Germany Still Hearts Hitler

From WND: Four children, ages 7 to 14, have been forcibly taken from their Darmstadt, Germany, home by police armed with a battering ram, and their parents have been told they won’t see them again soon, all over the issue of homeschooling, according to a stunning new report from the Home School Legal Defense Association.HSLDA, the world’s premiere advocate for homeschoolers, said the family of Dirk and Petra Wunderlich has battled for several years Germany’s World War II-era requirement that all children submit to the indoctrination programs in the nation’s public schools.
The shocking raid was made solely because the parents were providing their children’s education, HSLDA said. The organization noted the paperwork that authorized police officers and social workers to use force on the children contained no claims of mistreatment.
“The children were taken to unknown locations,” HSLDA said. “Officials ominously promised the parents that they would not be seeing their children anytime soon.”
The raid, which took place Thursday at 8 a.m. as the children were beginning their day’s classes, has been described by observers as “brutal and vicious.”
A team of 20 social workers, police and special agents stormed the family’s home. HSLDA reported a Judge Koenig, who is assigned to the Darmstadt family court, signed an order authorizing the immediate seizure of the children by force.
“Citing the parents’ failure to cooperate ‘with the authorities to send the children to school,’ the judge also authorized the use of force ‘against the children’ … reasoning that such force might be required because the children had ‘adopted the parents’ opinions’ regarding homeschooling and that ‘no cooperation could be expected’ from either the parents or the children,” HSLDA said.

If this story is true, this is shocking and terribly pathetic.  Clearly, Germany still loves part of the Hitler regime, which is a shame.

I Blame Pat Robertson

From the Las Vegas Sun:
Las Vegas government officials Friday closed Krave Massive, billed as the largest gay nightclub in the country, due to unspecified licensing issues.
The club is on third floor of Neonopolis, a development built at Fremont Street and Las Vegas Boulevard about a decade ago in hopes that it would revive downtown’s failing fortunes. At 84,000 square feet, Krave Massive is housed in space previously occupied by the Galaxy 11 multiplex theater, closed in May 2009.  http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/aug/30/joe-downtown-city-shuts-down-krave-massive-nightcl/
There must be some kind of serious problem with the gay nightclub, otherwise, the City would not shut down a gay night club, partly owned by Las Vegas's most powerful person, Tony Hsieh of Zappos, that is downtown and close it down on Labor Day weekend when they would have gotten one of their biggest crowds of the year.
Maybe the Westboro Baptist Church put a curse on them?

Umm, You re Not Worth $15 An Hour

From the Las Vegas Sun:
Las Vegas workers have walked off their jobs at Subway, McDonald's and other fast food restaurants to call for $15-an-hour wages.
The demonstrations Thursday morning coincide with other strikes planned in about 50 cities across the country. Protests in Las Vegas are centered at two McDonald's restaurants and a KFC.
Organizers say fast food workers are getting paid a median wage of $9.67 an hour and are forced to rely on public assistance to make ends meet.
They're calling for higher wages and the right to form a union without interference from employers.  http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/aug/29/nv-fast-food-strike-vegas/
Seriously, a fast food worker making $15 hour?  For what, flipping burgers?  Sorry, but if you plan on supporting a family on McDonalds wages, you are a very, very stupid person. These jobs are supposed to be for teenagers to gain work experience, not adults raising a family.
And if you don't like the wages at fast food restaurants, don't work there, go work at a place that pays you more.   Oh wait... you chose to work there and you just may be too stupid to work another job that pays more.
And form a union without interference?  Yeah, right.  More stupidity.
So, to the idiots who went out and protested, maybe you ought to get experience and education to improve your life and actually earn a higher wage.
Otherwise, just shut the hell up.

Good Point

From the Best of the Web: "Police seized a painting of Russia's president and prime minister in women's underwear from a gallery in St Petersburg, saying the satirical display had broken unspecified laws," Reuters reports:
The painting showed President Vladimir Putin wearing a tight-fitting slip and brushing the hair of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who is wearing knickers and a bra.The officers also removed a picture of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, his torso covered in tattoos, and two others poking fun at lawmakers who have backed legislation banning so-called gay propaganda, gallery staff said.
Just thank goodness you live in a country where people are free to make fun of our leaders. Unless you're one of those wingnuts who think rodeo clowns are people.

I guess posting this picture of Obama would be considered racists by some liberal racists, I suppose.

The Liberal Anti-Gun Crowd Hates This But...

An 18 year old shot and killed one thug and injured another thug as they tried to burglarize his grandfather's house.
From the Houston Chronicle: A Baytown teenager shot two suspected burglars, killing one of them, after they broke into his grandmother's home, authorities said.
The 18-year-old told Baytown police he was awakened early Wednesday by noise coming from a back room of the home in the 900 block of Brentwood Drive.
The teenager grabbed a shotgun from under the couch where he was sleeping then moved forward to investigate.
He spotted light from an apparent flashlight coming from behind the curtain covering a sliding glass door, Baytown police said.
As the teenager walked toward the kitchen, the back door was suddenly kicked-in. He was immediately confronted by two burglars.
Fearing for his safety, the teen fired several shots at the two men. One of the men, later identified by Baytown police as Charles Allen Dixon III, 40, fell to the floor and died at the scene, authorities said.
The other man, Michael McDaniel, 26, ran back outside and fled, Baytown police said.
McDaniel called a woman who drove him to San Jacinto Hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds. Also in the pickup truck was Dixon's wife, Baytown police said.
McDaniel was flown by Life Flight helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.  http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Baytown-teen-kills-one-suspected-burglar-wounds-4769900.php?cmpid=hpbn
1 dead thug and another who is probably unable to do much after he recovers and goes to prison.  Good shooting, Tex.
But the anti-gun nuts hate this story because they think all guns are evil and that the teen should have run the other way instead of confronting the thugs.
Again, good shooting, teen Tex.

I Have No Problem With Some Mosques Being Declared Terrorist Organizations

From the NY Daily News:
The NYPD slapped a terrorist organization label on mosques in order to put its members under surveillance, it was revealed Wednesday.
Cops opened at least a dozen “terrorism enterprise investigations” after the 9/11 attacks, The Associated Press reported.
A confidential NYPD document shows police wanted to place informants on the boards at mosques and other organizations.
Asked about the report, Mayor Bloomberg defended the tactics.
“What we do is we try to keep this city safe, totally consistent with what the laws require,” he said.
“We believe that we are compliant with those laws.”
But irate Muslim-Americans were calling for a federal probe into the spying that included using informants to record sermons and spy on imams.
Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/new-nypd-muslims-outraged-terror-enterprise-mosque-probes-article-1.1439951#ixzz2dKmYUpBJ
Let's see....
Muslims and 9/11
Muslims and Fort Hood
Muslims and Boston Marathon
Muslims and many other U.S. terrorist attacks and attempted attacks.
If Catholics were doing the same thing, I would have no problem with cops investigating Churches as terrorist organizations.
But it's Muslims, so investigate the Mosques.

This Is Wrong

From the New York Daily News: An appeals court has sided with a hospital that wants to force a 10-year-old Amish girl to resume chemotherapy after her parents decided to stop the treatments.
The court ruled that a county judge must reconsider his decision that blocked Akron Children's Hospital's attempt to give an attorney who's also a registered nurse limited guardianship over Sarah Hershberger and the power to make medical decisions for her.
The hospital believes Sarah's leukemia is very treatable but says she will die without chemotherapy.
The judge in Medina County in northeast Ohio had ruled in July that Sarah's parents had the right to make medical decisions for her.
The appeals court ruling issued Tuesday said the judge failed to consider whether appointing a guardian would be in the girl's best interest. It also disagreed with the judge's decision that said he could only transfer guardianship if the parents were found unfit.
The family's attorney, John Oberholtzer, said Wednesday that the ruling essentially ordered the judge to disregard the rights of the parents.
Andy Hershberger, the girl's father, said the family agreed to begin two years of treatments for Sarah last spring but stopped a second round of chemotherapy in June because it was making her extremely sick.
"It put her down for two days. She was not like her normal self," he said. "We just thought we cannot do this to her."...
"Our belief is, to a certain extent, we can use modern medicine, but at some times we have to stop it and do something else," Hershberger said in a telephone interview.
They opted to consult with a wellness center and treat Sarah with natural medicines, such as herbs and vitamins, and see another doctor who is monitoring their daughter, Hershberger said.
"We see her every day. We watch her really close," her father said. "She runs, plays. She crawls up ladders. She's got a lot of energy, more than she had when she was doing chemo."...
Hershberger said they have not ruled out returning to Akron Children's Hospital if Sarah's health worsens. "We told them if it gets to the point that we cannot do anything for her, we would come back," he said.

From the article, it is clear these are good parents who love their daughter and care for her deeply and don't want her to die.
But they are also a very religious people and believe in God and that God will make the decision if she lives or dies.
The other thing about the Amish is they have no health insurance and they pay cash.  The Amish determines if the cash is best used to treat this girl or if can better help more people.
This is a bad decision by the appeals court and it infringes on the rights of the parents and the Amish religion.

Why The U.S. Shouldn't Bomb Syria In 3 Words

Why The U.S. Shouldn't Bomb Syria In 3 Words: What's the point?
To expand:
It won't stop the civil war.
It won't kick Assad out of Syria and topple the current government.
It won't stop the behavior of the Syrian government.
So, what's the point?

Why The "Black Movement" Has No Legitimacy

Whoppeee!!!!!.. They had a Black March on Washington...  Well actually, they had a Black Liberal with White Racist liberals march and speech making.
Missing?  How about Clarence Thomas, the conservative U.S. Supreme Court Justice?
How about Sen. Tim Scott, GOP and the only Black U.S. Senator, from South Carolina?
Condoleezza Rice?  Nope.
No conservative politician were invited to speak at the March.
Until the Black liberals allow equal access and stop discriminating against Black conservatives, they have no legitimacy.
Racism is still alive and well, especially in the Black community where the liberal white racists and the liberal black racists insist that all Blacks and now Hispanics live under the liberal plantation and rely on the government for their basic needs.

A Special Place In Hell For Her

From the New York Daily News:
A Pennsylvania woman gave birth in the bathroom of a sports bar, smothered the baby boy in a trash bag and then left him to die in a toilet tank — a crime punishable by death.
Amanda Hein, 26, of Allentown, has been ordered held without bail. She was charged with criminal homicide. In Pennsylvania, the intentional murder of a child under 12 is a capital offense.
The baby boy was alive and healthy — carried from 33 to 36 weeks — when Hein delivered him at Starters Pub in Bethlehem, Pa., on Aug. 18, the coroner said.
Hein was watching wrestling on television with a group of friends when her back began hurting, District Attorney John Morganelli said. She went to the bathroom for what seemed like a long time and returned to the table. One of her pals, Luis Rivera, told police that when Hein came back to the table, she grabbed her purse and then went outside to smoke.
Only after she and her friends left the pub did workers make the horrifying discovery in the women’s bathroom.

Of course, she will probably get a book or porn deal and will be called a victim.

Guns Take Out Thugs

From the Detroit Free Press: An off-duty Detroit Police officer shot and killed a 17-year-old early today during an attempted carjacking in Southfield, according to investigators.
The shooting happened as the officer was getting out of his Dodge Charger at 2 a.m. in the parking lot of the Sutton Place Apartments near West Nine Mile and Lahser, Southfield Police Lt. Nick Loussia said in a release.
Two teens armed with handguns approached the officer, who pulled out his own handgun. He shot one of the alleged carjackers, killing the 17-year-old, acording to the release. The second teen, a 16-year-old, dropped his handgun and ran.
Southfield Police officers caught the 16-year-old, who is in custody, according to the release.
Both handguns used by the suspects were recovered and the investigation is continuing.  http://www.freep.com/article/20130826/NEWS03/308260075/Southfield-Detroit-carjacking-fatal-shooting
And from Channel 13 Las Vegas:  A Las Vegas homeowner shot a burglary suspect Monday afternoon.
It happened just before 3:30 p.m. on Marmalade Lane, near Gowan Road and U.S. 95.
Las Vegas police said the homeowner was hiding upstairs inside the home, when they were confronted by the suspect.
Police said one person was taken into custody and was being treated by medical personnel. They were listed in critical condition.
No other details about what happened have been released. http://www.ktnv.com/news/local/Las-Vegas-homeowner-shoots-burglary-suspect-221239041.html
This should take some thug DNA off the planet.

This Doesn't Happen Too Often

Las Vegas will be colder than many areas of Wisconsin tomorrow.
Now, if this happened in Winter, that would be really something.

You Have To Be Kidding

From Channel 13, Las Vegas: The mother of a student who was badly injured in a fight at Canyon Springs High School is speaking out.
A group of young men blended in with seniors gathered for a breakfast Friday morning, and sparked a fight that spilled into the parking lot and a playing field.
Three students were badly hurt, including Georgina Parra-Ureno's son
He was robbed, pistol-whipped and left with severe head injuries.
Parra-Ureno says the school did not have adequate security for the event.  She tells Action News, "There was no visible supervision at all. Students were just walking in. No one was checking for ID. No one was asking them if they even needed to be there."
Canyon Canyon Springs did have increased school police presence on campus on Monday.
Police have arrested two 18 year olds and a juvenile CCSD student in connection with Friday's fight.  http://www.ktnv.com/news/local/Students-injured-in-fight-at-Canyon-Springs-High-School-221263351.html
Way to go, CCSD and the ghetto school, Canyon Springs.  There should been cops on the scene along with security aides and other staff.
How this could have happened is way beyond me.

Update: Military Invents New Word For Crash

From the Las Vegas Sun: Federal officials are working to secure the site where a U.S. Marine Corps aircraft crashed during a hard landing near Creech Air Force Base this afternoon.
The incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. during a routine training mission, according to a statement from the 432nd Wing stationed at Creech Air Force Base.
The plane “experienced a hard landing” on federal land near Indian Springs during the mission, but no one was injured, the statement said.
As of 6:30 p.m., first responders and federal officials were still working to secure the scene.  http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/aug/26/plane-suffers-hard-landing-near-creech-afb-no-one-/
So, if land in the desert or elsewhere, away from the air strip, and it destroys most of the plane, it is now called a hard landing.
Like this?

Military Plane Down By Indian Springs

From the LVRJ: Air Force emergency crews are responding to the site of an aircraft crash north of Creech Air Force Base near Indian Springs, a Creech spokesman said Monday. Tech. Sgt. Shad Eidson said Air Force personnel are trying to confirm the type of aircraft involved in the crash reported at about 3:40 p.m.
The base, 45 miles northwest of Las Vegas, is a hub for remotely piloted aircraft operations typically involving drones such as the MQ-1 and RQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper, which are controlled via satellite link by pilots and sensor operators sitting at computer consoles in ground stations at the base.
However, Eidson said, “We don’t believe right now” that the plane involved in Monday’s crash was a remotely piloted aircraft.
“We are confirming the type of aircraft right now,” he said at 5 p.m. “Our emergency responders did go out.”  http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/military/plane-crash-reported-near-creech-air-force-base
There are a lot of possibilities of the type of plane that went down.  However, don't think for a second that the Air Force will release much information in the coming hours or even days.

Well, That Was A Big Bust

The promised rain maker that would flood the entire Las Vegas Valley was a big bust.
Except for some heavy rain in the mountains and some on the far western side of the Valley, most of the Las Vegas Valley had little or no rain, and if they did get rain, It was more of a drizzle.
Once again it shows that  if you are a bad weather forecaster, they send you to Las Vegas so you can't screw up very badly.

This Is Going To Grow Up To Be A Great Panda?

Zoo workers were excited at the birth of the new giant panda cub as breeding the endangered species in captivity is difficult.
This baby panda isn't even 5 ounces yet but will grow up to be a great Panda... hopefully.

Strange Cat Running Around Detroit

From the Detroit Free Press: Ambling down the block a couple of weeks ago with his 1-year-old daughter perched on his shoulders, Antwaun Asberry sensed something was behind him.
He turned around and spotted a tall creature that appeared to be a cat, only a lot bigger.
“His tail is longer than my arm,” Asberry, a 6-foot-5 Detroiter with a lanky build, said of the cat. “I was like, what the (expletive) ... I don’t know what it is. I just want it gone.”
So do other residents in the northeast Detroit neighborhood, who said they’re unnerved by this supersize cat roaming the streets in recent weeks. They’ve tried calling Detroit police and Animal Control, but have gotten no response. On Friday, the Michigan Humane Society said it will investigate the case and try to find the cat.
We’re going to put some effort into this,” said Nancy Gunnigle, a director with the Humane Society. Cats this size, she said, are “not easy to catch.”
The area around Joann Street south of 8 Mile doesn’t have roaming dogs — an issue publicized in news media reports this past week.
It’s the cat that has bothered residents.
In some places, people might buy exotic cats illegally as a way to show off, said Tom McPhee, executive director of the World Animal Awareness Society, based in Ann Arbor.
“It’s part of the culture,” McPhee said. “You’re showing off your exotic cat because you can and you have the money.” http://www.freep.com/article/20130824/NEWS01/308240015/Big-cat-has-northeast-Detroit-neighborhood-on-edge
Well, it cannot be related to a Detroit Lion, as it would have to be afraid of everything and it's head is not lowered in shame and embarrassment.

Cops Do Have A Sense Humor

From the Detroit Free Press:
Mercer and Quinal — both 44 and 12-year veterans of the force — say they answer domestic violence calls nearly every night.
On that night, while working a 12-hour shift, they also respond to an accident involving an ATV, a break-in at a Wendy’s and even a call about a dog fight that turned out to be dogs barking from the yard of a business.
“Made location. Talked to Rex, the lead dog,” Quinal jokes. “Said, ‘All is fine. We didn’t call you.’ ”
http://www.freep.com/article/20130825/NEWS01/308250093/Detroit-police-patrol
The article is a really good and describes what the cops in Detroit have to go through on every night.

Here Come The Rains?

From the National Weather Service for a flash flood watch:  FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY EVENING

* MOISTURE FROM TROPICAL STORM IVO WILL GET DRAWN UP FROM THE
SOUTH ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE MOJAVE DESERT AND SOUTHERN GREAT
BASIN BEGINNING LATE TONIGHT AND WILL LINGER OVER THE AREA
THROUGH MONDAY. A JET STREAM OVER THE AREA WILL PROVIDE LARGE
SCALE LIFT AND WILL COMBINE WITH THE MOISTURE TO CREATE THE
POTENTIAL FOR MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN AND FLASH FLOODING. THERE
WILL BE TIMES DURING THE WATCH PERIOD WHERE RAINFALL INTENSITY
IS NOT THAT HIGH BUT THE POTENTIAL FOR BURSTS OF HEAVY RAIN
EXISTS FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH EARLY MONDAY EVENING.

* NORMALLY DRY WASHES AND DRAINAGE CHANNELS MAY CONTAIN FLOWING
WATER AT TIMES. WATER FLOWING ACROSS ROADWAYS MAY MAKE THOSE
ROADS IMPASSABLE. BURN AREAS FROM RECENT FIRES WILL BE
ESPECIALLY PRONE TO FLASH FLOODING AND DEBRIS FLOW.
http://forecast.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatxtget.php?cwa=vef&wwa=flash flood watch
Call me skeptical but when the weather forecasters say it will rain, that's a good sign it won't and when it rains, these same forecasters at surprised that it rained.
We will see come Monday, won't we.

Coulter Nails It

From Ann Coulter: In Arab countries, at least, it seems that democracy can come only "at the end of a sword."
Also in 2011, Obama ordered air strikes in Libya against Moammar Gadhafi -- at the precise moment Gadhafi was no longer a threat to anyone. After Bush invaded Iraq, Gadhafi promptly gave up his nuclear program and invited U.N. weapons inspectors in to prove it. Apparently, he wasn't interested in becoming the next Saddam Hussein.
Obama's bombing of Gadhafi was also enthusiastically supported at the Times. Gadhafi, you see, had killed hundreds of his own people. Meanwhile, President Bashar Hafez al-Assad of Syria can preside over the slaughter of more than 100,000 of his people since that time without a cross word from the left.
Libyan people proceeded to stalk and kill Gadhafi in the desert (video on YouTube). A year later, the happy people of Libya murdered our ambassador and three other Embassy staff. But as Hillary said, "What difference, at this point, does it make?"

After all their carping about the Iraq War, you'd think liberals would have waited a few years before getting sentimental about democracy in Egypt and Libya. At least democracy is working in Iraq, despite Obama's attempt to wreck it by withdrawing all U.S. troops. (We still have troops in Germany -- but not in Bush's Iraq.) Still, our ambassador wasn't assassinated in Baghdad.
Speaking of which, what is the geopolitical strategy behind Obama's sending more troops to Afghanistan? The 9/11 attack was not committed by Afghanistan. That country has no history of exporting terrorism. Afghans have traditionally been the invaded, not the invaders. They're too busy herding goats.
The 9/11 attack was planned by foreigners who had decamped to Afghanistan. Although the Taliban was eager for al-Qaida's help in fighting the Northern Alliance, it had no interest in attacking America. Mullah Omar dissented from Osama bin Laden on that brilliant idea.

It was one thing to go in and wipe out the Taliban after 9/11 in retaliation for their allowing bin Laden to set up shop there, but what was the point after that? Three months into President Bush's war in Afghanistan, we had accomplished all we were ever going to accomplish in that godforsaken area of the world.
To quote one of liberals' favorite arguments against the Iraq War: What does victory in Afghanistan look like?
   http://www.anncoulter.com/columns/2013-08-21.html#read_more
Love or her hate her, she makes sense while Obama and the liberals don't.

Revenge Of The Guinea Pig

From CBS Minneapolis: Minnesota health officials are investigating after dozens of people fell sick at an Ecuadorian festival in Minneapolis earlier this month.
At least 81 people have been hospitalized for severe gastrointestinal symptoms after eating guinea pig meat served by one of the festival’s vendors.
The Minnesota Department of Health said many of those people tested positive for salmonella poisoning.
Officials have not identified the vendor.
The August 11 festival was in celebration of Ecuadorian Independence Day. It took place at the New York Plaza Produce on the 1300 block of East Lake Street.   http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2013/08/22/81-sickened-by-guinea-pig-meat-at-ecuadorian-fest/
In the United States, guinea pigs are pets....at times, disgusting pets- they are not a main course served by a company who doesn't know how to cook them.

Filner Resigns, San Diegoans Screwed

You gotta hand it to pervert former Mayor Bob Filner of San Diego, he screws people where ever he goes.  Before, females in San Diego and now the San Diego taxpayers.  No one is safe from the pervert.
From the San Diego Union Times: The San Diego City Council heard from more than two dozen city residents Friday afternoon split on whether it should approve a deal that would see scandal-ridden Mayor Bob Filner agree to resign 263 days after taking office.
After taking nearly an hour of public testimony, the council adjourned for a closed-door session to consider the pending agreement that would limit Filner’s legal and financial exposure stemming from a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a former aide.
Filner has agreed to resign in exchange for acceptance of the deal. Details of the tentative agreement have not been made public, but its broad outline has been confirmed by people close to the negotiations.
The first speaker urged rejection while a second said the mayor was being denied due process to confront accusers who say he harassed them, including his former communications director Irene McCormack Jackson, who filed suit against Filner and the city.
Bill Bernard said paying any of Filner's legal bills or paying him any money was wrong.
"If you agree to pay Bob Filner's expenses, you are telling our future leaders and our youth that it is OK to do wrong," Bernard said. "The payment of his legal fees and judgements are his responsibilities."  http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2013/aug/23/mayor-bob-filner-council-settlement/
What's even more unbelievable is that Filner still had his supporters and the pervert still doesn't get it: “I started my political career facing lynch mobs and I think we have just faced one here in San Diego and you’re going to have to deal with that,” he said. “In a lynch-mob mentality, rumors become allegations, allegations become facts, facts become evidence of sexual harassment, which have led to demands for my resignation and recall. Not one allegation ... has even been independently verified or proven in court. I have never sexually harassed anyone.”  http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2013/aug/23/filner-resigns/
Good bye and good riddance and meanwhile, President Obama remained silent.  Just pathetic.

RIP Dean Meminger

Sadly, another Marquette Warrior basketball has died.
From the New York Daily News: New York playground legend Dean (The Dream) Meminger, who rose to become a New York Knick but later sank the rest of his shots into drugs and hard living, was found dead in a Harlem hotel Friday of what cops said is a possible overdose.
He was 65.
Meminger, a key backup on the Knicks’ 1973 NBA championship team, was discovered fully clothed around noon by staff at the Hamilton Heights Casablanca Hotel after he didn’t check out on time. He had arrived Thursday night.
“We went to knock on his door,” said the manager of the W. 145th St. lodging. “After several knocks, we opened. It was afternoon, and he hadn’t come down.”...
After starring at Rice High School in Harlem, Meminger was an All-American selection for Al McGuire at Marquette.
At Rice, Meminger became the second New York City high school player to be named All-City three straight years, following the legendary Lew Alcindor, who later took the name Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
But Meminger had embarked on a dangerous descent in recent years, succumbing to drugs and almost burning himself to death in a 2009 four-alarm fire in the Bronx. He was found unconscious near his bed in a dilapidated SRO, surrounded by several crack pipes.

I remember watching Meminger at Marquette, playing at the Milwaukee Arena.  e certainly was a great athlete and basketball player.

San Fran's False Medical Dumping Claim

What a pathetic story from the San Fran Chronicle: Timothy Martin is deaf, blind and homeless, and in April he stumbled off a one-way ride from a Reno mental hospital onto the streets of San Francisco.
He found his way to a bar in the Castro neighborhood where, he says, he was thrown out and wound up crying on the sidewalk until an ambulance took him to San Francisco General Hospital.
Since then, the 47-year-old Martin has lost a leg, run up hundreds of thousands of dollars in emergency medical bills, and landed in the city's Laguna Honda long-term rehabilitation hospital.
City investigators suspect this is an extreme example of "Greyhound therapy" - the alleged practice by medical officials in Nevada of dumping indigent or homeless patients on the city.....
"The doctor in Reno wanted me to leave the hospital. ... He told me to come here to San Francisco," Martin, who in addition to being deaf and blind cannot speak, said through an interpreter. "They bought my ticket.
"I never want to go back to Nevada. I hate it there."   http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Deaf-blind-man-called-example-of-patient-4754815.php
So, the guy hates Nevada, so, he didn't want to stay.
Martin's 50-year-old sister, Theresa Mellen of Santa Clara, said her brother lived in Nevada for almost two decades and has been shipped to San Francisco by medical centers in Reno "at least six times in the past couple of years."
That also means California sent him back to Nevada 6 times.  Who is shipping their patients elsewhere?
He began going in and out of hospitals on emergency visits for diabetic and high blood pressure difficulties, Mellen said. She and her three siblings tried to place him in group homes or government-subsidized apartments, but Mellen said her brother would become restless or unhappy with the arrangements and strike out on his own.
Mellen said Martin has no severe mental illness, but often ended up in psychiatric care wards - sometimes involuntarily - because of his range of disabilities.
"We just want him to be happy, maybe in a board-and-care home," Mellen said. "Believe me, if I could buy him a house or just make all his medical troubles go away, I would - but I and my family can't afford that."
So, he has no family in Nevada, he can't be held unless he is a danger to himself, he doesn't want to stay in homes provided for him and his family is in California.  We don't if he told the hospital staff that he wanted to go to California.
This guy is more of a Californian than he is a Nevadan and he should remain in California.

And Obama Has Done what For Blacks?

Showing it's all about him, Obama talk about Martin Luther King's " Have a Dream Speech".
From the Chicago Tribune: President Barack Obama said on Friday that America's history of racial discrimination had contributed to a persistent economic gap between blacks and whites in the 50 years since Martin Luther King's landmark "I have a dream" speech.
Obama said his own story showed the "enormous strides" the United States had made since King's speech, but as Washington commemorates the anniversary of King's address, the disparity between black and white income remained.
"What we've also seen is that the legacy of discrimination, slavery, Jim Crow, has meant that some of the institutional barriers for success for a lot of groups still exist," Obama, the first black U.S. president, said in answering a question at a town hall meeting at Binghamton University in New York state.
"You know, African-American poverty in this country is still significantly higher than other groups. Same is true for Latinos. Same is true for Native Americans," he said.
Divisive U.S. politics is a factor in the growing gap between rich and poor in America, Obama said.
  http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/sns-rt-us-usa-dream-equality-20130823,0,5701746.story
So, what exactly has President done for Black Americans?  Other than the rich and the athletes, he barely recognizes that black America exists.  He doesn't go into the inner city, except to campaign and even that is very rare.  Blacks suffer from high unemployment and high poverty and a large reliance on government.
So, what has Obama done for Black middle America?

Good Bye, Good Riddance

No Big Deal

From the Las Vegas Sun: Officials at the South Point casino in Las Vegas say plans for a Mexican-style rodeo there next month have been cancelled.
Steve Stallworth of the South Point Arena and Equestrian Center confirmed Friday the World Series of Charreria was a no-go. The rodeo looked unlikely after Tuesday, when Clark County commissioners upheld a ban on horse roping events.
Animal rights activists say roping a horse's legs can trip the animal and cause serious injury. Event organizers say cowboys catch and release the horses, and intentional tripping is against internal policy.
Commissioners heard hours of impassioned testimony from both sides before voting 3-3 on a temporary moratorium on the county's horse roping ban.
The split vote killed the moratorium, but commissioners plan to revisit the underlying ordinance in coming weeks.  http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/aug/23/nv-horse-roping-clark-county/
This rodeo probably would not have brought in the money as other rodeos we have in the county.
The Mexicans of this community need to realize that we have standards and that they have to adjust to our standards.  We don't need to import their standards.

ObamaCare Disasters Part 48753

From Fox News:
Delta Air Lines has issued an urgent warning about the impact of ObamaCare, claiming the law's implementation will contribute to a roughly $100 million increase in health care costs next year alone.
The astonishing figure was included in a letter from Delta executive Robert Kight to officials in the Obama administration. The website RedState.com was the first to obtain and publish the letter earlier this week.
A representative with Delta confirmed the authenticity of the letter to FoxNews.com.
"Like many large companies, Delta faces significantly increased healthcare costs in 2014 and beyond," the company said in a statement on Friday. "Delta will absorb the vast majority of those increased costs so that we can continue providing a high value, high quality health plan. Consistent with our culture, Delta will always keep the best interests of our people in mind in connection with the healthcare and other benefits we provide."
In the original letter, Kight disputes the notion that the law -- the biggest parts of which take effect at the start of 2014 -- will mean "business as usual" for big employers. A combination of factors, he claimed, will "mean that the cost of providing health care to our employees will increase by nearly $100,000,000 next year."
Part of that is normal medical inflation and the phase-out of an assistance program tied to the health care law. But a large chunk of it, the exec claimed, comes from various fees and costs associated with the implementation of the health care law.

Here are the 5 promises of ObamaCare that Senile/Liar/Coward Harry Reid and Felony Thief Dina Titus voted for:
1.  The law won’t raise taxes on families making less than $250,000 a year.  Well, the Supreme Court said that ObamaCare and it's costs are taxes, so this is a lie.
2. If you like your health plan, you can keep it.  This promise has been broken thousands, if not millions of times.
3.  It will protect Medicare  It guts Medicare by taking hundred of millions of dollars from Medicare
4.  It will cut premiums by $2,500:  Hahahahaha
5.  It will bend the cost curve down and reduce the deficit: See 4
ObamaCare has been brought to by Democrats and Democrats only.
If the Republicans were smart, and they are not, this would be the number 1 issue in the 2014 and 2016 elections.

What Could They Be Possibly Be Talking About?

From Fox News: Jurors are set to begin a second day of deliberations in the court-martial of the Army soldier charged in the 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood.
Maj. Nidal Hasan is accused of killing 13 people and wounding 30 others at the Texas military base in 2009.
The case was given to jurors Thursday afternoon, who deliberated for about three hours before asking the judge if they could review testimony from the Fort Hood police officer who shot the gunman and ended the rampage.
The judge agreed before dismissing the jurors for the night. Deliberations are scheduled to resume Friday morning.

There was no defense given by the terrorist and only minimal questioning of witnesses.
What could the jury be talking about?  What to have for dinner?  How to milk the system?
The jury ought to convict the terrorist and sentence him to death in the penalty phase.

Pawn Stars Review: August 22, 2013

Well, apparently, the Pawn Star's Gold and Silver Shop is not open 24/7.
From the Las Vegas Sun: Famed Las Vegas haunt Gold & Silver Pawn Shop is closing for a week of renovations.
Featured on the History Channel’s smash show “Pawn Stars,” the shop will be closed from Aug. 25 to Aug. 30, to renovate the store’s interior. Owners have not yet announced how extensive the work will be.
“Pawn Stars” — featuring Rick Harrison, Richard Benjamin Harrison, Corey Harrison and Austin “Chumlee” Russell — takes viewers into the everyday lives of the dealmakers. Each episode deals with an array of antiques and collectibles and the people trying to pawn or sell them.
The store, located at 713 S. Las Vegas Blvd., welcomes about 4,000 people daily.
They actually need to get a bigger building to accommodate the crowds they get on a daily basis.
Tonight, there two new episodes.
In the first episode, the first Corey and Rick went to visit a guy who had a replica of the Blues Brother car in the first Blues Brothers movie.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Blues_Brothers_(film)
The guy wanted $25,000 for the replica and Rick didn't make an offer and there was no sale.
The next guy brought in a blue print of the electric chair from a prison in Joliet, IL.  The guy wanted $5000 for the blueprints.  Time for an expert, Mark from the Clark County Museum.
Mark said the blue print was legitimate.  Corey offered $800.  The guy came down to $2200 and then $1600.  Corey went to $1500 and that was the sale price.
The story line of the show was the placement of the copy machine and Corey and Chumlee destroying Rick's desk.  In the end Rick fixed his cheap desk but the Old Man bought a new desk.  In the end, they gave away Rick's desk.
The next guy brought in an antique timer for racing pigeons.  http://www.pigeon.org/
The guy wanted $300 and Rick offered $150.  Rick offered $200 and that was the selling price.
The next guy brought in a bunch of knives- 14 of them.  The guy wanted $1200 for 4 of them and Rick offered $1000.  Rick gave him the $1200.
In the 2nd episode, Rick and Corey went to a guy's house to look at an ATV.  It was an 1989 Honda Pilot ATV.
Pilot1.jpg
Rick took it for a ride but it had a lot smoke coming from it.  The guy wanted $7000 and Rick offered $3500 and then $4000 and that was the sale price.
The story line is that Chumlee brought in a goldfish for the store mascot.
The next lady brought in a post card of the Rolling Stones with all 5 signatures of the original band.  http://www.rollingstones.com/  The lady wanted $3000.  Time for an expert, Steve Grad, from PSA/DNA.  He didn't think the signatures were real.  There was no sale.

The next guy brought in a 1950's Ferrari 500 model car, looking like the car above.  The guy wanted $2000 and time for an expert, Johnny from the Toy Shack.  The model was made out of aluminum and given to race teams.  He said the model was worth about $3500.  Corey offered $1000.  The guy went to $3000.  Corey went to $1200 and then went to $1500 firm and that was the selling price.
The Old Man was listening to a police scanner of police calls, but really could not have been listening to the Las Vegas Metro Police- but that would not be possible because he was using an old scanner and Metro uses a trunked version of police radio traffic.
That wraps up another 2 new episodes of Pawn Stars and if you are planning on visiting the shop int he next few days, don't.

Strange

From the LVRJ: Two people accused of plotting to capture and kill a Las Vegas police officer as part of a domestic terrorist movement were arrested Tuesday after a months-long undercover investigation.
David Allan Brutsche, 42, and Devon Campbell Newman, 67, alleged to belong to a “sovereign citizen movement,” were arrested by Las Vegas police counter-terrorism officers and booked Wednesday on charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder, among other charges.
Police had been investigating Brutsche and Newman since April. The undercover detectives met with the suspects about 30 times and secretly recorded hundreds of hours of the conversations, according to a police report.
The pair “expressed a deep hatred” for police and targeted officers for “perceived violations of Constitutional Civil Rights” during traffic stops, the report said.
Brutsche and Newman planned to kidnap a random police officer using a team of “sovereign citizens,” place the officer in a makeshift “jail” and try the officer in their own court.
After obtaining a “conviction,” the pair planned to execute the officer, the report said.
The “sovereign citizen movement” is a loose group of citizens who claim they don’t answer to U.S. laws, oppose taxes, and especially dislike police. They are considered a domestic terror threat by the FBI and there are about 100,000 “hardcore” members of the movement, according to a 2010 Southern Poverty Law Center report.   http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/crime-courts/man-woman-arrested-plot-capture-kill-las-vegas-police-officers
One hand, these two are pair of morons.
But, as their defense attorney's going to try do, I wonder how much Metro undercover cops influenced these two moron's behavior.

There Some Great People In Las Vegas

Today, I had a rotten day.  My car broke down, my surgery site went bad, I had to work a double shift and the day just sucked.
I called a local taxi service for a ride home from my 2nd job and the very nice lady listened to my sad story and she gave me a completely free taxi ride and I could not even give her a tip.
So, yes, there are still nice people in the Las Vegas Valley.

ObamaCare Disaster, Part 2

Other the senile, cowards, liars and the brain dead, no one is really defending ObamaCare anymore.
From Business First: United Parcel Service Inc. plans to remove thousands of spouses from its medical plan because they are eligible for coverage elsewhere. The Atlanta-based logistics company points to the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, as a big reason for the decision, Kaiser Health News reports.
The decision comes as many analysts are downplaying the Affordable Care Act's effect on companies such as UPS, noting that the move reflects a long-term trend of shrinking corporate medical benefits, Kaiser Health News reports. But UPS repeatedly cites Obamacare to explain the decision, adding fuel to the debate over whether it erodes traditional employer coverage, Kaiser says.
Rising medical costs, “combined with the costs associated with the Affordable Care Act, have made it increasingly difficult to continue providing the same level of health care benefits to our employees at an affordable cost,” UPS said in a memo to employees.  http://www.bizjournals.com/louisville/blog/health-care/2013/08/ups-to-drop-15000-spouses-from.html
Can anyone deny that the liberals hope ObamaCare fails and the only other choice will single payer health care.
The war on Americans continues by the Democrats.

CCSD Reaches Settlement With Teachers

Even though the local media has not reported it, the CCSD school board and it's teacher's have agreed to a contract and it involves getting back their step pay raises and some older teachers who have reached the top of their pay scale, a one time pay out.
The union is also quiet about the settlement, but an elected union rep spoke today at our school, they said a settlement was reached.
I guess we will see tomorrow, Thursday, if it is true or not.

ObamaCare Disaster Continues

From the Las Vegas Sun: The Nevada State AFL-CIO passed a resolution slamming Obamacare today.
The union claims certain provisions of the law would destroy union health plans, making the usual staunch allies of President Barack Obama just the latest Las Vegas union to publicly condemn the health care law.
Unions had originally backed the law but have grown increasingly skeptical of what union leaders like D Taylor, head of UNITE Here and former head of Las Vegas’ Culinary Local 226, called the law’s “perverse incentives” that potentially could shutter union Taft-Hartley health plans and leave workers without good health insurance.
Union leaders are concerned with a provision of the law that call for the provision of health insurance for people who work more than 30-hours per week, meaning workers’ hours could be cut so that employers don’t have to provide health insurance.
“The unintended consequences of the ACA will lead to the destruction of the 40 hour work week, higher taxes and force union members onto more costly plans,” the resolution reads.  http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/aug/21/nevada-afl-cio-condemns-obamacare/
And here is Senile/Coward/Liar Harry Reid had this to say:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid offered a feel-good presentation for the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce today in a question-and-answer session with chamber Chairman Jay Barrett
Here’s a summary of the questions and Reid’s answers:
What’s in store for health care in the future?
We’re a great nation and can’t have upwards of 40 million to 50 million people with no way to go to a hospital or see a doctor. Throughout our history, we’ve had presidents wrestle with how to provide better health care. Obamacare is anything but socialized medicine. It’s more about access to insurance — and a lot of people didn’t like that. What we’re trying to do is enable everybody to have the same health insurance as I have. But the problem we’ve had is that insurance companies spend more on themselves than they do on patients, and we’ve spent 70 years trying to find a solution. Is it a perfect bill? Of course not. But it’s a good one. If there are things we can change, we’ll make it better.  http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/aug/21/reid-obamacare-isnt-perfect-its-good-yucca-mountai/
Seriously, does anybody out there deny Senile Reid is really senile?

The End Is Here

After 3 months of Summer vacation, it is time to go back to my real job of being a teacher in the Clark County School District.
Blogging may become a little lighter.
Crap, I enjoyed waking up at noon.

Good For The Clark County Commission Except For...

From The Las Vegas Sun: The World Series Charreria event scheduled for the South Point in late September has been effectively canceled after Clark County commissioners decided Tuesday not to suspend a county ordinance forbidding horse roping, a key part of the traditional Mexican rodeo.
The issue of roping horses by the legs and when it crosses the line to become horse tripping has been a topic of intense debate and scrutiny over the past month.
Tuesday was the third meeting in a row commissioners have taken up the issue, and a standing-room-only crowd packed the commission chambers to weigh in.
On one side of the debate, animal rights advocates argued that any type of roping of a horse that could trip and injure it constitutes animal cruelty.
Others, including many leaders from the Hispanic community, said the “catch-and-release” style ropes used at charreria events don’t harm the horses and that the rodeos are an important celebration of Mexican culture.  http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/aug/20/county-commission-says-no-horse-roping-event/
Guess what, another Mexican tradition, bull fighting, isn't allowed in the U.S..
I'm sorry, while I am not comfortable with a regular rodeo, there are protections for the cows, and many times, the cow wins.  From the videos I have seen, horse tripping is not a sport and it puts the horses in danger.
If these Mexicans want to hold a Mexican rodeo, have it in Mexico.
Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani decided to change her vote.  I wonder what she was paid to change her vote?

Newspaper Wars In Las Vegas

From the LVRJ:
The publisher and editor of the Las Vegas Sun filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court on Tuesday alleging his own family members conspired with Stephens Media, operators of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, to end a Joint Operating Agreement that has been in place for 24 years and governs publication of the two newspapers.
In a separate motion, attorneys for Brian Greenspun are seeking a temporary restraining order and injunction to set aside several votes that took place on Aug. 7 during a special meeting of Greenspun family members, who are Las Vegas Sun stockholders and the directors of Greenspun Media.
Court documents stated that negotiations between Stephens Media and the Greenspun family have been taking place since early summer.
According to the lawsuit, Greenspun Media directors voted 3-1 during the special meeting to accept ownership of the URL, lasvegas.com. The website, which is currently owned by Stephens Media, is leased to a company owned by Greenspun Media. The URL is currently being used by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
At the same meeting, stockholders of the Las Vegas Sun voted to end the Joint Operating Agreement.
The move could effectively end the print edition of the of the Las Vegas Sun, although the Greenspuns could attempt to print the newspaper on their own. The Greenspuns would still control the LasVegasSun.com website.
Brian Greenspun voted against both moves.
His sisters, Susan Greenspun Fine and Janie Greenspun Gale, along with his brother Danny Greenspun, supported the motions.
In a letter of intent dated Monday between Stephens Media and Greenspun Media Group CEO Paul Hamilton, the Joint Operating Agreement would be terminated for a cost of $10 and the website URL would be transferred to the Greenspuns. Stephens Media would pay each Greenspun sibling $70,000 as a closing price.  http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/crime-courts/las-vegas-sun-publisher-sues-alleges-family-conspired-stephens-media
Wow, only $70,000 is what the Sun is basically worth?
It really doesn't make much of a difference if the Sun is no longer printed because they have no advertising and like most liberals, they have to rely on a conservatives to get through life.

When Will The Racist Trayvon Martin Supporters March For Christopher Lane?

From Fox News:
Prosecutors on Tuesday charged two teenagers accused of gunning down an Australian student in Oklahoma for the “fun of it” with first-degree murder, and a third teen with being an accessory.
Officials say 22-year-old Christopher Lane, who was visiting the U.S. on a baseball scholarship at East Central University, was jogging along a road in Duncan, Okla., after visiting his girlfriend on Friday when he was shot in the back, allegedly by the teens.
Terri Moore from the Stephens County Courthouse says 16-year-old Chancey Allen Luna and 15-year-old James Francis Edwards Jr. were charged as adults with first-degree murder. Both are being held without bond.
Bond was set at $1 million for 17-year-old Michael Jones, who allegedly drove the vehicle carrying the other suspects.  He was charged with the use of a vehicle in the discharge of a weapon and accessory to murder after the fact. Jones is considered a youthful offender but will be tried in adult court.
Prosecutor Jason Hicks called the boys "thugs" in court, saying Luna was sitting in the rear seat of a car when he pulled the trigger on a .22 caliber revolver and shot Lane once in the back. Hicks said Jones was driving the vehicle and Edwards was in the passenger seat.
Edwards has had run-ins with the law previously and had been in court Friday, the day of the killing, to sign documents related to his juvenile probation.
"I believe this man is a threat to the community and should not be let out," Hicks said as he requested no bond for Edwards. "He thinks it's all a joke."
Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/08/21/police-say-teen-shot-australian-student-in-oklahoma-for-fun-it/#ixzz2caU0LV8D
The murder victim is white and two of the thugs are black and one thug is white.
So, will Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson Jr. and all the racists who marched for Trayvon Martin also march and raise money on the behalf of Christopher Lane?
The country's biggest racist, President Obama has been silent.  If President Obama had a son, would he look lie Christopher Lane?
Or will these thugs be supported by their family who will say they were just poor misunderstood kids?
Will the media make this front page news or lead the news broadcasts?  Well, Channel 13 of Las Vegas already has told us that by not running the story in the main part of the news and refuses to put the story on it's web site.  But then they have a black reporter, Rikki Cheese who is one of the Valley's race baiters, so it shouldn't be much of a surprise.
People wonder why we have and always will have a racial divide and we will have racism and the Trayvon Martin and Christopher Lane cases are example why racism is alive and well in the United States.  Black racism and white liberal racism is alive and well in the United States

Coming To A City NearYou: Obamaville- Shootings, Corruption

From the Chicago Tribune: Five people were shot, one fatally, this evening in the Uptown neighborhood along a Safe Passage route outside a church that was holding a prayer service at the time, officials said.
Four shootings in the city since then have also left at least six people injured.
The Uptown shooting happened at 5:57 p.m. on the 4500 block of North Sheridan Road, police said.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-cops-5-shot-in-uptown-20130819,0,3627548.story

And this:
Mayor Rahm Emanuel's administration on Monday produced a letter showing it knew about questions surrounding Amer Ahmad and a controversial government contract in Ohio before the mayor hired him as Chicago's comptroller in April 2011.
The letter was released as the administration attempted to show how it vetted Ahmad, who pleaded not guilty Monday in federal court to a kickback scheme stemming from his tenure as Ohio's deputy treasurer. Ahmad, 38, abruptly resigned from his City Hall job nearly a month ago. The administration has said Emanuel didn't know about Ahmad's federal problems until the former aide was indicted last week.
In a letter to the Emanuel transition team dated April 1, 2011, attorney Vincent Connelly said he had interviewed Ahmad about an Ohio contract awarded to an East Coast bank and found Ahmad "acted appropriately." The bank was awarded a lucrative contract in 2010 after hiring a friend of Ahmad's as its lobbyist, a deal that led to Ohio newspaper reports and a campaign attack ad against Ahmad's boss questioning the arrangement.  http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/ct-met-city-comptroller-indicted-0820-20130820,0,7178918.story
Nothing like a few shootings and corruption in the mayor's office by an Obamaite to make Chicago interesting.
The Democrat Party war on humanity continues.

Nice Editorial, If Matt Ward Is Serious

Could Hell been frozen over?
Matt Ward, a liberal's liberal has come in favor of Yucca Mountain being opened up.  The only question I have is if he is serious.
From the PVT: I drive around this valley and I often think to myself, what a pretty place.
The mountains and the sky and the wide open spaces are great. I like the weather and the people and the wildlife. I like that I live just far enough from a big city to enjoy its amenities, but can leave the headaches that come with living in one behind.
Pahrump is idyllic in a lot of ways. It really is.
The only real problem here, in this valley, is the economy. Sure, there’s some social issues. Violence and drugs among them that are a little too prevalent for such a pretty place. But that’s America these days, it seems.
Even many of these social problems are rooted in economics.
I think many agree, we could use some money around here, some industry, some jobs. Pahrump can’t all be retirees, and it can’t be all rural poverty either. It also can’t just be a tourist destination, though we welcome friendly visitors with open arms.
Pahrump and its 36,000 people need something more.
The dilemma for us is the difficulty in attracting business and industry here. It is not that easy, particularly when business isn’t growing much except on Wall Street, and especially when Pahrump is competing with so many similarly situated small towns doing exactly the same things to lure new commerce.
This is why I think county officials and many locals, including me, disagree with Sen. Harry Reid and President Barack Obama and Gov. Brian Sandoval.
We disagree that Yucca Mountain isn’t a good idea.
It is the one asset — everyone around here who has thought about it for a few seconds comes to realize this — that can pull this area’s economy out of a sinkhole. It is the one asset that can create jobs overnight, spur new business, new housing and development and inject new dollars and lots of them right into the community. It really is.
And not just beneficial to Pahrump, it’s a boon for Nevada, a state with so little economic diversification that our financial destinies are firmly linked to Chinese gamblers, commodity prices and Southern California party-goers more than almost anything else. Lose one and the whole state falls off a cliff.  http://pvtimes.com/opinion/editor-reid-obama-sandoval-all-wrong-yucca.html?j
I have to give Ward credit for his eloquent support of Yucca Mountain
Now, the only questions is if he is serious.

Tick The Sick Is Sick

Tick Segerblom is a Nevada state legislator who love marijuana but hates prescription drugs to people who are in constant pain.
Tick is not a doctor and has no medical experience, except when he played doctor with a Barbie doll when he was 10 years old.
But this nanny/slug is trying to intimidate doctors and patients into not prescribing needed medication for their pain.
From KXNT: A Nevada legislator asked the drug company that makes OxyContin to turn over information about Nevada doctors suspected of overprescribing the powerful pain medication.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Sen. Tick Segerblom wrote a letter to the president of the drugmaker Purdue Pharma on Friday, saying the company has an ethical duty to provide the information to the Nevada Board of Medical Examiners.
The Las Vegas Democrat is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary and longtime backer of efforts to curb prescription drug abuse.
He made the request days after two California lawmakers did the same based on a Los Angeles Times article that the company has a database of 1,800 doctors who showed signs of dangerous prescribing but has referred only 154 cases to authorities since 2002. http://lasvegas.cbslocal.com/2013/08/19/segerblom-wants-names-of-doctors-who-overprescribe/
In an interview with KXNT, Tick the Sick decided upon himself that use of pain medication is good, but on a limited basis, and God forbid if you need the medication more than a few months, well, Tick the Sick has decided that the patient and their doctor don't know what they are doing.
My personal opinion is that Tick the Sick gets into a nasty accident or has a nasty illness that causes a lot of pain and let's see how Tick the Sick handles it.

This Will Be Overturned Quickly

From the Las Vegas Sun: A Clark County district judge ruled today that schoolteachers’ work email addresses are not considered a matter of public record.
Nevada’s Eighth Judicial District Judge Douglas Smith dismissed Nevada Policy Research Institute’s public records lawsuit against the Clark County School District, ruling that the “requested email database is confidential” and “not a public book or a public record.”
“The court concludes that CCSD’s interests in nondisclosure clearly outweigh the interest in access in this narrow case,” Smith said in his decision.
NPRI sued the School District after it denied several public records requests for the teacher emails. The conservative think tank has been waging an email campaign against the Clark County Education Association, sending email blasts to thousands of teachers encouraging them to drop their union memberships.  http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/aug/19/judge-rules-against-think-tank-bid-access-teacher-/
This is a senile liberal judge and this ruling won't stand.
E-mail addresses are public record, as many courts have ruled across the country.
And as a teacher, we get spam e-mail all the time, I get probably 10 a day, so what's different from this spam e-mail from NPRI's e-mail?
Finally, if a teacher got an e-mail from NPRI, all they have to do is delete it.  Is that such a big deal?  Us teachers are big boys and girls, we can handle an NPRI e-mail but apparently the teacher's union and CCSD think differently.

Sad Tribute To Fallen CHP Officer

From the LVRJ:
A California highway patrolman in Las Vegas for his bachelor party died after being thrown from his pickup during a carjacking Sunday morning.
The patrolman was the second off-duty officer to be carjacked at a Strip hotel valet in a week.
But Sunday’s ended in the death of Jesus Manuel Magdaleno Jr., a 33-year-old officer with eight years experience at the California Highway Patrol, the last three years at the Visalia, Calif., office as a graveyard shift patrol officer, according to fellow Visalia officer Scott Harris.
He was in town with friends and family to celebrate his upcoming September wedding.
Magdaleno and his friend Felix Brandon Cruz, 31, were loading luggage into the back of a 2009 Ford pickup at the Flamingo Las Vegas valet area about at 11 a.m. The keys were in the ignition and the truck was running when James Robert Montgomery, 29, got in and drove away with Cruz in the bed, according to Las Vegas police.
Magdaleno chased the truck on foot, identified himself as an officer and jumped in as it slowed, according to an arrest report.
A witness from the 17th floor of Bally’s casino told police she heard Magdaleno and Cruz screaming for help as she saw the truck moving at a high rate of speed.
Montgomery headed west on Flamingo Road and ran three red lights before crashing into an SUV at the entrance of the Rio hotel. Cruz and Magdaleno were both thrown from the bed of the truck.
Magdaleno was pronounced dead at the scene. Cruz was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition. He is not expected to survive his injuries, according to medical personnel.  http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/crime-courts/california-patrolman-killed-sunday-carjacking-accident
RIP to the officer, prayers for the families, fellow officers and friends involved and hope the other fellow pulls through.

And They Called It Rocky Road

From Channel 13 Las Vegas: The Nevada Highway Patrol was called to sticky situation Sunday morning.
A semi truck, carrying ice cream, rolled over on U.S. 95 northbound at Railroad Pass.
The driver and passenger in the truck were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
No other vehicles were involved.
NHP said the truck hit the guardrail and then went off the road.
A portion of U.S. 95 was expected to be shut down until around 11:30 a.m. while the ice cream was transported to another truck.  http://www.ktnv.com/news/local/NHP-called-to-rollover-crash-involving-ice-cream-truck-220110671.html
Too bad I didn't know about, think about all the free samples of ice cream they had.

Either The Lawyer Has No Ethics Or The Mother

Either the attorneys for the thugs discovered one heck of an alibi or they are they worst scum of the earth.
From the new York Daily News: Attorneys are set to pin a Georgia mother who witnessed her 13-month-old son heartlessly shot between the eyes as the real killer behind his death.
Defense attorneys say Sherry West had "financial interest in the death of her son," Antonio Santiago, after she took out a life insurance policy before his savage murder in March, according to a pretrial motion.
"Other evidence of record suggests Sherry West is mentally unstable, gave several inconsistent accounts of how the crime transpired, and had a financial interest in the death of her son in the form of an insurance policy," public defender Kevin Gough said in a court motion filed Aug. 5.
Jury selection begins Monday at the Cobb County courthouse in Marietta where 18-year-old De'Marquise Elkins faces life in prison if convicted of Antonio's murder.
West was pushing her child in a stroller on March 21, six weeks after his first birthday, when prosecutors say she was held at gunpoint by the then 17-year-old whose age spared him a possible death sentence if convicted.Elkins' alleged accomplice, 15-year-old Dominique Lang, who has told investigators Elkins fired the gun that shot the boy, is also charged with murder but will be tried later on. He's expected to be a key witness against Elkins.
Hoping to debunk West's innocence, defense attorneys argue that West was the only one who claims to have seen Elkins pull the trigger.
She also jumped to cash in her life insurance policy on her baby in the days immediately after, according to her 21-year-old daughter, Ashley Glassey.
Speaking to WTLV in late March, Glassey said her mother called her just days after Antonio's shooting to inform her of her young brother's death and also ask, "How soon do you think the life insurance policy will send me a check?"
Glassey said her mother's bizarre behavior of crying one moment and sounding completely fine the next, made her suspicious.

I sure hope the lawyers know what they are talking about or may they rest in hell.

Interesting...

From the Daily News: The latest experiment in American journalism is a throwback: a new daily newspaper to compete against an established one in a big city.
With Monday's debut of the Long Beach Register, the ambitious owners of the Orange County Register are expanding their bet that consumers will reward an investment in news inked on paper and delivered to their doorsteps.
The competition is the Long Beach Press-Telegram, which was founded more than a century ago and maintains an average weekday circulation of about 55,000.
As a result of the budding newspaper battle, this city of 468,000 is joining the likes of Chicago, Philadelphia and Boston as what has become a rarity in 21st century America - the two newspaper town. Never mind shrinking circulations and online news migration.

This will be easy to predict:  If it is a conservative newspaper and editorial pages, it will succeed.  If they are liberal, they will flame out.
They don't have a web site yet.

Stupid WIsconsin Local Politician

You have to wonder about this little petty Napoleon type local alderwoman and if she has any brains up in her noggin.
From the Wausau Daily Herald: A recently-elected Schofield City Council member appears to be using her position to force her neighbor to get rid of his racing pigeons or face fines from the city.
Brian Mader, 38, lives on Ridgeland Avenue with his family and about two dozen homing pigeons that he has kept in lofted coops in his backyard for four years. In one loft, he has about 10 birds that are retired from racing, and in the other, he has 15 that he takes all over the state to compete in races.
Two houses down on Ridgeland Avenue lives Sue Martell, who was elected to the City Council in April and now leads the city’s Health and Sanitation Committee.
Shortly after her election, Martell — who Mader said has never liked his birds — began her effort to rid the neighborhood of what city ordinance refers to as prohibited “fowl.” That effort culminated this week when Martell and the rest of the council voted unanimously, based on a recommendation from Martell’s Health and Sanitation Committee, that Mader must remove the pigeons or face fines of $114 a day.
At issue is Martell’s claim that residents in her neighborhood have complained to her about the birds, asking her to get rid of them. A July 20 letter sent to Mader from Schofield building inspector Dan Dziadosz said the city “is taking a proactive initiative to address a list of concerns that a citizens group has provided. ... Pigeons from your property have been noticed by adjacent residents as roosting on rooftops and defecating about the neighborhood.”
http://www.wausaudailyherald.com/article/20130817/WDH01/308170372/Ruffled-feathers-Schofield-officials-take-aim-man-s-homing-pigeons-video-?nclick_check=1
Holy crap, Batman, the guy's birds poop.  And so do Robins, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Sparrows and other numerous birds that fly in the neighborhood.  Does this idiot alderman want to ban those birds as well?
As it turns out that no one has complained about the birds in the neighborhood and the petty little tyrant lied about it.
Finally, this idiot politician and the city have this little problem:
They're homing pigeons and what do homing pigeons do?  They return home, so even if the owner gets rid of the birds, there is a good chance they will return to his home.  That's what these birds do naturally.
I think, now that the petty little tyrant, Sue Martell has been exposed to be a complete moron, the City of Schofield will change their minds and allow the guy to keep his birds.
And if the owner can't solve the problem with the city, maybe he can enlist the help of pigeon owner, Mike Tyson to help convince the city.

I hope they do a better job with the lap around the Strip this year than last year.  In years past, after the the drivers were done driving on the Strip, they would park their cars for several hours outside the Hard Rock so fans can take pictures of the cars.  Last year, that did not happen.
But it's great that NASCAR comes back to Las Vegas as it adds $millions to the local economy.

Life In Obamaville: Democrats War On Minorities

From the Chicago Sun Times:
Two people were killed and 18 others were wounded in shootings across the city since Friday night.
The most recent fatal shooting occurred late Saturday in the Austin neighborhood.
About 11:30 p.m., one man was killed and another wounded in a shooting in the 0 to 100 block of South Parkside Avenue, police said.  http://www.suntimes.com/21989802-761/two-dead-18-wounded-in-shootings-since-friday-night.html
And the response of President Obama on his hometown violence?..........
And Obamaite Mayor Emmanuel?..........
The Democrat war on minorities continues.

All Courtsey Of Obama

From the Chicago Sun Times: Jose Castro craned his neck towards the clear blue sky and watched the yellow plane quietly pirouetting high overhead.
The 24-year-old has been attending the Chicago Air and Water Show since he was a little boy.
But one thing was missing Saturday— military planes cutting through the skies.
“It’s still a great show, but it’s still not the same feeling as before,” Castro, of Bridgeport, said.
Because of government budget cuts, military aircrafts and pilots did not participate. That meant no beloved U.S. Navy Blue Angels or U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, among others. Organizers added more civilian aerobatics and jet teams.
At North Avenue Beach, the Brooks family said they were enjoying the show, but said the thrill of the booming military planes was missed.  http://www.suntimes.com/21997045-761/no-blue-angels-or-thunderbirds-still-a-great-show-but-.html
When Senile/Liar/Coward Harry Reid found out about all the problems with the military budget, he said the following:
"That's good".
Thank you Senile Harry for your brilliant views.

Well, Because The Pigs Are More Important

From the Houston Chronicle: The Texas prison system is paying $750,000 for six climate-controlled barns for use in its pig farming program. At the same time, the system faces lawsuits, criticism and complaints by inmates and guards about extreme heat.
The state's prison system uses inmate labor to raise pigs for prison consumption. The pig barns feature large fans with misters and exhaust fans to guarantee constant air movement, reducing the temperature by as much as 20 degrees in hot weather, The Austin American-Statesman (http://bit.ly/14IwqxN ) reported. The barns also have air preheating elements to ensure the pigs stay warm during the winter.
Bryan Collie, the deputy director of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, said the barns don't have "air conditioning ... it's a climate-controlled environment." He added that the barns "are consistent with the industry standard for swine operations."  http://www.chron.com/news/texas/article/Prison-pig-barns-cooled-while-inmates-staff-sweat-4740419.php?cmpid=hpts
Yeah well, the pigs are more important and they haven't committed any crimes.
As for the guards, I'm pretty sure they do get some cooling off time, hopefully every hour or so.
Maybe the inmates can sleep with the pigs, but then again, there may be a inmate-pig sexual assault.

How Many Cops Does It Take To Arrest 1 Prostitute?

On COPs tonight, they did a sting to arrest prostitutes in Alameda, CA.
Apparently it takes 9-12 cops to arrest 1 working girl.
Considering Las Vegas's love affair for prostitutes, I wonder how many cops Metro uses to arrest a ingle working girl?

Even Liberal Newspaper Disses Obama's Vacation

The liberal Chicago Tribune cannot be confused with a conservative news outlet like Fox News and even the Tribune is dissing Obama's vacation.
From the Tribune: As the White House announced an upcoming presidential bus tour to focus on a middle-class agenda, President Obama was golfing at a private club on Martha's Vineyard. When Obama wanted to show he was engaged on the deepening political crisis in Egypt, he delivered a statement from the driveway of his rented estate — then zipped off for another nine holes.
After skipping his summer vacation last year during the scrutiny of the campaign, a reelected Obama embraced his week of leisure with little worry about the inevitable political swipes at a vacationing president or the collision of images Washington calls "optics."
That meant repeated rounds of golf, sometimes with well-heeled Wall Street-types, once with actor Larry David. It meant dinners out at some of the best restaurants. It meant hanging out with friends and donors who flee to picturesque gray-shingled homes here in August to relish the views, dunes and sweet, salty air of the Atlantic....
This year's choice of residence raised more attention. The modern estate owned by Chicago investor David Schulte is close to a main artery that crosses the island, leading the Secret Service to close a section during one of the busiest weeks of the summer.
The closure, along with some tighter security measures, was particularly disruptive last week, when a county fair, regatta and fireworks display drew larger crowds.
"It's a nightmare," said rental agent Deborah Eggers, who handles hundreds of rentals each summer. Eggers said she wondered if in the age of terrorism presidents should stay in remote places. "He's got other places to go. There's Camp David. He could get himself a ranch in Montana. People have nice vacations in Montana, right?"
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said the president and first lady were mindful of how their security requirements can affect others. "But, frankly, the president is hopeful that everybody has just as much fun as he does on the island this week," he said.  http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/la-na-obama-vacation-20130818,0,1224376.story
Yeah, it's all about Obama and who cares about the little rich people who are being treated like crap.
Pathetic.
