From the San Diego Union Times: The San Diego City Council heard from more than two dozen city residents Friday afternoon split on whether it should approve a deal that would see scandal-ridden Mayor Bob Filner agree to resign 263 days after taking office.
After taking nearly an hour of public testimony, the council adjourned for a closed-door session to consider the pending agreement that would limit Filner’s legal and financial exposure stemming from a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a former aide.
Filner has agreed to resign in exchange for acceptance of the deal. Details of the tentative agreement have not been made public, but its broad outline has been confirmed by people close to the negotiations.
The first speaker urged rejection while a second said the mayor was being denied due process to confront accusers who say he harassed them, including his former communications director Irene McCormack Jackson, who filed suit against Filner and the city.
Bill Bernard said paying any of Filner's legal bills or paying him any money was wrong.
"If you agree to pay Bob Filner's expenses, you are telling our future leaders and our youth that it is OK to do wrong," Bernard said. "The payment of his legal fees and judgements are his responsibilities." http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2013/aug/23/mayor-bob-filner-council-settlement/
What's even more unbelievable is that Filner still had his supporters and the pervert still doesn't get it: “I started my political career facing lynch mobs and I think we have just faced one here in San Diego and you’re going to have to deal with that,” he said. “In a lynch-mob mentality, rumors become allegations, allegations become facts, facts become evidence of sexual harassment, which have led to demands for my resignation and recall.
