The Pahrump Valley Times is a silly little newspaper for the folks in Pahrump and Nye County. The editor, Matt Ward is a flaming liberal and is trying his best to turn the paper into a wannabe liberal newspaper.
In this week's edition, two stories have me scratching my head.
The first story involves a drug addict who went and beat up an old man and may be or may be not in jail.
From the PVT: Police arrested one woman following a bizarre incident at an elderly man’s home last week that left him with multiple injuries.
Edna Crawford, 50, is accused of breaking into the man’s home in the middle of the night and battering him with his own walking cane.
She was taken into custody on charges of battery with intent to kill an elderly or vulnerable person, burglary, battery with a deadly weapon, break/injure/tamper with a vehicle with less than $250 in damages and two counts of destroy property of another with damages between $250 and $5,000.
But later in the article:
According to jail deputies, Crawford was scheduled to be released from custody Thursday afternoon as no charges had been filed by the district attorney’s office and a week had already passed since her arrest.
District Attorney Brian Kunzi said the reason charges haven’t been filed yet is the NCSO needed additional time to conduct further investigation into the details of the incident before turning over a full report to his office. The report wasn’t submitted until late Wednesday afternoon and there wasn’t enough time for one of the deputy district attorneys to go through all the material and file charges by Crawford’s next court appearance early the following morning.
Kunzi added after speaking with the prosecutor handling the case that charges are likely forthcoming.
“We’ve got such a short period of time to get cases filed and part of the issue is we can’t just keep innocent people in jail until we do. People are presumed innocent,” he said. http://pvtimes.com/news/woman-beats-elderly-man-after-breaking-home.html?j
So is she in jail or not and are there are charges or not?
And then there is from the PVT and ultra liberal Matt Ward wrote the article:
The sheriff’s Scorpion Narcotics Task Force will continue to sting area drug dealers for another year, thanks to a $104,940 federal grant.
Nye County commissioners Tuesday voted to accept the grant, which will be used to fund two narcotics detectives and a part-time clerk. The county will have to add $163,453 to the grant out of the 2013-14 sheriff’s department budget. Personnel make up $228,393 of the combined $268,393 cost of the program. The budget includes $40,000 in confidential informant funds....
Commissioner Donna Cox, however, posed a series of pointed questions to Assistant Sheriff Rick Marshall from a citizen who incorrectly thought the drug task force grant would be used to fund a sheriff’s highway interdiction saturation patrol program. Cox eventually voted against accepting the grant. It was not the first time the commissioner has voted against accepting free money from federal and state programs. http://pvtimes.com/news/cox-interrogates-cop-drug-grant.html?j
So, according to Matt "Jerry Sandusky" Ward, free money is where the county, to get the money, has to spend $163,453 to get it. That doesn't sound like it is free to me.
This must be liberal speak for free money.
