: False Alarm. from the Sun: Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said a citizen reported to police that a plane went down, but the FAA had no information about a crash.

Okkk

This Pretty Much Sums Up The Packer's and Woodson's Season

3-3. Nope it should not be, but it is.
And Woodson, what the hell are you looking at?

This Is Rare: A Big Thunderstorm

In Las Vegas,we get about 300 days of sunshine. In Henderson, we are getting a nice big thunderstorm, with the winds whipping, rain falling and lightening and thunder out.

Pretty cool!

This This Is Just Scary

From The Washington Times: Drug smuggling gangs in Mexico have sent well-armed assassins, or "sicarios," into Arizona to locate and kill bandits who are ambushing and stealing loads of cocaine, marijuana and heroin headed to buyers in the United States, the Department of Homeland Security has warned Arizona law enforcement authorities. In a memo sent in May and widely circulated since, the department said: "We just received information from a proven credible confidential source who reported that a meeting was held in Puerto Penasco in which every smuggling organization who utilizes the Vekol Valley was told to attend. This included rival groups within the Guzman cartel."...
The Homeland Security memo said a group of "15, very well equipped and armed sicarios complete with bullet proof vests" had been sent into the valley. It said the assassins would be disguised as "groups of 'simulated backpackers' carrying empty boxes covered with burlap into the Vekol Valley to draw out the bandits." Once identified, the memo said, "the sicarios will take out the bandits."The federal government has posted signs along Interstate 8 in the Vekol Valley warning travelers the area is unsafe because of drug and alien smugglers, and the local sheriff says Mexican drug cartels now control some parts of the state. The signs were posted by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) along a 60-mile stretch of Interstate 8 between Casa Grande and Gila Bend, a major east-west corridor linking Tucson and Phoenix with San Diego. They warn travelers they are entering an "active drug and human smuggling area" and may encounter "armed criminals and smuggling vehicles traveling at high rates of speed."
The sheriff ( Paul Babeau of Pinal County)said he had asked the Obama administration for 3,000 National Guard soldiers to patrol the border, but instead got 15 signs. He also has confirmed that he got the Homeland Security memo warning of the assassins. (Emphasis mine)
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/oct/15/mexican-assassins-headed-arizona/
I would think that Eric Holder and the Department of Justice have better things to do than sue Arizona about their anti-illegal immigration law.
And the Fed's answer? Let's put signs up and hope everything is ok. This is not Mexico, it's the United States and yet the Fed, led by President Obama don't really give a damn about what is happening on the border. And some GOP are in this category, like John McCain.
Signs, indeed, that's how you solve the illegal immigrant/drug cartel problems. Put up signs. Pathetic.

See Harry Reid's Home: Washington D.C.'s Ritz-Carlton

Harry Reid lives in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington D.C. While Harry probably gets a discounted rate, the cost per night at the Ritz starts at $649 and can go up to $819 or more a night in addition to taxes and fees. Assuming Harry pays $3000 a week ($428 a night), and that is probably very low, Harry pays more for his hotel room than he brings home from his Congressional paycheck. When Sharron angle asks how he made his money, she has a legitimate argument. How does he afford these riches on a Senator's salary?

A review of the Hotel:
Doormen greet you effusively when you arrive, and poised young women in the bar swan around, gracefully serving you your cocktail. The Ritz staff is always looking after you.
Some guest rooms overlook the hotel's peaceful landscaped courtyard; rooms on the outside perimeter view the West End's cityscape. Deluxe rooms are spacious (standard guest rooms average 450 square feet) and richly furnished with decorative inlaid wooden furniture, a comfy armchair and ottoman, and pretty artwork. Large marble bathrooms offer ample counter space, separate bathtub and shower stall, and the toilet in its own room behind a louvered door. The clock radio doubles as a CD player, and the phone features a button for summoning the "technology butler" (a complimentary, 24/7 service for guests with computer questions). For a $15 fee, guests may use the two-level, 100,000-square-foot Sports Club/LA, the best hotel health club in the city. The hotel's Westend Bistro by Eric Ripert is one of the hottest restaurants in town. Read more:

So, Harry Reid doesn't live like most Nevadans. He is out of touch with most Nevadans with they he lives. Most Nevadans do not get a 3 SUV escort that go through red lights while traveling around the Valley. I'm glad he is helping the economy of Washington D.C. living at the Ritz-Carlton, but please, don't say that he understands what most Nevadans are going through. He has no clue.

10,9,8,7,6,, Badgers Win!!!

The Wisconsin Badger, my alma mater, defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes. Party time On State Street. The fans are storming the field. Hope they stay safe.
On Wisconsin: http://www.badgerband.com/music/audio/on_wis_marching.mp3

Touchdown!!

Badgers 28-18 now. Badgers opened up the offense and took the ball about 70 yards for a running touchdown, by I think White.
6 minutes left in the game.

R.I.P. Barbara Billingsley

Barbara Billingsley of "Leave It To Beaver" and "Airplane" has died today. From The El Paso Sun Times: Even decades after the show ended, Barbara Billingsley expressed surprise at the lasting affection people had for "Leave it to Beaver" and her role as the warm, supportive mother of a pair of precocious boys.
The actress, who gained supermom status for her gentle portrayal of June Cleaver in the 1950s television series, died Saturday after a long illness. She was 94.
"We knew we were making a good show, because it was so well written," Billingsley said in 1994. "But we had no idea what was ahead. People still talk about it and write letters, telling how much they watch it today with their children and grandchildren."
Billingsley, who had suffered from a rheumatoid disease, died at her home in Santa Monica, said family spokeswoman Judy Twersky.

My favorite Barbara Billingsley moment:

4th Quarter Jump Around: Badgers 21 Buckeyes 10

It's getting interesting now. Beginning of the 4th quarter and it's 21-10, with the Buckeyes threatening at the Badger 13 yard line.
Bielma has gone conservative- shock.
It'll be interesting.

Half-Time Badgers 21 Buckeyes 3 And The Ref's Are Horrid

It's 21-3 at halftime, badgers just dominating. The Badgers, for some reason, decided to run out the clock at mid field, with a minute left and two time outs. Hope it won't come back and haunt them.
The ref's are acting like they have been bought and paid for by Ohio State. They missed an obvious offensive interference penalty on Ohio State. Then the Badgers got hit with a late hit penalty on an interception when the tackler was blocked to the ground and the runner barely touched him. Horrible call. However, the Buckeyes missed the field goal attempt and so it didn't make a difference.
Almost time for the 2nd half.

Badgers 21 Buckeyes 0

John Clay just scored on a 1 yard run, making the score 21-0. The Badgers started on their own 8 yard line and mostly ran the ball.
Wish I bet on this game.

5 Minutes Into The Game U.W. Badgers 14- Ohio State 0

Another rushing touchdown by Clay and the Badgers lead 14-0 after 5 minutes into the game. The offense for the Badgers are just mowing down the Buckeyes defense.
Yeah, I am excited about the game.

What A Way To Start Of The Badger Game

David Gilreath of the Wisconsin Badgers just returned the opening kickoff for 97 yards. Hope the momentum holds.

How Desperate Are Liberals This Election?

The liberals in the country are desperate as they see a major repudiation of their policies by the public in the upcoming election.
In Madison, WI., the Capitol Times, an"newspaper" rag in the same liberal fashion as the Las Vegas Sun runs an article written by John Nichols about how a House of Representative in Ohio plays a NAZI soldier in some battle re-enactments: From the Cap Times: The Republican nominee for Congress in Ohio’s 9th District, Rich Iott, has — at least up to this point in the campaign — been one of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s favorite prospects for the 2010 election cycle. The NRCC has highlighted Iott’s challenge to Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio, as Republican strategists in D.C. have steered money and advice to a candidate identified as one of the party’s “young guns.”
Iott’s not very young, but he does know a thing or two about guns.
Until recently, he was a member of a group that re-enacts World War II battles as a German Waffen SS unit.
Iott dressed up in a Nazi uniform, carried a Nazi sidearm and, he tells the Atlantic, adopted a Nazi name — “Reinhard Pferdmann” — in order to really get into the part.
Iott explains: “Part of the re-enactor’s (experience) is the living-history part, of really trying to get into the persona of the time period. In many, not just in our unit, but in many units, what individuals do is create this person largely based on a Germanized version of their name, and a history kind of based around your own real experiences. ‘Reinhard’ of course is ‘Richard’ in German. And ‘Pferdmann,’ ‘pferd’ is a horse. So it’s literally ‘horse man.’ “

http://host.madison.com/ct/news/opinion/column/john_nichols/article_b287671d-1541-56a2-b75e-e6640ce5c91f.html
Oh, the horrors! A person who is a history buff plays a NAZI and it is news. I suppose the guy who played Rolf in "The Sound of Music" should never be allowed to run for a government because he played a NAZI in the movie.
John Nichols is a senile old reporter who really has no clue about the world. He is an even worse columnist that Jon Ralston and that is saying something. But like Ralston and other liberal columnists and reporters, they are getting paranoid about the election and will come up with anything to smear conservatives. Why else would Nichols write about a politician in Ohio who likes to dress up and play war.
But Nichols has no problems with racists, like Robert Byrd. He wrote a glowing article about Byrd on July 6, 2010. http://host.madison.com/ct/news/opinion/column/john_nichols/article_dd09f499-64ba-530e-b1b9-b018b6f27a12.html
Yep, senile and a fraud clearly defnes John Nichols.
The Capitol Times is desperate. The Las Vegas Sun is desperate. Liberal columnists like John Smith and Jane Ann Morrison are desperate and they will make a non-story into breaking news.
Fortunately, most people, except most liberals, see through the crap.

Election Begins In Nevada

The 2010 elections begin today as today marks the beginning of early voting.
From the Las Vegas Sun: Early voting started today in Nevada, and residents showed up in droves to cast their ballots.
A steady line of voters snaked through the bottom floor of Henderson Galleria, one of 21 sites in Southern Nevada where Clark County elections officials set up voting booths. Cars honked as they passed polling places in Las Vegas supermarkets.
Many of the people who voted today said they did it for convenience. They wanted to beat the crowds and expect lines to grow as Election Day nears.

For a list of voting locations and times: http://www.accessclarkcounty.com/depts/election/English/2010/general/Documents/EVSched_GEN10.pdf

Vote early and avoid the rush on Nov 2nd. Nov. 3rd for Democrats.

Badger-Buckeye Football Game

This evening, my eyes will be somewhat glued to the Badger-Ohio State football game at Camp Randall.
Wisconsin has almost always played the Buckeyes close and tonight should be no exception.
If U.W. wins, I hope there is not a repeat of the October 30, 1993 meeting between the Badgers and Michigan, where the fans stormed the field and many people were seriously injured.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1137870/index.htm
I was working at U.W. Hospital at the time and was involved with some of the treatment of the injured and it was total chaos. But the man who saved many lives that day was the medical director of the City of Madison paramedic service and he was on the radio with numerous ambulances, running codes. I believe the doctor was also in the stands and was helping direct the rescue as well.
Anyways, if U.W. wins, there will be wild partying on State Street. If U.W. loses, there will be wild partying on State Street. Just hope everyone is safe tonight.

Another Democrat Losing Control

George Phillips is running what has seemed like a longshot race against Rep. Maurice Hinchey, D-N.Y. His race has definitely gotten too close for Hinchey’s comfort, if last night’s events are any indication.

After the above video was shot:
After the shooters turned off their cameras and started to break down, Hinchey made a beeline for Kemble and got in his face, according to a YNN videographer who was on the scene. The congressman poked Kemble in the chest aggressively, according to the YNN staffer.
I spoke with Kemble briefly this afternoon, and he told me Hinchey “put his hand on my throat” and then “realized what he had done and walked away.” The YNN shooter told me he did not witness this part of the altercation.

The Democrats are coming unglued.

Very Cool, Carl Edwards

I was watching the pre-race for the Nationwide race and saw Carl Edwards during the National Anthem. Standing next to Carl was a gentleman with Down Syndrome. He looked so proud standing next to Edwards and you know, this is probably one of the highest points in his life.
It's also nice to see NASCAR, unlike most other sports, lets the fans close to the drivers during introductions. Further, kudos to Edwards. Edwards and his team could have had some rich sponsor standing next to him, but Edwards and his team choose this gentleman.
So, in honor of Edwards and his sponsor, AFLAC:

We Knew Dina Titus Lies But Now She Is Also A Cheater

From The Las Vegas Sun: Campaign officials for Republican Congressional candidate Joe Heck are accusing Democratic Rep. Dina Titus of cheating during Thursday night's televised debate.
The campaigns had agreed to a specific format before the debate: Titus and Heck would ask each other questions. Each would be allowed one note card on which to write the questions. The note card would only be used while asking questions.
The rules for the U.S. Senate debate differed. PBS officials confirmed the rules for the Titus-Heck debate.
"My understanding is that they were to have no notes," said Tom Axtell, the station's general manager.
Heck brought a note card and read from it as agreed upon. Titus brought a three-ring binder and appeared to refer to it during her closing statement. She flipped through the pages at least twice during her remarks.
“Nevadans deserve better from their elected officials," Heck campaign manager Grant Hewitt said. "They deserve elected officials who follow the rules, are honest and stand up with integrity. Congresswoman Titus last night chose to cheat in the debate after talking about cheating."

http://www.lasvegassun.com/blogs/nevada-wonk/2010/oct/15/heck-campaign-rep-titus-chose-cheat-debate-after-t/
Dina Titus is a proven liar with her advertisements and her statements. Now, she cannot even go to a debate without cheating. Just think, Titus is a college professor and she said she would not tolerate cheating in her classroom. What a hypocrite.
Of course, The Las Vegas Sun will not rescind their endorsement of her.
If Titus loses her election, she should not be allowed near a classroom in Nevada because she cannot be trusted.
If Dina Titus cannot even be trusted to behave properly at a simple debate, how can we trust her in Congress? She can't tell the truth and she now is a cheater. How desperate or stupid is she? She insults the intelligence of blonde women.

Stupid ObamaCare News

From Fox News: "Under the new health care law, consumers using workplace pre-tax health savings accounts will soon need a doctor's note to pay for Tylenol and an estimated 15,000 other over-the-counter drugs.
Starting Jan. 1, employees who use flexible spending accounts (FSAs), health saving accounts (HSAs), or health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs) to pay for common medications such as pain relievers, cold medicines, antacids and allergy medications will need prescriptions. The new rules don't apply to insulin."

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/10/15/new-health-care-rules-require-doctors-note-pay-otc-drugs-fsas/

People get the FSA's, HSAs and HRAs to save money. Now, to get a bottle of Tylenol, Benedryl, Ibuprofen, etc, you will have to go to a doctor and get a prescription. And of course, you will have to spend money to go to the doctor.

What an asinine rule brought to you by Harry Reid, Dina Titus and Shelly Berkley. And of course, we cannot leave out President Obama.

When people say repeal Obamacare, this is another reason to do so.

Oh, Where Have I Gone Wrong?

My 11 year old son and I had a talk about the Harry Reid-Sharron Angle race. He is very adamant that he supports Harry Reid. Sigh. Obviously, he doesn't read this blog.
Where did I go wrong?
But good for him for making up his own mind.

New Twist In The Eric Scott Case

From the Confederate Yankee: "Erik Scott was shot and killed by Metro Police Officers at approximately 1 PM on July 10, 2010. Shortly thereafter, deputies of the Clark County Public Administrator began calling Erik’s younger brother, Kevin to obtain permission to enter Erik’s Las Vegas condominium, ostensibly to secure it. Between three and four attempts were made to contact Kevin. The first was a message left on his answering machine telling Kevin that the PA’s office intended to enter Erik’s home and asking him to call back. Kevin, who was traveling on business by air, did return the call and spoke with PA Deputy Steve Grodin. Kevin, who had only just heard of Erik’s death at the hands of Metro Police, was trying to serve as the primary point of contact between the authorities and his family while in the midst of making airline connections. Grodin made plain to Kevin that he intended to enter Erik’s home, with or without Kevin’s permission, but was seeking his permission, which Kevin clearly refused to give, telling the Deputy that he was about to board an aircraft and accordingly, would not be reachable for some time.
Despite this warning, the PA’s office continued to call Kevin, leaving messages at 5:57 PM and again at 7:03 PM. It is the 7:03 PM call that appears on You Tube. In that call, Grodin makes clear his intention to enter Erik’s home, but remains intent on obtaining Kevin’s permission. In the message, Grodin identified himself by name as a Deputy with the Public Administrator’s Office. He said that he had already contacted a locksmith because he did not have a key to Erik’s home and that the locksmith was “enroute” to “change out the deadbolt.” Grodin said that he intended to secure “weapons and valuables.” Grodin, who clearly sounds frustrated, said that Erik’s “...girlfriend has been stonewalling me...” and telling him that she [Samantha Sterner] did not want him to enter the house. Grodin said that he knew that she lived there and that her clothing and other property was there. He said that Sterner told him that she had been in touch with Erik’s parents and their attorney, and both did not want him to enter the home, but he said that he did not believe her because he had not been able to contact them and that he had “full authority” to enter the house [It's unclear where Grodin got this idea as Scott's parents were unaware of his desire to enter Erik's home for some time]. He said that there was an open window and he could enter there. He again mentioned that a locksmith was coming and said something unintelligible regarding the “Metro Police,” but in the context of his comments, it’s clear he was saying that the Police were with him. Grodin was running a bluff. He demonstrably did not have authority, full or otherwise, to enter Erik’s home."

There's more, but this seems to open up a whole new can of worms. Why wasn't this brought up at the Scott inquest?

Angle To Reid: Man Up

Even though I had better things to do besides watching the senate debate tonight (listening to my junior high school kids practice their trumpet and sax), Sharron Angle had the quote of the night, as reported by several news outlets:
From Fox News: "Man up Harry Reid," Angle exclaimed at one point, "You need to understand that we have a problem with Social Security." The Republican candidate for the Nevada U.S. Senate race was on the offensive throughout the sixty-minute exchange, accusing her opponent, Democrat and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of mismanaging Social Security in Congress. Angle takes the position of most Republicans, backing partial privatization, which Reid opposes. Read more: http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/10/15/nevada-senate-face#ixzz12Pbpnt8s
On the other hand, Reid never mentioned Sharron Angle's name.
Personally, the comment by Angle and Reid's not mentioning Angle's name are both demeaning and rude. Both are childish, like kids on the elementary school playground.
It would be nice if someone would go up to both of them and just slap them in the face and tell them to grow up.

Obamacare Law Suit Continues

The Obama administration along with Harry Reid just had a huge nightmare, except they were awake. A Federal judge in Florida ruled in favor for the States.
From Reuters: U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson had said at a hearing last month that he would block efforts by the Justice Department to dismiss the lawsuit, led by Florida and 19 other states.
"In this order, I have not attempted to determine whether the line between constitutional and extraconstitutional government has been crossed," Vinson, of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, wrote in his ruling.
"I am only saying that ... the plaintiffs have at least stated a plausible claim that the line has been crossed," Vinson said...

Vinson dismissed four of six claims the states brought against the healthcare law but said he saw grounds to proceed on two counts, including one relating to the way critics say it would force huge new spending by state governments.
On the issue of the so-called "individual mandate," the law's provision that all Americans obtain healthcare insurance, Vinson said the plaintiffs had "most definitely stated a plausible claim" for their objections.
"The power that the individual mandate seeks to harness is simply without prior precedent," he said.

Can we say, Good Bye Obama care?

How The democrats Will Steal The Election: Chapter Two: Election Laws Mean Nothing

From Drudge tonight: "First lady Michelle Obama appears to have violated Illinois law -- when she engaged in political discussion at a polling place! The drama began after Mrs. Obama stopped off at the Martin Luther King Center on the south side of Chicago to cast an early vote. After finishing at the machine, Obama went back to the desk and handed in her voting key. She let voters including electrician Dennis Campbell, 56, take some photos. "She was telling me how important it was to vote to keep her husband's agenda going," Campbell said. According to a pool reporter from the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES at the scene, the conversation took place INSIDE the voting center, not far from the booths. Illinois state law -- Sec. 17-29 (a) -- states: "No judge of election, pollwatcher, or other person shall, at any primary or election, do any electioneering or soliciting of votes or engage in any political discussion within any polling place [or] within 100 feet of any polling place." A top Ilinois State Board of Elections official tells the DRUDGE REPORT that Mrs. Obama -- a Harvard-educated lawyer -- may have simply been ignorant of the law and thus violated it unintentionally."You kind of have to drop the standard for the first lady, right?" the official explained late Thursday. "I mean, she's pretty well liked and probably doesn't know what she's doing." http://drudgereport.com/flash2.htm
Election laws will be thrown aside in 2010. We will have scores of illegal voters, from felons, illegal aliens, to double voting to people voting in the place of other people. Voter fraud has been rampant in Minnesota, Wisconsin and other states. It will happen in Nevada and just about every other state. This is one reason the Democrats are not panicking yet. They know there will be voter fraud and it will help them, especially in close elections. Maybe in the Nevada U.S. Senate race.
Be forewarned, this will be the dirtiest election, until 2012. We may even take the place of Venezuela, as an election fraud liberal paradise in 2012.

Earth To Dina Titus: We Were Better Off Under Bush

Dear Dina Titus:
We were better off under George W. Bush than under President Obama.
Get over it. We are tired of you blaming Bush for your mistakes. Mistakes you could have avoided but choose not to.
Dina Titus, it is time for you to grow up for once in your life. Accept the facts that your policies failed and that Nevada is worse off since you took office. It's not all your fault. Harry Reid, Shelly Berkley, your hero, Nancy Pelosi and President Obama all helped you screw over Nevada.
Please grow up, Dina Titus and become a grown woman instead of a spoiled little brat. Maybe if you were not sheltered all your life, maybe if you ever had a real job, instead teaching political science in college, you would understand the pain people are feeling because of the votes you have taken.
Dina, you are not a smart person, when t comes to the real world. Spend some time in the private sector. Sweat a little. Make a payroll. Do what grown up people do- work at a real job. Then you realize what a failure your policies have been.
Sincerely,
Lasvegasbadger

Las Vegas: We're 164 Out Of 200!!!

To show how bad the depression in Las Vegas has been, Las Vegas is now 164 out 200 in the Best Performing Cities as decided by the Milkin Institute.
http://bestcities.milkeninstitute.org/bestcities2010.taf?rankyear=2010&type=rank200&year=&ID=1964
We rank 6th in salaries but 200 in job growth. I wonder if there is a correlation between the two categories.
We dropped 59 places from last year.
Reno-Sparks is ranked 196th.
But at least we are not as bad as Detroit, which ranks 200th.
Where to move: Texas, which has 3 out of 4 top rankings, with Kileen Texas as number 1.

Who Should Appoint Judges? Bureaucrats Or Voters? Voters!!!

There is a ballot initiative, Number 1 on this year's ballot to decide who should put judges on the bench- should they be appointed by bureaucrats or by voters. There is only one logical answer to this and the obvious answer is: The Voters.
The ballot reads: Shall the Nevada Constitution be amended to provide for the appointment of Supreme Court justices and District Court judges by the Governor for their initial terms from lists of candidates nominated by the Commission on Judicial Selection, with subsequent retention of those justices and judges after independent performance evaluations and voter approval?
http://nvsos.gov/index.aspx?page=298
The ruling elite, for the most part, from both parties, want judges to be selected by a Judicial Commission. They say it will take the politics out the selection process.
This argument is so asinine. Who appoints the judicial commission? Politicians. You don't think the judicial selections won't be political or influenced by money or gifts or friendships? If conservatives are running the commission, liberals would complain and if liberals have the majority, then conservatives would complain. Look how bad it is in getting a Supreme Court justice on the the bench. Further, why should some judicial commission, with members from Clark, Washoe or Nye County, for example, pick the judge for Elko County? Doesn't make any sense.
Right now, judges are elected and sometimes we get duds. The most notable example recently was Elizabeth Halvorsen who was totally incompetent. So, what happened? She was found to be incompetent, she was given training and still was found to be incompetent. they changed her schedule and that didn't work and then she was suspended. She had a trial and she was kicked off the bench. The system worked. The system also worked for a Judge DelVecchio was kicked off the bench in 2008. There have been other cases where judges have been kicked off the bench. http://www.lvrj.com/news/breaking_news/31957834.html
If this was an appointed judge, there is no guarantee that the judge would have been kicked off the bench. The judge would have to face an election after four years and if they get the majority of votes, they stay on the bench. There is no opponent and only one side of the story is presented.
So, say no to the ruling elite of Nevada and keep the present judicial system as it is. Keep having the voters electing judges, not some bureaucrat from the judicial selection commission.
Vote No on question number 1.

CCEA Election Endorsements: What A Shock

CCEA, or the Clark County School District teacher's union came out with their endorsements and to be honest, I was shocked. Shocked, I tell you. They actually endorsed two Republicans, Lt. Gov. Brian Krowlicki and Lynn Stewart in Assembly District 22. They must have some horrible opponents or they are the token Republicans.
Of course, the rest of the 40 partisan elections, they endorsed Democrats.
Of course, I am not going to follow their the union's advice.

Angle-Reid Debate Tonight: Who Cares?

Tonight, is the big Sharron Angle-Harry Reid debate tonight. The media is going nuts over it and going to cover it on radio and television. the Las vegas Sun will say Reid was the greatest orator onthe face of the earth and Angle is Mrs. Devil. The LVRJ maybe a leittle more kind to Angle and not as nice to Reid.
Seriously, anybody who doesn't know who to vote for by now, probably should not be allowed to vote anyways. Angle and Reid are polar opposites. With all the advertisements and news coverage, if you had not made up your mind on who to vote for, then you are just not smart enough to vote. You don't need a debate to solve your problem of who to vote for.
